In this episode, we're talking about something I think we benefit from talking about again and again: stress, burn out, and self-care.   My guest is Steph Gallante, an Ayurveda Yoga Specialist, Mental Health & Trauma-Informed Yoga Teacher and Self-Care Coach and has a lot of wisdom to share on this topic.   Steff and I talk about something else we think is important the self-care conversation - the specific ways dominant culture impacts how we care for ourselves (or don't.)   We discuss... - Steph's mission as a self-care coach with a focus on social justice and equity. - The (sometimes unspoken but always felt) expectation that we conform to certain standards and ways of being. - How Ayurveda and yoga can help us align with nature's rhythms (and therefore our body's rhythms) - Permission to trust ourselves and acknowledge what we need in this season of life. Different types of rest   Let us know what stood out for you and what you want to add to this conversation. You can find us at the links below.   Steff's bio: Steff Gallante (she/her) is an Ayurveda Yoga Specialist, Mental Health & Trauma-Informed Yoga Teacher and Self-Care Coach.   Her mission is to disrupt the status quo of society's view of self-care, mental health, overall well-being, and most importantly: who gets to feel well. Steff's work centers on guiding clients who are disrupting oppressive systems in the world in creating a lifestyle of mindful self-care to support their mental, emotional, physical, and energetic health.   She empowers her clients through one-on-one and group sessions to uplift their day-to-day well-being and mental health by incorporating yoga asana, pranayama, meditation, mindfulness, and Ayurveda self-care practices. Steff's services provide holistic support so her clients can be more fully resourced, authentically show up in the world to support their communities, navigate everyday stress, work through the effects of trauma, and promote more ease and joy in their daily lives in a deeply personal and sustainable way.   Steff is an avid reader, sky watcher, and lover of dance. She is also a lecturer for Rutgers University's Department of Kinesiology and she facilitates wellness workshops for businesses, organizations, and schools.   Resources mentioned in this episode: Steff Gallante's website Steff's podcast The Wholistic Self-Care Collective Summer Community Circle June 20 The 7 Types of Rest by Saundra Dalton-Smith, MD The Invisible Kingdom: Reimagining Chronic Illness by Meghan O'Rourke What is Ayurveda? In 2016, on a leap of faith, I signed up for something called a Power Circle and was guided through a six month process by this amazing facilitator Jamie Greenwood. In the space that Jamie held for a small group of us, I said out loud my dreams for Mother's Quest for the first time, and at Jamie's urging, started a Facebook Group for the community I hoped to grow in my journey. Six plus years, almost a 100 podcast episodes, and over a thousand FB Group members later, Jamie has become a mother herself, and has evolved her coaching practice into one that that teaches big-dreaming, high-achieving women, many of them mothers, how to set boundaries and find home within ourselves, without an ounce of guilt. Jamie is also the host of The Path Home, a podcast that explores the many facets of home, how we find home in ourselves and how we create a sense of home in our work, our relationships, our communities and in the future we want to see. When we arrived to this interview as 2022 was coming to a close, Jamie and I were both in the midst of juggling health and wellness challenges with our children. The conversation that unfolded was the reminder we both needed of the power of self-care, of how grateful we are for the flexibility to reorganize things to care for our children when needed, and of finding and communicating our boundaries. Jamie has found a definition she loves…”boundaries are the safe distance at which I can love you and I can love myself.”   I loved this intimate conversation with the coach that helped me find my way at the start of Mother's Quest. In listening, I hope you are reminded, as I was, to slow down, to pay attention to what our bodies are telling us, to trust ourselves to set boundaries, to connect to what we're hungry for and to be brave enough to say it out loud. I hope this episode helps you come home to yourself.  This Episode's Challenge:  Part of coming home to ourselves is about bravery. Reach out to people for connection, and you might be surprised that you can build an instant community. Know that If you have a hunger for something, others likely have that hunger too. Ask yourself, “what kind of connection am I hungry for in my relationships and in my own community?” Then reach out.     About Jamie Greenwood: Jamie Greenwood is a self care and leadership coach and the founder of Homecoming, a 6 month group coaching program that teaches big-dreaming, high-achieving women how to set boundaries and find home in themselves, without an ounce of guilt. With over 15 years experience, Jamie specializes in helping women get really clear on who they are, how they want to live and then actually doing it on their own terms.  Jamie is also the host of The Path Home, a podcast that explores the many facets of home, how we find home in ourselves and how we create a sense of home in our work, our relationships, our communities and in the future we want to see. When Jamie's not coaching, speaking, or podcasting, you can find her running after her 14 year old, 6 year old and 4 year old daughters and wondering what's for dinner.   