Potter Revisited Episode #91 Opting Out of the Opt Out Option AKA Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire, Chapter 31 "The Third Task" We are finally at the last task of the Triwizard Tournament! Harry feels a lot of sympathy for Neville after learning what happened to his parents, and feels a new hatred for Voldemort and what he has cost people For the first time, Harry is properly prepared for a task Rita has changed her tune on Harry - he really should file a lawsuit Hermione has a brainwave about Rita and of course, does not tell Harry and Ron anything If a champion had been Muggle Born, would their family been able to come to Hogwarts? Molly tells Amos that Rita Skeeter is a liar but seemed to believe it when it was about Hermione.... Percy is taking the Mr Crouch news very hard There are some safety guidelines implemented for the Third Task - has opting out been an option this whole time? Was the Third Task set up to be something Harry would excel at? Harry's initial reflect when Fleur is in trouble is to help, but then thinks about the competition Does it seem wrong that Fleur is the one who always seems to struggle in the tournament? It seems to further the bias of female characters that are generally more feminine are not taken seriously? Fake Mood did not count on Cedric being such a good sport and Harry having empathy Harry used all the traits of the houses within the tournament This is where the series really changes - Harry is never the same after this point in the book Snape Sucks count for Chapter 31:0 Email any thoughts, questions or feedback potterrevisitedpodcast@gmail.com Music: Shelter Song by Alexander Nakarada (www.serpentsoundstudios.com) Licensed under Creative Commons BY Attribution 4.0 License https://creativecommons.org/licenses/by/4.0/ Follow Us: Facebook https://www.facebook.com/potterrevisited Twitter https://twitter.com/potterevisited Instagram https://www.instagram.com/potterrevisited_/ Youtube https://www.youtube.com/channel/UC4v2Xt0OIQ8_LCVYhKf2S5A TikTok https://www.tiktok.com/@potterrevisited
Potter Revisited Episode #90 Constant Judgement from your Predecessors AKA Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire, Chapter 30 "The Pensieve" We are back in Dumbledore's office Fudge quickly backpedals when Harry calls him out There is a lot of recapping done about Dumbledore's office but a lot of these things do come back in the series later on Harry is so nosey, we love him for it Interesting seeing the Real Moody in the memories - we get a good idea of his character and Moody's stance on justice We finally get the confirmation that Snape was a Death Eater What testimony did Dumbledore do to clear Snape? It seems incredible that the government just took Dumbledore's word on Snape Ludo getting off due to him being a celebrated athlete is too close to real life We see the court proceeding where Crouch tries his own son - did Barty Jr play up his innocence to make his father look bad? Would Crouch's career been more affected if Barty JR had acting more like Bellatrix in the trial? Did Dumbledore leave the pensieve out on purpose for Harry to find? It still feels odd that Harry did not see the dream through Voldemort's perspective We get more context to Neville's past and Harry has really great empathy Neville's parents being alive but not cognitive feels worse than Harry's parents being dead Dumbledore will not tell Harry anything about Snape's loyalty. Should Dumbledore have given more context? Harry's mistrust of Snape hurts Harry a lot down the line Dumbledore asking Harry not to tell people about Neville's parents and letting Neville decide when to tell people seems like the only time Dumbledore has protected a student that is not Harry How does the Pensieve work and what are the main purposes? We discuss how it could be used in court trials and other uses Snape Sucks count for Chapter 30:0 Email any thoughts, questions or feedback potterrevisitedpodcast@gmail.com Music: Shelter Song by Alexander Nakarada (www.serpentsoundstudios.com) Licensed under Creative Commons BY Attribution 4.0 License https://creativecommons.org/licenses/by/4.0/ Follow Us: Facebook https://www.facebook.com/potterrevisited Twitter https://twitter.com/potterevisited Instagram https://www.instagram.com/potterrevisited_/ Youtube https://www.youtube.com/channel/UC4v2Xt0OIQ8_LCVYhKf2S5A TikTok https://www.tiktok.com/@potterrevisited
Potter Revisited Episode #89 Adult Incompetence AKA Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire, Chapter 29 "The Dream" **Content Warning: Discussion of Hocruxes and potential cannibalism at 32:15 ** Hermione does not like Crouch but still thinks it's odd for Crouch to attack Viktor Hermione does not seem super concerned about Krum being attacked The trio is back to being detectives - give them a murder board! Fred, George, Hermione, Ron and Harry reenact the Spiderman accusation meme Ron reveals how serious the Twins are about making money and their joke shop plans Would Percy turn in the Twins? Fake Moody thinks Hermione would be a good Aurror and Ron just wants to be included Fake Moody is doing his best to stop the dream detective team from finding out his crimes Sirius actually acts like a proper parent and guardian in GoF - why does he regress in OOTP? Does the Dream Harry has seem redundant? Why isn't this dream through Voldemorts perspective - isn't Harry supposed to see all the Voldemort bits through Voldemort because of the Horcrux connection? Could this be a plot hole? How would Trelawney respond if Harry did actually tell her about his dream? Harry has some great logic thinking Dumbledore's password must still be candy themed We love Harry judging Dumbledore on his candy choice At this point we have seen Fudge as kind of pompous but generally good, and now the cracks are starting to form with him We discuss how Horcruxes are made - Content warning - cannibalism Snape Sucks total for Chapter 28: 0 Email any thoughts, questions or feedback potterrevisitedpodcast@gmail.com Music: Shelter Song by Alexander Nakarada (www.serpentsoundstudios.com) Licensed under Creative Commons BY Attribution 4.0 License https://creativecommons.org/licenses/by/4.0/ Follow Us: Facebook https://www.facebook.com/potterrevisited Twitter https://twitter.com/potterevisited Instagram https://www.instagram.com/potterrevisited_/ Youtube https://www.youtube.com/channel/UC4v2Xt0OIQ8_LCVYhKf2S5A TikTok https://www.tiktok.com/@potterrevisited
Potter Revisited Episode #88 Percy Weasley's Boggart AKA Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire, Chapter 28 "The Madness of Mr Crouch" Is this confirmation that Butterbeer is alcoholic? Winky is so sad, yet none of the House Elves besides Dobby don't seem to have any empathy for her Hermione is sent a bunch of hate mail due to Rita Skeeter's article - shouldn't there be process to check the mail students are sent? Why are adults sending a minor child (at a SCHOOL) hate with curses and dangerous substances?? It the grand scheme of things, if there was a bit of truth to Rita's article - is this amount of hate really necessary? Hermione has a real strong sense of self for a girl her age - most teens would not be able to handle this with the amount of grace as she does Hagrid seems to finally hit the sweet spot with teaching - the lesson he plans with the Nifflers is interactive, fun and not overly dangerous How the Weasley siblings deal with their financial insecurity is all very interesting Ron internalizes it The Twins are proactive and work on creating a business Percy follows in his fathers footsteps and enters the Ministry, and plans to work his way up the corporate ladder Bill and Charlie both take career paths that lead them out of the country Rita is not ready for the wrath Hermione has coming for her It is disappointing how Mrs Weasley is treating Hermione - why does she believe this article when she knows how Rita Skeeter is? Does the way Mrs Weasley treat the boys VS the girls show a character flaw? Percy sends his letter regarding Mr Crouch and he is not pleased Viktor pulls Harry aside for a private word - this would have been such a great scene for the film Why does Snape stop Harry when it is obviously an emergency? + 1 Sucks point Karkaroff does have a point from his perspective - this tournament is very suspicious Is this the first time we really see Hagrid's rage? Is it odd hearing very negative and prejudice talk from Hagrid, who is generally very open and friendly Its unfortunate the Mr Crouch plotline with pretty much cut from the films - this would have been a great dramatic scene after the comic relief of Harry and Krum's talk Seeing Mr Crouch like this would be Percy's boggart Lots of foreshadowing from Crouch Snape Sucks total for Chapter 28: 1 Email any thoughts, questions or feedback to potterrevisitedpodcast@gmail.com Music: Shelter Song by Alexander Nakarada (www.serpentsoundstudios.com) Licensed under Creative Commons BY Attribution 4.0 License https://creativecommons.org/licenses/by/4.0/ Follow Us: Facebook https://www.facebook.com/potterrevisited Twitter https://twitter.com/potterevisited Instagram https://www.instagram.com/potterrevisited_/ Youtube https://www.youtube.com/channel/UC4v2Xt0OIQ8_LCVYhKf2S5A TikTok https://www.tiktok.com/@potterrevisited
Potter Revisited Episode #87 The Scarlett Woman AKA Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire, Chapter 27 "Padfoot Returns" Is it strange that people were teasing Hermione about Krum? wouldn't people try and cozy up to her to get close to Krum? Rita's next article comes out which is an attack on Hermione's character - how was she able to publish this about a minor? Hermione doesn't care what Rita says about her, but it is sad to think that Mrs Weasley believes this article and it changes how she treats Hermione later on Ron handles the article pretty well, and only seems concerned that Krum invited Hermione to visit him in the summer Is it weird that Krum invited Hermione to visit him due to the age gap? +1 Snape Sucks point for Snape deciding to embrass Harry by reading the article out loud +1 Snape Sucks point for threatening Harry with truth serum Karkaroff being suspicious It's nice that Harry kept his promise and bought Dobby socks Bagman is such a red herring in this book, and it turns out his is just a bad employee and kind of bad person It's so nice seeing Sirius as a real character Crouch sent Sirius to prison without a trial - if Sirius had gotten a trial, would things have been different? Sirius brings up an interesting point to the kids that people on the 'good side' can also be bad Crouch sent his own son to prison - why didn't he recuse himself? It feels odd when Sirius talks about his childhood with Snape that he never mentions that Snape was friends with Lily Ron says that Percy would turn them in if it stood in the way of his career - interesting foreshadowing to Percy choosing the Ministry over his family in OOTP Rita has unlocked Hermione's unhinged petty side and she is not ready for what is coming Snape Sucks total for Chapter 27: 2 Email any thoughts, questions or feedback to potterrevisitedpodcast@gmail.com Music: Shelter Song by Alexander Nakarada (www.serpentsoundstudios.com) Licensed under Creative Commons BY Attribution 4.0 License https://creativecommons.org/licenses/by/4.0/ Follow Us: Facebook https://www.facebook.com/potterrevisited Twitter https://twitter.com/potterevisited Instagram https://www.instagram.com/potterrevisited_/ Youtube https://www.youtube.com/channel/UC4v2Xt0OIQ8_LCVYhKf2S5A TikTok https://www.tiktok.com/@potterrevisited
Potter Revisited Episode #86 Gillyweed: High in Moral Fiber AKA Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire, Chapter 26 "The Second Task" Procrastination Harry is at it again We miss the hats in the movies! Neville accidentally banishing Prof Flitchwick - is it impressive? Ron is back on the Snape is Evil train Harry wondering what Snape did to lose a first chance with Dumbledore - we remember Harry's reaction in HBP Harry thinking of Aqua Lungs - would he lose points for using a Muggle solution for a task? Hermione brings up Human Transfiguration - which makes us reflect on Harry's dad and friends accomplishing this Hagrid knows a lot more about 'normal' magical creatures - he definitely teaches what he thinks is cool How much planning went into this task? Were parents aware of their kids doing this? Harry assumes what the Merpeople will take is an object, notably his firebolt Dobby comes to save the day! Do the other champions know it was a person taken from then? Harry cares so much about Ron, he takes this so seriously Do the champions hostages make sense? Krum has only known Hermione for a few months, and Cedric and Cho just started dating Why was Percy permitted to judge the tournament? He is just an assistant! Is this one of Harry's character-defining moments? He doesn't care about the competition, he is only focused on saving everyone Really nice how much more character Fleur has in the book Shay is not a fan of the Merpeople song, and rewrites it Snape Sucks total for Chapter 26: 0 Email any thoughts, questions or feedback to potterrevisitedpodcast@gmail.com Music: Shelter Song by Alexander Nakarada (www.serpentsoundstudios.com) Licensed under Creative Commons BY Attribution 4.0 License https://creativecommons.org/licenses/by/4.0/ Follow Us: Facebook https://www.facebook.com/potterrevisited Twitter https://twitter.com/potterevisited Instagram https://www.instagram.com/potterrevisited_/ Youtube https://www.youtube.com/channel/UC4v2Xt0OIQ8_LCVYhKf2S5A TikTok https://www.tiktok.com/@potterrevisited
