Frank welcomes back occult researcher and Illuminati Watcher founder Isaac Weishaupt for the first time in two years to break down the most coordinated predictive programming rollout we have seen yet. The final trailer for Steven Spielberg's "Disclosure" just dropped, and Isaac argues Spielberg is the king of subconscious programming, hired specifically to walk the public into accepting the alien origin story right as the White House activates aliens.gov and the Department of War begins releasing files. The conversation goes deep. Isaac shares his late nineties ghost hunting story that drove him into Orthodox Christianity and the conclusion that the phenomenon is angels and demons, not little gray men. They cover Jordy Rose summoning Lovecraftian entities through quantum computing, Rudolf Steiner's century-old prediction that vaccines would inoculate the soul, and the CCRU collective whose member Nick Land claims he made contact with entities from the future who use capitalism to manifest AI. From there it is Curtis Yarvin, Peter Thiel's Antichrist lectures, and the 23andMe CIA Nordic bloodline hunt. Then Frank closes with the White House Harambe tweet at ten years, meme magic in 2016, and a Robert Frost parody from John Ward to send everyone off.

Gregg is an independent researcher, writer and music producer from the UK who focuses on esotericism and occultism alongside media and literature theory, cyberculture, fictioning, and non-standard philosophy. He graduated an MA in Spirituality and Religion from University of Amsterdam in 2025 and is currently working on expanding his thesis research into a PhD project. In this episode, Gregg peels back the layers of the Cybernetic Culture Research Unit, or CCRU, a group that stands as one of the most unique and enigmatic forms of modern occultism.  Using a "matryoshka doll" methodology, we look briefly at the core members of the group, and then explore the CCRU as a collective myth and an independent entity. We'll trace their origins from the intellectual split between Sadie Plant's cyberfeminism and Nick Land's "dark" inhumanism, fueled by the rhythmic, non-linear influences of the 1990s jungle dance scene. We discuss "Time Sorcery," the Numogram, and the mechanics of hyperstition—the process by which fictions "make themselves real" through cybernetic feedback loops to reshape our present reality.  To explain this concept a bit further, the core of Gregg's thesis focuses on "Hyperstition as the idea of fictions that make themselves real by functioning as "time-circuits" or self-fulfilling prophecies. Gregg illustrates how the CCRU's use of "theory-fiction" was not merely a literary style, but a deliberate "writing magic" designed to bypass rational thought and manifest "inhuman" entities or future outcomes into the present. Ultimately, the work positions the CCRU as a unique bridge between 20th-century esoteric practices (like Chaos Magic) and the digital-age occultism of the 21st century, suggesting that the group's influence persists today as a collective entity or "egregore" that continues to shape contemporary culture and philosophy.  For Patreon and YouTube members, we dive even deeper into the controversial legacy of Nick Land in Part 2, re-evaluating him not just as a philosopher, but as an experimental occultist who used extreme methods to achieve ego-dissolution. We also tackle the complex evolution of accelerationism, tracing the pipeline from CCRU-era theories to the intellectual foundations of the Alt-Right and the modern phenomenon of "Meme Magic." However, we also explore the alternative, hopeful sides of these "weird" tools—examining Left-Accelerationism, and Mark Fisher's "Acid Communism" to see how these theories can be used to reclaim lost futures and foster collective hope.  PROGRAM NOTESGregg Harmston - University of AmsterdamInstagramCcru: Writings 1997-2003Cybernetic Culture Research Unit - MonoskopRowan Elizabeth Cabrales - University of AmsterdamRR Podcast E4 P1 Rowan E. Episode #547: Dead Forests and Living Networks: Why the Future of Knowledge Looks Like Fungi, Not Filing Cabinets

