Today my guest is Curtis Yarvin. According to Wikipedia: “Curtis Guy Yarvin (born 1973), also known by the pen name Mencius Moldbug, is an American far-right blogger.[4][5] Yarvin and his ideas are often associated with the alt-right, despite his and the efforts of other Dark Enlightenment thinkers to distance themselves from it.[6][7] From 2007 to 2014 he authored a blog called "Unqualified Reservations" which argued that American democracy is a failed experiment,[8] and that it should be replaced by monarchy or corporate governance.[9] He is known, along with fellow neo-reactionary Nick Land, for developing the anti-egalitarian and anti-democratic ideas behind the Dark Enlightenment.”I decided to speak with Curtis to suss out his darkness for myself. Today my guest is hardcore crypto tantric engineer Vinay Gupta.I first heard Vinay on a podcast a few years ago speaking about enlightenment and saving the world with Bucky Fuller style innovation and inspiration. His approach seemed radically applied and pragmatic - with intense spiritual practice comes real moral responsibility. This is antithetical to a lot of the philosophically inept and castrated New Age thought we see today in the Spiritual Marketplace. What does it mean to take this work seriously? This is (fortunately) a sprawling conversation. We start by discussing the prophetic nature of certain special science fiction authors, emotional processing in spiritual practice, empathy disorders, save-the-world psychology, uncanny valleys in tech, and how to make sense of our current moment as a bunch of confused monkeys.I hope you get as much from this conversation as I did.Links:Books mentioned: Christ was an Ad Man & Shockwave RiderFollow Vinay on TwitterFollw me on TwitterCheck out other podcasts and livestreams on my YouTube channelEnjoy the show? I reached out to Erik after reading his latest book “High Weirdness” - an exploration of the emergence of a new psychedelic spirituality in the work of Philip K. Amidst all of the big changes and uncertainty we're experiencing in the world today, we can come to all kinds of conclusions about what it all means and how we fit into the picture. One common story we hear from well-intentioned activists fighting against wealth inequality and climate change: the accumulation of wealth is evil. The rich are destroying the planet. The 1% meme has even held some ground since the days of Occupy Wall Street, taken up as a rallying cry by Democratic Socialists. I wonder if there's another story.Speaking for myself, I have all kinds of twisted narratives around money. I need to be making enough to feel worthy and attract a mate. If I'm not providing, I have no value. Wealth accumulation is for the greedy and I'm not so I'll do my best to avoid it, etc. Today (for my first livestream!) my guest is Jordan Hall. Jordan has made the rounds on various podcasts and YouTube channels discussing a wide range of things, namely the idea of cultivating sovereignty as a necessary step in the path to becoming a more effective agent in the world. Before he started studying complexity at The Santa Fe Institute and writing posts on Medium about our failing institutions, Jordan was a highly successful tech entrepreneur. Jordan's wealth gave him the freedom to enter rooms and ask questions that would have been unthinkable had he been working a traditional 9-5. What is money? How do we rid ourselves of unhelpful, debilitating stories our wealth? Is it possible to ethically create wealth in the current climate? Join us for what is sure to be a mind-bending, heart-opening conversation.Part 2 is audio from the YouTube livestream. Are you enjoying this podcast? Please subscribe and leave a review on Apple Podcasts.Go check out the YouTube page and subscribe for updates. Please consider becoming a Patron.

