As we (slowly) approach episode 40 of DFG, we slow things down for a much more chilled out and deliberate experience: the 2021 rough like deck building game from solo developer Daniel Mullins (with help from a few others). Scrolling the steam page for this game provides a pretty clear image of what to expect: a cabin, cards, death, puzzles, and intrigue. As it turns out, there's a lot more bubbling under the surface of this experience than the developer makes known in the marketing. The game has become a smash hit by nearly all metrics and has grown into one of the cult "personality" games like Undertale that people will base entire parts of their personality off of. In this episode we discuss the game in its entirety including its gameplay, story, mechanics, twists, and its pitfalls. Primarily, however we discuss the differences between the games marketing, the reality, and the gap in expectations that could ultimately lead to disappointment or frustration for unsuspecting players.

Hey all, thanks for joining us along this journey for the last 9 years. We stared Men Of Low Moral Fiber when I was 30 years old and I just turned 39, so all of my 30s were consumed with recording MOLMF episodes, editing them, publishing, planning, scheduling, and playing the actual MOLMF games. It was exhausting and exhilarating and I'll never forget it...aside from all of the stuff I forgot along the way.  The whole idea was to do this as a community, focus on relationships, and have a little fun along the way as an excuse to stay in touch. It was one a lovely time full of learning, hilarity, entertaining moments, frustrating puzzles, obscene duck and chicken censors, lots of stupid musical segments—complete with equally stupid musical theme songs, and an insightful guest or two along the way. All in all we covered 90 full game episodes, plus 39 Side Quests, holiday episodes, and random interviews and shorts along the way. If you were one of the special people who celebrated these classic games along with us, we thank you. It's been real, but now we're closing up shop. Don't worry though, I'll be playing Outer Wilds, Inscryption, and Balatro FOREVER...just not recording episodes about them. Or at least not publishing them.  We'll miss you all. Now that the games and episodes are over, I hope we can still stay in touch.    —Ben Of Low Moral Fiber (Corrigan and Jason say goodbye too)

Send us a textIn this week's episode, while Roger is off on a ghost-hunting adventure, Mike and Phil take over to deliver a mix of spooky humor, horror movie reviews, and creative reimaginings of iconic video games.Ghost Hunting and Horror Films Mike and Phil share some light-hearted banter about Roger's ghost-hunting quest in Maryland. Mike then reviews two horror films: In a Violent Nature—a slasher film reminiscent of Friday the 13th—and Terrifier 3, which pushes the limits of gore and depravity. Phil joins in on the conversation, comparing the intensity of these films to horror classics.Reimagining Video Games: Horror Genre Edition The hosts challenge themselves to reimagine well-known horror games in different genres. Ideas include a Castlevania-themed augmented reality game like Pokémon Go, a Resident Evil match-three puzzle game, and a From Dusk Till Dawn beat-'em-up inspired by Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Shredder's Revenge. They also pitch a turn-based Addams Family RPG based on the classic black-and-white style.Game Reviews and What We've Been PlayingMike: Discusses his experience with Fortnite's Halloween event (Fortnitemares) and the Halloween-themed battle pass in Fall Guys.Phil: Tried Mad Streets, a team-based beat-'em-up game on Game Pass, but found it lacking.Dead Space Remake Impressions Mike and Phil dive into the Dead Space Remake. They share their nostalgic moments and frustrations, including the frequent enemy ambushes and dark lighting. Despite a few drawbacks, they both agree that the game remains a horror masterpiece.Next Week's Game: Inscryption The spooky season continues as Retro Game Frankenstein assigns the hosts to play Inscryption, a psychological horror card game. Do you ever feel like you missed the boat on a game? Maybe it was really influential and subsequent games used its "trick"? Maybe you wonder if that OG still has the juice even though you couldn't possibly go into the game completely blind? These were the thoughts running through my mind as I booted up Pony Island by Daniel Mullins Games for the first time in 2024. I'm happy to say that despite I'll never get the "true" experience, Pony Island has a lot more going for it than mere gimmicks. This is a game that actually has something to say, and I'm glad that I played it. Joining me for the discussion about Pony Island is Chris, one half of the 1 Hour, 1 Decision (1H1D) podcast. Along with his co-host Tom, Chris picks a random game on Xbox Game Pass, plays for an hour, and does a podcast about that experience and whether they want to keep playing.