Crazy Wisdom

Play Episode Listen Later May 18, 2026 58:50

In this episode of the Crazy Wisdom Podcast, host Stewart Alsop sits down with Joshua Bate, founder of Bonfires.ai and DeciWorld, for a wide-ranging conversation covering knowledge management, graph technology, ontologies, decentralized science, and the future of how humans organize and share information. They break down the differences between personal and enterprise knowledge management, explore why flat ontological graphs may be the key to making diverse knowledge bases interoperable, and get into why traditional RAG systems break down at scale and how graph RAG offers a more principled solution. The conversation expands into the philosophy of categorization, the slow death of basic "gentleman science" under institutional pressures, and how decentralized protocols might restore a kind of mycelial knowledge network connecting small groups of researchers, enthusiasts, and communities — much like the original spirit of the encyclopedia before it was co-opted by institutions. You can learn more about Joshua's work at bonfires.ai and deci.world or follow him on X at @Bonfiresai and @DeSciWorld.Timestamps00:00 - Stewart introduces Joshua Bate, founder of Bonfires.ai, discussing personal versus enterprise knowledge management and their fundamental differences at scale.05:00 - Joshua explains ontologies as classifiers for knowledge structures, describing their two-year search for a perfect ontology and ultimately building a flat, ontology-less graph protocol.10:00 - Stewart connects categorization to shamanic practice and intercategorical theory, noting how major companies like Netflix and Yahoo built graph-based ontologies while the discipline remains underappreciated philosophically.15:00 - Joshua traces Bonfires origins through decentralized science, explaining how NFT community excitement inspired redirecting capital toward funding unconventional researchers locked out of institutional systems.20:00 - Joshua describes building federated knowledge networks through hackathons and conferences, comparing the vision to what Wikipedia could have been with decentralized incentive structures.25:00 - Discussion shifts toward inevitable collapse of rigid scientific institutions, debating patchwork age theory, nation-state fragmentation, and rhizomatic versus arboreal knowledge structures.30:00 - Joshua articulates the mycelial network vision, enabling direct cross-cultural information access where individuals control their own narrative lens, warning against collective we thinking and authoritarianism.Key Insights1. Knowledge management exists on a spectrum from personal to enterprise, but the founder of Bonfires argues this split is artificial. He believes knowledge itself does not respect those boundaries, and that small groups, researchers, hobbyists, and large institutions all possess knowledge that can and should interoperate with each other.2. After two and a half years of searching for the perfect ontology to structure their knowledge graph, the team concluded that no perfect ontology exists. Their solution was to build the flattest possible graph structure with only events, entities, and edges, creating a base layer others can build specialized ontologies on top of.3. Graph-based knowledge systems are more efficient than traditional databases for AI traversal because once a graph is computed, it is relatively free to query. Graph RAG combines the discovery power of vector search with the structured precision of graph traversal, solving many hallucination problems associated with standard retrieval augmented generation.4. Basic scientific research, the soil from which applied discoveries grow, is deteriorating because institutional funding structures only reward commercially viable outcomes. The founder built his platform partly to redirect community-driven capital toward researchers who are doing important work without institutional support.5. The institutionalization of science has historically blocked the open exchange of ideas that drove the original scientific revolution. The human spirit for open inquiry has not changed, but people cannot pursue it without financial support, and building decentralized infrastructure could restore that possibility.6. A federated knowledge network would allow individuals to access information from any contributor and filter it through their own preferred lens, rather than receiving information pre-filtered by centralized platforms. This represents a form of information symmetry similar to how mycelial networks distribute nutrients across a forest.7. The concern is not whether current scientific and governmental institutions will change but in what direction the rebuilding goes. Those capitalizing on the transition carry the same incentives as the previous era, which risks reproducing the same problems inside new structures.

