Temple literally got a courtside view of what Baboucarr Njie could do when the former UTSA wing guard dropped a career-high 25 points on the Owls back in January and added 10 rebounds for a double-double. And now that Njie has signed with Temple out of the transfer portal, head coach Adam Fisher and his staff can gameplan with the 6-foot-6, 185-pound junior instead of having to prepare to play against him. Njie joined us on The Scoop this week to talk about why he signed with Temple and why he believes his versatility, athleticism and shot-blocking ability will be an asset for the Owls this season. We also have more Temple football recruiting updates for you and will tell you why Peter Clarke should be considered one of the best tight ends in the program's history.  Intro: 0:00 – 3:28 Temple loses one, gains two more football commits:  3:28 – 7:36 EA Sports thinks Peter Clarke is pretty good: 7:36 – 10:47 Baboucarr Njie joins The Scoop: 10:47 – 35:09 Mailbag: 35:09 – end *Timestamps are approximate due to advertisements.

What if AI is quietly making you a worse leader, and you can't even feel it happening?Michael Bungay Stanier (MBS) is the bestselling author of The Coaching Habit, one of the most widely read leadership books of the last decade, now re-released in a 10-year anniversary edition. He is the founder of Box of Crayons and the host of the Change Signal podcast. In this episode of Truth Works, he joins Jessica Neal and guest co-host Peter Clarke to ask an uncomfortable question: is AI making us worse leaders? His answer is yes.━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━THE CORE ARGUMENTAI seduces us into speed, certainty, and the half-decent answer, at the exact moment leadership demands the opposite. MBS argues curiosity is being chipped away in all of us, and the leaders who survive the AI era will treat it as a discipline they practice, not a trait they assume they have.At the center of the conversation is his framework for what leadership now requires:→ Clarity over certainty→ Context over content→ Connection over cocooning→ Courage over collusionHe and Jessica unpack why judgment and taste, not big teams, budgets, or functional expertise, are the skills that actually scale when everyone has the same information and the same tools.━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━INSIDE NETFLIXJessica draws on her years at Netflix, where the company interviewed for curiosity, treated big decisions as "bets" instead of life-or-death calls, and reframed failure as data. She tells the story of the $100M House of Cards bet, admits most of Netflix's decisions were actually bad ones, and explains how a culture of small experiments and honest trade-offs is what let the company take the swings that built it.━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━ALSO IN THIS EPISODE→ Why data is political, not neutral→ Why courage is the real differentiator behind every great founder→ The strategy question: "If we say yes to this, what must we say no to?"→ The deeper gift of coaching that has nothing to do with having the answer: helping people feel seen, heard, and encouraged━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━TOPICS COVERED→ Why AI is deadening curiosity more than fostering it→ The 4 C's of leadership in the AI era→ Why judgment and taste beat big teams and budgets→ The Netflix $100M House of Cards bet→ Why most of Netflix's decisions were bad ones, and why that was fine→ Building a culture of small experiments→ Why data is political, not neutral→ Why courage is the differentiator behind every great founder→ The strategy question→ The deeper gift of coaching━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━Find Michael: MBS.works | boxofcrayons.com | The Coaching Habit (Amazon)Truth Works is hosted by Jessica Neal & Peter Clarke.

Jessica Neal and co-host Peter Clarke sit down with Gagan Biyani, co-founder of Udemy, founder of Sprig, and now co-founder and CEO of Maven, the live cohort-based learning platform reshaping how the world's top operators learn from each other.Gagan started his first business at 13, teaching speech and debate to kids in his living room while his parents went through a divorce and his family rode out multiple tech recessions. By his senior year, that summer camp had 150 students and was financing the trips of every student on his school's debate team.In this conversation, Gagan walks Jessica and Peter through the unlikely path that took him from a Fremont kid with no idea startups existed, to obsessively reading TechCrunch four hours a day from a government consulting desk, to becoming the business co-founder of Udemy after a single Skype call with two Turkish immigrants who didn't even know they wanted to run the company yet.He talks openly about getting pushed out of Udemy, raising $60 million for Sprig and watching it crash and burn, and the years of self-doubt that followed before Maven finally clicked. He shares why his habits get stricter the more pressure he's under, why a status-oriented social network is the most dangerous thing that can happen to a founder, and the friend group from high school speech and debate that has kept him grounded for two decades. Then he and Jessica get into the part of the conversation that should make every leader sit up. Why most AI rollouts fail in week three. Why "just give people the tools" is the laziest mistake HR teams keep making. Why Maven has already restructured its engineering pods from 4.5 engineers per PM down to 2, and is asking whether that ratio still needs to shrink further. He explains why universities will be the single biggest laggards in the AI transition, why the education gap is about to widen dramatically, and what he'd actually do if he had a six-year-old in the public school system right now.Topics covered:Starting his first business at 13 during his parents' divorceThe Stanford summer camp that became a $50K business with 150 studentsWhy he was a terrible boss as a teenagerHow TechCrunch and one comment from a friend changed his life trajectoryBecoming Udemy's business co-founder after a single Skype callGetting pushed out of his own company and starting overRaising $60M for Sprig, burning out, and shutting it downWhy founders need friend groups that aren't status-orientedThe counterintuitive habit pattern: stricter routines under more stressWhy product-market fit is the #1 job, and recruiting is #2Why Maven exists, humans still have a place in modern learningRestructuring engineering pods because of AI: 4.5 engineers per PM down to 2Why most AI rollouts fail in week threeThe biggest mistake HR leaders are making with AI right nowWhy universities will be the laggards in the AI transitionThe Alpha School model and the future of K-12 educationThis is one of those episodes where a founder you might not have heard of teaches you more about building, leading, and surviving in the next decade than most of the household names ever will. Gagan is honest about the failures, generous with the frameworks, and clear-eyed about what's coming.

