It's announced this week that the Amico has launched, just not as a console but as an Android app. Will the necessity of needing two devices, one to serve as the Amico and the other to serve as a controller prove too difficult for this "family friendly" system? And why after saying that games would cost $8 or less is an attempt to charge $15 for the games being made? Do we think the real console will ever see the light of day? The Game Award Nominees have been announced, and in what was such a huge year for video game releases, do the awards seem competitive, or does it seem like one game is set to easily win the biggest awards? There's a video game company we've been following for a long time on our show, and just when we though maybe the company was moving in a new direction, they pull some stunts with a recent tournament that leaves one of our hosts seething. Well, it finally happened, after so many months of hearings, legal challenges, and even leaked documents, Microsoft finally closed the deal with Activision / Blizzard a few days ago. Of course, this leads gamers to want to know... what Game Pass games am I getting? Ha ha ha. This also leads to many other questions as well, such as what happens to the industries most toxic executive. Next Year, total online support will be ending for the Nintendo WiiU and the 3DS. Although the eShop support was previously pulled for these systems, this is still a major event that has some game preservationists sad. At least one title will still keep the lights on, since this iconic franchise would suffer a bit of a setback if they didn't. Pour one out for those still playing their 3DS's as the lights go out in 2024.... but could a new Nintendo system be out by that time to help us forget? A game near and dear to us turned 25 years old this past week, and we take time at the top of our show to reflect on our memories of what Dance Dance Revolution has meant to us over the years. Without it, we wouldn't have this show, and we're excited that the game has had a recent "2nd Mix" life to allow new generations to play it and bond over it. It's not just Memories (get it?) though, as we dive into the weeks news, including a major hack at Sony. Could this be something similar to what Sony experienced in the Playstation 3 era, or is the data that's been breached not that big of a deal all things considered? We get to see e-mails, concepts for yet to be released consoles, and so much more. We talk about some of the unredacted secrets, but also take a moment to call out some of those in the industry using this to create more clicks for their websites unnecessairly. What a busy week in gaming news? Who could have possibly predicted that Unity would indeed unify the whole industry against them by making a switcheroo change to their pricing. With some oddly timed sales of stock, could this go so far as to land a major CEO in hot water legally? Well if there's any justice in this world there might be... is what one host of Orange Lounge Raido says multiple times! All this AND two big "direct" presentations from Nintendo and Sony in the same day. Phew, what a week! GamesCom happened this week, and we have much news to wrap up from that event. Earlier this week, however, Nintendo shocked many fans by announcing that Charles Martinet would no longer be providing the voice of Mario in their games, although he would be given a special ambassador role. A fan of Wipeout has taken the source code that leaked from the game and turned it into a full version of the game playable in a web browser, daring Sony to take it down but continue the series. Microsoft had a Developer Direct this week, which included the surprise release of Hi-Fi Rush, an action game set to the beat of music. Basically, it's Beatonetta. Or Devil May Dance. Changes to YouTube policies effected many gaming content creators this week. Is it right to change the rules that were in place for so long and retroactively apply them to content that has been made? YouTube isn't the only company being faced with this question this week, as Wizards of the Coast makes controversial changes to Dungeons and Dragons that have people concerned for the future. D&D has inspired many video games, so we update ourselves on this controversy and what it could mean for a larger industry. The drama continues in the Microsoft and Activision Blizzard merger story, as this week it comes out that Microsoft has offered Sony Call of Duty for use on Playstation Plus. A whole mess has been made in the Smash Bros. competitive tournament scene, with statements from Smash World Tour, Nintendo, and Panda Global all leading in different directions causing some very big moves by those involved. We discuss the news, and how it might be indicative of key communication problems within an apparently siloed Nintendo. Late in our show, a long time podcast listener calls in to help us make sense of the issue, and share a really cool small community ritual he partakes in every week. The Activision/Blizzard merger with Microsoft has been great for one thing, and that's leaks and statements from court documents! It appears all NDAs are off the table when it comes to topics like the Playstation 6, true feelings about the Battlefield franchise, and much more. New details about the PSVR2 were announced this week, though surprisingly it was all done via a press release, and not thru a special "direct" style presentation, or a live conference. Did Sony do this due to the high price tag of the device? The availability of it (or lack thereof?) We theorize and discuss this week on the show. The news slows down a little bit for this week leading into Halloween and some more major video game releases (with Bayonetta 3 having released this past week). However there are still some big headlines, including the fact that Microsoft/Xbox may soon be joining the $70 price tag club. It certianly seems immenent (well, in 2023 anyway) some of the subscription fees may go up, so we discuss ideas how to get savings on subscriptions now.