Today my guest is Stephen Jenkinson.Stephen is a teacher, author, storyteller, spiritual activist, farmer and founder of the Orphan Wisdom School, a teaching house and learning house for the skills of deep living and making human culture. It is rooted in knowing history, being claimed by ancestry, working for a time yet to come.Stephen worked for many years in the “death trade”, helping people come to terms with their illnesses in a culture that has no real relationship with the death and dying process. He is a trained Harvard theologian and writes urgently and eloquently about how to create culture that relates to the cycles of life and death (Die Wise). His latest book, Come of Age, grapples with the paradox of elderhood in North America: “we are awash in the aged and yet somehow lacking in wisdom; we relegate senior citizens to the corner of the house while simultaneously heralding them as sage elders simply by virtue of their age.”Stephen is currently on the Nights of Grief and Mystery Tour.Find out if he’s in your town. Today my guests are Mike Gilliland and Euvie Ivanova from The Future Thinkers podcast.I first discovered their them around five years ago and was blown away by their creativity, insatiable curiosity, and entrepreneurial spirit. They were two young married digital nomads talking about psychedelics, technology, and whatever other cutting edge insights came across their radar. What started off as recorded conversations over the breakfast table, futurethinkers.org has grown into a dynamic online community, a podcast with over 3.5 million downloads, and new online course offerings. We discuss the early years of their podcast, balancing life together as married business partners, digital nomadism, and finding freedom in a world on the edge.Show Notes:Check out their new courses in Personal Evolution.Follow them on Twitter: (@euvieivanova) (@MikeGilliland) (@FutureThinkers_)
Today my guest is Daniel Jeffries.Dan was one of the first grown ups I discovered when I first entered the moon-crazed juvenile world of cryptocurrency. Dan is a popular writer, having published science fiction novels and numerous viral Medium articles including Way of the Spiritual Warrior, Surviving Crypto Winter, and Rick and Morty and the Meaning of Life.I wasn’t interested in talking to Dan about Bitcoin (though I’ve listened to him talk eloquently about crypto on many podcasts). I wanted to hear Dan’s story. What’s his approach to spirituality? What has he learned on his path to becoming a “B-list Crypto Celebrity” (his words) and a digital nomad who travels all over the world writing and giving impromptu speeches at giant conferences about the rise of AI?This conversation did not disappoint. Dan offers humor, wisdom, and a no-bullshit attitude toward designing a meaningful existence. Today my guest is Tasshin Fogleman.I found Tasshin on Twitter (which continues to prove itself a goldmine for interesting, open-hearted podcast guests). I was following an inquiry around Monastic practice. I trained at Dai Bosatsu Zendo for a summer in 2017 but wanted to find an organization that felt more integrated with the modern world. I stumbled across The Monastic Academy based in Lowell, VT and started discovering exciting voices coming from this rural VT community (see Daniel Thorson’s Emerge podcast).Tasshin is the Assistant Director at The Monastic Academy. I connected with him to discuss his path, how he discovered The Monastic Academy, and what is it they’re doing. How is monastic training relevant to the modern person? Should training be somehow different because it’s 2019 and shit is uniquely crazy? Tasshin and I explore toxic individualism, healthy ego development/practice, and how The Monastic Academy aims to address the current cultural crisis. In 2018, Tasshin took bodhisattva vows with Shinzen Young and Soryu Forall, and received the name Tasshin, 達真. 達 means to “reach,” “arrive at,” “achieve,” or “touch.” 真 means “truth” or “authenticity.” Most people pronounce this with the Americanized pronunciation, which sounds like the English words “toss shin.”Show Notes:Follow Tasshin (@tasshinfogleman) on TwitterSee what The Monastic Academy is up to.Read Miles Bukiet’s paper “Monasteries of the Future”
This week my guest is Jennifer Gresham.Jennifer Gresham has helped hundreds of people around the world find greater fulfillment and financial success as a high performance coach and business strategist. Indeed, building a future of work that serves us under these dynamic conditions will require nearly everyone’s contribution.Prior to her coaching, Gresham spent 16 years in the U.S. Air Force as a scientist and an officer. She is the former Assistant Chief Scientist of the Human Performance Wing for the Air Force Research Laboratory, where she helped lead a $100M research portfolio spanning the fields of biology, psychology, and technology.During her military career, she also taught college chemistry, served as a program manager for the Surface & Interfacial Science and Biophysical Mechanisms programs at the Air Force Office of Scientific Research, and led Corporate Communications for the Air Force Research Laboratory.Gresham is a graduate of the U.S. Air Force Academy and received her Ph.D. in biochemistry from the University of Maryland. This week, my guest is Peter Limberg. I found Peter on Twitter. Turns out, Twitter is actually a rose garden if you know where to look.Peter (and co-author Conor Barnes) published a piece on Medium last September called “The Memetic Tribes of Culture War 2.0.” They do an excellent job placing us in this moment of history- where the “Left/Right” binary is far too simplistic in understanding the competing cultural forces at play.Conor and Peter help distill the reality maps for these different tribes as they would articulate them. This feels like a giant accomplishment in the task of making sense of our current moment. Or at least helps us proceed with a little more empathy? We talk about the OG Culture War, how it ended, the nature of memetic tribes, and how to approach the daunting task of sitting with Uncertainty. This week, I am with mental health expert, entrepreneur, and life coach Taylor Wilkins. Drawing on a decade of experience in crisis mental health treatment, Taylor is devoted to helping people shed the limiting beliefs and identities to which we attach that are holding us back from the life we want. Through his company, The Tailored Quill, Taylor provides a proven system that intensively offers life-changing self-awareness confidence to rewrite the stories we tell ourselves in which we trap ourselves and strategies to make more informed decisions to design a fulfilling future. Taylor's system teaches us how to relieve our deepest stress and build lasting self-confidence. Taylor's business is built on the concept that, though all of life and business are a game, human beings attach the heavy meaning to the game that makes it a competition. As a result, the added pressure for a winner / loser and success / failure create a huge amount of unnecessary stress. The heightened stress feels so big that people fall into the trap of comparing themselves to others, which destroys their self-confidence and secretly convinces them that they are "not good enough" for the life that they want. A game is supposed to be fun. Let's take the stress away and have some fun. Oh, and her role on the reality TV show “Big Brother.” Apparently she’s the first scientist to do reality TV? Get it, Dr. Ross.