Stewart Alsop sits down with Karol, a 3D generalist and digital artist with 25 years of experience, to talk about the evolving landscape of 3D art — from sculpting in ZBrush to the deep technical rabbit hole of Houdini, and how AI tools like Claude are quietly reshaping creative workflows. The conversation wanders into bigger territory: the singularity, accelerationism, the philosophical roots of Silicon Valley's techno-anxiety (including the Roko's Basilisk thought experiment and the writings of Nick Land), the slow unraveling of Hollywood's cultural monopoly, and what decentralized creative tools mean for independent artists. Stewart also points Karol toward the work of Fei-Fei Li and World Labs as a window into where 3D world modeling is heading next.Timestamps00:00 — Karol's 25-year journey from Photoshop and 2D art into Cinema 4D and the world of 3D.05:00 — Why Houdini blew the ceiling off every other 3D program, and how node-based coding changed Karol's creative process entirely.10:00 — The tension between visual thinking and technical thinking, and how constant digital stimuli has degraded Karol's internal imagination.15:00 — Stewart reflects on Claude Code and how AI is about to dissolve the technical barriers in Houdini the same way it did for programming.20:00 — The Sphere in Las Vegas, projection mapping, drone polo, and Stewart's vision for intimate tech-integrated experiences.25:00 — Roko's Basilisk, fear-driven accelerationism, and why Latin America never caught the Silicon Valley doomsday bug.30:00 — Hollywood's cultural machine, shared Western boogeymen, and how decentralized 3D art is replacing the $100M production monopoly.35:00 — Karol's eclectic client roster: Utah Jazz, Apple, League of Legends, and a Buddhist temple in Los Angeles.40:00 — Gaussian splatting, photogrammetry, point clouds, and where world models are taking 3D next.45:00 — The freelance vs. studio dilemma, brutal VFX industry crunch culture, and Stewart's plan to own his entire podcast stack.50:00 — Poland's economic rise, the hollowing out of the Netherlands, and capitalism as an endless infection with no clear cure.Key InsightsHoudini as creative rebirth. After nearly burning out on conventional 3D software, Karol discovered that Houdini's node-based, code-driven architecture gave him something the other tools never could — a blank canvas with no ceiling. Rather than navigating a boat someone else built, he now builds the boat from scratch every time, which keeps the work perpetually challenging and alive.Visual thinking is under attack. Karol noticed his once-vivid internal imagination quietly degrading over the years, and traces it directly to the overwhelming volume of digital stimuli in modern life. His response has been aggressive minimalism — stripping back inputs, physical and digital, to try to recover the creative mental space he once had naturally.AI as a technical collaborator, not a replacement. Karol uses Claude daily, not to generate imagery, but to work through coding problems inside Houdini. He's clear that image generation is his job — what AI earns its place doing is explaining unfamiliar code and helping him push past technical blockers faster. The freelance paradox. Twenty-five years of independence has meant total creative freedom alongside real financial instability — months of silence followed by weeks of 16-hour days. Karol has never resolved this tension, but holds onto the freedom anyway, and sees it as increasingly important as surveillance and corporate control tighten.Roko's Basilisk explains Silicon Valley. Both Stewart and Karol land on the idea that the feverish, fear-driven energy behind tech accelerationism may trace back to this single thought experiment — the notion that if you don't help build the AI, it will punish you retroactively. Latin America, blissfully unaware of it, seems measurably calmer.Decentralization is ending Hollywood's monopoly. The same forces making software cheaper and AI more powerful are quietly dismantling the $100M barrier to cultural creation. Karol's career — spanning album covers, Apple, the Utah Jazz, and a Buddhist temple — is a living proof of concept for what independent 3D generalism can look like outside the studio machine.Owning your tools is a political act. Whether it's Karol resisting the pigeonhole of VFX studios or Stewart rebuilding his podcast infrastructure from scratch, both see the ability to own and control your own software and hardware as essential preparation for whatever comes next.