Potter Revisited Episode #85 Petty Pyjama Party AKA Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire, Chapter 25 "The Egg and the Eye" Harry decides to finally use Cedric's advice and use the Prefect bathroom to take a bath with the egg We get why Harry suddenly thinks he should be a Prefect - just for the bathroom perks This bathroom sounds like goals - a bathtub as big as a pool? There is a lot of recapping from previous books in this chapter - is it really necessary? Seems to be a big theme of it in GoF specifically Myrtle is back! We are cursed with that scene from the GoF movie Why does sewage exist in the magical world? Interesting to see a bit of Myrtle's backstory after she died - how much control does the Ministry have over ghosts? Interesting that when learning the Merpeople will take something from him, Harry is thinking of objects, like his firebolt Harry is so chaotic, deciding to go investing who is in Snape's office in the middle of the night Why didn't Harry use a summoning charm to get the map back? Filch and Peeve's beef is so great Shay loves analyzing Filch and Peeves as the ID and Super Ego All the profs are showing up in their PJs - what an image Snape does not want to share what is going on with Moody - does he suspect Moody is an imposter? Lots of Death Eater foreshadowing from Moody Moody gaslights Snape so hard Moody suggests that Harry should be an aurror - is that just an off comment since this Moody is an imposer This idea of being an aurror sticks with Harry throughout the series - was this the best career choice for Harry? We discuss the trios careers post-Hogwarts and what we would imagine their lives after the series to be Snape Sucks total for Chapter 25: 0 Email any thoughts, questions or feedback to potterrevisitedpodcast@gmail.com Music: Shelter Song by Alexander Nakarada (www.serpentsoundstudios.com) Licensed under Creative Commons BY Attribution 4.0 License https://creativecommons.org/licenses/by/4.0/ Follow Us: Facebook https://www.facebook.com/potterrevisited Twitter https://twitter.com/potterevisited Instagram https://www.instagram.com/potterrevisited_/ Youtube https://www.youtube.com/channel/UC4v2Xt0OIQ8_LCVYhKf2S5A TikTok https://www.tiktok.com/@potterrevisited
Potter Revisited Episode #84 Hearsay & Slander AKA Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire, Chapter 24 "Rita Skeeter's Scoop" Just like in this chapter, we are over the Christmas holidays Hermione used SleekEasy for her hair - which is where Harry's fortune comes from Hermione is so unfazed by Hagrid being a half-giant Hermione and Ron are acting overly polite to each other - definitely not discussing their fight Harry is facing the consequences for his procrastination - the 2nd task is coming up Harry is so petty, not wanting to use Cedric's advice for the egg clue We are introduced to Professor Grubbly-Plank Malfoy saved this article just to ruin Harry's day - Malfoy is such a Twitter guy The interview Hagrid gave to Rita is out - but it definitely isn't the interview he gave This is 100% slander and Hagrid should sue The Article reveals Hagrid as a Half-Giant and how he is a vicious, terrible person/teacher. The article is really prejudice and reminds us of the terrible tabloid media in the 90s - especially in the UK It is nice for the students to get an actual proper lesson for once The trio see Viktor swimming in the lake - does he have the egg figured out and is scoping out the lake? Hermione is trying to talk Krum up but Ron just wants him to be eaten by the Giant Squid Bagman is hanging out at the Three Broomsticks - does he ever work? We learn that Mr Crouch is ill and Percy is filling in - shouldn't this have been a red flag for the Ministry? Bagman offers Harry help again and Harry brings up Cedric - we love Harry being so honest and a good sport Interesting how Rita speaks with Harry despite him calling her out in front of the whole bar compared to how she speaks to Hermione - Harry is someone as note whereas Hermione isn't anyone important to her Rita should be more scared of Hermione Hermione is fired up and marches down to Hagrid's to get him to come back and ends up face to face with Dumbledore - this would have been such a great scene for the films Dumbledore seems to be a good friend to Hagrid here Alberforth is mentioned by Dumbledore - does the way Dumbledore refers to him come off as elitist? "I don't trust goats" - Tori Its nice to see Hagrid voice the similarities between himself and Harry - they have a very weird relationship but it's very sweet at the same time Harry decides he has to figure out the egg clue because he can't let Hagrid down Harry should be suing people all the time If Hermione killed Rita as a bug would it be murder? If you die in Anamagius form, would you stay like that? Let us know what you think! Potter Revisited Episode #83 Yet Another Cinderella Story AKA Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire, Chapter 23 "The Yule Ball" The Yule Ball is here and it is just as chaotic as any other school dance This was Tori's favourite chapter growing up Ron keeps trying to find out who Hermione's date is - why does she keep it a secret? Even Malfoy can't bring Hermione down Ron notices that Hermione had her teeth shrunk Does Ron treat Pigwidgeon poorly due to what happened with Scabbers? Hermione points out that Krum did what Sirius suggested - foreshadowing to her date? Sirius is team Don't Procrastinate Harry - listen to him!!! Harry is jumpscared by Dobby Christmas Morning Should Harry given Dobby a better pair of socks? The best gift Dobby could give Ron is positive affirmation - he needs it Who did Hermione get ready with? Why didn't Ron ask for help fixing his robes? Hermione's "Cinderella" moment - did the film adaption nail this better than the books? When did Ron notice Hermione at the dance with Krum? We get to see Viktor speak for the first time Little bit of Room of Requirement foreshadowing Is Pavarti on to something with how creepy Moody is? Harry and Ron are the worst dates Ron goes to his default when confronting with overwhelming emotions - picks a fight with Hermione Snape is actually being a good chaperone Hagrid reveals he is a half giant - showing a very vulnerable and different side to him Should Cedric been more direct about his tip? Hermione has her Mic Drop moment "Next time there is a ball, ask me before someone else does, and not as a last resort!" Is Ron mature enough to understand and process his feelings for Hermione? Does Hermione and Krum's age gap change how we view their relationship? Potter Revisited Episode #82 Chaos is a Dance AKA Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire, Chapter 22 "The Unexpected Task" Puberty, Crushes, School dances... growing pains are here! The series having a school dance is such a fun and memorable part of growing up and a great way to age up the characters It does feel weird that Harry is forced to have a partner for a dance - he is only 14! Hagrid had his interview with Rita Skeeter - but she just wanted tea on Harry Why is Rita changing her angle on Harry? Whats the protocol for firing a ghost teacher? The students need a good teacher that makes history interesting! Harry is already back on his Procrastination - that's going to come back and bite him Why did the Twins ask Ron for his owl if they didn't want him to ask questions? This chapter gives us a lot of flash backs to school dances and our high school prom memories Is getting ready for a dance better than the actual dance? Should Harry just of taken Ron to the dance? A few girls ask Harry to the dance which seems pretty progressive for the time this was written Fred is the confidence king over here - the way he asks Angelina to the dance is crazy Is Ron's statement of wanting the Best Girl as a date more about his insecurities? Harry asking Cho out and the rejection is so awkward and relatable Would Cho have gone with Harry if Cedric hadn't asked her? Harry can't feel too bad because Ron embarrassed himself worse Do Fleur and Bill ever tease Ron about how he asked Fleur to the dance? Ginny is conversing with Harry pretty normally for the first time in the series despite being able to tell she is still hung up on Harry Ron needs to get over himself, Neville would be a great date! The pivotal moment where Ron realizes that Hermione is a girl!!!! my dude!!!! When Ron suggested Hermione goes with either him or Harry, how would he actually feel if Hermione went with Harry? Does Ginny know who Hermione is going with? It really shows Ginny's character that she sticks with Neville even though Ron tries to get her to go with Harry - who she has a huge crush on Interesting that Pavarti suggests Ron go with Hermione - is that just a throwaway suggestion, or does she know something? Potter Revisited Episode #81 Barmy Old Codger AKA Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire, Chapter 21 "The House-Elf Liberation Front" Ron is acting super enthusiastic to make it up to Harry - something he also does in DH Love that Harry gave Sirius a full play-by-play on the first task Ron just spoils Harry's surprise party and no one says anything? How do the other houses throw parties? Dean is the only one that really has a hobby Harry opens the egg and Neville thinks it's the cruciatus curse - lots of foreshadowing hints about Neville's past and also Harry does have the curse used on him later on Fred and George's canary creams are such advanced magic Hermione trying to manipulate F&G to tell her about the kitchens is fun Are the students getting drunk off the whisky fumes Hagrid set out for the Beauxbaton horses? How is Rita able to just get onto the grounds when she was banned? This is a school! How does Hogwarts monitor visitors? Should Harry just told Hagrid to not do anything with Rita even if it was rude? Dobby is at Hogwarts! Its very cool seeing Dobby again and how he is handling being a free elf, compared to Winky who is miserable Winky let's slip that Crouch thinks Bagman is a bad wizard - we are getting lot of different hints about potential "bad guys" that through us off the real villain of this book Ron offers Dobby his christmas jumper - but wouldn't Mrs Weasley just make Dobby his own sweater if asked? We as Canadians try and figure out how pies fit in pockets Percy is ragged on a lot in this chapter for not being able to take a joke / being a stick in the mud. He isn't even present! It is interesting seeing how the other House Elves seem wary of Dobby Has the SPEW plot aged well? It does get hard to read Hermione constantly being put down by everyone despite being right Snape Sucks total for Chapter 21: 0 Email any thoughts, questions or feedback to potterrevisitedpodcast@gmail.com Music: Shelter Song by Alexander Nakarada (www.serpentsoundstudios.com) Licensed under Creative Commons BY Attribution 4.0 License https://creativecommons.org/licenses/by/4.0/ Follow Us: Facebook https://www.facebook.com/potterrevisited Twitter https://twitter.com/potterevisited Instagram https://www.instagram.com/potterrevisited_/ Youtube https://www.youtube.com/channel/UC4v2Xt0OIQ8_LCVYhKf2S5A TikTok https://www.tiktok.com/@potterrevisited
Potter Revisited Episode #80 Potential Painful Embarrassing Public Death AKA Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire, Chapter 20 "The First Task" The first task is coming and Harry is stressed How would you defeat a Dragon? Harry actually contemplates running away from Hogwarts It's very mature of Harry to realize Cedric is the only one who doesn't know about the dragons and decides to tell Cedric Shay compiles all the spells Harry does each year so far (the spells that are said verbally) What are Harry's top three spells? Harry has been into almost every DADA professors office - interesting Ron seems to be trying to catch Harry's eye - but Harry is too angry do anything Hermione should threaten Harry with Dragons more - it's how he learned the summoning charm McGonagall has Harry's best interest at heart - we love her The anticipation of waiting for Harry's turn in the first task is very relatable - like giving a public speech in school or waiting to ride a rollercoaster Bagman offers to help Harry and Harry is suspicious Harry's battle with the dragon is quite short compared to the movie Is having the champions face real dragons cruel to the dragons? McGonagall is probably chain smoking after this - and Pomfrey is pissed Hermione brings Ron to Harry and Ron finally apologizes for not believing Harry - it is actually very mature of Ron to admit verbally he was wrong Hermione bursts into tears and the boys look at her like she's crazy - but she's been through a lot! Harry and Ron never really talk about their feelings - maybe they should of talked this through more Bagman gives Harry a perfect score - does this seem to obvious? Does having the two UK organizers as judges seem a bit bias for scoring? It should be judged like Four Weddings! Harry doesn't really care about his score because he has his Weasley back! Potter Revisited Episode #79 Burning Fire & Cutting Words Me AKA Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire, Chapter 19 "The Hungarian Horntail" Harry procrastinated too hard and the first task is upon us It's crazy the first task was supposed to be a complete suprise Rita Skeeter's article comes out and it's terrible How does Rita keep her job? Is she blackmailing people? The article claims that Hermione is Harry's girlfriend - does she