This episode is a live recording of the ZION2.0 launch party. I play some silly music, give a brief history of how the podcast came about, and settle in for an expansive conversation with Thomas McConkie. Thomas is a Salt Lake City native with deep wisdom to share. He tells his story on leaving the Mormon church at an early age, moving to China to study Buddhism, and eventually returning to Salt Lake to launch Lower Lights Sangha, a non profit that teaches mindfulness, meditation, and developmental psychology to curious seekers. Thomas offers us a window into what the future of religion could look like- organizations that celebrate the wholeness of all human beings, regardless of where they stand in their own development. While his context deals with Mormonism, this conversation is relevant for anyone who has ever felt exiled from family, culture, society, or religion.
This week I am with the lovely Zach Schlosser. Zach studied religion at Brown, launched an online school, and writes for a variety of publications about the future. This week I sit down with Caitlin Kinnunen, star of the new Broadway musical “The Prom.” Caitlin Kinnunen is a talented performer living in New York City with a very cool story. She was home schooled on a small island in Washington state, booked her first Broadway gig when she was 16, and moved to NYC. Caitlin and I reflect on our history together, discuss how to grapple with anxiety and depression, and how her own spirituality has grown and developed. She is just the best. Check her out on Instagram: @caitlin.kinnunen.
This week I sit down with a talented healer and shamanic practitioner. Jonathan is a former actor turned bad ass medicine man. He lives in and runs a practice out of Manhattan. We talk show business, visions in Hawaii, and what it takes to tap into the creative force of nature. Strap in baby, you’re going to like this one. You can learn more about Jonathan and his work at mindbodyspiritnyc.com.
This week I sit down with an advanced spiritual being hailing from Fargo, North Dakota. John Ford-Dunker is an actor, musician, Christian, and a very good friend. He packs a heavy punch. We talk social media, religion, and why we can’t change anyone but ourselves. I hope you have a mirror while you listen to this episode. Get ready for some deep sea soul diving. The new intro music? After discovering his beautiful Instagram, I reached out to an old high school friend. We hadn’t spoken in around 6 or 7 years. This is us catching up. Alex Dickinson is a copywriter, competitive runner, yoga teacher, and an all around lovely person. We discuss the advertising industry, why you should travel to Oaxaca, Mexico, relationships with moms, and why you should not put your leg over your head on the dance floor. Enjoy lovelies!
I sit down this week with a seriously bad ass woman. Jane is a psychoanalyst, holistic health practitioner, business owner, and a serious integral thinker. We talk New Orleans Jews, Freud’s couch, and the fact that your SKIN is an EYE. Buckle up babes.
In this, the inaugural episode of ZION2.0, I sit down with one who shareth my name. Colin has amazing ideas. About building new technology to serve real communities, about how Christianity can evolve to fit modern people. He runs the Brooklyn Psychedelic Society which is actually way more legit than a bunch of people buying drugs. The society aims “to cultivate a community-wide conversation about psychedelics that will ultimately shape the inevitable post-prohibition world.”Climb aboard, explorers.
