In today's Daily Fix:Battlefield Studios is delaying the launch of Battlefield 6 Season 2 to address community feedback. Fans have previously complained about the lack of updates and content in Season 1, so the team is taking extra time to work on Season 2, which will now drop on February 17. In other news, Ninja Theory is reportedly working on a new Hellblade game, this one meant to be more of a 'game' that the previous two. While Senua's Saga: Hellblade 2 was praised for its story and visuals, many complained there wasn't much of a game to actually play. And finally, scalpers are already selling pre-orders for the recently-announced LEGO Pokémon sets for hundreds more than the MSRP. Of particular value is the gym badge set, which is only included with the nearly $700 Charizard-Venusaur-Blastoise set.
Ce mois-ci, on enfourche notre nuage magique (qui parfois marche, et parfois pas) afin de parler du Enslaved : Odyssey to the West de Ninja Theory. In 2010, Ninja Theory released Enslaved: Odyssey to the West, a post-apocalyptic reimagining of the Chinese epic Journey to the West. We trace Tameem Antoniades' turbulent path from Kung Fu Chaos and Heavenly Sword to founding Ninja Theory and building Enslaved on a shoestring budget. The episode highlights the extraordinary creative lineup—Andy Serkis shaping Monkey, Alex Garland embedding with the team as co-designer, and Nitin Sawhney composing its score. Our conversation explores its lush environments, groundbreaking performance capture, and the dynamic between Monkey and Trip that critics compared to ICO and Prince of Persia. While sales fell short of expectations, expansions like Pigsy's Perfect 10 and cult acclaim cemented its legacy. Join us as we climb, fight, and journey west through Enslaved on today's trip down Memory Card Lane.Read transcript
In today's Daily Fix:Tencent has fired back at Sony in the ongoing lawsuit over Tencent's Light of Motiram video game. Sony is alleging Motiram is a 'clone' of Horizon Zero Dawn; now Tencent is saying Sony has copied other games when Horizon was being developed, citing Ninja Theory's Enslaved: Oddsey to the West as an example. In other news, former IGN staffer Destin Legarie was sent what he believes to be legitimate leaks of the price for the upcoming ROG Xbox Ally X, and it's not going to be cheap. And finally, Borderlands 4's latest patch hopefully fixes some of the performance issues plaguing the PC version of the game.

