Is 'Male Loneliness" in older men, a real problem?

Male Loneliness Now, this isn't a very sexy topic but it is essential that we talk about it.It's a SERIOUS issue which I feel we're not addressing currently. In my line of work, I meet more and more guys who are lonely. Almost exclusively, none of them like to admit it, but it is becoming more and more common, the deeper I dive into this work. The question is, what can we do about it?Well, that's exactly what I attempt to tackle in this podcast. Like I mentioned earlier, it ain't sexy, but I do believe that it is vital that we talk about this, if only to bring awareness to the topic and help some guys realise that they might fall into this category... and that there is a solution. If you have begun to think that you might actually be a little lonely recently, or someone that you know is showing all the signs of isolation, this episode is for you. I talk about a number of ways to address this issue, and I truly hope you find it if not inspiring, educational at the very least. Matt

This was quite a different podcast for me to record this week, as "Hopps" is one of my oldest and dearest friends, and as it turns out, he's been struggling. To make it worse, it's been happening under my own nose.Paul is very open and honest in this episode, even more than I expected him to be. I take that as a huge compliment, as it shows his trust in me as his friend, but also as a professional publishing this podcast (having his approval means an awful lot to me). I trust that you the listener will show him the same respect. This man is pretty much responsible for me falling in love with radio, something I did back in the early 90's. Thirty years later, and I'm still broadcasting. He takes the compliment in his inimitable style.*Trigger warning - we do talk about depression in this episode. If you don't want to listen, please refrain from downloading this podcast. Well, I'm here to tell you that very little has changed in my life, what I have done, is added things to it.I'm still the same football-loving, sweary, golf-obsessed idiot I was before. What's changed is my attitude. I've not stopped doing much to be honest with you. I still love pretty much all the things I loved before. What I have done though, is added things to my life. Things that I feel are going to improve it and me. So, in this episode I go over those very briefly and explain how little has actually changed in my life, but at the same time, the huge difference those little additions have made to my life. Please, if you get a chance, can you rate and review this podcast please, it's vital for the algorithms that we show there are people listening, liking and commenting, which should help us climb the rankings.

Understanding that it was just his mind and false beliefs about life which were causing the suffering, he started to look into ways to heal himself and to get his life back on track. His passion had always been fitness but up until that point, he had neglected his mind. He began to recognise and break down the false story that had been playing in his head and he slowly started to dig his way out of the dark and into the life he had always dreamed of.Bez used to run a Go-Kart track and to the outside world, seemed to have it all. But behind closed doors, like so many of the stories we hear on the WNI Podcast, all was not as it seemed. Luckily, Bez is here to tell the tale and it's compelling one at that.I really hope you enjoy this episode; Bez opens up about his depression and how it nearly cost him his life. His friends picked him up, plus he had his Rock by his side, Alex (Mrs Baldwin). Pat proves that being vulnerable is OK. In fact, it's a good thing which helps you realise that most of us put up a false front, which is unnecessary. If you enjoy this episode, please make sure you leave a review (5-stars of course!) and I'll speak to you soon.

Being one of the founding members of the North Devon Jolly Boys doesn't sound like much of an achievement to anyone outside of said organisation. But for Andy, it's been vital. In this episode, I chat to Andy about everything from the Jolly Boys and what they've mean to him, life coaches, men hugging each other, the 'me too' movement and being a Cub Scout leader. It's quite a broad range of topics, but then Andy is a very knowledgable man.It was a brilliant conversation and I'm sure you'll get a lot from it. As a magazine editor, Andy might be seen as a little old school, but scratch beneath the surface and there's clearly a heart of gold, who's there for his mates in their time of need. You can get in touch with Andy via his website https://www.andycooperwords.com/ and there are links on there to his social media channels too.

Tom's an Ozzie, a Business Owner, Mentor and a Mindset Coach. This was actually a Facebook Live session, which we recorded at the end of January 2021 (in Lockdown), but it was so good, I wanted to give you guys the opportunity to listen too.Tom and I are pretty good mates, so I know his journey and it is well worth a listen. Tom coaches people by learning from his own mistakes, as he's made them all (according to him). He's a self-confessed Risk Taker but in 2015, his life turned upside down. By 2018, he'd pretty much hit Rock Bottom. But, I'm pleased to say, he's recovered from that and is here to tell us the tale and for us to learn from the mistakes he made. Go and give him a follow on Instagram, he pumps out great content on a very consistent basis.Tom's website: https://www.lifeaccordingtomurf.com/Tom's Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/lifeaccordingtomurf/

Whether you refer to them as friends, mates, buddies, chums, pals, your tribe, whatever, this podcast is for you. We'll take the mickey out of each other quite a lot on this show, because that's what mates do, isn't it?
