This week on the Your Golf Performance Podcast, I sit down with lifelong friend and highly respected golf coach Christian Rainey. Christian's journey in golf has taken him from Australia to the United States to compete in college golf, before returning home to work with some of Australia's best young players as a state coach with Golf Australia. Following college, he also spent time caddying at the iconic Shinnecock Hills Golf Club in New York, one of the most famous venues in world golf and host of this week's U.S. Open. In this episode we discuss:
In this week's Wednesday Wisdom, I discuss the art of getting better at golf and why improvement starts with understanding where your game really sits. I break down how many greens in regulation golfers of different handicap levels typically hit, and why having realistic benchmarks can help you focus your practice on the areas that matter most. I also dive into the importance of slowing down your breathing on the golf course and how controlling your breathing can help settle your nerves, improve decision-making, and ultimately lead to better golf shots. Finally, I discuss one of the most valuable skills in golf: the ability to take a mental reset between shots. Bad holes and poor shots happen to everyone, but the players who avoid the downhill spiral are often the ones who can reset, refocus, and move forward without carrying frustration to the next shot. If you're serious about improving your golf, this episode will give you practical strategies you can start using immediately.Training Aids & Discount CodesBack 2 Basics Putting – Use the code YGP10 for 10% off or Click Here for 10% offDivot Board –Use the code YGP for 10% off or Click here for 10% off Strike Wedge – Click Here for 15% off Ryp Golf Speed Training – use the code YGP at check out for 10% off! This week on the Your Golf Performance Podcast, I sit down with PGA Professional and Head Teaching Professional art Long Reef Golf Club, Michael Infanti. Michael's coaching philosophy is simple: "Simplicity is Key." After completing his PGA traineeship at Penrith Golf Club and spending time playing professional golf, he found his true passion in coaching. Since joining Long Reef Golf Club in 2016, Michael has built one of the strongest junior and women's golf programs on Sydney's Northern Beaches while helping golfers of all levels improve their games. In this episode, we discuss:Why simplicity is so important when coaching golfThe biggest mistakes club golfers makeWhat separates elite players from the average golferBuilding confidence and improving performance on the golf coursePractice habits that actually lead to improvementLessons learned from coaching beginners through to elite playersWe also dive into Michael's incredible personal story. Over the past decade, Michael has battled T-LGL Leukemia, and just 12 months ago was diagnosed with stomach cancer that rapidly progressed to Stage 4. After intensive chemotherapy, immunotherapy, and major surgery that saw his entire stomach and part of his bowel removed, Michael is now cancer-free and in remission. His story is one of resilience, perspective, gratitude, and determination. Michael shares the challenges he faced, the mindset that carried him through the toughest moments of his life, and how the experience has changed the way he approaches golf, coaching, and life itself. This is a powerful conversation about golf, adversity, and finding purpose through life's biggest challenges.
Wednesday Wisdom: "Swing Your Swing" – The Most Misunderstood Advice in Golf. One of the most common phrases you'll hear in golf is, "Just swing your swing."And to a point, I understand what people mean. When you look at the best players in the world, not everybody swings the club the same way. Jim Furyk, Matthew Wolff, Bubba Watson, Scottie Scheffler – they all have movements that look unique. But here's what most golfers miss...Those players have spent decades building those swings. They've hit millions of golf balls. They've learned exactly how to time those movements and make them repeatable under pressure. The average golfer doesn't have that luxury. Most golfers work 40 or 50 hours a week. They might get to the range once or twice and play on the weekend. They simply don't have 100 hours every week to perfect compensations and unusual movement patterns. That's why I don't fully agree with the advice of "just swing your swing."For most golfers, the goal shouldn't be to make a flawed motion work. The goal should be to build a motion that requires less timing, less compensation, and less practice to produce a reasonable result.Good golf swings aren't necessarily about looking pretty. They're about putting the club in functional positions often enough that when you arrive at the first tee on Saturday morning, you've got a chance.Because enjoyment comes from hitting some decent shots. It comes from seeing the ball fly roughly where you intended. It comes from not standing over every shot wondering whether today's timing is going to show up.Tour players can get away with unusual movements because they've invested years into owning them. Most amateurs are far better served by developing sound fundamentals.Better grip.Better setup.Better clubface control.Better impact conditions. Those things don't make golf easy, but they make golf more predictable. And for most golfers, predictable golf is enjoyable golf.So instead of "swing your swing," maybe the better advice