Author Rob Henderson joins The Winston Marshall Show to dissect America's deepening political divide. From the shocking murder of Charlie Kirk to the refusal of Democrats in Congress to honor his death, Henderson explores how anger has tipped into hatred — fueling a climate where political violence is no longer unthinkable. He distinguishes between anger as bargaining, and hatred as wishing opponents didn't exist, warning of a dangerous escalation.Drawing on his work in psychology, Henderson explains the “dark triad” — narcissism, Machiavellianism, and psychopathy — and how social media rewards these traits, amplifying extremism online. He considers how the lack of a common enemy after the Cold War and 9/11 has turned Americans inward, seeing each other as the threat. From immigration battles and “luxury beliefs” among elites, to the gender divide in politics, marriage, and the rise of anti-natalist ideology — Henderson maps out how cultural and psychological fault lines are remaking American life. Can the US pull back from the brink of hatred-fueled politics?-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------To see more exclusive content and interviews consider subscribing to my substack here: https://www.winstonmarshall.co.uk/-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------FOLLOW ME ON SOCIAL MEDIA:Substack: https://www.winstonmarshall.co.uk/X: https://twitter.com/mrwinmarshallInsta: https://www.instagram.com/winstonmarshallLinktree: https://linktr.ee/winstonmarshall----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------Chapters 0:00 Introduction 1:53 Political Division and Emotional Dynamics 14:04 Historical Context and Social Media's Role 16:35 Dark Triad Traits and Political Violence 27:54 Gender Divide and Political Preferences 41:09 Immigration and Elite Ideologies 54:03 Downward Mobility and Radical Politics 59:36 Education and Historical Amnesia 1:11:54 Final Thoughts and Future Outlook Hosted on Acast. Unity Unraveled: The Gender Divide in Workplace Support

The studies and articles aren't new. In fact, the first workplace gender research started in the 1960s and 1970s. Men and Women in the Corporation by Rosabeth Moss Kanter was considered one of the first academic studies on gender differences in work behavior and opportunity, and this was in 1977. This conversation is as old as me, but I would like to remind you that women at work is not a construct of the early world wars and industrial revolutions as you may have been taught. Women and men working together started with creation in Genesis 1. Men and women were created to work together. In Genesis 1:26-27, we see the beautiful work of unity in creation. Then God said, ‘Let us make man in our image, after our likeness. And let them have dominion over the fish of the sea and over the birds of the heavens and over the livestock and over all the earth and every other creeping thing that creeps on the earth.' So, God created man in his own image, in the image of God he created him; male and female he created them. When we read the verses about creating man, he created both male and female in his own image. Not men exalted above women or women above men, but creation in his image, in unity. If we don't look to the beginning, it is easy to look at the ways that culture and society have created norms about work. The reality is these are not God's norms for men and women. The next verses in Genesis 1: 28-29 further frame God's plans for man and woman: And God blessed them. And God said to them, ‘Be fruitful and multiply, and fill the earth and subdue it, and have dominion over the fish of the sea, and over the birds of the heavens and over every living thing that moves on the earth.' God gave man and woman an equal command to work in unity. You already know that once sin crept in, this unity was forever broken. Sin impacts this sacred creation in every way, and our cultural norms which have been forming since the 70s continue to impact how men and women work together. What does this sin look like within the context of work? What is causing the continued gender bias issues for women? The answer doesn't start with work; it really begins outside of the office and is part of the cultural and societal brokenness between men and women that has systematically and year after year found its way into our work. With my aim being unity between men and women as advocates to solve this issue, I wondered, who were the leading male voices for gender equality at work. One name that came up was Tony Porter. Tony is the founder and CEO of A Call to Men. He seeks to teach systemic change for between men and women in society. In an article published on his website, “Is your Organization Unintentionally Reinforcing Gender Bias at Work,” Tony states this, “…the workplace is a microcosm of society—a society where men and boys are collectively socialized to view women as objects, as property and as having less value than men.”[1] This blanket statement is not felt by all women, of course, but as a whole, it sums up that sin and the brokenness of not seeing men and women created equally in the image of God is at the root of the issues still facing women today. Fortunately and unfortunately, the Bible is full of cultural examples of both unity and brokenness between men and women. If we look at the Word of God, we will all struggle to understand some of the terrible injustices women faced including being taken by force into marriage, raped, and being cast out of society. Again, at the moment of the fall, the unity and sacred relationship between men and women fell, and it fell hard. But, for every hard-to-read passage of Scripture about injustices for women, there are beautiful examples of how God used women and work for the glory of his kingdom. Women played an important role in the formation of the early church where they not only served the disciples with hospitality but also provided money for the ministry and teaching ...

