We're taking a trip back in time this episode to do a deep dive on the classic fairy tale retelling, Ever After: A Cinderella Story. We consider what makes something a Cinderella story and how Ever After maps onto those criteria; our reactions to the main romance; and the tour de force performance that is Angelica Huston as the Baroness Rodmilla de Ghent. Watch the best scene reading: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oiEeUQ6nzx4 Get to know the writer: What is your screenplay about? Shesafella, a modern twist on Cinderella, is about a kind-hearted teen forced into servitude by a ruthless stepmother and closeted stepbrothers, who defies the odds with help from her butch fairy godmother. At a Ball, she wins Princess's heart but vanishes, leaving behind a single Doc Martens shoe. Princess's Instagram posts spark a citywide search, and Shesafella must outsmart her family, reclaim her true self, and fight for her happily ever after. What genres does your screenplay fall under? Fantasy, romance, fairy tale, LGBTQ Why should this screenplay be made into a movie? Cinderella movies (Ever After, Ella Enchanted, A Cinderella Story) are beloved for their timeless themes: rags to riches, kindness over cruelty, and finding one's voice. But they've all followed the same blueprint—a girl meeting a boy. Shesafella flips the script. It's a girl meeting a girl, in a joyful, queer reimagining that feels both long overdue and perfectly timed. This is the inclusive fairy tale audiences have been waiting for. AJ's about to be the youngest person in his department at Unnamed College to something something no one cares, and Joey's going back to Boston to be his date for a night of listening to him read his writing and then do some ballroom dancing. Pacey warns her not to get too caught up in the fantasy, tamping down her excitement before she's even gotten on the train. It's just as well, since AJ's so caught up in prep for the event that he sends his lifelong best friend Morgan -- a GIRL Morgan -- to retrieve Joey and unintentionally show off all the history AJ and Morgan share. (She even knows his actual first name!) Pacey has his own annoying boy to deal with: Buzz (Jonathan Lipnicki!), his new mentee. Making Buzz help with boat refurbishment leads to a conversation about whom the True Love was named for and whether Pacey has even kissed her yet -- something that seems to strike a resonant chord in Pacey, such that by the end of the episode, everything's changed. Way off in a whole other part of town, Dawson is still helping Gale set up her new and as-yet unnamed restaurant, though it doesn't take long for him to make her wish he had anything else to do. What a difference two months can make. Since President Donald Trump took office, Rep. Harriet Hageman says she has seen “a lot of hope” among Americans. “We are in the middle of our Renaissance, and when I'm home, I feel that,” Hageman, R-Wyo., said. America is a “land of opportunity,” she continued, explaining she is seeing a spirit of freedom and optimism come out “of the Trump administration.” By contrast, the Wyoming congresswoman says, “[w]hat comes out of the Biden administration and Democrat authority is control and dictatorship and telling us that everything is bad.” Hageman has experienced the rich opportunities America offers firsthand. When Hageman's parents brought her home from the hospital, they had five children under the age of six, were $200,000 in debt, and only had $35 in their bank account. The ranch home where Hageman lived with her parents and four older siblings as a small child did not have a telephone and initially did not even have electricity. “We were pretty isolated, but we were raised where I was driving when I was four years old to help dad feed [the animals],” Hageman said. “We were riding horses, we were moving cows, we were fixing fences, we were all very engaged in the ranching business because you had to be. I think it's one of the reasons that a lot of ranching families had lots of kids because that was the cheap labor and that was no exception in my family.” Hageman went on to attend a community college in Wyoming and spent a couple years judging livestock before going on to law school and having a successful career as a trial attorney for 34 years. In 2021, she announced her run for Congress. “The reason that I made the decision to run for Congress was that because Wyoming only has one representative, I think we really need to make it count. We need to focus on what is in the best interest of Wyoming,” Hageman said. In 2022, Hageman defeated Republican incumbent and outspoken Trump critic Rep. Liz Cheney, and won reelection in 2024. “I did not feel like my predecessor was here on behalf of Wyoming,” Hagemand said, referring to Cheney. “I felt that she was here on behalf of herself, the military industrial complex, and then near the end, the effort to destroy president Trump and anyone who was one of his supporters.” Hageman joins “Problematic Women” to share her journey to Congress and discuss the changes she has seen to the country since Trump took office on Jan. 20. Also on today's show, we discuss how the Trump administration is restoring safety to America's streets through an aggressive crackdown on crime, and how the president's policies are rebuilding patriotism across the nation. Does the slipper still fit? What happened to the Cinderella story? On this Monday episode of "Fearless," Jason asks the question — where is this year's feel-good story? March Madness has always been about the unexpected underdog, the Cinderella team that captures the nation's heart. But this year? The magic seems to be missing. Could the NIL era be to blame for the tournament's increasing predictability? It's not just the action on the court that feels off; March Madness commercials are drowning in virtue-signaling. Companies like Home Depot, Experian, and Gatorade are putting NCAA women's basketball stars front and center, while male athletes take a back seat. That's right — men are now being used as props to highlight female athletes. Steve Kim joins the show to break down the current landscape of college basketball. Meanwhile, UConn women's head coach Geno Auriemma has a full-blown meltdown, complaining about Arkansas State having to travel 45 minutes from the team's hotel to play. When will women's sports stop leaning into the victimhood narrative? Outside March Madness, ESPN's very own Stephen A. Smith gets exposed as “the Angry Black Man” by a network producer in a secret interview. Is this a hit job, or is the truth finally catching up to Stephen A.? Plus, did Steph Curry actually sink that viral full-court shot, or is there more to the story? And with Jameis Winston now leading the New York Giants, what can fans expect from the new signal-caller? Finally, Jason and Steve Kim pay tribute to one of the greatest athletes of all time — boxing legend Big George Foreman. A jam-packed episode of "Fearless" you won't want to miss! Sometimes life needs just a little push. Such as when Film Editor Lisa Cheek was abruptly fired from doing the work she loved, cutting television commercials. Two days later she got a call at 2:45am – from cinematographer and director Rober Owen who knew and valued her work. That call brought Lisa into the director's vision of filming the original story of Cinderella, written in China in 768 AD, in China. But Lisa had to say yes, now, and be on location to hit the ground running in just several weeks. Thinking back to when she first saw Cinderella at the age of five, etched into her memory as, “the most magical story”, she couldn't say no. Reality soon hit, however, when Lisa realized the film would be told entirely in Mandarin – a language she didn't speak. In her new book, SIT, CINDERELLA, SIT: A Mostly True Memoir, readers can follow Lisa as she worked to put it all together throughout ancient locations in extremely rustic and remote villages near the Tibetan Border. Meanwhile, missing her beloved terrier back home, Lisa rescued two dogs – one an abandoned puppy, and the other an abused dog she named Cinderella.
