Francis Ford Coppola has definitively proven that no amount of wine country monies can be thrown at a 30 year passion project to justify wasting two extra long hours of your life aging away in an IMAX theater struggling to watch it. Megalopolis is so bad it couldn't make it's money back in a game of tic tac toe against a blind man. A Megalodon of a mess, Coppola beats his audience over the head with his shallow progressive messaging literally carved in stone connecting some beautiful cinematography and provocative performances with some of the ugliest CGI and convoluted story progression I've ever experieneced.

Send us a textThis week on Fabulous Film & Friends we're taking on the monumental challenge of dissecting Francis Ford Coppola's sprawling, controversial and somewhat divisive 2024 opus, Megalopolis starring Adam Driver, Giancarlo Esposito, Nathalie Emmanuel, Aubrey Plaza, Shia LeBeouf, John Voight, Laurence Fishburne, Talia Shire, Jason Schwartzman, Grace Vanderwaal , Kathryn Hunter, and Dustin Hoffman. Plus, as a bonus James Remar, and D.B. Sweeney in essentially featured background roles.I'm your host Gino Caputi and joining me this week are two of my sturdy and stalwart fellow film snobs, who had the guts and determination to get to the movie theater before the film was yanked from screens, Joe Field, and Gordon Alex Robertson. Before we go bonkers, don the Coppola sandwich board and howl at the masses, the synopsis: In the dark days before the impending collapse of New Rome, Caesar Catalina, a man who can stop time and space, ventures to create a utopian city using “Catalinium,” the Nobel Prize-winning element he invented. He seeks to replace his decaying city with a new vision for a brighter future but said vision faces setbacks on many levels. Despite political, financial, societal and familial obstacles raining down on him, Catalina's unwavering spirit cannot be deterred.A deserved critical and financial bomb or a misunderstood masterpiece? What a journey. We're rolling through our ninth discussion in our year-long theme of A DREARY YEAR OF VON TRIER. This US election year was guaranteed to feel heavy and hopeless and it's lived up to that spectacularly. Add a dozen Lars von Trier movies to that because why not? Today we talk of his third in his “Depression Trilogy” and it's definitely a fun one to trick your in-laws into watching. If you can talk your mother-in-law into watching the complete 5 hour and 20 minute director's cut of the 2013 film “NYMPHOMANIAC” then you deserve a large trophy at the very least. That's what Bob and Angela did. The whole damn thing. Charlotte Gainsbourg plays Joe, a nymphomaniac. She's found beaten and pissed on by Seligman, played by Stellan Skarsgård, an asexual and learned man who helps her out and hears her sordid stories of BJs, DPs, S&Ms, MMFs and you figure you would hear more about VDs, STDs and other things after sleeping with hundreds, maybe thousands, of people but not really. HPV at the very least. I think most of us have that one except Seligman. There is a home abortion in this movie so make sure you don't miss that. We got quite the ensemble that includes Shia LeBeouf, Stacy Martin, Christian Slater, Jamie Bell, Uma Thurman, Willem Dafoe, Mia Goth and more. The movie is called “Nymphomaniac” and it's by Lars von Trier and it's what you would expect so let's get up in them guts and talk about it. Where were you that April if you weren't seeing Disturbia (2007) in theaters? It was the year of Shia, and a new creepy classic was emerging out of the mid-aughts. This flick is a quintessential millennial movie, an updated take on Hitchcock's Rear Window (though legally we should warn you that we're not speaking literally, because there's like legit drama there). It also shares a name with an iconic Rihanna song that'll get stuck in your head faster than you can ask, "What's wrong with me? Why do I feel like this?" On our latest episode of Spooky Tuesday, we're doing our best not to break into song too much as we throw it back to our earlier horror days. MOVIE DISCUSSION: Shirleon and Melvin discuss the popular 2003 Disney family movie Holes, that one where lizards are scary and the line, "I can fix that." is eternally engrained in your brain! We dig into the films surprisingly mature content, occasionally DCOM-esque nature, and how sometimes that movie you liked as a kid is as good as you remember! Topics:(PATREON EXCLUSIVE) 41-minutes discussing Madame Web: or, how movies are products to be sold, which means they are marketed, and we were not convinced the marketing had sold us on the product; an exploration on the importance of marketing; and whether someone can be critical of a film prior to having seen it. (PATREON EXCLUSIVE)Shirleon read the book, so Melvin asks a few questions about that. There's just a lot about Holes that works on a fundamental level, and it makes the film an enjoyable watch.Shirleon & Melvin both observe a comfortability in the film to showcase and explore mature, hard themes while remaining accessible to a family audience.Shirleon gives a more specific compare-and-contrast between the book and film. The legalistic metaphor of perpetual, listless hole-digging contrasted against deep-and-dynamic characters.Shirleon & Melvin agree; all the Sam and Kathryn flashbacks were stellar.Discussing and contrasting the two curses.Recommendations:Buy Lego! Toby Kebbell on his breakthrough role in Shane Meadows' Dead Man's Shoes, and working with huge industry names like Woody Allen, Oliver Stone, M. Night Shyamalan, Guy Ritchie, Val Kilmer and Robert Redford to name but a fraction. “There's no such thing as a bad student, only a bad teacher.” Toby also gets into all the skills he's learned for roles - things like horseback riding, playing the piano and most recently being trained to box by legend Carl Froch for new movie Salvable co-starring Shia LeBeouf. The pair also discuss the different ways becoming a father can change you, why Toby believes theatre is still the best way for young people to learn acting (even amid the rise in social media presence and personalities), class culture wars and differences in opportunity, and why he believes discipline is responsible for his success.
On this episode the boys talks about their top underrated movies of all time. They bring up movies they believe others don't think are great but they love and keep watching them over and over again. The boys talk about some Shia LeBeouf movies, that are forgotten, sci-fi and Disney movies that aren't liked by many. We hope you enjoy and remember too like and follow.
If you would have told us before starting this podcast that a Shia Lebeouf movie about golf was going to be one of the best movies we ever watched we would have laughed at you. This movie is DAMN GOOD. Don't get us wrong it is long and about golf, two things we generally have zero interest in but there is just something about this film that makes it worth watching and another listen for this weeks Surprise Saturday.