Get access to The Backroom (100+ exclusive episodes) on Patreon: https://www.patreon.com/OneDimeThis week on 1Dime Radio, Tony is joined again by Benjamin Studebaker, political theorist with a PhD from Cambridge, to dig into Ben's recent article on “Debilitated Democracy,” the idea that modern democracies do not simply “decline”, they get structurally less capable over time, as modernization accelerates, politics fractures, and governance is pushed into an executive-technical machine that neither elected leaders nor technocrats can fully control. From there, we tackle Ben's argument for why America can't become an autocracy, and why people confuse authoritarian policy with autocratic rule, plus how federal complexity, institutional pluralism, and factional conflict make “dictatorship” fantasies harder to cash out in real life.Parts 2 and 3 of my conversation with Studebaker are in The Backroom on Patreon only. In The Backroom, as alluded to in the Backroom Preview in the first 2.5–3 minutes, Benjamin and I answer some of the most common questions we get regarding our politics. Are we post-left? Marxist? Or what? In particular, I try to get Studebaker to articulate what his personal political philosophy is, and what solutions or alternatives to our current impasse he believes in.Timestamps:00:00:00 Studebaker's Political Philosophy (The Backroom Preview)00:04:13  Intro, “Debilitated Democracy,” and the autocracy question00:13:08  Technocrats as “priests,” and why institutional trust collapses00:28:08  Elected officials vs technocrats, the executive branch tug-of-war00:47:36  Kelsen, Habermas, and democracy's legitimation crisis00:54:47  Trump, tariffs, visas, and the political limits of “disentangling” from the world order00:59:18  Authoritarian policy vs autocratic rule, why America can't be an autocracy01:11:59  Nick Land, Curtis Yarvin, and the “CEO-king” temptation01:23:23  Government shutdowns, food stamps, and “embedded democracy.”01:35:25  Managing the European right, and why France and Germany are different01:43:05  State capacity, charismatic leaders, and modern governance limits01:56:08  Backroom teaser: what “left” and “right” even mean nowGUEST:Benjamin Studebaker• Substack: https://bmstudebaker.substack.com/• Website: https://benjaminstudebaker.com/• X: https://x.com/BMStudebakerFOLLOW 1Dime:• Substack (Articles and Essays): https://1dimereview.substack.com/• X/Twitter: https://x.com/1DimeOfficial• Instagram: instagram.com/1dimeman• Check out my main channel videos: https://www.youtube.com/@1DimeeLeave a like, drop a comment, and give the show a 5-star rating on Spotify, Apple, or wherever you listen to this.

Welcome back to Cryptic Chronicles, where we unravel the threads of the strange, the esoteric, and the mind-bending concepts that challenge our perception of reality. Today, we're diving into a world where philosophy meets the occult, and the boundaries between fiction and reality blur. Enter Nick Land and the enigmatic Cybernetic Culture Research Unit, or CCRU—a collective that defied academia in the 1990s, birthing ideas that feel as alien as they are unsettling. At the heart of their work lies the concept of Hyperstition: the theory that ideas, myths, and fictions don't just reflect reality—they shape it, bending time and space in the process. In this episode, we'll explore how the CCRU's work connects cybernetics, capitalism, and the occult, weaving a tapestry of thought that has influenced everything from philosophy to pop culture to the darker corners of the internet. So, prepare to step into a labyrinth of thought where reality fractures and fictions come alive. This is Nick Land, the CCRU, and the strange power of Hyperstition. We're joined by Hunter Hunt-Hendrix, composer, philosopher, and force behind Liturgy, whose concept of transcendental black metal has redrawn the boundaries between underground music and systematic thought. Her work operates in parallel registers: an experimental music practice that stands on its own terms, and a body of theory moving through theology, psychoanalysis, and philosophy. This episode goes deep into Hunter's provocation that the Byzantine tradition of Christianity (the Eastern lineage that lasted another thousand years after the Latin West began its trajectory toward secularism, science, and industry) might hold resources for navigating the current moment of structural collapse. We discuss the difference between the transcendental (conditions of possibility, historicized horizons, Hegelian self-relating negativity) and the transcendent (a higher realm of intelligibility that is actually, ontically, here), and why critical theory's allergy to the latter might be more ideological than rational. We also get into Hunter's framework for practice: tetraperichoresis, a fourfold structure involving integration (merging ancient and contemporary materials), coalescence (putting philosophy, music, and drama into positive feedback), irrigation (moving between institutional worlds and smashing them against each other), and catalysis (the messianic wager that everything you do could be hastening the Kingdom). On free speech, the tech right, and politicisation. Geoff Shullenberger, managing editor at Compact, joins Alex and George to talk about Peter Thiel, René Girard, victimhood and the antichrist. Does it make sense to talk of "right-wing cancel culture"? Is it different from the left's? Is countercultural trolling in tension with "defending Western civilisation"? What does René Girard argue about mimesis and scapegoating? Why have his theories become popular? Is right-populism still politicising? How does it relate to libertarian anti-politics and hard-right militarisation? How has Silicon Valley libertarianism adapted to the new state-capitalist disposition?