The gender divide is tearing through every corner of our lives right now, and honestly? It's fucking confusing out there. While ambitious women are crushing it in boardrooms and lecture halls, we're watching a crisis of masculinity unfold in real time—and the dating challenges that follow are enough to make you want to swipe left on humanity altogether. How did we get to a place where traditional gender roles feel both completely outdated and weirdly appealing again, where toxic masculinity battles with something called "tonic masculinity," and where the trad wife movement is somehow trending on the same timeline as record-breaking female college enrollment? If you're watching this cultural battlefield from the middle like I am, wondering what the hell happened to just... connecting with people, then buckle up because we're about to unpack why everyone feels so damn lost.In today's episode, we're talking about everything from the rise of incels to why Gen Z is rushing back to church, plus the real tea on why building meaningful friendships in adulthood feels harder than landing your dream job. This isn't about picking sides—it's about understanding how gender and mental health, modern family dynamics, and our collective fear of rejection are shaping the way we love, work, and show up in the world. What You'll Learn in This Episode:Why the gender divide is creating an 80/20 dating crisis that's leaving high-achieving women struggling to find equal partnersThe shocking data behind the crisis of masculinity—including why suicide rates among young men are skyrocketing and what it means for all of usHow toxic masculinity versus tonic masculinity is reshaping what it means to be a man in 2025 (and why Tim Walz is the perfect example)The real political agenda behind the trad wife movement and why "prairie core" isn't as innocent as those sourdough starters make it seemWhy 60% of college students are now women and how this educational flip is changing modern family gender roles foreverThe connection between avoidance of pain, dating challenges, and why everyone's rushing back to traditional gender normsHow ambitious women are burning out trying to prove their worth while simultaneously being told to "lean back" into feminine energyThe surprising strategy for building deep friendships in adulthood that actually works (hint: it involves getting comfortable with rejection)If this episode hit a nerve, GOOD! It means you're awake and ready to stop avoiding the hard conversations that actually change things. The state of gender roles is playing out in every boardroom, bedroom, and dating app, and understanding why we've ended up here gives you serious power to navigate it all differently. So tell me: which part of this cultural shift resonates most with your own experience? We are kicking things off with a topic Amy has been fascinated by - the gender divide in American politics and why it's so pronounced among Gen Z.In the past, young voters have reliably supported the Democratic candidate for president, regardless of gender. Just four years ago, a majority of both young men and young women voted for Joe Biden. But in 2024 the picture looked different. A majority of young women did support Kamala Harris. But a majority of young men cast their vote for Donald Trump. In fact, 56% of young men voted for Trump compared to only 4% of young women. None of this was a surprise to Daniel Cox, our guest today. He's been watching this gender divergence unfold for years now, and he says it's happening on so many levels: that gender informs Gen Z's views on a range of issues from social, to culture to, of course, political. So Amy wanted to talk to him about why this is, will it last, and what's making this cohort so different from previous generations.Daniel Cox is Director of the Survey Center on American Life and a senior fellow in polling and public opinion at the American Enterprise Institute. He is the author of the forthcoming book, Uncoupled, which will focus on the growing gender gap in American society. He also writes the Substack American Storylines. Battle of the sexes? The widening gender divide in US politics

The Debate

It's the home stretch of a fiercely partisan presidential race in the United States, a nation where political fault lines seem to increasingly match the gender of the voter who is casting a ballot. If you are an American woman, you are more and more likely to vote for Kamala Harris. If you are a man, for Donald Trump. Why does this election seem like a battle of the sexes? The Economist magazine recently ran a story entitled "Crypto bros v. cat ladies". We hear from a researcher quoted in that piece, which reveals that the gender gap is about much more than cultural tastes. When Barack Obama chastises the growing number of Black men voting Republican, is it about their skin colour or simply the fact that they are men?Beyond views on abortion and reproductive rights, there are fears in this fast-changing world over economic opportunities on both sides of the divide. Are those fears justified? And how will they play out electorally?Produced by Andrew Hilliar, Rebecca Gnignati and Annarosa Zampaglione.

