Alongside co-author Jan Söderqvist, Bard has written multiple influential books, such as The Futurica Trilogy (including The Netocrats and The Body Machines), Syntheism - Creating God in the Internet Age, and Digital Libido: Sex, Power and Violence in the Network Society. These works delve into how the internet and digitalization shape societal structures, human behavior, and even spirituality. His newest book, Process and Event (2024), rounds off a 25-year philosophical exploration by Bard and Söderqvist and completes their "Narratology" trilogy. This book builds on previous themes, proposing that technology and spirituality are converging as humanity's search for meaning evolves, possibly birthing a new form of digital divinity. Bard and Söderqvist examine historical and cultural shifts leading to an age where AI and technology serve as humanity's next evolutionary leap, merging modern science, mysticism, and a radical rethinking of historical Western ideas.

About the Strange Attractor Series In the last couple of years, we have witnessed the emergence of different meta-models, theories, and future visions which try to go beyond the worldview of postmodernism: a strange attractor that seems to run on new and exciting algorithms. But what—if anything—do all of these models and movements have in common? Is there a shared deep-structure that is expressing itself, not only in new and more complex ways of thinking and cognition, but also in geopolitics, science, industry, religion, ecology, sexuality, parenting, culture, technology, architecture, the arts—and in every other area of contemporary life. Is there a strange attractor that emerges after postmodernity? What are its shape and characteristics? What new and exciting vistas and opportunities do these new vistas open up for us? Can they contribute to solving the existential problems of the current meta-crisis? What are the moral and ethical injunctions that we could infer from the present emergence of these meta-tribes. In this Roundtable-series - hosted by PARALLAX - we invite a multitude of ‘post-postmodern' pioneer—thinkers, psychologists, sociologists, philosophers, educators, economists, and artists—to have an interdisciplinary discussion about the essence of Post-Postmodernity – given there is such a thing. More precisely, this podcast-series is an experiment which seeks to find out whether these movements and models after Postmodernity have something in common. Can these movements leave their respective bubbles and contribute something essential to the development of the world we live in? That is our primary question. --- Send in a voice message: https://anchor.fm/podcast-c709ee4/message

After listening to Alex Ebert's fantastic presentation ‘Dead Cool' at the Stoa we thought we would invite Alex, who like Alexander Bard, is a pop star turned philosopher for a discussion on ‘The Philosophy of Cool'. What is cool in the age of attentionalism? What is fake cool and what is real cool? How is cool related to Réne Girard's theories of mimetic desire. A conversation where media artist and scholar Orsolya Bajusz tells her story about how as an activist she was attacked and scapegoated by a social justice lynch mob and how she won the war against mass psychosis and authoritarianism. A critique of woke culture and political correctness and how to live in a post woke future. Orsolya Bajusz concludes by telling us: ‘Don't be a doormat, don't be a pillar saint!'. Here is the summary of Orsolya Bajusz's story http://akulturharcontul.blogspot.com/2019/12/my-story-has-begun-in-enlightened-west.html Bio: Orsolya Bajusz is based in Budapest. Besides soon defending her Ph.D at the Sociology Department of Corvinus University of Budapest and teaching there, she produces work across multiple platforms, preferring to work in collaboration, networked practices or anonymously. Her Ph.D explores the role of the affective and visual registers in contemporary public debates and controversies around biotechnology, and thus exploring how posthuman praxes clash with the existing cultural imaginary, and she is working on developing a methodological framework to analyse the intersection of science communication and contemporary art. Her first book (a theory fiction) is under publishing. A description of the 9 vehicles of Buddhism including Tantra, comparing the Tantric approach with Western ‘eventological’ religion and Zoroastrianism. Note: This talk is shorter than usual because the depth of this topic requires at least 3 more talks, and this might be easier to digest. But it is still full of our usual mischievous fun and interruption of the banal. Sweeny vs Bard S03E10: Western Tantra? - with Thomas Hamelryck Can Tantra flourish in western society that is predominantly Christian and Moslem? What are the historical roots of Tantra? Is Tantra a religion? Is Tantra sexual technique or a spiritual practice? A wide ranging discussion on all things Tantra, from Vajrayana Buddhist tantra to neo Tantra. A boisterous conversation that Alexander says is the best one we have had yet. (And Thomas H assures us that he is pretty indifferent to the 80’s synth band Depeche Mode. You be the judge). Clinton Ignatov is a Mcluhan scholar and has a labyrinthine mind like an eccentric Renaissance alchemist. He has a great YouTube channel called ‘Concerned Netizen’ where he goes into the weeds of this great Canadian scholar who discovered ‘The global village’ and then later renamed it ‘The global theater’. Alexander Bard’s philosophy is also aimed at, among other things, trying to understand Mcluhanism for the internet age, and contains the same challenging prophetic urgency, which is never moralistic. A heated and passionate discussion about our usual topics: Process and Event in relation to sex and religion. Christianity, Buddhism, Judaism and Zoroastrianism - popular