Connections are crucial. I brought my friend Nadine Moffatt on the podcast today to chat about what I call the connection “effect”: an energy exchange that occurs when two or more people share experiences.  There are so many benefits to connecting with new and old friends. Relating to someone else's stories is very grounding. Sharing ideas, resources, and perspectives is uplifting.  I encourage you to get out of your head and into your heart. Who do you feel like you should connect with? There's a reason behind that feeling and that person needs to hear from you. Go ahead and light yourself up with a reach-out, a group event, or even host a party. It doesn't have to be perfect. It just has to be you opening yourself up to the connection “effect”. My approval seeking paradigm stems from my childhood and the challenging relationship I had with my father. It manifested in my very low confidence when starting my business. In the early days, I was derailed when I received negative feedback, if I didn't make a sale, or when prospects were indifferent to my offerings. My own lack of belief in myself stopped me from pursuing my dreams. It took getting fired from one of my subcontracting jobs and my eating disorder diagnosis to wake me up to the negative impact of constantly seeking external validation. We are all good enough. We are all deserving and worthy of the dreams we possess. Seeking approval is not a bad thing, it's only holding you back when you put all of your value into the opinions of others. In this episode I share a bit of my personal experience as a kid growing up with a dad who had his own demons. This is a frame of reference to how I felt as a new entrepreneur and the actions I took (and didn't take). More importantly, I share the good and the bad of being approval seeking at work. NEAT stands for Non Exercise Activity Thermogenesis. It's the caloric burn that comes from movement beyond your workouts. Everyday life activities like walking your kids to school, pacing while on the phone, and walking up stairs. I'm interested in NEAT because I want to incorporate more movement into my life now that I'm no longer teaching 7+ fitness classes a week! My lifestyle has changed and it is more sedentary than ever before. But it is actually a lot more normal - most of us have desk jobs! Learn what NEAT is and be inspired to make one change this week to build a healthy habit that increases your energy expenditure.
