This month we talked to Sergio Fernández Bravo, who is a fellow doctoral researcher from Global Development Studies at University of Helsinki. Sergio is interested in the relationship between natural sciences and politics, specifically in the Global South. His current research focuses on synthetic pesticides and how they are used as devices of power and influence the epistemic arrangements within the Mexican Green Revolution. Sergio gives insight into the history of pesticide use in Mexico and the various ways that they have influenced the trajectory of the region. Even though we are not directly invoking the term extractivism very often, there are so many connections and cross-fertilizations with extractivisms. For example, we discuss the role of terra nullius and wasteland in creating imaginaries about how land can and should be used (and what humans can do with it!) Join us for this wide ranging and intensely interesting conversation! If you are interested to learn more about Sergio's work, please visit his academic profile. https://researchportal.helsinki.fi/en/persons/sergio-fernandez-bravo  If you would like to contact Sergio for any further discussion of what you heard in this episode, please feel welcome and encouraged to drop him a line (sergio.fernandezbravo (at) helsinki.fi). He is up for making connections and having conversations about pesticides and the broader topics of his research.

You may not think of people at work as your community, but they are. And when you build strong relationships with your community, you get more done. It's more creative. It's more resourceful. The results are just better. That's one of the things we're talking about today with the help of our special guest, Senior Director of Brand & Digital Marketing at Collibra, Victoria Bowman.Together, we take marketing lessons from Abbott Elementary, including partnering up with your coworkers, showing that you understand your audience, and testing your ideas before investing in them.About our guest, Victoria BowmanVictoria Bowman is an accomplished marketing leader with extensive experience building brands and accelerating growth in fast-paced award-winning companies, including Collibra, MITRE and Dell Technologies. She is Senior Director of Brand and Digital Marketing at Collibra, the leading data intelligence platform. Her team includes Brand and Creative, Digital & Websites, Social Media, Community and Marketing Operations. Victoria fosters a strong culture of trust and collaboration on her team, empowering impactful cross-functional work on campaigns, events, website optimization, thought leadership programs and evolution of the brand. Collibra was recently recognized with wins in multiple categories from both the MarCom Awards and Communicator Awards. At MITRE, a nonprofit which performs R&D on behalf of the federal government as well as industry partners, Victoria helped Strategic Communications navigate proper brand marketing in an organization dating back to 1958. Her primary focus was on relaunching mitre.org with a design system refresh and 90 net-new pages of concise content, as well as developing the employer brand and deploying high-impact campaigns to talent acquisition targets. As Director of Brand Marketing at Dell Boomi, a SaaS company within Dell Technologies, Victoria built and led large cross-functional teams of creatives and developers, relaunched the corporate website twice during her tenure, rebranded the company, and created infrastructure and improved processes that helped Dell Boomi to scale. These strategies enabled growth initiatives and lead-generating campaigns that resulted in direct, measurable business impact.Prior to working in tech / SaaS, Victoria held leadership roles in consumer packaged goods and online retail organizations. In those positions, she created innovative visual communications and marketing campaign strategies that effectively engaged B2B/B2C channels, planned and executed large events, expanded omnichannel brand awareness, and directly increased sales and customer retention. What B2B Companies Can Learn From Abbott Elementary:Partner up. Don't feel like you have to operate alone. Working collaboratively with others results in a more thoughtful, creative, and unique outcome. Victoria says, “Relationships are crucial to your success. All of the characters on Abbott Elementary really rely on each other. And they've built trust by learning across generations and different backgrounds. And I think that culture of trust really is what fosters great partnership and creativity and innovation. Fostering connections and gaining that shared understanding and having mutual support is important, and the element of discovery that comes from all of those shared experiences.”Show that you understand your audience. Appeal to their values, concerns, frustrations and priorities. That's when content “clicks” for them and you create an emotional bond. Victoria says, “Show that you understand and speak to and meet the needs of your audience. Exemplify that in your marketing, that you understand their problems, you understand their needs, that you are listening, that you're accessible.”Test. Try out new marketing strategies before really investing in them. Victoria says, “Be entrepreneurial. Try out new things. Experiment and test and improve the benefit before you sink budget and resources into something. That's how new activities can turn into successful programs. Never lose that sense of curiosity and that entrepreneurial approach.”Quotes*”To be successful at content marketing, you cannot work in silos. It takes a village to do B2B marketing well, and that means keeping the communication flowing and building trust and having that open collaboration.”