is:Build a swing that works when life gets busy.Build a swing that still functions after a long week at work.Build a swing that doesn't require perfect timing. Build a swing that lets you enjoy the game more often.Because at the end of the day, that's what most golfers are really chasing.Training Aids & Discount CodesBack 2 Basics Putting – Use the code YGP10 for 10% off or Click Here for 10% offDivot Board –Use the code YGP for 10% off or Click here for 10% off Strike Wedge – Click Here for 15% off Ryp Golf Speed Training – use the code YGP at check out for 10% off! Aron Price: PGA Tour Life, Identity Beyond Golf & A Second Shot at the U.S. Open What happens when your dream comes true… and then it ends? This week on the Your Golf Performance Podcast, Brent sits down with former PGA Tour player Aron Price to discuss the highs and lows of professional golf, the challenge of building an identity beyond the game, and his incredible journey from the PGA Tour to a successful career in real estate. Aron opens up about the pressure of elite competition, how results can become tied to self-worth, dealing with imposter syndrome, and the difficult transition many professional athletes face when their playing career changes direction. The timing couldn't be better. After advancing through the first stage of U.S. Open qualifying, Aron is now just one step away from earning a spot in one of golf's biggest championships. We explore what it's like chasing that dream again, this time with a completely different perspective on life, golf, and success. A powerful conversation about resilience, identity, perspective, and finding purpose both inside and outside the ropes.
In this Wednesday Wisdom episode, I dive into one of the biggest separators between average golfers and players who actually improve long term — investing in yourself.I reference LIV Golf winner Lucas Herbert and how, after earning one of his first big paydays in professional golf, he immediately reinvested into his career by surrounding himself with the right team: coaches, physios, fitness trainers, and mental performance support.Too many golfers say they want to improve, yet they continue to guess their way through practice, avoid the uncomfortable work, and spend more time doing what feels good instead of what actually moves the needle. In this episode, I talk about:Why the best players in the world treat golf like a performance lifestylePlanning practice with purpose instead of just beating ballsGolf-specific gym work and recoveryNutrition and hydration habits that impact performanceThe value of coaching and understanding that improvement isn't always instantWhy working on weaknesses matters more than feeding your egoIf golf is your main passion, hobby, or dream — start acting like the players you admire. In this week's Wednesday Wisdom, Brent dives into a simple shift that can completely change how you view your own golf… Stop following the PGA Tour — and start following a player. When you watch the PGA Tour highlights, you're seeing the absolute best of the best, at their absolute best. Flagsticks getting attacked, putts dropping from everywhere, and scorecards that look almost unrealistic. But that's not real golf. In this episode, Brent explains why following an individual player gives you a far more accurate picture of what the game actually looks like — the ups, the downs, the missed cuts, the bounce-backs, and the grind in between. Because the reality is:Even the best players in the world have bad weeks. And understanding that might just be the thing that helps you stay patient, manage your expectations, and improve faster.Training Aids & Discount CodesBack 2 Basics Putting – Use the code YGP10 for 10% off or Click Here for 10% offDivot Board –Use the code YGP for 10% off or Click here for 10% off Strike Wedge – Click Here for 15% off Ryp Golf Speed Training – use the code YGP at check out for 10% off! Brent sits down with rising Australian star Raegan Denton to unpack one of the most exciting junior-to-elite journeys in golf right now. Growing up in the small coastal town of Coffin Bay, Raegan didn't follow the typical pathway. With limited options around her, she picked up a golf club alongside her brother — and what started as something to do quickly turned into something much bigger. In this episode, Raegan shares when she first fell in love with the game, the moment she realised she could compete with the best, and the practice habits that have helped her rise to the top of Australian amateur golf. She also opens up about her experience competing on one of the biggest stages in the game, how she stays calm under pressure, and why she doesn't feel the need to constantly watch golf to improve. Brent and Raegan dive into:The early years and getting hooked on golfPractice habits that actually move the needleThe role of gym work and physical developmentCompeting at the highest level as a juniorMindset, expectations, and staying composed under pressureHer move to LSU and future goals in the gameAdvice for junior golfers and parentsThis is a must-listen for anyone serious about improving — or understanding what it really takes to become one of the best.Training Aids & Discount CodesBack 2 Basics Putting – Use the code YGP10 for 10% off or Click Here for 10% offDivot Board –Use the code YGP for 10% off or Click here for 10% off Strike Wedge – Click Here for 15% off Ryp Golf Speed Training – use the code YGP at check out for 10% off!
