Hot Little Takes

The fellas are back with glaring tech issues and hot little takes. We're talkin' streaming wars, we're talkin Netflix, Peacock, HBO Sundays and the premiere of Hulu's History of the World Part II. The fellas are back and catching up for lost time with a busy docket. This is the first in a series of episodes about filmmakers making their first feature film. Ian Brander is a Colorado filmmaker, who hardcore cinephiles may know from his cinematography in the 2018 Slamdance Film Festival selection, Information Superhighway. Ian is about 4 shooting days away from wrapping his first feature film and stops by to chat with Christian about collecting physical media, Werner Herzog, knowing your environment, pre-production nightmares, stealing shots, "buying scenes", getting personal and standing on the brink of quitting.

David Niles is back in the house and the fellas have the giggles breaking down their respective top 5 movies on the year. The dudes make another huge comeback and they're saving Hollywood in the process. First, they wrap up the latest seasons of Succession and Curb Your Enthusiasm and get all riled up for new episodes of The Righteous Gemstones. Christian tries out a Scorsese impression and they hand out a free idea to Hollywood to save the studio comedy. The hogpods are back from summer vacation with more Hot Little Takes. First, we sort through a pile of new trailers and upcoming films (The Batman, On The Rocks, Death on the Nile, The Chicago Seven, Mank and the untitled PTA project) before pouring one out for pod favorites High Fidelity and The Society, as well as remembering Chadwick Boseman (15:50). Then we tackle the main entree, Charlie Kaufman's new Netflix movie I'm Thinking of Ending Things (22:10). And Mike wraps us up with some takes on the new Bill and Ted movie and a look toward the future (37:00). 

 Fiona Apple is back and so are we. The boys discuss the perfect new Fiona Apple record "Fetch the Boltcutters",  catch up on episode two of Run. Also, the long wait to get back to vibing at the Vatican is finally over, they break down the first 3 episodes of HBO's The New Pope. We have waited and waited and The Young Pope is finally coming back. Mike and Christian react to the trailers for The New Pope and go into spiritual convulsions. Praise for the Marvelous Mrs. Maisel. Mike and Christian return after a prolonged and accidental break. Mike gives his early thoughts on The Mandalorian. Then they jump in on Scorsese's The Irishman before reaching back in time to throw out some takes on Dolomite Is My Name, The Laundromat and The Lighthouse. Episode wraps up with Mike's experiences with Downton Abbey and they look ahead to Mrs. Maisel, Marriage Story and the Golden Globe nominations. 

Mike and Christian for some reason kick it off with a discussion about Major League Baseball (which we don't really love), head into SNL (which we definitely don't love) and then land on astrology (which we definitely love). Also, David Chang's new show Breakfast, Lunch and Dinner, Pain & Glory as well as the early reactions to The Morning Show and they continue to wonder what Jeffrey Epstein is doing on his private island. Finally, the reckon with the end of The Deuce before flying off the rails.

Hot Little Takes is moving to once a week! And because of that our openings are guaranteed to go off the rails.