sutric religion and behind the ‘barred absolute’. The place of sex and violence in ritual. And so much more. Our first conversation with Cadell Last, an extraordinary new voice on the scene whose beard at least competes with Alexander’s, and who has written a great new book called Sex, God and Masculinity. We talked about a lot of things including Freudian psychoanalysis and socio-analysis, a defense of Freud and Hegel, the phallus and the fake phallus, exodology, and many themes familiar to this podcast. We talked about Alexander’s proposed Pro-topia, a world beyond the barred absolute and of creativity undreamed of. But also of the ‘rites of passage’ that the society will have to endure before we get there. Bio: Cadell Last is an anthropologist, philosopher and therapist focused on biocultural evolution, mind-matter relation and future speculations. He earned his PhD in interdisciplinary and complexity studies at the Evolution, Cognition and Complexity group at the Vrije Universiteit Brussel. He is also the author of over a dozen academic publications and two books: Global Brain Singularity and Sex, Masculinity, God; as well as over a dozen academic publications. A new season of Sweeny vs Bard with our now regular guest Thomas Hamelryck. In this discussion Alexander brings up the subject of forgiveness and ties this to the heroic principle and capitalist innovation with its ‘fail harder and try again’. We look at vulgar notions of karma within pagan cultures and more sophisticated notions in Buddhism and how forgiveness helps us to go beyond karma and the ‘eternal return of the same’. We talk about our usual suspects: Girard, Nietzsche, Whitehead, Hegel (and for me Trungpa). And we talk about the need for sex education, alchemy, and the barred absolute in religion. And we also discover what Alexander Bard eats for breakfast (Hegel of course). Enjoy. The final episode in Season 2 of Sweeny vs Bard with our now regular guest Thomas Hamelryck. We go further in the discussion of the anoject, the scapegoat, and the martyr with reference to our usual suspects: Girard, Nietzsche, Whitehead, Hegel, Spinoza, Kant, Longchenpa and others. Alexander introduces more concepts from his forthcoming book ‘Process and Event’ including the hyperject and paradigmatic embryonism. Our latest discussion with Thomas Hamelryck, in which Alexander introduces his concept: The Anoject - a neologism he invented which means, roughly speaking, the anonymous accuser. We expand on this subject but also speak about the messiah, the martyr and the saint,, fields of potential beyond spacetime, quantum organics, the 3 kayas of buddhism, the death of celebrity culture, higher and lover gods, heresy, crazy wisdom, and Antagony—among other thing. Thomas Hamelryck is a scientist who uses AI to solve problems in bioinformatics and molecular biology. For philosophical and religious questions, he turns to the process metaphysics of Alfred North Whitehead, the mimetic theory and Christian theology of Rene Girard, the Dionysian philosophy of Friedrich Nietzsche, and the practices of Sutric and Tantric Buddhism. A long awaited conversation between my favorite interlocutors, and two philosophical and visionary geniuses of our time—who, as I mention in the beginning—are opposite character types. Nevertheless, both men converge on certain views. Alexander is an aggressive provocateur with an amazing palate of ideas (the Camille Paglia of Sweden), and John is outrageously humble Canadian professor with an equally ambitious project. Alexander lays out his religious history of the silk route triad, talks about Zoroastrianism, Heraclates, and the monist world view. John speaks about the monism of Plotinus and defends neo-platonism. We speak about the meaning of pathos, mythos, and logos—and the pathic nature of art. And so much much more. John Vervaeke is a professor at the University of Toronto and the creator of the popular online YouTube Series ‘Awakening from The Meaning Crisis’, which is a rich feast of cognitive science, philosophy, religion, and the history of ideas. What makes Vervaeke special in my opinion is the breadth of his work, but his courage descend the ivory tower and talk to people ‘on the street’—and to exemplify his ideas. His hero is Socrates, and he embodies the living dialogue and courage that Socrates represents. How did an obscure esoteric school begun by the French writer and sufi René Guénon and his fascist disciple Julius Evola at the beginning of the 20th begin to influence geopolitics, and especially the works of Steve Bannon, Alexander Dugin, and Olavo de Carvalho? We discuss this with Benjamin R Teitelbaum, author of a great new page turner called “War for Eternity: Inside Bannon's Far-Right Circle of Global Power Brokers.” And we go into depth, especially about Steven Bannon and the alt right who Benjamin has interviewed a lot, and this complex figure especially with reference to his traditionalism, his fatalistic view of the Kali Yuga, and what the neo traditionalists are up to precisely. This episode covers tantra which is a very elastic term from the east meaning—more or less— certain kinds spiritual practices that originated in India. We also discuss neo-tantra which was Osho's term for sexual/somatic exercises to liberate the sexually repressed, and we talk about why the Osho cult got so corrupt. Bard says that real Tantra is more about the 'adultification' of the world than instant gratification. Part of what we are up to, says Alexander Bard, is to retake words that can no longer be spoken. First we retake God, then we retake Religion, and then .... communism? In the eve of the upcoming debate between Slavoj Žižek and Jordan Peterson Bard (Capitalism vs Marxism) Bard explains to me why a utopian vision is necessary for the future age which he thinks will have to communistic or perish.
