How can leaders foster a culture of innovation and psychological safety in their organizations? In this episode of the Innovation Meets Leadership podcast, host Natalie Born sits down with Tim Fisher, the president of Jackson + Coker, to discuss leadership, innovation, and the importance of psychological safety in the workplace. With over 30 years of experience in the staffing industry, Tim shares his insights on how leaders can create an environment where employees feel valued, appreciated, and comfortable taking risks. He emphasizes the significance of common sense leadership, the golden rule, and the willingness to listen and be vulnerable. Tim also delves into the challenges faced by the healthcare industry and how his company is working to address the shortage of physicians and the mental health concerns among healthcare professionals. Tim Fisher currently serves as the President of Jackson + Coker, a locum tenens company filled with individuals who share his passion for making a difference in the world. Every day, he is surrounded by colleagues who inspire him to be better, expect excellence from one another, and understand the power of teamwork, positive energy, and hard work. The company is literally saving lives on a daily basis, and Fisher's role allows him to align his personal values with the company's values, an experience he has never had before in his career and one that he thoroughly enjoys. The Shaping of a Leader (00:00:00 - 00:05:00) Tim's upbringing and early experiences shaped his perspective on leadership. The Air Force Academy taught him the importance of being a good follower before becoming a leader. Common sense and the golden rule are essential in leadership, but often forgotten as people gain success. Fostering Psychological Safety (00:05:00 - 00:12:00) Psychological safety is crucial for innovation, as people must feel comfortable failing. Leaders should be visible, approachable, and willing to listen to their employees. Vulnerability and admitting mistakes can help build trust and psychological safety within the team. Challenges and Opportunities in the Healthcare Industry (00:12:00 - 00:21:00) The locum tenens industry helps address the shortage of physicians in underserved areas. Healthcare professionals face burnout and mental health concerns, especially in the wake of the COVID-19 pandemic. Partnering with locum tenens firms can provide physicians with flexibility and the opportunity to focus on patient care. The Importance of Purpose in Work (00:21:00 - 00:26:00) Many workers feel unappreciated and unhappy in their workplace, highlighting the need for purpose-driven organizations. Connecting employees' work to a greater mission can increase engagement and satisfaction. Finding one's purpose is a journey, and it's okay to take time to discover it through experimentation and failure. Becoming a Better Person in the Workplace (00:26:00 - 00:27:00) Workplaces that focus on helping employees become better people are thriving in today's world. Bringing one's full self to work and feeling appreciated are essential for employee well-being and success. Quotes: "If you're not a good follower, you can't be a good leader." - Tim Fisher "Innovation does not happen if people are not comfortable failing." - Tim Fisher Connect with Tim: LinkedIn: https://www.linkedin.com/in/timfischer44/ LEAVE A REVIEW + help someone empower their businesses through collaboration, innovation, and transformation by sharing this episode or clicking here to listen to our previous episodes. Well, we knew it was coming. The Supreme Court is finally handing down its decisions in the remaining cases from this term. They disposed of five this morning, will release a few more tomorrow, and finish it off early next week. Among the cases are a few biggies, and they announced one of them today. In NY State Rifle and Pistol Assn v Bruen, this illegitimate Supreme Court just overturned New York's law against concealed carry unconstitutional, thereby giving Americans license to carry guns anywhere they want. Truly frightening, especially coming so soon after the recent round of mass shootings. And their decision on Roe v Wade is coming within the next week or so. Lucky us! But today, the fifth day of public hearings put on by the House Select Committee investigating the 1-6 attack on the Capitol is scheduled to begin right around 3pm ET. This show goes live at 5. We'll carry it live, either for the whole hour or until they adjourn, at which time we'll talk about it. Again, lucky us! PS Well, the hearing ended at 5:30, and I didn't have Howie ready to go today. So, instead I pulled out an interview I did back in 2014 with Tim Fisher, former Deputy Prime Minister of Australia who helped push through reasonable gun control laws there following their one and only mass shooting. Since the Port Arthur Massacre and the new gun laws Fisher helped pass, there hasn't been another one since. We could learn a thing or two from them!