To be apathetic to something is to experience a lack of feeling or emotion in response to an event. For the Dukes, it's the word of the show. Xbox has been mismanaged for an entire generation and it has come at the cost of losing world class talents alongside studios. It was just in 2024 that we lost Tango Gameworks, Arkane Austin, Roundhouse Studios, and Alpha Dog Games. There was also the formidable Toys For Bob that went independent. That alone was more than enough to last us a generation, but today we learned that Xbox has closed down the studio they started back in 2018: The Initiative. Alongside that, Rare's Everwild has been canceled on top of a new IP from Zenimax Online Studios. There's no other way to slice it. For Xbox to improve, leadership must be held accountable. The question is if they ever will and given how situations at teams like Bungie have gone down, we expect a meek, weak willed level of accountability to the bloodbath at Microsoft this week. Indeed, much of the frustration is built off the back of constant, mind-numbing, inconsistent messaging. It was only in February that CEO of Microsoft Gaming, Phil Spencer, said Everwild was really shaping up. It was canceled today. With such wishy-washy messaging to their fans, the brand is at a point where no one can believe anything they say. Sure, a partnership with AMD to do next-generation consoles was announced within the last month. How can we trust that? It's the lowest level of trust asked of a consumer that you can believe an announcement when you see it. Instead, the only message we're left with is that if you're not a mega-hit in the making, Xbox wants to have no part of you. What does this say to teams like Compulsion and Ninja Theory or larger developers like Obsidian that like to split off in pursuit of smaller titles? It's amusing that Xbox has done this in the name of creating a sustainable business yet their methods and approach to making games is arguably the least sustainable thing we've seen. They're all in on a subscription service while putting tens of millions of dollars into making games. How it'll all shake up will be interesting to watch, but many of us know how this story will end. Please keep in mind that our timestamps are approximate, and will often be slightly off due to dynamic ad placement. 0:00:00 - Intro0:02:40 - Health is Wealth 0:20:27 - Xbox layoffs Learn more about your ad choices. As one of the year's first major AAA releases inches ever closer with Monster Hunter Wilds, Sean and Marc delve a bit into the indie space as they discuss the latest ID @ Xbox showcase and the Annapurna Interactive showcase as well. Were there any games that stood out? Any that got them super excited for their eventual release? Sean certainly has quite a few from both. Could Neowiz be hinting that Lies of P: Overture is co-op? Also, in a quiet week for gaming news, Microsoft made some waves by introducing their A.I. gaming tech called Muse which featured a demo using a rather maligned Ninja Theory game Bleeding Edge. Is there a worry about this leading to job losses? Or is this more of a positive as a way to bring back older games and keep them available on modern consoles? Plus, NetEase makes some weird decisions after announcing great news for Marvel Rivals, a former Nintendo Sales employee says the Summer is when we see Switch 2, Ubisoft suffers another blow with Assassin's Creed Shadows, Sean has more to say on Like a Dragon: Pirate Yakuza in Hawaii, and more! You can also watch this episode in video form on the W2M Network Youtube Channel, please give us a like, comment on the episode, and give the channel a subscribe and follow as well: https://youtube.com/live/6MhLht6Y10cListen as a podcast and give us a review on these platforms... This week, Xbox unveiled MUSE, a generative AI model aimed at boosting creativity and possibilities for gameplay. Published in the journal Nature as well as announced by Microsoft Research, the Xbox team shared findings alongside Ninja Theory on what this new AI model that was trained on Bleeding Edge could accomplish. In the extensive write-ups, we learn about the principles of this AI model, what Xbox's mandate is for it across their first party studios, and even get teased a bit on what it could mean for backwards compatibility. However, is it all sunshine and roses here for Xbox's new approach to game development? The push for AI is on more than ever and it's no longer a matter of "if" but rather "when." Like any tool, its public perception will be dictated by how responsibly it is handled. Joining Matty this week is Brad, to clean up the AI mess, and dive into a whole bunch of other Xbox news. We follow up our last episode's conversation on Avowed, dig into the future of Obsidian, mull over yet another Phil Spencer interview, and plenty more in what is bound to be divisive subject for many listeners. Guest host Mark Kilborn jumps in to talk with the sound team behind the amazing journey of survival through Viking time period Iceland, in the game Senua's Saga: Hellblade II. This adventure from publisher Ninja Theory, follows our main character as she unknowingly deals with psychosis, including many auditory hallucinations. The audio team had their hands full to translate these hallucinations from inside a character's head into something the game's players could understand and react against. David Garcia Diaz (Audio Director), Alessio Mellina (Technical Sound Designer) and Daniele Galante (Sound Designer) discuss the entire soundscape from voices that were manipulated heavily, to their use of binaural audio, and how the music interacted with the rest of this complicated mix.Check out Sound Ideas latest library, General Series 6000 Extension 12: www.sound-ideas.com/Product/2459/Ge…00-Extension-12 Full Details on the Tonebenders Los Angeles Sound Design Meet-up, Presented by The Motion Picture Sound Editors Here: tonebenderspodcast.com/tonebenders-s…sign-meet-up/ Episode Notes: https://tonebenderspodcast.com/301-hellblade-ii/ Podcast Homepage: www.tonebenderspodcast.com This episode is hosted by Mark Kilborn

Released in 2017, the video game Hellblade: Senua's Sacrifice saw players take control of dark-age warrior Senua as she battled to rescue the soul of her dead lover from the Norse underworld. The action-adventure game from British studio Ninja Theory won awards for its gameplay, acting and storytelling, as well as plaudits for its nuanced and well-researched depiction of psychosis. German actor Melina Juergens was awarded a Bafta for her performance as the titular character. Now studio head Dominic Matthews and his team are working on the sequel, Senua's Saga: Hellblade II. Nathan Jones joins Dominic, Melina and the rest of the team in Cambridge as they tell this next chapter of their story.

The next major release in Xbox's first party family has arrived! Senua's Saga: Hellblade II has seen an increased amount of pressure placed upon it as concern for the platform holder as ramped up. Stripping ourselves from the heightened emotionality of that situation, how does over five years of development, a team size four times bigger than the original, and a big Microsoft check benefit the newest entry in the Hellblade series? The Dukes are joined by Gene Park where all three were able to play through the game a week ahead of its launch and let their thoughts marinate. Sitting at an 82 on OpenCritic, Hellblade 2 is off to a solid start, but where do the Dukes sit? Well, it's time to dig deep and find out! A nightmare year for Xbox continues. The latest chapter in this story is Xbox's shuttering of four Bethesda studios in Tango Gameworks, Arkane Austin, Roundhouse Studios, and Alpha Dog Games. The message is clear that the experimenting days of Xbox are done as the strategy deployed by its leaders continues to fail. The focus is Call Of Duty, Fallout, DOOM, and other high profile titles while the future of surrounding creative studios like Obsidian, Compulsion, Ninja Theory, and others have uncertainty beginning to cloud them. It serves as yet another powder keg moment for the brand where fan patience has run out. Is it time for the Phil Spencer era to end? How is Hi Fi Rush considered a hit yet its studio is shutdown? Why is the leash so short for teams like Arkane Austin while 343 and The Initiative can afford to waste precious resources? Is it even possible for Xbox to restore the faith at this point? You have many questions, so do we, and one thing is for sure: Xbox is still finding out the answers to all of them. Please keep in mind that our timestamps are approximate, and will often be slightly off due to dynamic ad placement.
