The topic of business success keeps coming up lately and I had to record this episode to address what I'm seeing and how to reframe it. So many business owners focus too much on the timeline of reaching certain business milestones and not enough on what's already been accomplished. In today's episode, I'm sharing how to redefine what business success really means, how to celebrate what you've achieved, and how to stop comparing your business to someone else's. Not feeling aligned in your business can lead to feelings of frustration and imposter syndrome. Listening to what other people think you should do in your business is not going to fulfill you. You need to discover what lights you up. In today's episode, I'm talking with Lindsey Lopez Horwitz, founder of Virtually Lindsey and a former client of mine, about how she embraced alignment in her business and made the mindset shifts to get her there. Lindsey shares how being coachable, finding the things that lit her up, and reframing how she presented herself online led her to become unapologetically bold in her business. Selling is something we've all struggled with at some point or another. We've seen the icky practices online and want to avoid it at all costs. I get it. I've been there, too. There's a lot of pressure when it comes to sales and it's even worse when you don't have the confidence you need to sell like a CEO. In today's episode, I'm sharing how you can build that confidence and shift your mindset when it comes to sales. It's a pep talk from the heart with advice on how to approach sales as a connection. Remember: not closing a sale isn't failure. It's practice and research that you can use to build more opportunities in your business. When you started your business, did you have trouble stepping into the CEO role? Perhaps your people-pleasing tendencies or insecurities had you asking other people for advice and permission instead of leading the way. These barriers are normal and can be overcome by shifting your mindset in your business. In today's episode, I'm talking with Marissa Miluk on how she's fully embraced being the CEO of her business by infusing it with her unique personality and continually investing in herself. By doing so, she's fostered a deeper sense of community with her audience and grown her social following by leaps and bounds. This is a story about how I learned to bake sourdough bread from scratch, after being intimidated by it for quite some time. But it's really a story about how imposter syndrome can seep into every part of your life, and how you can fight it. In today's episode, I'm sharing what exactly imposter syndrome is, how it shows up in our lives (no matter who you are), and my advice on how to change your mindset and move past your limiting beliefs. Don't be afraid to put yourself out there and try something new. Even if the outcome isn't what you expected, it doesn't mean you failed. When you come up with an idea for a business, and even when you're well into owning and running a business, imposter syndrome can hit hard. It can be easy to think that you're not capable or that you have to try something completely different. But if you take a beat and follow your intuition, you'll see that you don't have to ditch your business or start all over with a new idea. In today's episode, I'm chatting with Amy Nielson about how she has grown her business making printables for teachers to a multi-million dollar business operating on a membership model. She's talking about how important it is to do something that you love, how to reframe entrepreneurial challenges as opportunities, and the importance of collaboration. Summer is coming, and I know we all want to soak up the sunshine with family or friends or even have some extra time to ourselves. That's a big part of why we became entrepreneurs, right? To prioritize time off to recharge. In today's episode, I'm talking about why it is so important to prioritize the life that you want to live. I'm sharing three things I want you to do, right now, to make time for yourself. Whether it's shorter work days in the summer, taking off the entire month of December, or 3-day weekends, make yourself a priority. Today, I'm talking with my guest and dear friend Natalie Gingrich of the Ops Authority all about core values. The hard truth is that you can't make the best business decisions and attract the right clients without clear, defined core values. You have to define, refine, and incorporate your core values and let them create the foundation for your business before you can do the work that is most aligned for you. In this episode, Natalie shares how she defined her core values, her experiences with making business decisions that weren't aligned with her values, and how you can make creating your core values a priority right now. So many women I speak with want to move their business to the next level, but they just feel… stuck when it comes to getting to the next step. These aren't women lacking in skill or expertise or even ambition. No, what they're missing is the confidence they need to believe in their own strengths and strategic abilities. And so often, they're lacking confidence because they don't know themselves. In today's episode, we're going to talk about how to get to know yourself, why knowing yourself allows you to be confident in your decisions and skills, and how that confidence can transform your business, by allowing you to step into roles where you can share your strategic brilliance, instead of relegating yourself to an implementation role for others. If you're ready to unlock the key to business growth with ease, keep listening. This episode will get you started on that path. You have poured your heart and soul into your business, making sure that it's aligned with who you are and what you want to offer … and now you need a brand that fits. And not just a logo and color palette but also visual messaging that speaks to your target audience and also what your business represents. In today's episode, I'm chatting with Abbey McGrew of Wayfarer Design Studio about building a brand with a heart-led strategic approach, starting with baby steps when you don't know what you want, common mistakes to avoid, and the benefits of working with a brand professional. Whether your business is brand new or getting a revamp, your brand is an important part of relaying who you are to your potential customers. And while you technically can DIY it, working with a professional saves you time and gives you invaluable expertise for landing on a brand that feels truly aligned. Leaving the 9-5 world to become an entrepreneur comes