I also cover a few new additions to my Disciples of Tzeentch army. The main ‘meat’ of the show is an in-depth chat with Tim about his stunning Daughters of Khaine army which was debuted at Games Workshops Heat 3 tournament at Warhammer World, and picked up a best army nomination. Tim shares some excellent ideas including the narrative elements behind his army, how he included the Greek elements from the teaser videos on his bases, and an amazing way to paint a red lacquered armour effect. enjoy!   As always we are sponsored by: Mierce Miniatures Support the podcast by making all your hobby purchases through this link: Kirton Games Webstore You can also support the Podcast further via: Patreon Itunes Music: Intro – Vale of Shadows - Gunship Outro – Soviet- Ghosts (Silent Gloves Remix)

Tonight's special guest is Tim Fisher, a returning NAASCA family member who lives in the Las Vegas area and runs Juvenile Justice Now. Tim, a child abuse survivor, will be with us tonight to describe his experience, strength and hope. Tim was seven years old when he met his predator, a neighbor, teaching Sunday school at the Baptist church. Now Steve Friess has written an article about Tim's important work: One Survivor's Crusade Reveals a Plague of Errors in Nation's Sex Offender Registries. The subtitle: "Estimates of the number of entries with crucial mistakes run into the tens of thousands. One man—and pretty much only one man—is trying to fix them." Tim has told us in the past, "By the time I had reached my 14th birthday I had been sexually molested approximately 350 times over the course of seven years." He continues, "It took four years for me to become strong enough to come forward." Eventually he went to the Anaheim police and reported his abuse and name his predator. From start to finish it took a year almost to the day for him to be convicted. Eventually he took a plea of guilty to 49 counts of child molestation, lewd conducts involving a minor and with the use of force. Sadly although he was sentenced to 2 to 12 years he was released after serving just nine months. "I'm here to remind you that the abuse never stops for the victim," Tim says, "I encourage anyone who has been sexually abused to make a report even if it happened when you were a child." In the recently published article, Steve accompanies Tim to the home of his molester, a registered sex offender.

Tim, a child abuse survivor, will be with us tonight to describe his experience, strength and hope. Tim was seven years old when he met his predator, a neighbor, teaching Sunday school at the Baptist church. The man began grooming and manipulating Tim and his parents, offering Tim and his sister rides to and from church in his little red Volkswagen. Thus began a situation that was to last seven years. His mother told him that their neighbor needed some help in his yard and around the house and that Tim would be going to go with him on Saturday mornings to help out for a few hours. "My parents must have thought they'd hit the lottery. Here was this fine, upstanding man of God who had taken a genuine interest in their young son's moral growth and development, says Tim. He goes on, "I'm here today because by the time I had reached my 14th birthday I had been sexually molested approximately 350 times over the course of seven years." He continues, "It took four years for me to become strong enough to come forward. Shortly after my 18th birthday I lit a fuse that would blow multiple families apart." Eventually he went to the Anaheim police and reported his abuse and name his predator. From start to finish it took a year almost to the day for him to be convicted. Eventually he took a plea of guilty to 49 counts of child molestation, lewd conducts involving a minor and with the use of force. Tonight's special guest is Tim Fisher, a returning NAASCA family member who lives in the Las Vegas area and runs Juvenile Justice Now. More than 100,000 sex offenders are in violation of state and federal laws by not registering their current addresses with local law enforcement. The Juvenile Justice Now web site operates as a public service, and uses the Internet by way of displaying pictures of people who are currently not in compliance with current sex offender registration laws. Users are encouraged to keep the available information on registered offenders current and up to date. Tim cautions that each state has it's own information collection and privacy / confidentiality policies, as well as policies / disclaimers / terms and conditions for access to information contained in state sex offender web sites (review individual state conditions of use). Megan's Law, signed into law in 1996 by President Clinton, allows states discretion in establishing criteria for disclosure, but compels them to make private and personal information on registered sex offenders available to the public. Tim's current project is “Find the Offender,” where he's researching the states registries' non-compliant offenders and attempting to locate them in compliance in other states. With this project he hopes to encourage communication between state agencies. "I started the project as a way to mark the 30th anniversary of my abuser's arrest," Tim writes. "At first the goal was to find 30 offenders in 30 days. I will take a count of how many records I have submitted for each state for their verification of my research as we get closer to the air date. I believe I have found more than 100."
