On the morning of August 21, 1996, Trudy Appleby, an 11-year-old girl from Moline, Illinois, missed her scheduled 9:00 AM phone call with her best friend. Thirty minutes later, Trudy was seen getting into a car, believed to be a Chevy Celebrity, with a white man in his twenties. She was never seen again.  Trudy's father came home during his lunch break and made lunch for Trudy, assuming she was out playing with friends. But when he returned at the end of the workday, the lunch was still on the table, untouched—and Trudy was nowhere to be found. A massive investigation was launched, and persons of interest were eventually identified, however, Trudy has never been located. It's been more than 28 years since Trudy vanished, and investigators are still searching for her... Trudy Appleby was last seen at around 9:30 AM on the morning of August 21, 1996, near her home located near 41st Street and 23rd Avenue in East Moline, Illinois. A witness reported seeing her getting into a gray or silver four-door Chevrolet Celebrity with a white man, now believed to be William “Ed” Smith.  At the time, Trudy was wearing a black one-piece swimsuit, spandex shorts, blue tennis shoes, socks, and a t-shirt. She was also carrying a beach towel. Law enforcement has named three persons of interest in the case: William “Ed” Smith, David Whipple, and Jamison “Jamie” Fisher. To date, no one has been charged in connection with Trudy's disappearance. Police believe they are just missing a few key details to solve the case. Anyone with information about Trudy Appleby's case is encouraged to contact the Moline Police Department at 309-534-2140 or Crime Stoppers of the Quad Cities at 309-762-9500. There is currently a $10,000 reward for information. This is a recording of our "Capital markets structures for originators (sidecars for MGA's)" live webinar that was held on November 21st 2024 and featured insurance-linked security (ILS) and reinsurance industry experts that joined us to discuss the developing trend for risk originators using ILS structures to source capital markets risk and partner capacity. The use of alternative sources of risk and reinsurance capital by the originators of insurance risk, such as managing general agents (MGAs), is a notable trend and one we anticipate expanding over time. There have been numerous attempts to achieve this in the past, effectively bringing the capacity of ILS funds and institutional investors closer to the sources of risk. Some of these have faced challenges, in terms of controlling attritional losses to find the right balance between risk and return.  But now, the market has started to make innovative use of ILS structures such as sidecars, to provide aligned mechanisms through which investors can participate in the underwriting performance of MGAs, while those MGAs can benefit from access to an efficient, alternative capital source. This Artemis Live webinar was moderated by Steve Evans and featured participants: Scott Cobon, Managing Director of Insurance Management Services at Artex Capital Solutions; Raoul Lobo, Vice President at Stone Point Capital; Brad Adderley, Managing Director and the Bermuda Managing Partner at Appleby; and Ethan Allen, Executive Vice President, Chief Risk Officer at MS Transverse Insurance Group. Speakers explored what potential sponsors of these structures need to be aware of and preparing for, as well as the opportunity for investors to partner with risk originators using sophisticated ILS and capital market structures. Today's episode is a special one both for me personally and for the month we are in. As most of you know, October is breast cancer awareness month and as we wrap up October, I'm so grateful for the opportunity to introduce you to my sweet friend Lexie Appleby who is a breast cancer survivor and advocate. Breast cancer has touched my life as my mom was diagnosed with it in October of my junior year of high school and passed away after a brief battle in June of the following year. So this episode is special for me in so many ways.   Lexie's story is one that is full of chasing dreams and finding herself on top of the world only to have it all come crashing down with the news of her breast cancer diagnosis. In that moment, by God's grace, she made the crucial choice to see this diagnosis not as a burden but as an unexpected opportunity from the Lord to use her story in ways only He could. She takes us on her incredible journey today through the pageant world as an NFL cheerleader and now as an influencer and speaker through her Born To Sparkle Brand.   If you find yourself wrestling with unexpected news or suddenly in an unplanned season, you will be encouraged as you hear Lexie share her story of God's faithfulness through her journey and the reminder that He does not break His promises to lead us to His calling and purpose for our lives.   So pull up a seat, grab a cup of coffee and enjoy hearing from my sweet friend, Lexie Appleby.   For more information on Lexie and Born to Sparkle, visit https://www.instagram.com/lexie_appleby/?hl=en