with a lot of flexibility. However, if you don't set boundaries—and stick to them—you won't be able to achieve the balance that you desire. It's easy to trade freedom for burnout if you're not careful. In today's episode, I'm talking about why entrepreneurs get burnt out, the importance of sticking to the boundaries that you set, and how to have difficult conversations around boundaries. The more you know who you are, the easier it is to identify boundaries that work for you. Asking questions of yourself and taking steps to implement your boundaries will keep you aligned in your business. If you don't trust yourself, it's going to be really difficult to step fully into the role of CEO. Unfortunately, it's common for women in leadership to overlook this need to trust in themselves. It's a new year, and I'm excited about the prospects and growth to come. At the end of each year, I choose a word of the year for the new year to come. I'm sharing my 2023 word of the year with you all in this episode. With my word of the year, I'm focusing not on anything new, but on supporting what I already have going in my business and making sure that it aligns with what I want for myself, both professionally and personally. My hope for you is that you spend some time getting really clear on what success means to you—not on how you think it should be defined or based on others' thoughts and values. My hope is that 2023 is the year that you continue to uncover the truest version of yourself and show up as that person the best that you can every day. How we define success is often influenced by those around us, society, the industry that we work in—outsiders whose opinions aren't really relevant to our sense of self. The most important factor in your success and how you operate as a leader is you. Today's guest is Nicole Kalil, a coach, podcast host, author, and speaker, who I met at a retreat where we bonded over wanting less with intention instead of more, more, more. She's here today to chat with me about what it looks like to embrace our own definition of success. In today's episode, Nicole also shares why it's important to lead yourself, get out of your comfort zone, and adopt a growth mindset. She also gives us her best advice on what you can do today to start building trust and confidence in yourself and what you want for your business. During this season, everyone is reflecting on their year—how it went, what they want more of, goals for next year. As an entrepreneur, the journey is full of ups and downs, and you may be wondering if you're “cut out” for the role you've taken on as CEO of your business. In today's episode, I'm sharing why it's important to do your inner work in order to have the success you want in your business. Reflecting on what feels right, what alignment looks like for you, your definition of success—all these things can help you to become a more empowered leader. And if you're not doing these things, it can be easy to feel like entrepreneurship isn't right for you. Sure, a 9-5 job comes with stability, and if that's what you want, you should follow what feels right. But if becoming a badass CEO is what you want, you can do it with a growth mindset, clear vision and goals, and by finding a way to sell your services that feels aligned. In business, we are so used to a go-go-go mentality. Climb the ladder. Work long, hard hours to get ahead. Burn yourself out. And all for what? In today's episode, I'm chatting with transformational coach Gina DeVee about bringing feminine energy into your professional and personal life. Gina shares her story from broke and in debt to owning a multimillion dollar business. Did it take work? Of course. I regularly meet with a group of women who are leaders in my industry. We share ideas, hash out frustrations, and lift each other up. It's one of the most positive experiences in my professional life. Many people might see us as “competitors,” and it's certainly easy to view your peers as competition. The truth is that we have different business models, individual experiences, and unique expertise that set us apart, even though we're in the same space. In today's episode, I'm sharing the value of building relationships with your peers, and why it's important to find communities and circles that feel right for you. Building relationships is not only a great way to have trusted connections that you can bounce ideas off of and share wins with, it is also an opportunity for networking, referring, and growing your business. If you've never invested in a program or mentorship, you might question if anyone would want to invest in a similar offering from your own business. Or maybe you don't think you know enough or that you've refined your offer enough or made your sales page appealing for a large audience. While there's nothing wrong with slick offers or gorgeous landing pages, it's not a requirement for you to launch your product. That voice in your head saying “it's not good enough yet” is just Imposter Syndrome talking. In today's episode, I'm sharing how investing in yourself and understanding the benefits of having a mentor or a coach, taking courses to amplify your business, or prioritizing growth can help you see the benefits of what you're selling and quell the Imposter Syndrome voices that are holding you back. Once you've experienced investing in yourself, it's so much easier to see the benefits and confidently share your own offers and expertise with others, without letting little excuses or fears get in the way. Sales is something every entrepreneur has to engage in—and often something that feels terrifying or intimidating. No one wants to come across as sleazy or pushy or overbearing, and often, that's how people think of sales. That is not how selling has to be. In today's episode, I'm sharing a recent experience I had that I think is a helpful reframe for how to approach sales. It doesn't have to be overly complicated; it's about engaging in authentic conversation, asking questions, and genuinely wanting to help someone. As business owners, we're constantly tweaking our processes and trying to figure out how to sustainably scale. We have goals for higher revenue, shorter hours, vacations where we actually go on vacation, and more time with family. It can feel like you're constantly working toward something that will always be a work in progress. You may wonder, will I ever be content? In today's episode, I'm talking about how I've achieved contentment in my business, where I still have room for growth, and how to recognize contentment as a journey. Coaching is similar at its foundation. And because of that, it