S2. E17. Author Uncut Podcast: Special Episode on George Floyd, Kaepernick, The Holocaust, Slavery & History of Police Brutality (AuthorUncut.com) This episode was supposed to be another chapter from Counter Punch. But, with what we have seen on television this week, I felt compelled to give an episode to George Floyd and his family. George Floyd was the man who was killed by a Minneapolis police officer (Derek Chauvin) by placing a knee on his neck (with his hands in his pockets) for over eight minutes while George pled for his life. Three other officers were also involved. This episode is more of a stream of consciousness on the subject of police violence and those lost. I have not edited this podcast and am allowing it to run as is. Please note that I have included a clip from ABC's Nightline with Juju Chang reporting that includes graphic audio of the murder of George Floyd. However, that clip lasts less than one minute. In this episode I discuss: - Social injustice and police violence - The George Floyd murder - Philando Castile's murder - Sandra Bland's murder - Eric Garner's murder - Tamir Rice's murder (12 year old murdered by Cleveland police) - Colin Kaepernick and taking a knee - MLK peaceful protests - The Holocaust and Jewish experience - Slavery - NextDoor community - Archie Williams and the Innocence Project (man who was in prison for 36 years before he was exonerated by DNA evidence) and AGT (America's Got Talent) - Deflecting by using black-on-black crime to excuse police violence NOTE: I am so sorry I did not mention Breonna Taylor, an EMT First Responder killed/gunned down in her bed by the police looking for someone they already had in custody. How did a skeptical journalist find his way from depression and panic attacks to a more balanced, mindful life? Meditation. For a long time, meditation was sold in a way that made many people wary of its actual benefits. But now, we know this practice of sitting calmly, focusing on the breath, and watching thoughts come and go can actually produce physiological shifts in the brain and in our ability to cope with the stressors of life. Our guest on today’s episode of The Doctor’s Farmacy, Dan Harris, walks us through his own journey into meditation and the amazing payoff it’s had in his life. Dan is an Emmy Award-winning journalist and the co-anchor of ABC's Nightline and the weekend editions of Good Morning America. He is the author of two New York Times best-sellers, 10% Happier & Meditation for Fidgety Skeptics: A 10% Happier How-to Book. He went on to launch the 10% Happier podcast and an app called 10% Happier: Meditation for Fidgety Skeptics. See acast.com/privacy for privacy and opt-out information.
In this episode, I release an episode! This podcast isn't dead, yay! in this one, I discuss some wonderful advice I've received for Transformation Planet. Have I over-complicated the process of producing this podcast? Uh, maybe. Okay, yes--yes I have. No more over-complicating. Simple works. I also talk Christmas and about the perspectives I must use if I'm to make it through without compulsively overeating. I'm also including a replay of my interview with Dr. Marty Lerner. Dr. Lerner's experience with eating disorders started long before he became known for his research and published articles. He shares his personal story with disordered eating behaviors in this episode. He also shares how a research project using ice cream forever changed the direction of his career. In the decades since, he's been featured on numerous national television and radio shows including The NPR Report, 20/20, ABC's Nightline and Discovery Health. Dr. Lerner's research has been published in many different professional publications and featured in The Wall Street Journal, New York Times, USA Today and several newspapers and national magazines. He is the CEO of Milestones In Recovery Eating Disorder Treatment Center in Florida.
Eating is about more than just food or nutrition. It can be a deeper experience that affects us on all levels beyond the physical, including mind, body and spirit. In fact, research has shown the connection between specific mealtime rituals, and quantitative measures such as our body mass index and likelihood of depression. This segment explores specific rituals you can do to elevate your mealtime experience and relationship with body and soul. Next, we have my very special guest Dan Harris, who is an Emmy Award-winning journalist, co-anchor on ABC and author. Dan is the co-anchor of ABC's Nightline and the weekend editions of Good Morning America. He is also the author of Meditation for Fidgety Skeptics: A 10% Happier How-to Book. Listen in as Dan shares his clear, simple approach to meditation with some of the most respected meditation teachers on the planet, and how you too can implement this approach in your lives.

Friday Lite: Review of the Adultery Debate on ABC's Nightline
The Archbishop of Canterbury claims that Muslims are offended by Christian Doctrine (gasp), Brian McLaren's new book that promotes monastic spiritual practices, ABC's Nightline news' expose of false prophet Todd Bentley's so-called healings.
Last week on ABC's Nightline, british journalist Martin Bashir was set to moderate a debate between members of The Rational Response Squad and Christian ministers Ray Comfort and Kirk Cameron. Comfort and Cameron claimed that they could prove scientifically, without invoking the Bible or faith, that their god exists. Disappointingly the program that aired (after much editing) ran more like The Debate that Wasn't. Instead of letting the nonsense get to us, we called upon voices of reason and great debaters Dr. Michael Shermer and Dr. Phil Plait to cheer us up, and help make sense of it all.