Meet Tina Lucci from Allentown, Pennsylvania. She is a special education teacher and a mother of two boys. Tina is a survivor of pancreatic cancer, having been diagnosed during the holiday season of 2019. She first felt unwell at work, so she went to the emergency room. Her diagnosis was a shock, as she had no family history of pancreatic cancer and was a mother of two young boys. Tina chose not to share her diagnosis with her loved ones initially, preferring only her immediate family to know, especially since it was the holiday season. She felt ashamed and like she had somehow brought the cancer upon herself. Tina started chemotherapy treatment but had allergic reactions, such as swelling of her tongue, and had to switch to a different regimen. She traveled from Allentown to Philadelphia to Fox Chase Cancer Center for her treatments. However, her local hospital's oncology department also provided treatment closer to her home. To date, she has undergone over 70 chemotherapy treatments and counting, and has also had radiation therapy. Chemo has been effective for her during her nearly 5-year journey. She was scheduled to undergo an Appleby procedure, but the cancer had spread to her liver, leading to the cancellation of the surgery. After spending four days in the hospital, she continued chemotherapy to keep her tumor stable. Tina has become an advocate for herself and feels that chemotherapy is the best way to extend her time with her family rather than putting herself through a risky surgery. Tina describes how cancer has made her softer and more gentle. She finds herself letting minor annoyances go and living life more fully. She takes every opportunity to spend quality time with her sisters and friends. Overall, Tina is making the most of her experience with cancer, referring to it as her "prison time." She feels that she is serving time with this disease but is making the best of it. Episode 53 – Separation Anxiety – To crate or not to crate, that is the question   Welcome to the first episode in this second year of The Pet Behaviour Chat Podcast!   This episode was inspired by a Facebook post I saw in one of our local dog groups where an alarming number of people advised the poster, who has a dog showing Separation Related Behaviours to “just get a crate for the dog and put it in the crate when you are away from the home”. This approach has so many potential pitfalls and could actually do more harm than good when it comes to the welfare of the dog in question.   Have a listen to this episode where I chat through my thoughts on this issue and highlight the potential problems that could arise from recommendations such as this one. Don't get me wrong, a crate or a safe space *may* be an option for some dogs, but it is not ok to just make blanket statements or recommendations such as this when the details of the case are not fully known.   Listen as I chat through: 1.      The importance of obtaining an accurate diagnosis 2.      The importance of the dog feeling comfortable in a crate 3.      The underlying mental and emotional health implications and motivations 4.      Why blanket statements such as this can actually make things worse 5.      How we, as Veterinary Behaviourists, always consider the long-term health and longevity of a good quality life for the pets in our care   Here are some of the resources I mention in the episode: 1.      King, J. N., Simpson, B. S., Overall, K. L., Appleby, D., Pageat, P., Ross, C., Chaurand, J. P., Heath, S., Beata, C., Weiss, A. B., Muller, G., Paris, T., Bataille, B. Jeffrey Epstein's financial activities in Bermuda involved leveraging offshore entities and legal services from firms like the Appleby law firm, a prominent player in offshore finance. Through Bermuda's offshore financial system, Epstein was able to obscure his wealth and engage in complex financial dealings, potentially aiding in tax evasion and hiding the origins of his fortune. His use of such offshore jurisdictions helped shield the full extent of his assets from scrutiny, contributing to the secrecy surrounding his financial empire.(Commercial at 13:21)To contact me:Bobbycapucci@protonmail.comsource:https://www.icij.org/investigations/paradise-papers/jeffrey-epsteins-offshore-fortune-traced-to-paradise-papers/Become a supporter of this podcast: https://www.spreaker.com/podcast/the-epstein-chronicles--5003294/support.