can be easy to look around in your area of expertise and see others who are doing similar work to you. It can be easy to get in your head about whether or not you should even move forward with your offering. In today's episode, I'm talking about celebrating your uniqueness (and others'), getting clear on your values, and sharing your story with your audience. Your experiences, personality, and approach all make your offering something completely its own. Let who you are and your values shine through in your messaging and marketing so that the right people will see your uniqueness and want to work with you. It's your story—not the fact that you're a coach, but the parts about you that are relatable—that will draw in your dream clients. If you've ever seen the marketing strategy where someone shares how they booked 10 new clients or did $10,000 in sales all while hiking through Europe or drinking cocktails on the beach, you may be wondering … How? The truth is that what it really takes to create a thriving, sustainable business is not always shared in marketing strategies. It's misleading to think that someone is running their business while they hang out on the beach. In today's episode, I'm sharing how important processes are to the sustainability of your business. The thing that allows you to have more time freedom is putting in the work to make sure that your business is running smoothly, whether it's hiring a team or getting client systems in place. When you prioritize processes, you're building something that feels good for future you and for the future version of your business. Private coaching can be a real game changer for your business or personal development—as long as it's with the right person. When it comes to private coaching, you want someone who is going to provide accountability and who truly cares about your journey and your growth, not someone who sees you as just another transaction on their spreadsheet. It's important to be able to identify your values and seek out a coach who is aligned with your needs, desires, and goals. I've had both fantastic and terrible coaching experiences, and in today's episode, I'm sharing with you what to look for and what to avoid when it comes to identifying the right private coach for you. I want you to feel confident investing in private coaching. Taking the time to really get clear about what you're looking for, research coaches and ask questions, and follow your intuition on the emotional connection will yield a private coaching experience that feels supportive and expansive. I am so excited for you to hear this episode with my friend Latrice Prater. Latrice now runs an agency that works with business women to help them build their systems and operations. She also works as an ADHD success strategist, helping others to understand how to find their strengths and craft a business and schedule that works for their unique needs. But, before her ADHD diagnosis, Latrice jumped from job to job when she got bored, and never fully understood why she couldn't settle on one thing. Her diagnosis helped her to understand that she has to do work that truly lights her up. She learned everything she could about how her neurodiversity affects her specifically—and how to see it as a gift. In this episode, she shares how her core values and knowing her worth impact the work she does and the clients that she works with. She uses her individuality to her advantage, plays to her strengths, delegates what isn't for her, and runs a business her way. I hope you love these inspiring words from this powerhouse entrepreneur and follow her example by embracing your own unique traits and personality to build a one-of-a-kind, fulfilling life and business that works for you. I am so honored to have Meg Burrage, my online friend and brilliant business woman, on the podcast today. Meg discovered the online marketing world while she was pregnant and was determined to leave her corporate job behind after maternity leave. After taking one course and then learning by helping others set up and market their own courses, Meg finally took the plunge and developed her own program. But her transition wasn't linear or easy. Meg learned about hiring employees (and letting go of employees), shifting business structures and plans, finding a partner, and acquiring clients on the go, which meant she overcame some steep learning curves on the way. So today, she's sharing her wisdom and knowledge with us. Creating a business that allows for freedom and flexibility through lifestyle launching and focusing on creating a product that's available instead of completely perfect has always been a priority for Meg. Crafting an individual launch strategy that can work for you and can provide a constant revenue stream can completely transform your business. Meg is here to remind us that there is no perfect way to launch your course. You can do what works for you and what feels good in your life, whether that means moving to the Caribbean just to see what it's like for a few months like Meg, turning down clients and projects that don't feel in alignment with your business, or even just accepting that you're more comfortable finding partners instead of employees for your business. You can create a business that is in alignment with your life, your goals, and your personality, and this episode with Meg will inspire you to do just that. When it comes to marketing, many people assert that they're “bad at it.” It feels scary. They don't know where to start. They think they have to be constantly creating new content, and that just leads to burn out. There are so many platforms and methods for marketing your business—it can feel overwhelming. But marketing doesn't have to be this big scary thing. In today's episode, I'm sharing with you a simple marketing strategy that makes it easy to put yourself out there. If you're relying mostly (or solely) on referrals, consider this method as a way to diversify your strategies. It all boils down to documenting your work. When you take the time to write down what is happening in your business in the moment—what you do for your clients, their challenges and how you solve them, their wins, their aha moments—you're creating opportunities for marketing. Marketing isn't only about numbers and data. It's not just about how many clients you serve, but how you serve them. This is what people want to hear about and hope they relate to you and your business, and it's how you'll attract the right clients that you want to work with. Emily started her business on a bit of a whim and is now doing multiple six-figures in revenue a little over