like the attention? Does Ron believe that Harry and Hermione are dating and that's why he didn't speak to him during their detention Tori reveals the fanfiction she wrote about Ron's reaction to Rita's article Why was Mrs Weasley so quick to believe Rita's article? Hermione is such a good friend for hanging out with Harry when he's under the invisibility cloak Hagrid basically invites Harry to third wheel his date The first task is dragons - does that feel cruel? Charlie is here! It's such a shame he was missed him the films Hermione is over Ron and Harry's fight Hermione is annoyed by Krum always hanging in the library Lots of Ron and Hermione hints! Are they aware of their feelings at this point? Harry is finally able to talk to Sirius - who is very on it and able to reassure Harry Of course Ron interrupts just when Sirius was going to reveal how to get past the dragons Harry explodes at Ron and directly points out his jealousy in a cutting line Does hearing Harry point out how ridiculous his jealousy is cause him to get over it and help him make up with Harry next chapter? Potter Revisited Episode #78 Rita Skeeter Bugs Me AKA Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire, Chapter 18 "The Weighing of the Wands" The aftermath of Harry and Ron's falling out is hard to read Bless Hermione coming in with toast Hermione provides a great read on Ron and shows a lot of emotional growth from PoA Harry tries so hard to hide the danger around casual conversation in his letter to Sirius Ron really is the thing Harry would miss the most Hermione gets caught in the crossfire of Harry's bad temper and Malfoy provoking him This is hands down one of the worst Snape moments in the series - there is no reason to be rude to Hermione and it seems even more cruel to comment on a young teen girls appearance +2 Snape Sucks points Colin is a lot - why does he have such hero worship of Harry still? The photographer seems to be eying Fleur in a creepy way There really should of been a chaperone or advocate for the champions since technically they are all students and Harry is a minor We are introduced to Rita Skeeter and she is just as bad as we remember How is the slander Rita writes allowed to go forth? Olivander is back to look over the wands - and keeps the secret of Harry's wand core to himself Its interesting the connection between the wands and the wizard How would Fleur's wand differ by having the core that belongs to a relation? Potter Revisited Episode #77 Exciting Death Tournament AKA Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire, Chapter 17 "The Four Champions" Harry being stared at in the Great Hall when it's dead quiet is our worst nightmare Bagman is really excited about Harry being chosen - is this because he is planning his bet on Harry? Karkaroff and Maxime are mad and they have a right to be Does Snape really think Harry could hoodwink the Goblet of Fire? +1 Sucks Dumbledore asks CALMLY Why is no one speaking to Harry or really acknowledge him The concept of Harry having to participate isn't really explained - is it weak writing? Interesting that Moody comes out and says exactly how Harry was entered because he is the one who did it Why wasn't a more serious investigation into how Harry was entered? Crouch is not doing well Harry really has no agency Poor Cedric has every reason to be pissed at Harry but he takes it in stride It's so sad that Harry never thought Ron wouldn't believe him - never crossed his mind Ron tries so hard to hold it together but he can't Jealousy is a beast Snape Sucks total for Chapter 17: 1 Email any thoughts, questions or feedback to potterrevisitedpodcast@gmail.com Music: Shelter Song by Alexander Nakarada (www.serpentsoundstudios.com) Licensed under Creative Commons BY Attribution 4.0 License https://creativecommons.org/licenses/by/4.0/ Follow Us: Facebook https://www.facebook.com/potterrevisited Twitter https://twitter.com/potterevisited Instagram https://www.instagram.com/potterrevisited_/ Youtube https://www.youtube.com/channel/UC4v2Xt0OIQ8_LCVYhKf2S5A TikTok https://www.tiktok.com/@potterrevisited
Potter Revisited Episode #76 Glory is the Priority AKA Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire, Chapter 16 "The Goblet of Fire" Title chapter is here - the plot is thickening Ron is living his fanboy dreams with Krum at Hogwarts Interesting the Durmstrang students choose to sit with the Slytherins and the Beauxbatons sit with the Ravenclaws Ron sees Fleur for the first time and is transfixed - but Harry seems fine. Why is Ron so affected? The Goblet of Fire is introduced and the students are old putting your name in is a magical contract - are they old enough to understand that? Harry runs into Karkaroff - foreshadowing for his past? Are the Twins desperate to enter the tournament for the money they need for their future? Everyone agrees that Cedric is super fit - good for him Angelina would have been another great candidate for Hogwarts champion Hagrid is also quite taken by someone from Beauxbatons - even ditching the trio Hagrid says he never thought he'd live to see the tournament again - has he seen it before? Why does Krum enter the tournament? Wouldn't it conflict with his Quidditch training? The three champions are chosen, and then it all goes wrong when Harry's name is chosen as well! #PlotTwist Why is Harry forced to compete when he didn't put his name in? What is the consequence of breaking the magical contract forced by the Goblet of Fire? Is Harry's name in the goblet weak writing? Potter Revisited Episode #75 Mad Eye Moody AKA Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire, Chapter 15 "Beauxbatons and Durmstrang" Harry is stressed about Sirius coming back into the country and tries to lie to Sirius Moody is now putting the Imperius Curse on the students to see if they can through it off - isn't it illegal??? Is Harry able to through off the curse because he has been hit with an Unforgivable Curse before or because he is a Horcrux? Should Hagrid be teasing Malfoy about being turned into a ferret? Hermione thinks Cedric is a good candidate because he is a good student and prefect and Ron brings up she only values him because he is Handsome - does this show Ron's immaturity about the opposite sex? When did Hermione realize she had feelings for Ron that are more than friendship? Filch has clean the whole castle for company by himself - seems unfair F&G are short with Ron which is one of the first times we see them super secretive Hermione is still going strong with SPEW despite the flack she has been getting from others "Nice Try, Harry" Beauxbatons entrance & Madame Maxime seem so french - very rich and stylish We love seeing a female school headmaster Why did the film decide to make Beauxbatons and Durmstrang all girl / boy schools? Does it force gender norms too much? Karkaroff seems slimey Ron's fanboy moment - Viktor Krum is at Hogwarts! Potter Revisited Episode #74 Mad Eye Moody AKA Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire, Chapter 14 "The Unforgivable Curses" Snape gives Neville the worst detention -disembowelling toads - +1 Snape Sucks because that has to be intentional Snape seems wary of Moody We know that this Moody is actually Barty Crouch Jr but he does a good job as a teacher Dumbledore is the reason the Unforgivable Curses are being taught to the 4th years this year There was no care in this class which has both Harry and Neville in it - who have trauma related to the curses they are seeing Foreshadowing hint of Neville bringing up the Cruciatus Curse It is very hard to think that Barty Crouch Jr knows who Neville is when he is one of the people that helped tortured his parents It is one thing for Neville to volunteer the curse but we do not think he was prepared to see what the curse does knowing what happened to his parents Harry seeing the spell that killed his parents is also hard to read, as he is reflecting on how they died Hermione is the only one showing Neville kindness and looks out for him - he really is the odd one out Could Harry and Ron's made up predictions for Divination be real? Foreshadowing of the Twins blackmail plot Hermione has started SPEW all within her first week back at school Tori reveals herself as a Ron/Hermione shipper Hedwig arrives back with Sirius' letter and Harry is worried Snape Sucks total for Chapter 14: 1 Email any thoughts, questions or feedback to potterrevisitedpodcast@gmail.com Music: Shelter Song by Alexander Nakarada (www.serpentsoundstudios.com) Licensed under Creative Commons BY Attribution 4.0 License https://creativecommons.org/licenses/by/4.0/ Follow Us: Facebook https://www.facebook.com/potterrevisited Twitter https://twitter.com/potterevisited Instagram https://www.instagram.com/potterrevisited_/ Youtube https://www.youtube.com/channel/UC4v2Xt0OIQ8_LCVYhKf2S5A TikTok https://www.tiktok.com/@potterrevisited
Potter Revisited Episode #73 Mad Eye Moody AKA Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire, Chapter 13 "Mad Eye Moody" We are back to Hogwarts and lessons begin Hermione telling Harry and Ron they should of dropped Divination like her Hermione is back to eating - what is she planning? Harry is over Trelawney predicting his death 24/7 Herbology has the Blubertubers which sounds a lot like pimple popping Should Hogwarts have some kind of talk about personal care and magic? Just so students don't try and curse their acne off Hagrid has a new project for the 4th years - Skrewts Shay is all about Divination unlike Harry and Ron This is the first time Harry has seen Trewlawney since her real prediction Interesting Trewlawney says Harry is born mid winter when he was born in July but Voldemort was born in Decemeber - is she picking up on the Horcrux? Malfoy is back trying to ruin Ron's day Malfoy insults Ron's mom but is super upset Harry insults his mom - get out of the kitchen, Draco! Moody turns Malfoy into a ferret as a punishment for attacking Harry - is it deserved? It is interesting seeing both sides of Moody's intentions as we know rereading that is Moody is fake Ron is never forgetting this moment The Twins remark how awesome Moody is, gearing us up for next chapter Snape Sucks total for Chapter 13: 0 Email any thoughts, questions or feedback to potterrevisitedpodcast@gmail.com Music: Shelter Song by Alexander Nakarada (www.serpentsoundstudios.com) Licensed under Creative Commons BY Attribution 4.0 License https://creativecommons.org/licenses/by/4.0/ Follow Us: Facebook https://www.facebook.com/potterrevisited Twitter https://twitter.com/potterevisited Instagram https://www.instagram.com/potterrevisited_/ Youtube https://www.youtube.com/channel/UC4v2Xt0OIQ8_LCVYhKf2S5A TikTok https://www.tiktok.com/@potterrevisited
Potter Revisited Episode #72 Probably With Magic AKA Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire, Chapter 12 "The Triwizard Tournament" Peeves throwing water balloons at already soaked students is just what we expect him to be doing We learn that Colin Creevey's younger brother is joining Hogwarts this year - is it usual to have two magical kids with magical parents? The Sorting Hat has a new song Nick reveals there is a Ghost Council and also that their are House Elves at Hogwarts which devastates Hermione Thank God Dumbledore waited to cancel the Quidditch season after Oliver Wood left Mad Eye Moody has the most dramatic entrance Neville wants to make his family proud and hold up the family honour Interesting Harry has a dream about entering the Triwizard Tournament The Tournament seems very Gryffindor coded Is 17 too young to make that kind of commitment? Did Dumbledore plan for the Triwizard Tournament for his own plans and motivations? Potter Revisited Episode #71 Probably With Magic AKA Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire, Chapter 11 "Aboard The Hogwarts Express" We are going back to Hogwarts! Harry is feeling gloomy about the end of the summer holidays Does the gloomy and stormy weather foreshadow the dark changes coming? Amos is using the floo fire with only his head - interesting adaption to this travel method Arthur is tasked to help Mad Eye Moody Should Kings Cross have a floo section? We learn that Malfoy almost went to Durmstrang How does Durmstrang gatekeep Muggles existence from the school? How much Dark Arts does Durmstrang teach? Interesting how Hermione has a bad view of Durmstrang which changes a little bit as she gets to know Krum Malfoy comes to bother Harry and Ron because he has no life Ron is really suffering through it Is Hagrid taking the 1st years across the lake in the storm a liability? Potter Revisited Episode #70 Why Not The Moon? AKA Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire, Chapter 10 "Mayhem at the Ministry" We deal with the fallout from last chapter Poor Mr Roberts Mrs Weasley hugging the Twins - and what it says about their relationship Hermione making Mrs Weasley tea is the best We are introduced to Rita Skeeter The fight between the press and the government is very real and relatable Harry relays his dream to Ron and Hermione but leaves out he was the one Voldemort was plotting to kill Hermione's idea of what to do after a dark event VS Ron and Harry is relatable How are they allowed to play Quidditch when they are underage and away from school? Fun Mundungas Fletcher mention Was how they set up the Quidditch World Cup a liability waiting to happen? Percy calls out his dad for making a mistake - showing the change in how Percy sees his family? Are Fred and George starting to see Ludo scammed them? Percy and Hermione