Peace IPR Fam! We're now at the peak of season seven -- shifting into areas of healing, service and community within our creative entrepreneurial ecosystems. IPR taps in with Floridian artist Alexandra Antoine as she discusses her journey as a visual artist in food and fine art. Audio engineering/edit by Cey Sincerray (@215imgs) Artist Bio Alexandra Antoine is an interdisciplinary visual artist and cultural apprentice based in Chicago, IL. Her work acknowledges the influences of her Haitian culture and interest in portraiture, food, farming and the physical labor that goes into traditional artistic practices of the Afrikan diaspora. She honors her ancestors always and is currently growing food in several community gardens on the West side of Chicago! She received an undergraduate degree from a fancy art school and exhibited her work in many places but collaborating with folks throughout the Afrikan diaspora is her life's work. Artist Statement -- Alexandra Antoine My works are pathways for the stories, memories and traditional practices of my ancestors and elders. I sow and harvest the knowledge that was passed down to me within the works I create that honor the use of my hands, the flow of repetitive actions, and the embodiment of joy within the preparation, care and intentionality of the images and subjects I utilize. I reflect on memories of communal experiences with my loved ones, the oral histories shared within these spaces, the native language of my people and its use in sustaining my connection to land and spirit. My work utilizes whatever material is necessary to depict my intended vision and is therefore interdisciplinary in practice. My paintings express the linear, topographical layers of beauty I see within my people. My food collages pay homage to the abundance of culinary knowledge within the kitchen spaces of black folks throughout the world and the alchemy we create in our kitchens. My printmaking work showcases the ways in which my ideas can exist in functional forms as well as standard ways of viewing art. I honor the people and land of Léogâne, Haiti.
Peace IPR Fam! How's the second half of the year rolling out for you? Before the season closes with IPR's 7th year anniversary celebration, it was definite to include one last episode to close out the season. Chicago native Pascale Ife Williams sits with host Chelsey Sincerray in conversation discussing the connection, alignment and significance of power from all seven chakras - root, sacral, solar plexus, heart, throat, third eye and the crown. As we evolve as humans and creatives along our journey, it is so important to tap into not only our self-love, but how we apply action inwardly while listening to our body, mind and spirit. This episode was recorded on October 23, 2023 virtually in Chicago, IL. Audio engineering by Chelsey Sincerray. About the Featured Guest Follow Ife on Instagram: @dr.mama.atomz Website: www.pascaleifewilliams.com Artist Bio I am a spirit-led cultural organizer, disruptor, healing justice practitioner, space holder and vision creator. I am a Chicago native with over 15 years of experience in justice-driven arts and community-engaged work that explores and expands racial, gender, and wellness equity. I seek to engage communities through imagination, strategic visioning, and abolitionist cultural praxes. I currently work as Senior Engagement Fellow at the Terra Foundation and am contracted to facilitate transformative spaces within radical political and cultural movement organizations in Chicago and beyond. My biological and chosen tribe are most precious to me. In addition, Kamari, my young child and all my “nibblings” (a gender inclusive term for nieces and nephews) are a constant source of humility, inspiration, and laughter.
As we enter and soon wrap up the fourth quarter of season six, October focuses on the importance of our crown chakra. There's nothing more important than us understanding why the freedom of connecting to self is always the root to our voices as creatives and entrepreneurs. We have a double feature this month, IPR fam! First, Kendra Renee, southside Chicago native and founder of Be Free Black Girl, talks with host Chelsey Sincerray as they both break down the significance of what it means to be limitless within yourself and what you decide to do in your life. Listen and take notes, because there's gems of wisdom and journal prompts in this one for you. This episode was recorded on October 2, 2023 virtually between Chicago, IL and Houston, TX. IPR Fam, we have officially entered into the second half of the year...how you feel? What are you continuing to affirm into yourself and your life? The month of August taps into the sixth chakra, the third eye. Host Chelsey Sincerray and featured guest Brittney Thomas tap into the sources of inner wisdom and why it's important to remain grounded in your truth, expression and identity as a human being on earth. This episode was recorded on August 9, 2023 in Chicago, IL Audio engineering by Chelsey Sincerray Featured Guest Bio Brittney is a community builder, healer, and facilitator that operates from an abolitionist, trauma-informed, anti-oppression/capitalist lens. Through their decade-long non-profit career, they've realized that as long as the same oppressive structures and systems are integrated into our work, we are not actually doing liberation work. They offer a radical, black, trans, queer approach to liberation work concerning the livelihood and sustainability of marginalized communities that are often left out of the larger conversation around community care. As a black, queer, and trans nonbinary person, they understand their very existence is directly tied and deeply connected to everything they do. They hope to continue to find communities and individuals that recognize that we are the experts of our own lived experiences and no one is better able to identify our needs than we are. Systems and institutions can't and won't sustain us, but WE can.
Back with episode six of the sixth season! For the month of July, the next chakra in focus is the throat chakra. Host Chelsey Sincerray and featured guest Rodney Perry chat about the significance of why and how speaking your truth applies to the life you exist in and path you create for yourself.