Dr. Sara Chatfield, a leading voice in gender politics from the University of Denver, and author of the book In Her Own Name: The Politics of Women's Rights Before Suffrage, joins Deep Dive to unpack the persistent gender gap in American politics—a divide that traces its roots back to the 1980s. We explore how shifts in male conservatism and Trumpism's focus on traditional masculinity have potentially steered more women toward the Democratic Party. As we look ahead to the 2024 election, this discussion reveals the intricate weave of political rhetoric, societal change, and how these elements continue to shape voter alignment in a rapidly evolving landscape. In an election where reproductive rights are at the forefront of political discourse, we examine the Dobbs decision's fallout and its ripple effects on public opinion. The debate around abortion and reproductive health transcends identity politics, challenging preconceived notions and highlighting the fundamental nature of these issues. We also discuss JD Vance's stance on gender relations and the historical role of white women in reactionary politics, offering a nuanced perspective on how these dynamics play out in today's political arena. From the resurgence of trans-exclusionary bathroom bills to the strategic maneuvers in Congress and the courts, we consider the effects of backlash and progress. While some areas of social policy are regressing, others are pushing forward, and these shifts have profound implications for the future. -------------------------Follow Deep Dive:InstagramYouTube Email: deepdivewithshawn@gmail.com Music: Majestic Earth - Joystock

In the latest episode of On the Brink with Andi Simon, we had the pleasure of speaking with Vicki Bradley, a seasoned leadership coach and the driving force behind many successful leaders, both women and men. Vicki's work is rooted in the understanding that leadership is not just about authority or strategy—it's about connecting with people on a deeper level through effective communication and emotional intelligence. In our conversation, Vicki shared profound insights into how these elements are not just complementary but essential to effective leadership. The Secret to Become the Leader You Want to Be One of the key takeaways from our discussion with Vicki was the critical role that communication plays in leadership. She emphasized that clear, authentic communication is the cornerstone of trust-building. When leaders communicate effectively, they are able to inspire, motivate, and engage their teams. This, in turn, fosters an environment where people feel valued, understood, and committed to the shared vision. The Heart of Leadership: Conversational and Emotional Intelligence But communication alone isn't enough. Vicki argues that to truly excel as a leader, one must couple communication skills with emotional intelligence. Emotional intelligence, or EQ, is the ability to recognize, understand, and manage our own emotions, as well as the emotions of others. According to Vicki, leaders who possess high EQ are better equipped to handle the complexities of human behavior in the workplace. They are more empathetic, more adaptable, and better at conflict resolution—skills that are indispensable in today's dynamic business environments. Bridging the Gender Divide in Leadership During our conversation, Vicki also touched on the unique challenges and opportunities that arise when working with both women and men to enhance their leadership skills. She noted that while the fundamental principles of good leadership—like communication and EQ—apply to everyone, the ways in which these skills are developed and expressed can differ between genders. For women, Vicki observed that societal expectations often influence how they communicate and assert themselves in the workplace. Many women are taught to be nurturing and cooperative, which can sometimes be at odds with traditional notions of leadership. Vicki's coaching helps women to leverage these qualities while also encouraging them to find their voice, assert their ideas confidently, and navigate the complexities of leadership without compromising their authenticity. On the other hand, men might face different challenges. Vicki explained that some men are conditioned to suppress emotions or view emotional intelligence as a "soft" skill that doesn't align with leadership. However, she emphasizes that when men embrace EQ, they often find that it enhances their leadership capabilities, particularly in building trust and fostering team cohesion. By helping men understand the value of EQ, Vicki guides them toward a more balanced and effective leadership style. Narcissism, often fueled by deep-rooted trauma and shame, isn't just an individual issue—it's a psychological pattern