Esther Wallace was convinced to play basketball at 15 years old and from the minute she stepped on the court, she fell in love. With athletics she was able to experience both success and failure which ultimately helped her discover her leadership traits and send her on her way to becoming the entrepreneur she is today. Through basketball she was able to travel the world and meet some phenomenal teammates but the thought always lingered in her mind “Would it have been different if she started playing at a younger age?” She then began to put more thought into why she hadn’t discovered her passion for basketball sooner and the idea of representation came to mind. Maybe if she was able to see herself in these famous athletes, maybe if there were more images of Lisa Leslie, more televised women’s basketball games - then MAYBE she would have discovered her passion sooner. This thought led to the birth of Playa Society Sportswear, a brand and a community for women in sports. Through Playa Society, Esther Wallace is creating a better future for athletes where female representation in sports is no longer an afterthought - it’s a must.