*”Bring your whole self to work; your creativity, your resilience and humor. You really, as a leader, should set an example of how to be open and curious and flexible and authentic because it is contagious and it will help you to build an amazing culture on your team.”*”Experiment often. Learn from what works and what doesn't work and keep iterating. Model for people what it looks like to learn from failures and keep moving forward with optimism and lessons learned. So make sure you celebrate the wins that you recognize the great work and you build on it.  Time Stamps[0:55] Meet Victoria Bowman, Senior Director of Brand & Digital Marketing at Collibra[5:49] About the creation of Abbott Elementary[9:49] Marketing Lessons from Abbott Elementary[23:34] The Power of Different Perspectives[24:20] Importance of Setting in Storytelling[24:43] Building Community and Brand Consistency[25:29] Content Strategy and Customer Engagement[28:45] Collaborative Marketing Efforts[35:51] Measuring Content ROI[42:12] Careers in Data Series[43:44] Victoria's Upcoming ProjectsLinksConnect with Victoria on LinkedInLearn more about CollibraAbout Remarkable!Remarkable! is created by the team at Caspian Studios, the premier B2B Podcast-as-a-Service company. Hus, Tyndale, Wycliffe, Luther, and countless thousands of others are rolling over in their graves seeing what the world calls "Evangelicals" and "Protestant" Christianity today swooning over right wing commentators and personalities entering into the Catholic Church. The doctrine of Christ's fully accomplished and completed work for which thousands have paid with their lives to defend has been cast aside for the Christian virtue signaling of embracing all things Catholic and Orthodox (as they still condemn you in their doctrines). While that falling away is occurring, much of Evangelical Christianity has tossed aside any semblance of values or consistency to embrace Donald Trump.I've been mocked, scorned, and even banned on right wing sites for merely quoting (QUOTING, mind you) the doctrines of the Catholic and Orthodox Churches or statements by Donald Trump. We could be seeing the end times apostacy (or apostasy, your choice) forming. Evil on the Left. Evil on the Right. And the work of Christ and his preeminence thrust aside as men seek power and glory and honor.

The Grace Filled Leader-Work Life Balance, Productivity, Time Management, Emotional Intelligence, People Pleasing, Overwhelm

Happy Friday, Friends!    This week we have been talking about integrity.  As Christians, our faith journey is one in which we seek to be more and more like Christ.  In doing so, we are actually called to live with integrity.  We are told (and shown) that God rewards integrity. Today I wanted to look at some of the biblical references that point us to a life lived with integrity.   The Gospel actually tells us to demonstrate integrity in that we should do everything as if we are doing it for the Lord.  In the book of Colossians, chapter 3, the Apostle Paul is outlining how we should live as believers, with our focus being on Christ.  In Chapter 3:23-24 he says, “Whatever you do, work at it with all your heart, as working for the Lord, not for human masters, since you know that you will receive an inheritance from the Lord as a reward. It is the Lord Christ you are serving.”   The bible is filled with stories that demonstrate God's reward for living a life of integrity and pure faith in Him.  Tune in to hear more!   I hope this episode blesses you and that you will continue to join me on this journey toward balance, peace, and freedom to live the abundant life you were called to.   Xoxo, Tanya   Connect: support@gracefilledleader.com Community: Christian Women in Leadership Community Coaching:  Christian Life Coaching with Tanya   If you enjoyed today's episode, the best way you can thank me is to leave a 5-star rating and a written review on apple podcast.  This is the best way for other listeners to find the show and for me to know how best to serve you with the content you enjoy.   Click on “written review” link above, scroll all the way to the bottom, and click on the little purple link that says “Write a Review”   Related Episodes: Episode 40: 3 Ways to Demonstrate Integrity in Leadership Episode 20: 10 Qualities of a Great Leader. The Grace Filled Leader-Work Life Balance, Productivity, Time Management, Emotional Intelligence, People Pleasing, Overwhelm

Hello, Friend!   Let me ask you this… do you demonstrate integrity in your leadership?  Do you demonstrate integrity in your personal and professional life?  What does that even mean?   Well today that is what we are talking about.  We are talking about integrity and what that looks like in leadership.  As you listen, I want you to consider, who stands out in your mind as someone who lives and leads with integrity.  I also want you to take a good hard look at whether you make it on the list.    In assessing your level of integrity, ask yourself the following questions:   Am I setting a good example for my team members? Do I act in a way that builds trust with my team members? Do I take responsibility for my mistakes? Do I hold myself accountable for my decisions and behaviors? Do I follow through on commitments and communications?     I believe that integrity is the cornerstone of great leadership.  It is the key to building a positive, trusting work environment that leads to loyalty and productivity.  It is also a key behavioral indicator to look for when recruiting or promoting team members.     Dwight Eisenhower is quoted as saying: “The supreme quality for leadership is unquestionably integrity. Without it, no real success is possible, whether it is on a section gang, a football field, in an army, or in an office.”   