Connect with Jamie: Website | https://jamiegreenwood.co/ Podcast | https://jamiegreenwood.co/the-path-home-podcast Facebook | www.facebook.com/jamie.m.greenwood Instagram https://www.instagram.com/jamiegreenwoodcoaching/   Topics Discussed in this Episode: Navigating disappointment and that feeling of taking one step forward two steps back when challenges come up with our children How Jamie takes care of her children's needs without compromising her own What Jamie says to her children at breakfast that demonstrates to them that she matters too Jamie's favorite definition of “boundaries”…it's so beautiful! The importance of speaking our truth and why we should not use a “gratitude bypass” to obscure it.  Jamie's experience on Instagram and why she stopped using it   Making space to be quiet and to connect with our own wisdom Being brave and reaching out others   Resources Mentioned: Ep 94: Dear Body: Reflections on Embracing and Embodying 50 http://mothersquest.com/ep-94-dear-body-reflections-on-embracing-and-embodying-50/ Ep 95: An Anti-Hustle Guide To Living Your E.P.I.C. Free Stuff: https://livemyhappyhealth.com/free https://livemyhappyhealth.com/coachingwaitlist Kathy accidently landed a Ted talk telling her story, a story about choosing how you show up when life is a hurricane. She learned the importance of self care in a trial by fire if you will. In healing her relationship with herself and focusing on self care rather than taking care of everyone else, she found her power and started taking control of her own life. Once she healed her codependency and started taking radical responsibility in the ways she was showing up in her relationships and allowing herself to be mistreated, everything got better - her relationships, her finances, her business, her family dynamic. She and I discuss the importance of committing to what you really want, even if you're not sure how to get it and the power that comes with speaking an intention. When you commit to a vision, the universe starts conspiring for you and working for you (it's always working for you). Website: https://kathyleckey.com/ IG: @myselfcareshit YT: @kathyleckey

About Today's Guest:From Christie: "I'm Christie Cotcher (Chris-tie  Cot-cher), she/her, a Professionals' Self-Care Coach, Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist, and Owner of Christie Cotcher Coaching and Consulting in the Bay Area of Northern California. My coaching approach has been deeply informed by my undergraduate training in Psychology, my Master's Degree in Counseling, 10+ years as a Marriage and Family Therapist, and training professionals on efficiency and self-care to increase their sustainability and enjoyment of their careers. Identity: I identify with folks that serve others, mental health, and communities that acknowledge the influence of systemic and oppressive factors that feed our distress and burnout, that help us to recognize and counteract the internalization of capitalism while still existing in that system, and acknowledge the impact of stacking multiple layers of oppression onto our well-being, with a lens of intersectional feminism.Expertise: I specialize in helping clinicians, health care workers, and professionals to identify their symptoms of burnout and create first and second-order levels of change to address their needs, particularly around sources of resentment and in creating more sustainable solutions moving forward, including implementing boundaries, self-care practices and work-life integration techniques. I also coach professionals on developing financial literacy, including the fundamentals and FIRE techniques in particular, so they are empowered to pursue their pragmatic solutions.Projects: I will be hosting upcoming seminars on pre-, inter-, and post-vention techniques to address burnout, using Positive Psychology interventions to support resiliency and well-being, and financial literacy 101. Like to Know: I transitioned to coaching two years ago to specifically focus on supporting clinicians, health care workers and professionals' self-care practices and I am loving helping folks discover and implement manageable and pragmatic steps to support their well-being and career longevity.  I live in a custom built Tiny House on Wheels and love the freedom and flexibility this unconventional lifestyle affords me. You can find Christie online on... That's right mamas, that title is correct! Let's all stop trying to be #1 or world's greatest, motherhood isn't perfect, so we don't have to be either. Self care and stress management coach Justine Sones, believes exactly that and in this episode she shares how striving to be "world's most adequate mom" is actually what we all should be striving for. With new demands placed on all of us throughout this past year, Justine has continued to support and help mamas keep up to those demands and teach strategies to become a woman who truly understands her boundaries and how to advocate for her self care. This episode is jammed packed full of TRUTH bombs that Justine offers, I literally could not stop taking notes. Mamas, this episode is such a great conversation that we all need. Redefining how we think of self care and boundaries in this season of motherhood is SO needed. Even if you are someone who has strong boundaries or feels they have a good handle on their self care, we all know someone in our life who needs reminders and Justine offers all of those. Justine is so connected and my favourite part of the episode is how she defines boundaries and connects that to our feelings, choice making and how we overall interact with ourselves and others. "Your feelings are where your boundaries begin." Justine is engaging, funny and a mama who everyone needs to sit at the table with. We can't wait to have her on the podcast again! Check out more about her HERE and join her Friday Feels Email list HERE (seriously I joined and it is so great! I love drinking my coffee and reading through it every other Friday!) Lastly, she is on Insta and twitter too!