argue again - showing Hermione having a more moral compass than Percy at this moment Ron's reaction to dress robes is fun Could Mrs Weasley have done something to make Ron's dress robes look better? Does Ron's reaction to Harry's better dress robes foreshadow Ron's jealousy and insecurities coming out later in this book? Potter Revisited Episode #69 Safety Now, Clarification Later AKA Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire, Chapter 9 "The Dark Mark" Very dark chapter Harry's dream is interesting as this is the first time we see him consider his future outside of school rereading as a an adult really highlights the assault Mr Roberts family faces Draco basically implies his parents are death eaters Why were students traveling with Madame Maxime if it is still summer holidays? Harry realizes he has lost his wand - kind of similar to losing your phone now and how vulnerable you feel without it Why does Ron seem more affected by the Veelas than Harry? Could Harry being a Horcurx stop him from being as affected? Winky is seen in the forest and the beginning of Hermione's SPEW foundation Ludo being bad at his job Crouch trying to align himself with Harry as the least likely to be connected to the Dark Arts is interesting knowing the illegal things he has done at this point How Winky is spoken to by Amos and Mr Crouch is hard to read Hermione standing up for Winky is really when Shay starts to get on the Hermione bandwagon Interesting the idea is brought up only death eaters could cast the dark mark, and the idea someone could be a friend rather than a foe - foreshadowing to Snape being a double agent Hermione and Percy have a disagreement for the first time - over Winky Very big tone shift in this chapter - things are going to get more mature and darker as we continue Snape Sucks total for Chapter 9: 0 Email any thoughts, questions or feedback to potterrevisitedpodcast@gmail.com Music: Shelter Song by Alexander Nakarada (www.serpentsoundstudios.com) Licensed under Creative Commons BY Attribution 4.0 License https://creativecommons.org/licenses/by/4.0/ Follow Us: Facebook https://www.facebook.com/potterrevisited Twitter https://twitter.com/potterevisited Instagram https://www.instagram.com/potterrevisited_/ Youtube https://www.youtube.com/channel/UC4v2Xt0OIQ8_LCVYhKf2S5A TikTok https://www.tiktok.com/@potterrevisited
Potter Revisited Episode #67 Conspicuous Wizard Camping AKA Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire, Chapter 7 "Bagman and Crouch" We are finally at the world cup! The atmosphere at the beginning of the chapter really nails how it feels to go to a live sporting event Love the Ads - adds a great touch We are introduced to Winky the House elf - who is the opposite of Dobby Percy is being super embarrassing in his attempt to make connections Interesting how Fudge interacts with Harry in the top box, knowing how things change as soon as Harry isn't politically useful We are introduced to Narcissa when the Malfoys arrive Should the Veela be described as creatures? It feels wrong as they are at least humanoid Are the Veela a liability? Is it lucky that no one actually jumped into the stadium like Harry was thinking Do Veela only affect men or is it attraction-based? It's interesting that this is Harry's first time really watching Quidditch - and professional level quidditch at that The Ref getting caught up by the Veela's - we would leave the country if this was us Interesting Hermione's view of Krum changes when he does something she thinks is brave Shay brings up her issues with the fact that Krum catches the snitch even though his team is behind in points Was it done to stress the point that catching the snitch isn't a guaranteed win? How were the twins able to predict the win? Potter Revisited Episode #67 Conspicuous Wizard Camping AKA Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire, Chapter 7 "Bagman and Crouch" Could 'Bagman and Crouch' be a trendy TikTok dance? The fashion choices the Wizards have in this chapter are amazing Shay looked up what Point Fours are - not what we were expecting The tent described as being made of silk with Peacocks out front - 100% the Malfoy's tent Should the Ministry done more work to help the Wizards manage Muggle money and clothing? Feels wrong that Mr Roberts is having his memory wiped multiple times a day - wouldn't this affect him long term? Mr Weasley assuming all Muggles camp - like the Dursley's Tori needs a magical tent in her life - Canada's housing market is garbage Harry's first time seeing Wizard kids - do magical kids have more control or magical ability being raised with the knowledge of magic? The Salem witches Institute - we discuss how wizarding schooling could be done in America / Canada Hermione thinks Krum looks grumpy - Ron is aghast. Interesting how things will change Tori is hear for Archie and his nightgown If this was taking place now, would we even care about what these wizards are wearing? Clothing is much more gender fluid these days Harry sees Cho and spills water down his front - classic Harry realizes how big the Wizarding Community is Mr Weasley seems to have a good reputation in the Ministry and he knows lots of people in multiple departments Interesting how Mr Weasley sees his job at the Ministry VS Percy who sees his current job as a stepping stone Interesting bets made for the World Cup - Agatha with her Eel farm seems steep Percy is so excited to have Mr Crouch there... and he doesn't know Percy's name Ludo Bagman really does live up to the washed up athlete that ends up in an important position he doesn't deserve In contrast Crouch obviously worked for what he had and takes everything very seriously Snape Sucks total for Chapter 7: 0 Email any thoughts, questions or feedback to potterrevisitedpodcast@gmail.com Music: Shelter Song by Alexander Nakarada (www.serpentsoundstudios.com) Licensed under Creative Commons BY Attribution 4.0 License https://creativecommons.org/licenses/by/4.0/ Follow Us: Facebook https://www.facebook.com/potterrevisited Twitter https://twitter.com/potterevisited Instagram https://www.instagram.com/potterrevisited_/ Youtube https://www.youtube.com/channel/UC4v2Xt0OIQ8_LCVYhKf2S5A TikTok https://www.tiktok.com/@potterrevisited
Potter Revisited Episode #66 The Hot Weasley AKA Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire, Chapter 6 "The Portkey" On the top of the episode we want to address the recent issue of the author once again using her platform to target and hurt the Trans community - There is no justification for what she is doing and we stand with the Trans community. The opening of the chapter really feels similar to preparing to go on an early flight - you are tired but excited We learn what Treacle is We feel the younger kids pain knowing that Bill, Charlie and Percy get to sleep in because they can Apparate Fred is talking like he can apparate - would he know how? Splinching sounds awful Fred and George try to slip out of the house with all of their toffees - should they have come up with a better plan? Lots of friction between the Twins and Mrs Weasley about how she feels the twins have no ambition and the Twins pushing back on what they want to do Portkeys are introduced and their is a lot of foreshadowing We meet Amos and Cedric Diggory Amos is just a dad living through his son and is so embarrassing The Lovegoods are offhandedly mentioned - Shay also hates this name We discuss all the transportation methods we have been introduced to - especially in this chapter How is wizard travel regulated? Potter Revisited Episode #65 The Hot Weasley AKA Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire, Chapter 5 "Weasley's Wizard Wheezes" We are finally back at the burrow! It is confirmed the Twins had not tested the product they slipped to Dudley last chapter Ton Tongue Toffee is a really good product name Mr Weasley has a good point about the optics of Fred and George giving Dudley the prank sweet and how it could affect his work Mr Weasley is mad but not has much as Mrs Weasley Mrs Weasley is upset about the Twins OWL marks - she wants the to work at the Ministry which seems to be one of the only job options the series shows so far She sees Fred and George as not having ambition since she doesn't see a joke shop as a serious venture but the twins clearly have lots of ambition it just shows differently than with Percy Percy has his job at the Ministry, which he has been working towards for a long time, and no one seems to respect him or what he has accomplished and he clearly needs the validation We get our first mention of Mr Couch, who's name is repeated multiple times this chapter Bill and Charlie prove to not be like Percy as they are battling with tables in the air outside Percy seems to talk to Bill and Charlie differently than his younger siblings Shay thinks that Ludo giving Mr Weasley the World Cup tickets after covering up for his brother a bit corrupt We get a Bertha Jorkins mention - interesting that we as the reader know she is dead from chapter 1 but the characters think she is missing Viktor Krum is also mentioned - is he the Sydney Crosby or Carrie Price of Quidditch? Fred and George reveal at the end of the chapter that they sent Percy dragon dung to his office - this feels more cruel than the usually siblings pranks especially since no one seems to respect Percy We finally get to meet Bill and Charlie Weasley Bill is the anti-percy, literally just COOL Is Bill a wizard tomb raider? What exactly does Charlie do with dragons at his job? It is interesting that Bill is constantly described as cool and handsome and ends up with Fleur - the two hottest people together Shay has an important message: get out and support your women's hockey league! Potter Revisited Episode #64 Family Values AKA Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire, Chapter 4 "Back To The Burrow" Should Mr & Mrs Weasley (as the adults) confirmed with Harry on how they were picking him up? Dudley is walking around covering his bottom which is played as a gag but rereading feels more like a trauma response The poor planning of the Weasleys actually makes us side with the Dursley's for once Why did Arthur think it would be a good idea to bring Fred and George? We have a lot of issues with the "prank" Fred and George play on Dudley with the toffee - there are so may variables that could of ended badly The Twins are seen as goofy, fun and good kids so it is interesting to look at them through a less rose coloured lens The Dursley's obviously have a fear of magic and the Twins as well as Mr Weasley did not help matters Mr Weasley forcing the Dursley's to say goodbye to Harry or be seen as rude is great Shay compares the Weasley's to the Dursley's on their social values and priorities Tori has been waiting since chapter 1 to be at the Burrow and she has to wait another episode :( Snape Sucks total for Chapter 4: 0 Email any thoughts, questions or feedback to potterrevisitedpodcast@gmail.com Music: Shelter Song by Alexander Nakarada (www.serpentsoundstudios.com) Licensed under Creative Commons BY Attribution 4.0 License https://creativecommons.org/licenses/by/4.0/ Follow Us: Facebook https://www.facebook.com/potterrevisited Twitter https://twitter.com/potterevisited Instagram https://www.instagram.com/potterrevisited_/ Youtube https://www.youtube.com/channel/UC4v2Xt0OIQ8_LCVYhKf2S5A TikTok https://www.tiktok.com/@potterrevisited
Potter Revisited Episode #63 By The Way, This is a Harry Potter Book AKA Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire, Chapter 3 "The Invitation" The fatphobia around the Dursley's is very rampant - definitely other things to focus on Shay feels for the teachers that have to deal with parents like the Dursley's Dudley's diet feels very 90s/early 2000s diet culture Mrs Weasley sends the Dursley's a letter to invite Harry to stay with the Weasleys - something she is not accustom to but obviously went to the effort out of politeness - the Dursley's didn't really deserve such kindness Harry using Sirius to blackmail the Dursley's is great and something Sirius would be proud of This is the one summer Harry really has the upper hand on the Dursley's Harry is keeping food and more specifically birthday cake under a floorboard in his room - is that safe to eat? Tori would never but Shay would consider it Ron sends a letter telling Harry that they are getting him no matter what the Durlsey's say - can't miss the world cup! Ron's letter mentions that Percy got a job at the Ministry but doesn't seem to impressed by it - is this already showing more friction between Percy and his family? Ron has invited both Harry and Hermione to come to the world cup match - he is the only Weasley kid bringing friends. Is it realistic that none of the other Weasley siblings wouldn't have something to say about that? Shay feels it is too convenient for Arthur to get so many tickets no matter what Ludo Bagman says - and thinks it could of been something organized by Dumbledore Harry and Hermione could probably afford their own tickets as well Shay breaks down the cost of what the world cup tickets could cost Despite not being overly ambitious and climbing the corporate ladder, Arthur is obviously well respected in the Ministry We touch on Ludo not being great at his job and how being semi famous in the sports world is a relatable phenomenon The chapter ends with Harry in really high spirits, excited to see a real professional quidditch game with his friends, and this is probably the last time we see Harry so carefree Snape Sucks total for Chapter 3: 0 Email any thoughts, questions or feedback to potterrevisitedpodcast@gmail.com Music: Shelter Song by Alexander Nakarada (www.serpentsoundstudios.com) Licensed under Creative Commons BY Attribution 4.0 License https://creativecommons.org/licenses/by/4.0/ Follow Us: Facebook https://www.facebook.com/potterrevisited Twitter https://twitter.com/potterevisited Instagram https://www.instagram.com/potterrevisited_/ Youtube https://www.youtube.com/channel/UC4v2Xt0OIQ8_LCVYhKf2S5A TikTok https://www.tiktok.com/@potterrevisited