Something that important, is certainly worth some discussion…tune in to hear more! Click on “written review” link above, scroll all the way to the bottom, and click on the little purple link that says “Write a Review”   Related Episodes: Episode 20: 10 Qualities of a Great Leader. Do you ever feel like, as a Christian, you are going against the grain and you feel driven by different things than those around you?  Do you feel like your leadership style is not the most celebrated and is counter to the cultural messages surrounding you?  Well, guess what…it is probably true, and if so, you are probably on the right track.  The unfortunate reality is, the popular worldview of leadership is one that awards power, selfish ambition, arrogance, pride, and pedigree.   Jesus paints a picture of leadership that does not align with our popular culture.  I believe that we are at a critical moment in history.  While the world seems to be on a fast track toward Godlessness, our faith journey is on display for those within our sphere of influence.  We have to do our part to spread a message of hope, grace, and love.  So how does leading God's way, look different than leading the world's way? In this episode we look at what the world tells us about leadership and what the bible tells us about leadership.  I describe 10 qualities of those who function from a spiritual versus secular perspective of leadership.  You will not want to miss this if you truly want to lead and live God's way, not the world's way.    I hope this episode blesses you and that you will continue to join me on this journey toward balance, peace, and freedom to live the abundant life you were called to. Join me on the Fast Track to Grant Writer today: www.teresahuff.com/vip   Last winter I presented a grant writing workshop at a conference in Milwaukee. One of the hosts was The Nonprofit Alliance. You may recognize that name from my past guest Shannon McCracken in Episode 70. I didn't know another soul going into the conference. However, you'd be proud of this introvert. I had a great time and talked to a lot of new people! One of those happened to sit down next to me at lunch. After hearing his story, his passion for building strong teams, and his unique take on leadership, I knew my new friend was a great person for you to meet too. In this episode I'm talking with Tim Ditloff, an avid sailor, about what leadership looks like. With a lot of in depth and fun analogies, he relates sailing to strong leadership. I recommend following Tim on LinkedIn for a lot of thoughtful, inspirational posts on life, leadership, and sailing! Things to Remember As a Leader Tim has a lot of thoughtful wisdom to share with us: Your path might not always be straight. Adjust to the zigs and zags. Celebrate small victories. Rome wasn't built in a day. Each person's seemingly small task is very important in the ultimate journey. How Can Nonprofits Live Out Strong Leadership? Tim has worked with his share of nonprofits over the years. He recommends that we focus on these things: Remember why you exist Remember what you are good at/your strengths Reflect on your progress Map out your course, set up milestones, and celebrate along the way Make sure your team is on the same page Lessons From Sailing on Leadership Tim relates each of the following leadership characteristics to sailing and teaches us how to think about them from a new perspective. Listen in to get all of the thoughtful analogies he gives us on these powerful points: Steward leadership: Take care of each other. You're not on the boat alone. You can't take care of others without taking care of yourself too. Take the time to step back and observe how things are going among your team to make the most impact. Clear communication. Communication is vital for life or death on the sea; communication can be the line between success and failure in a nonprofit. Challenge Question: What sailing lesson from this episode can you compare to your nonprofit journey? I'd love to hear your thoughts! Connect with me on LinkedIn or send me a message. Meet Tim Dittloff: Tim has received world-class training in business, speaking, and sailing – and he puts all of his knowledge to good use, helping companies like yours with leadership development.  Time provides coaching and seminars to company leaders and their teams so they can transform both personally and professionally. Nothing screams summer fun like a dystopian novel that involves characters getting metaphorically stomped on the face over and over and over and loving it in the end. Unfortunately, I believe 85% of them are, at worst, dishonest and at best, incompetent. So if you want me to pay you to invest my money, there's an 85% chance that I'm going to get screwed. In addition to being ironic, the party's slogan is an oxymoron, a statement which on the surface is contradictory, but in reality contains truth. The party slogan holds different meanings, depending on who's reading it, making it an intelligent example of verbal irony: for the inner party it means as long as Oceania is at war, the masses are able to direct their anger at an enemy and not at the party; the inner party enjoys its freedom insomuch as it enslaves the masses, be it outer party members, proletariats, or workers in the war zone; as long as the masses remain ignorant to the truth, the party remains strong. Those not understanding the machinations of the inner party believe peace can only be achieved by conquering the world and eliminating the enemies of the party and of Oceania. They believe that to act freely would lessen Oceania's strength and lead it to possible doom. They believe that any deviation from the party weakens the nation, preferring to remain ignorant.Links8 Short Stories and Novels that Exemplify the Dangers of Big Government Blog PostScience Fiction Lesson PlansShort Story Catalog at ELACOMMONCORELESSONPLANS.comPoetry Collections at ELACommonCoreLessonPlans.com
