Play Episode Listen Later May 5, 2026 7:13

In this week's Wednesday Wisdom, Brent dives into a simple shift that can completely change how you view your own golf… Stop following the PGA Tour — and start following a player. When you watch the PGA Tour highlights, you're seeing the absolute best of the best, at their absolute best. Flagsticks getting attacked, putts dropping from everywhere, and scorecards that look almost unrealistic. But that's not real golf. In this episode, Brent explains why following an individual player gives you a far more accurate picture of what the game actually looks like — the ups, the downs, the missed cuts, the bounce-backs, and the grind in between. Because the reality is:Even the best players in the world have bad weeks. And understanding that might just be the thing that helps you stay patient, manage your expectations, and improve faster.Training Aids & Discount CodesBack 2 Basics Putting – Use the code YGP10 for 10% off or Click Here for 10% offDivot Board –Use the code YGP for 10% off or Click here for 10% off Strike Wedge – Click Here for 15% off Ryp Golf Speed Training – use the code YGP at check out for 10% off! Your Golf Performance Academy - Use code PODCAST at check out for 30% off any subscription.Aim Point Classes Sign Up HereWin a $350 True Protein Gift Pack - Sign Up HereSign up for the free course/library of 22 drills to help you get better at golf hereWe thank Titleist - The number 1 brand in golf for their continued support of the YGP Podcast!

Growing up in the small coastal town of Coffin Bay, Raegan didn't follow the typical pathway. With limited options around her, she picked up a golf club alongside her brother — and what started as something to do quickly turned into something much bigger. In this episode, Raegan shares when she first fell in love with the game, the moment she realised she could compete with the best, and the practice habits that have helped her rise to the top of Australian amateur golf. She also opens up about her experience competing on one of the biggest stages in the game, how she stays calm under pressure, and why she doesn't feel the need to constantly watch golf to improve. What if lowering your expectations is actually the key to playing your best golf? We often put so much pressure on ourselves to perform, to score, and to “have a good day” that it ends up doing the opposite. Looking at Rory's performance, there's a strong argument that being more freed up mentally allowed him to swing better, make clearer decisions, and ultimately perform at a higher level. But it wasn't just mindset. I also talk about how preparation separates the best players in the world from everyone else. Rory didn't just show up and hope to play well — he prepared at a level most golfers never get close to. That preparation builds confidence, reduces pressure, and allows freedom when it matters most. If you're serious about improving your golf, this episode will challenge the way you think about both your expectations and your preparation. We thank Titleist - The number 1 brand in golf for their continued support of the YGP Podcast!

They want to practice more. They want to get fitter. They want to lower their handicap. But here's the truth… If it's not scheduled, it's just a wish. The players who improve the most aren't always the most talented — they're the ones who are organised. They treat their improvement like an appointment, not an option. Think about it this way: You don't “try” to show up to a lesson… you book it.You don't “hope” to go to work… you schedule it. So why is your improvement treated any differently? If you're serious about getting better, start putting it in your diary:30 minutes of putting practice1 hour on the range working on a specific skillGym sessionsEven 10 minutes at home working on your setupLock it in. Just like a meeting. Just like a lesson. Because once it's in your diary, something changes:You're more accountableYou're less likely to skip itYou start building consistencyAnd consistency is what actually moves the needle. Most golfers don't fail because they don't know what to do…They fail because they don't consistently do it. So here's a simple challenge: Open your diary right now and book your next 3 practice sessions. Not “sometime this week.”Specific day. Specific time. Treat your game like it matters — and it will start to show.Win a $350 True Protein Gift Pack - Sign Up HereSign up for the free course/library of 22 drills to help you get better at golf hereWe thank Titleist - The number 1 brand in golf for their continued support of the YGP Podcast!

This week I want to share a really interesting lesson from a coaching session that opened up a bigger conversation about performance. I had a client who has been improving really nicely. His swing is trending in the right direction, contact is better, and overall ball flight has improved. But there was still one big frustration… inconsistency with his irons. So we put him on the launch monitor. With his 7 iron, his carry distance was ranging anywhere from 109 metres to 141 metres. That's a 32-metre gap with the same club. For any golfer, that's nearly the difference between being on the green or in a bunker over the back. Now here's where it gets interesting. I grabbed a different 7 iron — something I felt was better suited to his speed and delivery. Same player. Same swing. Same session. Suddenly his carries were between 138 metres and 143 metres. Tight window. Predictable. Repeatable. Nothing magical happened to his technique in those 10 minutes. The difference? Equipment. In this episode we talk about:Why inconsistency isn't always a swing issueHow launch monitor data can expose hidden problemsThe role shafts, loft, and head design play in distance controlWhy guessing your yardages can cost you shots every roundSometimes we beat ourselves up thinking our swing is broken… when in reality, the tools we're using might be working against us. If you've ever felt like you “flush one” and it comes up 20 metres short — this episode is for you.We thank Titleist - The number 1 brand in golf for their continued support of the YGP Podcast!