Potter Revisited Episode #62 By The Way, This is a Harry Potter Book AKA Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire, Chapter 2 "The Scar" We are back with Harry and the usual book recap chapter Why does GoF have a recap chapter? Does it really need it? Harry doesn't describe seeing the "dream" from Voldemort's perspective - is this a mistake? Tori learns the definition of Fortnight Harry imagining Ron and Hermione's reactions to his scar hurting is relatable Harry imagining Dumbledore on a beach somewhere is a great image Harry can't let Fred & George think of him as less than Harry sees Sirius as kind of a parental figure but isn't as vulnerable as one generally would be with a parent Harry seems to be more vulnerable with Lupin at this point than Sirius Sirius is still kind of mysterious in GoF - we don't really get much of Sirius' true character until OOTP Because this chapter is so short and gives us basically nothing, we discuss what we think the Profs get up to during the holidays Does McGonagall spend the summer as a cat? We are both so excited for this book and the darker tone the series takes from here We answer our first listener question - why do we think Harry is an idiot? Tori brings up some fun GoF facts, including a Weasley character that was eventually scrapped from the book Tori brings up a childhood memory of reading this book for a book report - and her mom not believing she could finish it in time This is one of the few chapters we get that is not through Harry's perspective and Shay loves it We get the life story of Muggle Frank Bryce as well as some backstory on the Riddle family Tori wonders how Voldemort is currently existing Wormtail is basically keeping Voldemort alive yet he is treated so poorly - it really shows how little self esteem Peter has that he just doesn't leave Voldemort mentions his faithful servant at Hogwarts - foreshadowing the next mystery for the readers to solve The tone in the first chapter already is a lot darker than the first three books We are introduced to Frank and then he is murdered - does this foreshadowing more deaths to come? Potter Revisited Episode #58 Daddy Issues AKA Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban, Chapter 21 "Hermione's Secret" Shay starts off the episode defending Snape has he gives his version of events to the Minister of Magic Snape lowkey throwing Dumbledore under the bus is the only thing Tori commends him for Interesting how Fudge talks about having a blindspot for Harry - as he stops once Harry isn't useful to him politically Snape: I treat Harry Potter like any other student Tori: LIAR. +1 Snape Sucks Madame Pomfrey deserves better Snape knows Dumbledore is about to scew him over again This is the first time Dumbledore can't fix something for Harry - but could Dumbledore have done something? Classic Dumbledore sending kids to go do his dirty work Time Travel does not make any sense in this book Again, the idea that Hermione was given a way to go back in time to do more schoolwork is crazy Tori feels like the way time travel is used in this book reads too much like a plot device Shay wonders if Dumbledore abuses Time Travel for personal use as he seems to know too much Harry thinks he saw his Dad and he could be alive A lot of this book as Harry really yearning for his dad / a father figure and it makes so much sense that his Patronus is his dad's animagus form Does the pacing of this chapter work? Shay talks about Snape's feelings at the end of the chapter and how Dumbledore screws him over Tori brings up how time travel was used in the cursed play we don't talk about Snape Sucks total for Chapter 21: 1 Email any thoughts, questions or feedback to potterrevisitedpodcast@gmail.com Fill our our Listener Survey here: https://forms.gle/QFEJNAEtQdzXLSBC7 Music: Shelter Song by Alexander Nakarada (www.serpentsoundstudios.com) Licensed under Creative Commons BY Attribution 4.0 License https://creativecommons.org/licenses/by/4.0/ Follow Us: Facebook https://www.facebook.com/potterrevisited Twitter https://twitter.com/potterevisited Instagram https://www.instagram.com/potterrevisited_/ Youtube https://www.youtube.com/channel/UC4v2Xt0OIQ8_LCVYhKf2S5A TikTok https://www.tiktok.com/@potterrevisited
Potter Revisited Episode #57 Pucker Up For Your Lobotomy AKA Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban, Chapter 20 "The Dementor's Kiss" The first thing Sirius does when getting out of the Shrieking Shack is asking Harry to live with him... and Harry is all for it despite only knowing him for a few hours and thinking he was a murderer for most of them How would Harry living with Sirius affect the series? Everyone forgets Lupin hasn't taken his potion The passage where Lupin is transforming into a werewolf is written in a cool way - showing how he loses his personality and humanity once he is the wolf Sirius tells Harry and Hermione to run but Ron is still chained to Pettigrew and Lupin Classic Hermione instinct is to go to the castle for help, but Harry runs after Sirius and a werewolf instead Harry's happy thought is living with Sirius and leaving the Dursley's - sad to think this never happens Does it make sense for Hermione not to have at least learned the patronus charm a little? The description of the Dementor's trying to suck Harry and Sirius' soul is very creepy Does the Dementor's trying to take Harry's soul show they are already outside of Ministry control? Are the dementor's drawn to Harry because of the misery of his past or because he has an extra soul? Shay brings up the issue she has with it being called the "Dementor's Kiss" what are some better alternatives? Just before Harry passes out - he thinks he sees his father. Tori discusses the old "James Survived" fan theory Shay dusts off her Psychology BA again to discuss the trauma Harry has with seeing Sirius having almost have his soul sucked out What would of happened if Sirius was cleared in PoA and how would it affect the series? Potter Revisited Episode #56 High school Reunion AKA Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban, Chapter 19 "The Servant of Lord Voldemort" Snape has a very dramatic reveal Having Snape, Lupin and Sirius Black all in one room is really a high school reunion Slight foreshadowing that Lupin hasn't taken his potion Snape has no chill this chapter - seeing Sirius and Lupin seems to make him lose control Snape literally threatens to kill Sirius on sight Interesting that it is Hermione who tries to reason with Snape despite him still being an authority figure to her Is the anger Snape has due to seeing his childhood enemies or is it seeing who he thinks to be the person who lead to Lily's death? Snape threatens to give Sirius over to the Dementors along with Lupin - what kind of crime has Lupin committed that would warrant the Dementor's Kiss? Snape only refers to Lupin as "wolf" or "werewolf" in this chapter - does this show his bigotry? +1 Snape Sucks for taking out his anger with Sirius/Lupin/James on Harry who is only caught in the middle of a strange situation Snape says that James was arrogant because his trust in Sirius - does this show Snape's emotional immaturity? Harry, Ron and Hermione all jinxing Snape at the same time is great Hearing Sirius describe his relationship with James and Lily and the impact of losing them really strikes a cord Sirius being able to communicate with Crookshanks is amazing - could being a Pet Whisperer be a job? The moment Harry confirms he believes Sirius is such a pivotal moment Peter is described as looking rat-like - is this due to living as a rat for years or did he always have those features? Do Animagi choose their forms, or are they based on their core personality traits? Ron's biggest concern - he shared a bed with a grown man???? Peter is a weak person with no morals - he grasps on to any straws to save his skin. It is disgusting the way he tries to use his relationship with James as a way to appeal to Harry Wormtail says James would of forgiven him - do we really believe that? Potter Revisited Episode #55 Lycanthropy? More like Likes-His-Therapy AKA Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban, Chapter 18 "Moony, Wormtail, Padfoot and Prongs" Thank goodness for Lupin - without him to help make the trio feel comfortable and explain the backstory it would of lead to a lot of issues and conflict It's a good thing Lupin didn't let Sirius kill "Scabbers" in front of Ron Lupin treating this conversation like they are in the classroom really helps Hermione remain calm Learning that Lupin was bite so young and had to learn responsibility as a young child is hard to hear - and explains why he was so easily swayed by his friends at school Did Dumbledore manipulate Lupin? Lupin feels immense guilt for not telling Dumbledore about Sirius and for what he got up to at school The "trick" Sirius plays on Snape - how could Lupin forgive him? Lupin thinks Snape was jealous of James - was he or was it deeper than that? Snape's dramatic entrance Why has no one helped Ron with his broken leg yet? Shay discusses how self reflective and grounded Lupin is - is he the most grounded character in the series? Does Dumbledore collect emotionally deprived people on purpose? Did Dumbledore let Sirius stay in jail because it would mess up his plans? Potter Revisited Episode #54 Accusatory Whiplash AKA Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban, Chapter 17 "Cat, Rat & Dog" This chapter has so much great buildup and reveals Is Buckbeak actually dead in this timeline? Ron pushing Harry out of the way of the giant dog - MVP move Is Ron pushing Harry out of the way his own will? Or is it the Horcrux in Harry causing him to protect him Ron's leg breaking is still hard to read Harry's reasoning to not go for help - "That thing is big enough to eat him!" Why don't the trio ever split up? Hermione could of gone for help while Harry went after Ron The Shrieking Shack reveal is great Was the tunnel to the Shrieking Shack made for Lupin like the Whomping Willow was planted, or was it already there and repurposed? The Sirius Black reveal - also amazing! Sirius doesn't do himself any favours being super vague Harry has a voice telling him to kill Black - is this his own inner voice or the Horcrux inside him? Ron's line "If you want to kill Harry, you'll have to kill us too!" is such a great Ron moment and it doesn't make sense why Hermione got it in the movie Does Harry even know how to kill someone with a wand? How did Crookshanks come to trust Sirius? Lupin comes in, but before we can truly feel relieved, it appears he is in league with Sirius - such a big betrayal The short conversation Lupin has with Sirius before they hug really shows how close they were before The emotions Lupin must have gone through thinking Sirius was bad all this time, and then learning that he was actually framed Lupin does a great job of deescalating the trio - without him Sirius would have been a goner Should the chapter have been split into two? The Sirius Black reveal is overshadowing pretty quickly by the other accusations and the Peter reveal Snape Sucks total for Chapter 16: 0 Email any thoughts, questions or feedback to potterrevisitedpodcast@gmail.com Fill our our Listener Survey here: https://forms.gle/QFEJNAEtQdzXLSBC7 Music: Shelter Song by Alexander Nakarada (www.serpentsoundstudios.com) Licensed under Creative Commons BY Attribution 4.0 License https://creativecommons.org/licenses/by/4.0/ Follow Us: Facebook https://www.facebook.com/potterrevisited Twitter https://twitter.com/potterevisited Instagram https://www.instagram.com/potterrevisited_/ Youtube https://www.youtube.com/channel/UC4v2Xt0OIQ8_LCVYhKf2S5A TikTok https://www.tiktok.com/@potterrevisited
