Key Topics Covered Life Lessons from Officiating a Wedding Karl opens up about his experience presiding over his niece's wedding. He shares heartfelt advice on partnership, the value of keeping your inner child alive, embracing life's ups and downs, and why “together forever” is a powerful North Star for couples and business partners alike. The importance of mindset—advancing, not retreating, in marriage and business—is highlighted, along with practical methods for maintaining positivity (like using standup comedy as a daily mood boost). Licensing vs. Franchising—Profit Powerhouses Explained Karl breaks down the pivotal difference between licensing and franchising, offering memorable real-world examples: Licensing: Earning royalties from intellectual property (like Disney does by licensing characters for merchandise) with little risk or hard cost. Franchising: Replicating a full business model with training and brand support (think McDonald's, Subway). He spotlights the Blue Man Group's scalable licensing as a model for exponential growth and contrasts it with Siegfried & Roy's limited, high-earning but labor-dependent Vegas act. Karl also details what makes a business franchisable—and why some aren't. Warren Buffett's Rules and Strategies for Success Karl distills Warren Buffett's timeless investment wisdom for coaches and entrepreneurs: Understand and stick to the rules (profit, repeat business). Seek high-margin, habit-forming opportunities (buy for a penny, sell for a dollar). “Rule #1: Don't lose money. Rule #2: See rule #1.” Build a personal brand and keep clients just like getting clients. Practice extreme clarity: know what to say “yes” and “no” to. Harness the power of compounding, but don't wait ten years—use marginal utility theory for rapid incremental growth. Clarity, Focus, and Avoiding Distractions Karl ties elite execution to laser clarity—most entrepreneurs fail because of distraction or lack of clear direction. Eliminating distractions (social media, busy work) is as vital as mastering strategy. He advocates for serving first, delivering value before a sale, and focusing on the biggest problems you can solve. Coaching Operating Systems and Retention Practical advice centers on using a proven coaching operating system (like Karl's Jumpstart 12 or Profit Acceleration Software) to guarantee client wins, profit acceleration, and long-term engagement. Chris Wink, Philip Stanton, and Matthew Goldman created Blue Man Group in 1989 as a performance art piece and it has since grown to become a worldwide phenomenon. What started as a small show at the Astor Place Theater in New York City went on to tour worldwide three times and take up residency in Las Vegas, Chicago, Orlando, and Boston. But all good things must come to an end, and the lights go out on their Astor Place run this February, making Blue Man Group one of the longest running off-Broadway shows. To date Blue Man Group has released five albums, received a Grammy nomination, performed on numerous TV shows, and appeared in many memorable commercials. In this conversation, Chris Wink and Philip Stanton share how they, along with Matt Goldman, came up with the idea for the Blue Man, who brings what to the table, and how Blue Man Group took shape and evolved over time. Spirit Switchboard Episode #93 Jan. 31st, 2025 Topic: Duluth Ghost Tours Guest: Kimberly Christine This week Spirit Switchboard welcomes someone who fabulously wears many hats, Kimberly Christine, owner and operator of Duluth Ghost Tours. Kimberly will share her ghostly tales and experiences with us. Bring your snacks and bevies and join us in the chat! Guest Bio: "Kimberly Christine grew up in Duluth, MN and had some amazing adventures throughout the US pursuing her MFA degree in film and theater. Working for some big venues helping to create costume and special make up effects with Cirque du Soleil, Blue Man Group, small commercials and films. But, she started her paranormal journey in 2013 with a move to one of the most haunted cities, Savannah, GA. Here she was saturated with the paranormal and got to be part of an episode on Ghost Adventures at one of the haunted properties she worked at, The Gribble House. Eventually, she moved to Los Angeles and started her own haunted tour on Hollywood Blvd guiding others about the glittery dark side. She became a seasoned paranormal investigator, Reiki Master, and healer with a passion for exploring the unseen world for 3 yrs. Then a move to Lake Havasu City, AZ, she started a new tour at the London Bridge, eventually landing her a small feature once again on Ghost Adventures during the pandemic! But 5 yrs of desert life was exhausting and the seasons called, so she moved back home to Duluth, where she now leads immersive ghost tours that delve into the city's haunted history and supernatural lore. As an experienced healer, massage therapist, designer and Reiki Master, Kimberly helps others tap into their energy for self-discovery and spirit communication, blending mysticism with practical healing techniques and even designing accessories. Her work as a paranormal investigator bridges her love for history, energy work, and the mysteries of the quantum world and beyond. Whether guiding curious minds through eerie locations along Lake Superior or teaching the art of spiritual connection, Kimberly brings a unique mix of knowledge, intuition, and a touch of magic to all she does. Her decades-long, entrepreneurial skills, have her thinking about creating courses and coaching others to start up their own business in the paranormal field as she believes every city should have a haunted tour to entertain the spooky travelers in dark tourism no matter how small the town, there's always a passing need to educate and scare... After spending 14 hours flying, Tim and Guy are not met by Justin, Travis, nor Griffin in physical form. However the five are spiritually connected by their most recent watch of Paul Blart: Mall Cop 2 and they're here to discuss it for you. Text us about this show.John Calarco is simply an outstanding musician. Never mind that he could be considered a drummer's drummer, he is at heart a musician. For proof, listen to recordings he's played on by Daryl Stuermer (Phil Collins, Genesis, Jean Luc Ponty), Willy Porter, Greg Koch, the Kirk Tratnall Trio, and more. Not enough? He already has one solo album, Shine, to his credit and is about to drop his next one called Drone. These two albums are completely his original work and they will floor you. Add to that experiences playing with Andy Summers (The Police), Kate Pierson (The B-52s), Nils Lofgren (Bruce Springsteen), and a host of other notable artists and you realize there's something very special about "Johnny Cee."