that, if left unresolved, gets passed on from generation to generation. In particular, we look at how these patterns create and perpetuate the gender divide, which has become increasingly pronounced and reflective of the political divide as well.Narcissism, Helplessness, and the Gender DivideOne of the most compelling aspects of this conversation is how the dynamics of narcissism and victimhood tend to play out in gendered ways. Men are often labeled as narcissists—seen as controlling, emotionally unavailable, or manipulative—while women may fall into the victim role, struggling to set boundaries and feeling powerless in relationships. Yet, both sides of this dynamic stem from deep psychological wounds, which need healing not just for the individuals involved but for society as a whole.Narcissism isn't just a personality flaw; it's a defense mechanism born from childhood trauma, often in homes where a parent was abusive or emotionally unavailable. The narcissist, unable to express their emotional needs openly, learns to manipulate others to get what they need, while those on the receiving end (often women in these gendered dynamics) may fall into patterns of helplessness, believing they have no control over their circumstances. This creates a codependent cycle that not only harms relationships but also influences how future generations understand love, boundaries, and emotional expression.Breaking the Cycle for Future GenerationsWhat makes this conversation so critical is the generational impact of unresolved narcissistic patterns. When parents model unhealthy relationships, whether through narcissistic control or victim helplessness, children absorb these behaviors, often carrying them into their own adult lives. It becomes a psychological genetic disease, passed down from one generation to the next. Healing these patterns is not just about improving our own lives—it's about ensuring the emotional health of our children and future generations. When we break free from narcissistic patterns, we not only heal ourselves, but we also create healthier environments for the next generation. Children raised in homes where boundaries are respected, emotions are expressed healthily, and love is unconditional grow into adults who are emotionally secure and capable of forming healthy, balanced relationships. This is the ripple effect of healing narcissism: it's not just about us, it's about the legacy we leave behind.Bridging the Gender and Political DivideThe gender divide in relationships often mirrors the larger political divide we see in society. In many cases, these divisions are exacerbated by the same underlying psychological patterns: one group feels marginalized or powerless, while the other seeks control or dominance. By healing narcissism and the helplessness that often accompanies it, we can begin to bridge these gaps—not just between men and women, but across political lines as well.As someone whose Gene Keys vocation and culture spheres are both Line 4, my focus is on bridging these divides within communities. I believe that healing our relationships—especially the complex dynamics between men and women—can create a ripple effect that spreads into our broader communities, fostering compassion, understanding, and unity. By approaching narcissism with love and compassion, we not only heal ourselves but also help to create a more balanced, conscious society. The Path Forward: Self-Love and CompassionAt the heart of healing narcissism is the discovery of true self-love. Narcissists, often disconnected from their true selves, project a forced version of self-love that is protective and fragile. Meanwhile, their victims may undervalue themselves, absorbing the narcissist's manipulative behaviors and feeling unworthy of love. The true path to healing is through self-love that is rooted in compassion, not just for oneself but for others.Setting compassionate boundaries—rather than using anger, fear, or blame—allows both sides of this dynamic to heal. When we stop engaging in the drama triangle of victim, persecutor, and rescuer, we empower ourselves to become creators, challengers, and coaches in our own lives. This shift not only frees us from the cycle of codependency but also allows us to guide the next generation toward healthier, more conscious relationships.ConclusionHealing the gender divide and the toxic patterns of narcissism is one of the most important tasks of our time. It's about much more than personal development; it's about creating a future where men and women can relate to one another with compassion, where children are raised in emotionally healthy environments, and where we bridge the gaps between ourselves and our communities. If you feel called to explore how these patterns may be affecting your life or