Potter Revisited Episode #53 Unjustice of the Justice System AKA Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban, Chapter 16 "Professor Trelawney's Prediction" Harry's excitement of winning the Quidditch cup lasts until Exam Season hits What is with the Pumpkin Juice in the series? Writing two exams every day sounds exhausting and stressful The Ministry is coming to Hogwarts to do Buckbeak's appeal and they are bringing an executioner with them - The Trio are really getting a first hand look at how corrupt the Ministry is Draco was butthurt on losing against Harry in Quidditch but is now getting all excited about getting an innocent creature killed... We discuss all the exams the Trio have - is it weird that they need to partner with each other for examinations? Wouldn't that cause a lot of stress or issues if something goes wrong +1 Snape Sucks for Snape glowering at Harry while he is trying to complete is examination The best exam has to be Lupin's practical exam - which really puts what the kids have learned throughout the year into practice This exam really starts to show Harry's brilliance in DADA as he is apply to put what he learned into real world application, compared to Hermione who struggles under pressure Ron ready to fight the Minister of Magic over the appeal is great The Divination exam is done privately which we both agree is preferred for examinations Shay feels like Harry should of predicted his own death for top marks Harry makes up seeing Buckbeak and goes against Trelawney wanting blood, death and drama Harry predicts Buckbeak flying away... Harry a Seer Confirmed? Trelawney goes into a trance and predicts makes a prediction about Voldemort - do all Seers not remember the prophecies made? Does Sirius breaking out to go after Peter cause the prediction to come true? Should Harry have told Dumbledore about the prediction? Hagrid loss the appeal and Buckbeak is set to be executed, poor Hagrid Scabbers is found alive and hiding in a milk jug - why did he pick there of all places to hid? Despite everything going on Hagrid tries to be the responsible adult and tells the kids to leave before the execution takes place The Trio try and leave quickly but Scabbers is causing issues - can Peter sense that Sirius is nearby? The chapter ends with Buckbeak appearing to have been executed and the trios disbelief - really capturing the loss of innocence Snape Sucks total for Chapter 16: 1 Email any thoughts, questions or feedback to potterrevisitedpodcast@gmail.com Fill our our Listener Survey here: https://forms.gle/QFEJNAEtQdzXLSBC7 Music: Shelter Song by Alexander Nakarada (www.serpentsoundstudios.com) Licensed under Creative Commons BY Attribution 4.0 License https://creativecommons.org/licenses/by/4.0/ Follow Us: Facebook https://www.facebook.com/potterrevisited Twitter https://twitter.com/potterevisited Instagram https://www.instagram.com/potterrevisited_/ Youtube https://www.youtube.com/channel/UC4v2Xt0OIQ8_LCVYhKf2S5A TikTok https://www.tiktok.com/@potterrevisited
Potter Revisited Episode #52 Uncharacteristically A Badass AKA Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban, Chapter 15 "The Quidditch Final" Is Ron's willingness to help Hermione with the appeal after everything they've been through what makes her break? Shay finds the corruption involved in Buckbeak's case disgusting Draco knows he was in the wrong but not even ashamed about an animal dying and Hagrid being upset Hermione takes out all her frustration and slaps Draco in the face! Is learning how corrupt the justice system / Ministry of Magic is hard for Hermione to handle? We are in agreement that Hermione is unhinged sometimes Shay finds the dark side of Cheering Charms as they could be used to manipulate a person Hermione's starting to crack - forgetting to go to Charms The Divination lesson is different this time around since Hermione doesn't seem to care and joins in with Harry and Ron's jokes Trelawney tells Hermione to her face she is basically useless at this subject - we discuss how we would react if a teacher told us that Hermione makes a huge scene and storms out of the classroom - which Trelawney claims to have predicted in the first class The Quidditch final is approaching and the school has gone crazy Shay compares how the Quidditch playoffs are scored compared to the NHL Staney Cup and how weird it is Tori discuss the competitive energy around the school and if it is healthy, as well as causing more house divides Does Dumbledore love the drama of it all? The gameplay in this chapter is great, as well as Lee's commentary Snape actually wore a colour to the match - he is just as invested as McGonagall There are a lot of dirty moves and fouls in this match Gryffindor wins the cup and Oliver Wood has achieved his life goal We compare Hermione slapping Malfoy in the book to Hermione punching Malfoy in the film and what works better Snape Sucks total for Chapter 15: 0 Email any thoughts, questions or feedback to potterrevisitedpodcast@gmail.com Fill our our Listener Survey here: https://forms.gle/QFEJNAEtQdzXLSBC7 Music: Shelter Song by Alexander Nakarada (www.serpentsoundstudios.com) Licensed under Creative Commons BY Attribution 4.0 License https://creativecommons.org/licenses/by/4.0/ Follow Us: Facebook https://www.facebook.com/potterrevisited Twitter https://twitter.com/potterevisited Instagram https://www.instagram.com/potterrevisited_/ Youtube https://www.youtube.com/channel/UC4v2Xt0OIQ8_LCVYhKf2S5A TikTok https://www.tiktok.com/@potterrevisited
Potter Revisited Episode #51 Snape's Grudge AKA Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban, Chapter 14 "Snape's Grudge" They are finally tightening security - why wasn't this done the first time Sirius Black broke in? Ron has become an instant celebrity for almost being murdered - a Hogwarts thing? Neville's punishment is very harsh - is it really all his fault? Hagrid is acting like a responsible adult Is Hagrid a hypocrite asking Ron to forgive Hermione? Ron convinces Harry to sneak into Hogsmede for the next weekend despite Ron's near death experience and Harry being the prime target - do they ever think? Shay finds Hermione unlikable for threatening to tell on Harry and Ron on their Hogsmede Plan - but is it just Hermione's character? Hermione's less likeable traits are really ignored in the films - especially PoA When Harry goes to sneak into Hogsmede, Snape finds him - does he suspect the entrance? The Malfoy / Harry mud fight is so fun and amusing Despite Harry's mad dash back to the castle, he is caught by Snape and is so very obviously guilty Shay finds Snape's dialogue so funny Harry is obviously guilty and in trouble but Snape brings up James Potter for no reason and uses him against Harry +1 Snape Sucks Shay has a lot of sympathy for Snape and how he is undercover and working to save Harry's life while Harry is out putting himself in danger Tori has very little if any sympathy for Snape Snape is telling Harry a very different version to his father than he has been told - which opens up the idea to Harry that his parents not might be what he imagined them Snape finds the Marauders Map and when trying to work it, it insults him. What insult do you think is best? Both Tori and Shay discuss what Lupin's internal reaction would be to seeing Harry with the Marauders Map Shay thinks Lupin is regretting the choices he made as a Marauder. Lupin's past is really coming to get him Lupin tells Harry and Ron off for going out, bringing up Harry's parents - is he manipulating Harry? Is Lupin projecting his feelings about not telling Dumbledore about Sirius or the map and taking it out on Harry? Hermione comes in at the end to rain on the already terrible parade that Hagrid lost his case Snape Sucks total for Chapter 14: 1 Email any thoughts, questions or feedback to potterrevisitedpodcast@gmail.com Fill our our Listener Survey here: https://forms.gle/QFEJNAEtQdzXLSBC7 Music: Shelter Song by Alexander Nakarada (www.serpentsoundstudios.com) Licensed under Creative Commons BY Attribution 4.0 License https://creativecommons.org/licenses/by/4.0/ Follow Us: Facebook https://www.facebook.com/potterrevisited Twitter https://twitter.com/potterevisited Instagram https://www.instagram.com/potterrevisited_/ Youtube https://www.youtube.com/channel/UC4v2Xt0OIQ8_LCVYhKf2S5A TikTok https://www.tiktok.com/@potterrevisited
Potter Revisited Episode #50 Wizard Lobotomy AKA Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban, Chapter 13 "Gryffindor VS Ravenclaw" We made it to 50 episodes! Thank you for listening! Shay just got back from a trip to Salem - definitely recommends Ron and Hermione falling out - Ron seems to just want Hermione to admit she was wrong, which she won't. Why does she double down on Crookshanks being innocent? Does Hermione using the Timeturner and school load affect how she handles this falling out? Ron takes the loss of Scabbers really hard Everyone is very excited Harry has his Firebolt back Shay has an issue with a certain phrase used We get our first introduction to Cho Chang - Ravenclaw Seeker and Harry's first crush Harry having the firebolt - which seems to outrank everyone's brooms - doesn't seem fair for the rest of the students and teams Harry and his Squad take the Firebolt down to breakfast the day of the game like it is a special artifact Even Percy is excited about the Firebolt and makes a bet with his girlfriend on the game We have missed Lee Jordan's commentary, it definitely makes reading the Quidditch heavy chapters easier for those not interested in sports Shay wonders why a lot of Lee's commentary was excluded from the films Harry sees what appears to be a Dementor by the pitch and shoots a Patronus at it - it ends up being Malfoy and Friends but it's very impressive for Harry to do this while still focusing on the game Shay feels like Malfoy should have gotten a worse punishment We wonder how Madame Hooch keeps track of all components of the game plus the fouls etc Harry tries to make up with Hermione a bit and have her join the part but Hermione is almost hysterical - is the stress of everything starting to get to her? Ron can be quite vindictive when he's upset Harry has an interesting dream about trying to reach a patronus-like figure that is galloping away. Is this a sign from his father something similar? Ron wakes up the dorm screaming that Sirius Black broke in trying to kill him - why did Dumbledore not have better security in place after the Halloween break-in? Poor Neville got in so much trouble when it wasn't really completely on him - he was only trying to be proactive We dive into a deeper discussion about brooms as equipment in Quidditch and if Harry having the firebolt is really fair to the rest of the students Snape Sucks total for Chapter 13: 0 Email any thoughts, questions or feedback to potterrevisitedpodcast@gmail.com Fill our our Listener Survey here: https://forms.gle/QFEJNAEtQdzXLSBC7 Music: Shelter Song by Alexander Nakarada (www.serpentsoundstudios.com) Licensed under Creative Commons BY Attribution 4.0 License https://creativecommons.org/licenses/by/4.0/ Follow Us: Facebook https://www.facebook.com/potterrevisited Twitter https://twitter.com/potterevisited Instagram https://www.instagram.com/potterrevisited_/ Youtube https://www.youtube.com/channel/UC4v2Xt0OIQ8_LCVYhKf2S5A TikTok https://www.tiktok.com/@potterrevisited
Potter Revisited Episode #49 Wizard Lobotomy AKA Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban, Chapter 12 "The Patronus" We discuss the fallout Hermione has with Harry and Ron over the Firebolt Wood was fully ready to kick Harry off the Quidditch team if he didn't have his Dementor stuff figured out Oliver barely reacts to Harry telling him Sirius Black is after him, but does react to knowing Harry got a Firebolt With Hermione not having Harry and Ron to talk to, she is really retreating into herself and doesn't seem to be doing well Lupin describes Patronus' to Harry as guardians, and Harry thinks of Hagrid The struggle Harry has of wanting to overcome the dementors but also wanting to hear his parents voices is heartbreaking These Patronus lessons must also be tough for Lupin has Harry is confiding in him on hearing his parents voices Harry has a very emotional reaction to hearing his dad's voice for the first time Lupin reveals that he knew James and they were friends, but Harry chooses to ask him about Sirius Black instead Hermione is looking tired and worn out, always in the back of the common room studying and despite being angry with her, Ron is concerned Harry is too petty to get the same broom as Malfoy Is it weird for Lupin to have a Butterbeer with Harry? Lupin explains what the Dementor's Kiss is, and we discuss out reactions from reading as children compared to now Shay compares the Dementor's Kiss to a Lobotomy Harry thinks Sirius Black deserves this punishment, but Lupin has more empathy for human life Neville wrote down all the portrait passwords and lost the list - Shay is astounded Should they have had better security after the almost break-in? Harry gets his broom back from McGonagall and decides to make up with Hermione How many hours a day is Hermione dedicating to school vs sleep? Ron discovers blood on his sheets, no Scabbers and cat hair in his room and accuses Crookshanks of killing Scabbers leading into the next falling out with Hermione Snape Sucks total for Chapter 11: 0 Email any thoughts, questions or feedback to potterrevisitedpodcast@gmail.com Fill our our Listener Survey here: https://forms.gle/QFEJNAEtQdzXLSBC7 Music: Shelter Song by Alexander Nakarada (www.serpentsoundstudios.com) Licensed under Creative Commons BY Attribution 4.0 License https://creativecommons.org/licenses/by/4.0/ Follow Us: Facebook https://www.facebook.com/potterrevisited Twitter https://twitter.com/potterevisited Instagram https://www.instagram.com/potterrevisited_/ Youtube https://www.youtube.com/channel/UC4v2Xt0OIQ8_LCVYhKf2S5A TikTok https://www.tiktok.com/@potterrevisited