two years since she took the leap. While this might sound like an overnight success story, it's anything but. Emily understood early on the importance of accepting support as she grew her business. She found me and knew that a business coach would help her work through the growing pains. She hired a team so that she could scale her business and still have time to travel and spend time with her family. On top of all that, Emily is a go-getter who doesn't let fear hold her back. She takes risks in her business because she knows they will bring great rewards. And she learns from the lessons that come up along the way. There's no magic wand you can wave to make your business a success. It takes hard work, a good support team, and systems in place. It takes curiosity, a willingness to learn, and being open to the opportunities and challenges that come your way. Whether you're just starting out or in the process of growing your business, this episode will inspire you to build a prosperous and rewarding career as an entrepreneur. “Just be consistent and you'll be successful!” I think every entrepreneur has heard this at some point in their career. Consistency is an important part of your business, but it's easy to get caught up in it to the point of burnout. Post on social media every day. Answer every single comment and DM. Be there for your audience 24/7. Consistency is about more than just showing up on social media. Consistency is about showing up for your audience or your clients, yes, but it's also about showing up for yourself. As a CEO, you have a lot to juggle between prioritizing your personal and your business needs. Remember that paying attention to what you need is a form of consistency. Whether you need a day for admin work or you need a full-on break, it's about checking in with yourself and making sure that your consistency aligns with your goals, your values, and your boundaries. Consistency is about showing up—but it doesn't have to look the same every day or even week to week. It's not black and white. Understanding the nuances of what it means to you and for you will help you go from resisting the idea to moving forward in a way that benefits you and your business. It's been 60 days since our move to Florida, and I have taken that time to really reflect on the changes in our life (and the things that haven't changed!) One thing I've lost track of in the last few years of running my business is the ability to prioritize myself, and this move has given me the opportunity to reset and recalibrate how I look at self-care. I've been making small changes to my self-care practices for several years, but it's sometimes hard to see the improvements in my life without taking time to look back. And this move has given me the opportunity to do that and think about how I want to ramp up my self-care going forward. Of course not everyone is going through the major life changes that I have. But, what small changes are you going through that give you an opportunity to improve the way you take care of yourself? Maybe your kids are starting daycare or you're starting a new exercise program. Improving the way you prioritize yourself just one percent will make you a better business owner and coach (and person and family member.) Prioritizing ourselves and then giving ourselves time to actually make progress and shift our mindset is key to moving forward in our personal growth and also in our business. Finding these moments to create new habits and new routines is what has allowed me to create a sustainable business and step into my best CEO self, and it will transform your life too. How does the word “marketing” make you feel? Does it get you excited to jump on your Instagram stories and talk about your business? Or does it make your skin crawl? Many business owners hold fears and limiting beliefs about marketing. They're afraid they don't have the right formula, the right message, or the right personality to market their services and grow their businesses. But good, sustainable marketing isn't about the formula. It's about understanding yourself, your business, and the impact you can have on your clients' lives, and then showing up and talking about it. Anyone – including you – can learn to appreciate marketing and do it with confidence. It just takes a mindset shift. Don't forget to join me in my free Facebook group, The UpLevel Lounge. I'm giving myself permission to experience change. In the past month, my family and I have moved across the country (for the fourth time since I started my business). And while a move of that magnitude is always a bit stressful, it's also been incredibly eye-opening. It's taught me to enjoy the present and give myself space to adjust. It's taught me to be protective of my energy and my time. More than anything, it's made me incredibly grateful for this business that can move and grow with me and my family. You don't need another program. You don't need another certification or business course or endorsement on LinkedIn. No, what you require to succeed is already within you. What you need is someone to help you see that power, unleash it, and use it to your greatest advantage. When I first started working with Nina, she knew she was skilled, but she had no idea what she was capable of. Months later, she's finally stepped into her power, transformed her career, and embraced her identity as a CEO. So before you go enrolling in yet another program, look inward. I don't buy the “million-dollar business” narrative. Which isn't to say I don't think you should shoot for a million-dollar business. If that's what your soul desires (not your ego), go for it. But I don't believe that your business has to make seven figures to be successful. And my own business is living proof. My business affords the lifestyle I want to lead. It allows me to be flexible, to spend time with my family, and to remain personally involved in every aspect of my work. So I love my little “lifestyle business” because it aligns with my version of success. Does yours? Don't forget to join me in my free Facebook group, The UpLevel Lounge. I'll be the first to admit that there's no shortage of coaches in the online business world. But that just means it's more important than ever to find a coach who really gets you. Someone who knows where you're coming from and understands where you want to be. Someone who will guide you gently in the right direction while also trusting your individual path. Someone who agrees with–and lives in accordance with–your core values. That connection might not be immediate. It might take a while for you to really open up to your coach.