relationships, I invite you to reach out for coaching support. Together, we can work toward breaking these cycles, fostering self-love, and creating a brighter future for ourselves and future generations. Did you know that microaggressions in the workplace, often subtle and unintentional, can cost the U.S. workforce $450 to $550 billion in lost productivity yearly, according to Gallup? These small, seemingly insignificant actions or comments can have significant negative impacts on individuals and organizations, leading to lost productivity, low morale, and claims of a hostile work environment. The Impact of Microaggressions on the Workplace Implementing effective **Microaggressions Workplace Strategies** is crucial for mitigating these behaviors' adverse effects on individuals and organizations. Here are some key impacts to consider: Lost Productivity: Microaggressions can accumulate over time, decreasing employee engagement and productivity. When employees feel undervalued or discriminated against, their motivation and performance suffer, ultimately affecting the organization's bottom line.   Low Morale: Repeated microaggressions create a toxic work environment where employees feel uncomfortable, isolated, or marginalized. This environment can result in high turnover rates as employees seek healthier, more inclusive workplaces.   Claims of a Hostile Work Environment: While microaggressions may seem minor in isolation, they can contribute to a pattern of behavior that creates a hostile work environment. Over time, these incidents can become the basis for employment discrimination lawsuits, leading to financial and reputational damage. These impacts underline the importance of developing and implementing **Microaggressions Workplace Strategies** to foster a more inclusive and productive work environment. Expert Insights: Shawn Andrews on Microaggressions Workplace Strategies Shawn Andrews, is the author of The Power of Perception, Leadership, Emotional Intelligence, and the Gender Divide, a seasoned expert with over 22 years of experience in the pharmaceutical industry and a decade focused on DEI (Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion), emotional intelligence, and leadership, provides valuable insights into effective Microaggressions Workplace Strategies. Her work highlights the importance of understanding the impact of our words and actions and fostering a more inclusive environment. In this recent Women's Leadership Success podcast, Andrews discusses the derogatory use of terms like "DEI hire" and their damaging effects on workplace culture. She emphasizes that while some companies may have hired diverse candidates solely for checkbox purposes in the past, this practice is increasingly rare today due to the abundance of highly qualified candidates across all demographics. Andrews advocates for questioning biases and using empathy to shift perspectives and foster a more inclusive workplace. Questioning Biases and Practicing Empathy During the discussion with Women's Leadership Success podcast host, Sabrina Braham MA MFT PCC, Andrews shared how questioning biases and practicing empathy have successfully shifted perspectives in her experience. For example: - Questioning Biased Comments: When someone makes a biased or insensitive comment, asking them to clarify their meaning or how they arrived at their conclusion can prompt reflection on their assumptions. This opens the door for more thoughtful discussions. - Sharing Personal Stories: Andrews highlights the power of sharing personal experiences that differ from the dominant narrative to build empathy and understanding. Humanizing the experiences of marginalized groups can make it harder for people to dismiss or overlook their challenges. - Active Listening: Actively listening to others, even when their views differ from your own, can help shift rigid mindsets. Andrews notes that approaching conversations with curiosity rather than judgment creates a more conducive environment for learning and growth. These insights from Andrews are essential components of effective Microaggressions Workplace Strategies, which can help organizations foster a more respectful...

Cat Person is a film about a college student going on a date with an older man that evolves into all of the potential horrors of modern dating. It's based on a viral short story from the New Yorker in 2017, and six years later, it's as relevant as ever. We got to chat with director Susanna Fogel about the grey area of dating that most of us can relate to, how she was able to direct one of the more uncomfortable sex scenes we've ever seen, and her secret trick to cast bonding. And then she caps off our conversation by reliving her own real life bad date story!Cat Person is in theaters October 6th.