Potter Revisited Episode #48 The Right Thing The Wrong Way AKA Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban, Chapter 11 "The Firebolt" Harry is dealing with the revelation from last chapter, learning that Sirius Black was friends with his parents, is his godfather, and betrayed his parents to Voldemort Harry is having strong feelings of anger and vengeance - the first time we really see him like this Harry imagines Peter Pettigrew to be like Neville - interesting comparison since many see Neville as what Peter could have been Shay compared the rest of the trio to the Marauders Ron and Hermione are doing their best to help Harry but they are just kids - Harry should really have a trusted adult to confide in Ron vocalizing Harry's thoughts of killing Sirius Black is poignant Ron shares all that was found of Pettigrew was a finger - foreshadowing for later Ron and Hermione are working together to distract Harry and suggest visiting Hagrid - who Harry wants to confront for not telling him the truth about Sirius Black Buckbeak is going to be brought up to the Dept of Dangerous Creatures and may be executed - despite Hagrid being the adult, the trio are the ones taking care of him Hagrid opening up about his time in Azkaban makes it feel more real - and awful Is it just for criminals to be imprisoned and also made depressed? The Trio spend the Christmas break researching stuff to help Hagrid's case which is so great of them, and also keeps Harry distracted Christmas morning, Harry gets another surprise gift - the Firebolt Ron theorizes first that Dumbledore could have sent it to him, then Lupin - foreshadowing there is more to the Lupin/Harry relationship Hermione enters the Dorm with Crookshanks - why did she do that when she had ensured Ron that Crookshanks would be kept in her dorm? Crookshanks chases Scabbers and Harry's Sneak-o-Scope goes off - further foreshadowing? Scabbers is not looking well according to Harry - Peter definitly knows that Sirius is close on his tail We discuss what living in a animagas form for years would do to you as a person Hermione is the only one questioning why Harry was sent this expensive brookstick, where Ron and Harry don't seem too concerned Snape gets a Vulture topped hat in his cracker - did Dumbledore do that on purpose? Trelawney refuses to join the table originally since she would make 13, and the first to rise would be the first to die Tori points out that Harry and Ron stand up first, and both had near death or actual death experiences Shay points out Scabbers was in Ron's pocket the whole time, to technically Dumbledore stands up first, and does die in HBP We discuss the falling out with Hermione after she tells Professor McGonagall about the mystery broomstick and confiscates it Shay believes it was a bad move and Hermione should have discussed it with Harry and Ron, while Tori believes Hermione is taking the Sirius Black stuff more seriously than Harry and Ron and acted in their best interests Did Ron side with Harry because of the broomstick issue or because of his ongoing pet issue with Hermione? Was Harry more angry with Hermione because he lost the broomstick, or because he saw it as a betrayal - the thoughts of Sirius Black and his day still weighing on him? We discuss the friendship issues that happen in this book, and how it shows the trio growing up We also discuss Harry's friendship with Hermione and how it differs between the one he has with Ron Snape Sucks total for Chapter 11: 0 Email any thoughts, questions or feedback to potterrevisitedpodcast@gmail.com Fill our our Listener Survey here: https://forms.gle/QFEJNAEtQdzXLSBC7 Music: Shelter Song by Alexander Nakarada (www.serpentsoundstudios.com) Licensed under Creative Commons BY Attribution 4.0 License https://creativecommons.org/licenses/by/4.0/ Follow Us: Facebook https://www.facebook.com/potterrevisited Twitter https://twitter.com/potterevisited Instagram https://www.instagram.com/potterrevisited_/ Youtube https://www.youtube.com/channel/UC4v2Xt0OIQ8_LCVYhKf2S5A TikTok https://www.tiktok.com/@potterrevisited
Potter Revisited Episode #47 Let The Mischief Begin AKA Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban, Chapter 10 "The Marauder's Map" Harry is struggling with the loss of his broom Ginny keeps up the musical theme and gives Harry a singing get well card Did the team force Wood to talk to Harry? The realization Harry has about knowing he is hearing his parents last words when the Dementors are near him is chilling Ron refuses to go to DADA is Snape is still the sub How long is 2 rolls of parchment compared to a typed essay? Lots of Lupin foreshadowing this chapter Lupin gives more details on Dementors and Azkaban Lupin has two very physical reactions when Harry brings up his parents and Sirius Black Why didn't Lupin tell Harry then that he knew his parents and they were friends at school? Harry only wants to fight the Dementors so he won't lose another Quidditch game... this school Ron and Hermione both stay at Hogwarts with Harry - is this the beginning of Hermione pulling away from her Parents and the Muggle world? The Twins give Harry the Marauders Map - how did Filch get it in the first place? The Map is a very cool piece of magic How did the Twins learn to work the Map? Did the Marauder's help him? Did Fred and George ever find out that Lupin and Sirius helped create the Map? We get a small introduction to hogsmede when Harry sneaks in Is Butterbeer alcoholic? The one time Harry sneaks out, the professors with the Minister of Magic walk in and sit near him We love the Professor's cocktail choices - what would you order? Why do they start telling Rosmerta the Sirius Black backstory in the middle of the pub? Based on the alleged backstory, Peter was very underestimated by everyone Harry has just overheard this huge bomb about Sirius Black and his parents - how is he able to process this huge betrayal? Potter Revisited Episode #46 Safety Second, Quidditch First AKA Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban, Chapter 9 "Grim Defeat" This chapter really shows how much Hogwarts values students safety The students are having a slumber party in the Great Hall which Shay loves Percy gets a little bit of authority and ruins everyones fun Ron and Hermione mention what a coincidence it is that Sirius broke in on Halloween when they weren't in the common room - potential foreshadowing? The beginning of Hermione being the only one to read Hogwarts: A History Apparently Flitch can restore paintings and portraits Harry eavesdrops on Dumbledore and Snape - Snape is trying to bring up his theory that Lupin is helping Sirius Is Dumbledore too trusting? Tori and Shay discuss Sir Cadogan is the new portrait for Gryffindor Tower which is chaotic Lots of students have different theories on how Sirius broke in - Hannah's about the shrub is probably the closest Harry notices teachers are paying more attention to him after the break in - even Percy is checking in Did Percy know why he was checking in on Harry? McGonagall is the only true adult in this series, checking in on Harry and letting him know what is actually happening Is so fun seeing McGonagall throw common sense away for a Quidditch win We get our first reference to Cedric Diggory - Fred and George seem jealous of the attention he gets Even if real Quidditch games play during all types of weather and events, shouldn't a school inter-house league be treated differently? Where are the safety precautions for students? Is magic able to control the weather at all? Snape is covering Lupin for DADA - let the games begin Is Snape trying to imply that Lupin isn't really ill? Did he only cover Lupin's class to insult Lupin to the students? Supply Teachers going against the current curriculum set by the teacher is so stressful Shay loves how snarky Snape is, and brings up the point it is probably good to have students learning about Werewolves if one is going to be at the school +1 Snape Sucks for insulting Hermione in front of the entire class We discuss Ron defending Hermione VS how it is changed in the film Snape sets an essay on how to recognize Werewolves and Kill them - is he wanting to kill Lupin? Do wizards actually kill Werewolves? Lots of foreshadowing to Lupin and Snape's past Crookshanks tries to sneak into the Boys' dorm when Harry is leaving for Quidditch - why isn't Hermione keeping a better eye on him? It is storming so bad during the Quidditch game Harry can't see through his glasses - Hermione comes eventually with a charm to repel the rain - why didn't Oliver or any of the older students know to do this? When the dementors storm the field, Harry hears his mother begging for his life which is so heartbreaking This whole episode with Harry is crazy as all his friend and team thought he had died - yet all he asks when he wakes up is who won the match We get a little bit of Cedric's character as he was trying to call for a rematch when he saw Harry had fallen off his broom due to the Dementors Harry gets double bad news when finding out his broom had been destroyed by the Whomping Willow - RIP Nimbus 2000 The broom was obviously sentimental to Harry but why does he wait so long to order a new broom? How much do brooms actually cost in Muggle currency? Potter Revisited Episode #45 Teatime With Lupin AKA Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban, Chapter 8 "The Flight of the Fat Lady" Everyone loves Lupin and DADA and we do too! Lupin seems like a great teacher Of Course the only ones that don't like Lupin are Malfoy & Co - is it only because he is obviously poor? Snape, meanwhile is still taking out his feelings about Lupin on the students, especially Neville - +1 Snape Sucks Shay thinks she would be like Parvarti and Lavender and visiting Trelawney at Lunch Harry really doesn't like Divination this early on - why doesn't he drop it and take something else? Oliver gives a Rudy-style pep talk to the team - it's his last chance to win the Quidditch cup before he graduates Ron mentions Scabbers is in his bag, and then Crookshanks attacks - the whole chance scene is very amusing to picture Is Ron more mad at Hermione because of Crookshanks or that she won't take him seriously? Is Hermione a good pet owner? Why isn't she controlling Crookshanks more? The Trio see Lavender crying before class - she just got news her bunny died. She believes the prediction Trelawney made is real since it's the 16th of October Hermione tries to disprove the prediction could be real with logic, ignoring the fact that Lavender's pet is dead - why does Hermione always do this? Shay points out this could be the beginning of Lavender's crush on Ron, as he tells off Hermione in front of her. Tori, a Ron/Hermione shipper, isn't sure Ron convinces Harry to ask McGonagall for permission to go to Hogsmede - and she obviously says no since it's against the rules Dean had offered to forge Vernon's signature - why didn't Harry do this before going to McGonagall? Tori tells a story about the time she forged her Mom's signature in Grade 4 to avoid missing recess Shay wonders if they keep the parents signature on file and would be able to detect a forgery by magic Harry is missing out on Hogsmede and we feel bad - Percy does a terrible job at trying to cheer him up Lupin sees Harry walking around alone & invites him in for tea - we would love to have tea with Lupin! Harry figures out why Lupin stopped him from confronting the Dementor - he thought it would be Voldemort Snape comes to bring Lupin a potion - we discuss him seeing Lupin and Harry together in the office and imagining Lupin and James Shay discusses the way Lupin speaks about Snape to Harry, which is very complimentary. Harry trying to convince Lupin that Snape is bad and likely poisoned the potion is funny, considering Lupin and Snape grew up together at school How Ron and Hermione describe Hogsmede to Harry very much shows their interest - The first thing Hermione brings up is the post office and how it is organized by a colour coded system, and Ron brings up Honeydukes and all the sweets This is our first time fully seeing a Hogwarts Halloween feast as events have always prevented it - The Ghosts provide entertainment with Synchronized gliding and Nick reenacts his death - were Ghosts always the entertainment or is this new? We discuss the twist ending - The Fat Lady has fled her frame, which has been slashed up. Sirius Black tried to break into Gryffindor tower How did Dumbledore appear on the scene so fast? Shay wonders why Lupin didn't do anything - didn't say anything to Dumbledore regarding Sirius It's interesting how Peeves speaks to Dumbledore compared to other professors Snape Sucks total for Chapter 8: 1 Email any thoughts, questions or feedback to potterrevisitedpodcast@gmail.com Fill our our Listener Survey here: https://forms.gle/QFEJNAEtQdzXLSBC7 Music: Shelter Song by Alexander Nakarada (www.serpentsoundstudios.com) Licensed under Creative Commons BY Attribution 4.0 License https://creativecommons.org/licenses/by/4.0/ Follow Us: Facebook https://www.facebook.com/potterrevisited Twitter https://twitter.com/potterevisited Instagram https://www.instagram.com/potterrevisited_/ Youtube https://www.youtube.com/channel/UC4v2Xt0OIQ8_LCVYhKf2S5A TikTok https://www.tiktok.com/@potterrevisited
