This week, Zak and Aaron take some time to discuss the newly renamed Halo Studios (so long, 343! We're sure Xbox didn't rename you because of all that bad press you've accumulated!) and chat about some of the big changes coming down the pipe for future titles. The most notable of these is the sunsetting of the Slipspace engine in favor of the shiny and ever-so-popular Unreal Engine 5, which will power all new Halo installments for the foreseeable future. But will this fresh direction be enough to shake off the franchise's funk? Only time will tell. Please, enjoy.Listen to Beach Girl on SpotifyCheck out edouggieart on EtsyCheck out even more edouggieart on Instagram

Fortunately, we invite Patreon supporter and friend of the podcast Jason Hobbs on to discuss having beat it once and going through it now for a second time.In our news, we talk about Opening Night Live from Gamescom hosted by Geoff Keighley. It had several game announcements, follow-ups and more from the hottest games this year and beyond. They capped it with an awesome gameplay showcase from Ratchet and Clank A Rift Apart. We also talk about the awesome reveal and later confusing purchasing methods for Call of Duty Black Ops Cold War. Yes, it's a mouthful. Topics in this episode: Why do gamers so often contradict themselves in the demands they make of game producers?; Is a resurgence of science upon us, and is it needed thanks to attacks to science on several fronts?; Why has Microsoft/343 Studios not developed a Halo movie, even after the aborted attempt that lead to District 9?; Star Trek has been seen as a major component in pushing sci-fi on TV, but TV has been Trek-less since Enterprise: what's next for Star Trek on TV?
Sometimes a game gets a second life on a new platform or console, typically with upgraded graphics, additional sound effects and/or voices, and additional Internet-enabled features only a Millennial could love. Sometimes a familiar name is slapped onto an entirely new game that seeks to upend the status quo for the franchise and provide a clean slate -- usually with a new developer, and sometimes a new publisher -- to begin totally anew. Sean and Vinnk compare video game remakes to reboots, decide which games deserved them, and which actually got them, and which ones they ended up playing and liking anyway.