Because this is our last "County Episode" for a while, what with next Monday seeing the start of our month-long Haunting Season of spooky content, for this week's episode we've pulled out all the stops, going a bit bonkers for the half-forgotten history and folklore of Westmoreland! We start off chatting about various Harvest Fair traditions, including beliefs about Michaelmas, "Lawless Hours" and the delightfully anarchic Kidderminster Fray - after which we wend our way to Westmoreland.Aside from chatting about some of the county's history, including its flooded Corpse Road, the Romantic 'Lake Poets' who called it home, and sites like Kendal, Grasmere, Appleby and Lake Windermere, Martin throws the sweet and savoury together for this week's County Dish, with delights including Westmoreland Sweet Lamb Pie and the county's traditional Pepper Cake! When it comes to folklore, interspersed with some excerpts from next Saturday's Local Legends interview with the one and only TAFFY THOMAS!!!! (yes, you read that correctly) England's first-ever Storytelling Laureate who shares two tales in just this episode, we talk about Westmoreland's murderous giant Girt Will, Mary Baines the Witch of Tebay, the Curse of Levens Hall, and much more besides. Then it's on to the main event: Martin's take on "The Somnambulist" which draws together William Wordsworth, the legend of Aira Force, elves, dragons, questing knights, and a healthy dose of the supernatural...We really hope you enjoy the episode, and we'll be back on Thursday with a new Something Wicked bonus episode about the glamorous 17th century mass murderess La Quintrala ahead of Saturday's full Local Legends chat with Taffy, and the launch of Haunting Season 2024 next Monday! The Three Ravens is an English Myth and Folklore podcast hosted by award-winning writers Martin Vaux and Eleanor Conlon.Released on Mondays, each weekly episode focuses on one of England's 39 historic counties, exploring the history, folklore and traditions of the area, from ghosts and mermaids to mythical monsters, half-forgotten heroes, bloody legends, and much, much more. Then, and most importantly, the pair take turns to tell a new version of an ancient story from that county - all before discussing what that tale might mean, where it might have come from, and the truths it reveals about England's hidden past...Bonus Episodes are released on Thursdays (Magic and Medicines about folk remedies and arcane spells, Three Ravens Bestiary about cryptids and mythical creatures, Dying Arts about endangered heritage crafts, and Something Wicked about folkloric true crime from across history) plus Local Legends episodes on Saturdays - interviews with acclaimed authors, folklorists, podcasters and historians with unique perspectives on that week's county. With a range of exclusive content on Patreon, too, including audio ghost tours, the Three Ravens Newsletter, and monthly Three Ravens Film Club episodes about folk horror films from across the decades, why not join us around the campfire and listen in?Learn more at www.threeravenspodcast.com, join our Patreon at www.patreon.com/threeravenspodcast, and find links to our social media channels here: https://linktr.ee/threeravenspodcast Get bonus content on Patreon Hosted on Acast. By Adam Turteltaub Data analytics is a pretty darn big deal in compliance and ethics these days, with rising expectations for compliance programs to be able to demonstrate their effectiveness using hard data. The word “data” even appears a dozen times is the US Department of Justice Criminal Division's Evaluation of Corporate Compliance Programs document. Walter Appleby, formerly VP, Compliance & Ethics at Georgia-Pacific and Rosie Williams, Director, Compliance & Ethics there will be addressing “Harnessing the Power of Data:  Unleashing Compliance Excellence” at the SCCE 23rd Annual Compliance & Ethics Institute, which will be held September 22-25 in Grapevine, TX. In this podcast they explain that better use of data carries a number of benefits including a stronger risk assessment and management program, better informed decision making, and more effective use of compliance resources. Data analytics begins with collecting together the data you have and determining its quality. As the old adage says: bad data in, bad data out. Sources of data can include your helpline, training statistics, HR and even legal. You will also need to determine which metrics best reflect the performance of the compliance program. Here, the risk assessment is helpful, but so too is taking the time to listen to and think through the needs of your customers in the business unit. Next, determine the proper recipe for integrating the various data resources so you and leadership can gain insights into gaps and deficiencies. This likely includes taking the time to think graphically to determine how best to visualize the data in ways management finds useful. Listen in to learn more about how to use data to pinpoint issues, identify opportunities and assess the effectiveness of your program. And, don't forget to catch their session at the 23rd Annual Compliance & Ethics Institute.

Imagine this: you and your spouse go to Appleby's for a Valentine's Day dinner. You pay the check with your credit union debit card and, shazam, you get 10% cashback. An impossible story? Not according to Joel Richard,  chief experience officer at Interra Credit Union in Indiana.  That cashback came to him because he was using a card linked to Cashback+ which delivers cashback to members who use their debit card at participating merchants and the merchant list is an all star collection including WalMart, BestBuy, Target, Amazon and as you will hear in the show the Cashback+ system is very open to including offers from a credit union's business members. If you are thinking this is deja vu again you're right.  A few months ago we did a short newsflash episode with David Metz, CEO of Prizeout the company behind Cashback+.  What's different about this show is that Interra's Richard is here singing Cashback+'s praises. Also on the show is Matt Denham, a Prizeout co-founder, who tells how the product has morphed and is now at an increasing number of credit unions.Face this fact: credit card rewards are probably going to shrink as Mastercard and Visa fees do.  Cashout+ rides entirely different rails. This is about customer acquisition strategies deployed by sophisticated merchants.Probably, too, many of your members are fretting about balancing their household budget. Cashback can be a very sweet plus for many American households. And if you wonder who Andrea is, click here.Listen up.Like what you are hearing? Find out how you can help sponsor this podcast here.