Potter Revisited Episode #44 Feelings Matter AKA Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban, Chapter 7 "The Boggart in the Wardrobe" Even Shay, a Snape fan, can admit he is a dick in this chapter. Lots of Snape Sucks points coming! Malfoy is obviously faking being injured - would this concern Madame Pomfrey? Does Snape let Malfoy get away with more than any other student because of Lucius being a Death Eater and wanting to keep and eye on the inner circle for Dumbledore, or does he see parts of himself in Malfoy, and looking to give him the chances he didn't have Tori feels like Snape really starts acting out - specifically in this chapter- because Lupin is now at Hogwarts and it has thrown him off Draco sits with Harry & Ron in Potions just to bother them about Hagrid - Ron threatens to give him a real injury + Snape Sucks for mistreating Harry and Ron despite Draco egging them on We both feel so bad for Neville, everyone can probably relate to having a class you dread because of the teacher +1 Snape Sucks for Snape bullying Neville to the point of tears + Snape Sucks for Snape wanting to poison Trevor in front of the whole class Draco finds out Harry don't know how he is connected to Sirius black and lords it over him - Is Malfoy trying to get Harry to go after Black and get killed? Shay finds Malfoy to be almost a caricature of a classic bully - at least in the early series +1 Snape Sucks for punishing Hermione for helping Neville save Trevor Some foreshadowing to Hermione's time travel as she was with Harry and Ron up the staircase and then suddenly was at the bottom Do Harry and Ron not really focus on Hermione obviously having a secret because they don't think she would be doing anything cool or breaking the rules? The students get their first practical lesson for DADA with Lupin - shouldn't they have had one before? Lupin and the students run into Peeves - who treats Lupin a lot different from the other Professors - could this be because he was a Marauder? +1 Snape Sucks for Snape insulting Neville in front of Lupin and the entire class Is Snape projecting his feelings about Lupin being at Hogwarts and targeting Neville instead? Lupin handles Snape very well by not engaging, and instead lifting Neville up Lupin is such a Troll, he comes off very professional speaking to Snape but then encourages Neville to make Boggart Snape wear his Gran's clothes Harry comes off quite mature when thinking of his greatest fear - he has two mass murderers after him but rather goes for what most recently has scared him Shay wonders why most of the students boggarts were generic Halloween type monsters, and not something like disappointed parents, failure, etc Is Neville's Boggart being Snape more showing is fear of incompetence rather than actual fear of Snape? Did Lupin make any preparations for students having some deeper trauma (like he sort of did for Harry?) Lupin stops Harry from battling the Boggart - we see his Boggart takes the shape of an "orb" or something similar **foreshadowing** Harry is very upset that Lupin didn't let him fight the Boggart despite it being pretty obvious why - why is Harry so concerned about how Lupin views him? Why would Hermione's Boggart taken the shape of? We discuss Hermione's fears being failure and not belonging Do Boggarts have any kind of attack or cause any injury? Or is it only psychological damage? Potter Revisited Episode #43 Doom and Gloom AKA Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban, Chapter 6 "Talons and Tea Leaves" We are starting off the school term in this chapter and it is an eventful first day back We love the idea of Malfoy running into Fred and George's compartment on the train, scared of the Dementor Ron notices Hermione has 3 classes all at the same time, but she is able to brush him off in her Hermione way We theorize how Hermione uses the timeturner to get to classes - she seems to have 3 classes at the same time in the morning Would using the Timeturner so much age Hermione? Would it shorten her lifespan? Sir Cadogan is a delight Harry hates Divination but Tori and Shay disagree We are introduced to Trelawney and she is a very dramatic character - she is only "predicting" bad news Shay breaks down the predictions Trelawney makes in this first class and if they could be real Ron's teacup predicts suffering but also happiness - we discuss Ron's future throughout the series Hermione talks down to a professor and is very dismissive and openly disdainful for the first time - Is this her disbelief in Divination as a subject or because she's on her 3rd time going back in time for class and is tired and hungry? Why is Harry so worried about his cup having a death omen? He has had Voldemort trying to kill him every year and now Sirius Black McGonagall is the MVP and defuses the tension like the pro she is McGonagall says Trelawney "predicts" a student will die every year - we discuss who we think could have been the student before Harry Hermione obviously isn't happy with Divination after the first lesson - why didn't she drop it then? Hagrid is teaching his first ever class and although Hagrid is very knowledgeable and excited by the subject... he isn't that great at supervising students or teaching Allowing Harry to fly Buckbeak was probably a bit much for a lesson... Hagrid is supposed to be a teacher in charge but is relying a lot on Harry, Ron and Hermione throughout the lesson and making sure everyone is enjoying themselves rather than providing any real lesson It's interesting that Hermione is able to separate her feelings for her friend, Hagrid, and know he isn't a great teacher where as Harry and Ron see Hagrid as all or nothing and it's a betrayal to his character to think otherwise Again, as the trio visit Hagrid later on he is a bit drunk and confiding in them as a friend rather than any kind of adult or authority figure (until he is able to sober up at Hermione's interference) Looking forward to some great Lupin and Snape content next chapter! Potter Revisited Episode #42 Harry's First Kiss... Almost AKA Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban, Chapter 5 "The Dementor" Tori is back from her Taylor Swift concert in Tampa and Shay is (a) mad (woman) Mrs Weasley is telling Ginny and Hermione about the time she made a love potion as a young girl... we discuss our distaste for love potions and how they are so casually described in this series Mr Weasley is obviously acting as Harry's guard but it doesn't seem to be as annoying to Harry since Mr Weasley treats Harry like one of his own It's nice seeing Harry and Ginny having a normal moment together - laughing over how Percy is acting with his girlfriend- without Ginny being super embarrassed or shy Harry's casual reaction to Mr Weasley telling him that Sirius Black has escaped to kill him is fun but also sad seeing as it's Harry's normal at this point Why did no one think to tell Harry about his parents relationship with Sirius Black? Obviously it would of come out or he would of been able to find out on his own at some point - wouldn't of it have been better to here the truth (or what was thought the truth) from someone rather than gossip or rumours? Tori feels bad for Ginny being told to leave by Ron - How must Ginny be feeling coming back to school after her first year? The Trios train compartment has an extra guest - Remus Lupin. Why did he decide to ride the train? Was it for nostalgia or something else? Is Lupin really sleeping the whole time? Shay confirms the full moon was one day away when they were on the train The Sneakoscope Ron got Harry starts going off when in the train - is this foreshadowing to Scabbers being Peter Pettigrew or something else? You can't help feel bad for Harry when Ron and Hermione are talking about Hogsmede - why did they assume he'd be able to go? Tori fully understands Hermione's love for Crookshanks being a cat mom herself but Hermione isn't really being a responsibly pet owner by not taking Ron's concerns seriously Shay brings up the point that maybe 13 is too young to be a solo pet owner Why does Malfoy start every year antagonizing Harry on the train? What kind of validation does he get from it? Ron is very enraged by Malfoy - more so than previous books. Is this just due to his age, or could it be from what the Malfoy's put Ginny through last year? It seems very negligent of the Ministry to allow the Dementors to do whatever they want - they boarded the train full of young students and few staff who had no idea what was going on Shay agrees the train probably should have been search before they boarded or left the station but not by dementors When the Dementor comes into Harry's compartment he has a very bad reaction and ends up passing out - what would of happened if Lupin was not with him? From what Ron and Hermione tell him afterwords, Lupin had to force the Dementor to leave It is pretty sweet that Ginny comes looking for Ron when she's scared by what is going on - we discuss her relationship with the Twins and Percy and why Ron is the best choice Ginny also had a bad reaction to the Dementor - we discuss what reliving that trauma must of been like What must it been like for Lupin to see Harry after so long, especially as he looks so much like James? Harry seems surprised that Lupin knew who he was - is this foreshadowing that Lupin is going to be more than a DADA teacher? Some foreshadowing to the Thestrals as Harry describes the school carriages being pulled by "invisible horses" We both empathize with Harry being embarrassed about fainting - both of us have fainted in public situations including the same building we used to work Harry's reaction to McGonagall and Madam Pomfrey showing concern over him is very relatable - he is more worried by what others will think than his health Lupin has Pomfrey's seal of approval - we wonder if they have a close bond due to how much time Lupin would have spent in the hospital wing while at school We know that this meeting with McGonagall is where Hermione receives her timeturner and it just feels so negligent that this would need to be approved by so many people and no one seemed to be looking out for Hermione and her mental wellbeing It would have been more beneficial to Hermione to learn how to prioritize and pick the classes she really wanted to take Tori wonders if Hermione is the first one to use a Time Turner for classes, and Shay theorizes that Bill and Percy must have had to as well to get the number of OWLs they did Lupin is announced as DADA teacher and Snape is not happy Shay feels for Snape has it has to suck having your childhood bully get the job you have always wanted and also moving into your home Dumbledore really caused all this trouble with Snape and Lupin - Snape was just holding in all this resentment it's no wonder it bursts at the end of the book Why does it seem like Dumbledore is putting Snape through all these weird tests, just seeing how far he can push him? Hagrid is made CoMC Teacher - is he actually qualified? What makes a teacher qualified to teach? Dumbledore only really has staff that have a purpose for him (or Harry) so was Hagrid promoted because of how loyal he is? We discuss Dementors and the concept of having them at a school full of vulnerable children Email any thoughts, questions or feedback to potterrevisitedpodcast@gmail.com Fill our our Listener Survey here: https://forms.gle/QFEJNAEtQdzXLSBC7 Music: Shelter Song by Alexander Nakarada (www.serpentsoundstudios.com) Licensed under Creative Commons BY Attribution 4.0 License https://creativecommons.org/licenses/by/4.0/ Follow Us: Facebook https://www.facebook.com/potterrevisited Twitter https://twitter.com/potterevisited Instagram https://www.instagram.com/potterrevisited_/ Youtube https://www.youtube.com/channel/UC4v2Xt0OIQ8_LCVYhKf2S5A TikTok https://www.tiktok.com/@potterrevisited
Potter Revisited Episode #41 Prioritize Not Dying AKA Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban, Chapter 4 "The Leaky Cauldron" For the first time Harry is on his own, and able to do whatever he wants, when he wants - is this wise for a 13 year old? Shay wonders what a Hag is - is it rude word or something else? Shay loves that Florean Fortescue is helping Harry with his Homework Tori dives into the backstory and lost plot arch of Florean in the HP Series Florean was abducted in HBP and was supposed to be rescued by the trio in DH, and he was supposed to provide clues for Harry on the Deathly Hallows - particularly the Elder Wand and also on Ravenclaw's Diadem It was cut from DH as it didn't work for the story Is a sundae every half hour too much? It is so fortunate that Harry is financially responsible at 13 - why didn't he have any kind of trust or advisor set up? Lots of foreshadowing with the Firebolt We love everyone being scared of Neville's Gran A book on Death Omens also catching Harry's eye - foreshadowing of his "death"? We are reunited with the Weasley's and Hermione Hermione opts to stay at the Leaky Cauldron with everyone rather than spend her last day with her parents - we discuss Hermione pulling away from her family as the books progress Should the Witch at the Magical Menagerie been able to tell that Scabbers was actually an Animagus? How did Crookshanks know that Scabbers was bad? Did Hermione subconsciously adopt Crookshanks due to her feelings for Ron? Ron wants to catch Sirius Black to earn reward money - is how the Weasley Children view money healthy? Is Percy's relationship with The Twins starting to fracture? Everyone laughing at Percy at the dinner table except him and Mrs Weasley hits different Harry doesn't really care that supposed murderer Sirius Black is after him - he just wants to go to Hogsmede Shay discusses how the books very much coincide with the age Harry is We discuss the news of WB working to option an HP TV Show and our thoughts at this potential new HP content Email any thoughts, questions or feedback to potterrevisitedpodcast@gmail.com Fill our our Listener Survey here: https://forms.gle/QFEJNAEtQdzXLSBC7 Music: Shelter Song by Alexander Nakarada (www.serpentsoundstudios.com) Licensed under Creative Commons BY Attribution 4.0 License https://creativecommons.org/licenses/by/4.0/ Links: Florean Fortescue https://harrypotter.fandom.com/wiki/Florean_Fortescue HP TV Show https://deadline.com/2023/04/harry-potter-tv-series-hbo-max-jk-rowling-produce-1235317141/ Follow Us: Facebook https://www.facebook.com/potterrevisited Twitter https://twitter.com/potterevisited Instagram https://www.instagram.com/potterrevisited_/ Youtube https://www.youtube.com/channel/UC4v2Xt0OIQ8_LCVYhKf2S5A TikTok https://www.tiktok.com/@potterrevisited