I'm dedicating the first 2 weeks of 2024 to daily reminders of the different ways that we can renew our minds.A portion of this episode includes Shia LeBeouf. He has been through some very public issues in the last few years, but as has navigated through it, he seemed to have found himself on a journey of faith. We've been talking about this movie since we started the podcast and now we finally did it!Unfortunately, this film's John Constantine is from LA. Mercifully, that means Keanu doesn't have to do a British accent. Not that he can't do it. I mean, forsooth, we all remember Bram Stoker's Dracula, do we not? Instead, this time we leave it to Rachel Weisz to do an accent which basically just equates to "Americans talk low and mumble, right?". Hey, did she teach Benedict Cumberbatch? That's definitely a Greenwich Village accent, right? But just like The Prophecy, nothing that happens in this movie really matters until Gabriel and Satan show up! Tilda Swinton's Gabriel is The Angel of Gender and Stormare's Satan is really just having the time of his life for the whole five minutes he's in the movie. This is how you become THE DEVIL.Oh and for some reason Shia LeBeouf is here. Why? Unclear. Ask again later. ★ Support this podcast on Patreon ★

The gals discuss Ariana Madix's new cocktail book “Single AF Cocktails: Drinks for Bad B*tches”, which will be coming to a Barnes and Noble clearance section near you in December. This leads to Chan's controversial take on what all VPR cast members are lacking. Lauren and Chan dive into Heather Dubrow's comments about Ozempic, which may be on its way to be viewed the same way as botox. The gals discuss their current feelings about Ozempic, and why their opinions have done a 180 since their initial podcast discussion. Aside from some celebrities blatantly lying about how they recently lost weight, Lauren and Chan fully support the Big O. In case you missed it, Taylor Swift recently attended the wedding of longtime friend and collaborator Jack Antonoff and actress Margaret Qualley. After Taylor's presence caused the rehearsal dinner property to resemble Coachella, Lauren and Chan considered whether the fanfare that constantly accompanies Taylor served as an irritation to the bride, or if it just added to the festivities. Lauren and Chan cannot go without a quick style analysis of Taylor's wedding looks, as well as their approval of her surgical enhancements and her choice of beverage in her Queen of the World Era. Chan leads the way though a brief Margaret Qualley bio and her short-lived romance with Shia LeBeouf, which lead to an unexpected connection with FKA Twigs. The gals finish up the episode with Lauren's hilarious brush with Instagram scammers, who peaked her interest with their alleged abilities to remove all of Lauren's blockages and propel her to become the star she was meant to be. Josiah and I discuss the antagonists of his film, Shia LeBeouf, Luke Turner, and Nastja Säde Rönkkö. We discussed the utterly ridiculous art project that spiraled out of control and into the hands of a contingency of honorable and deplorable 4'chan "trolls" who humorously disrupted the livestream to the point that they uprooted the project from their home turf, Brooklyn, of course! a flag was then substituted when the 2nd stream was disrupted again as pranks ensued even in Albuquerque, The flag was then left in an undisclosed location, watch the film to see how they caught it! We also discuss the meltdown that followed Shia's participation in this art installment, his turn to Christ taking the role of Padre Pio and effectively turning his image around, and of course I ask Josiah his thoughts on the Occult influences of the strange series of art projects preformed by LaBeouf, Rönkkö & Turner. Friends, today we share my recent “Bishop Barron Presents” discussion with Shia LeBeouf. Shia is an actor famous for his roles in Transformers, Honey Boy, and Peanut Butter Falcon, among other films. His most recent role is as the young Padre Pio in a new biopic on the great saint, a role which changed his life as he explains in this discussion. His story of conversion is profound and I think you will find it deeply moving.