She built one of the first podcasts in the world. She turned down the CEO job after twenty years. And she wants you to ask yourself one question: if not now, when?In this episode of Truth Works, Jessica Neal and co-host Peter Clarke sit down with Debbie Millman, the founder and host of Design Matters, the longest-running design podcast in the world, now in its twentieth year. Over two decades, Debbie has interviewed more than 700 of the world's most creative people, written eight books, and shaped some of the biggest consumer brands on the planet, including Burger King, Häagen-Dazs, Star Wars, Tropicana and the No More campaign. She co-founded the world's first Masters in Branding program at the School of Visual Arts, is President Emeritus of AIGA, and in 2024 was named an Executive Fellow at Harvard Business School. This conversation goes way deeper than the résumé. Debbie talks about failing as an artist, writer, and designer before stumbling into branding by accident. She explains why she turned down the CEO offer at Sterling Brands. She shares what hundreds of interviews have taught her about confidence, insecurity, and reinvention. And she gets refreshingly clear-eyed about AI, and what it is quietly doing to the next generation's brains.TOPICS COVEREDFailing as an artist, writer and designer before finding brandingBecoming the rainmaker at Interbrand and Sterling BrandsWhy she turned down the CEO offer after four months of deliberationHow Design Matters began in 2005 as a paid internet radio showWhat hundreds of interviews taught her about insecurity and legacyCareer advice for creatives and knowing your value propositionMarrying Roxane Gay and acquiring The Rumpus togetherWriting Love Letter to a GardenWhy AI should have a drinking ageThe one question she now asks herself every day: if not now, when? What makes this episode hit differently is not the résumé. It is the reminder that even the most accomplished people on the planet built their lives the same way the rest of us have to, one brave decision at a time, often with no clue what was coming next. Debbie's story is proof that reinvention is always available, that confidence is built and never gifted, and that the best chapters of a life can absolutely come after sixty. If you take one thing from this conversation, let it be her question. Whatever you have been waiting to start, finish, or finally claim as yours, ask yourself honestly: if not now, when?

Together, the three share over 30 years of experience navigating the highest-stakes hiring environments in the tech world.Jeff Markowitz, currently an advisor at Greylock Partners, shares the incredible story of being hand-picked by Google CEO Sundar Pichai to reshape senior leadership at Alphabet. Peter Clarke, a Talent Partner at Accel for over 13 years, opens up about the evolution of search and his role as a "fifth Beatle" in the founding of True Search. This conversation goes beyond standard interview advice. The trio pulls back the curtain on:Why most companies get hiring wrong, even today. The dangers of "war for talent" thinking vs. relationship building. The specific simulation techniques the best leaders use to interview. The critical, and often missing, step of referencing as a management playbook. How great CEOs, like Scott Dietzen (formerly of Pure Storage), learn the job before they even make the hire. The one question Jessica asks to immediately identify a truly great recruiter.Whether you're a founder looking to make your first executive hire, a leader struggling to build a balanced team, or a recruiter looking to level up from "salesy" to strategic, this is a masterclass you cannot afford to miss.Timestamps: – Intro: Reconnecting with friends. – Peter Clarke's unique career path: Graphic design to software engineer to executive search. – Accel's unique investing approach and portfolio impact. – Jeff Markowitz's journey: CPA to opening the Silicon Valley office to Greylock. – The call from Sundar Pichai: Mapping out the senior talent role at Google/Alphabet. – Why hiring is still so hard (and wrong) in 2026. – The flaw in prioritizing "diligence" over assessment. – The true cost of a bad hire (and why it's not what you think). – Moving beyond standard questions to "unfiltered conversations." – How to simulate working together during the interview process. – The best CEOs get this one thing right (Pure Storage example). – How can CEOs really identify great recruiting talent? – Closing thoughts on friendship and mutual career impact.

Three days later, they were all sacked. This is an excerpt from the Creatures of the Industry podcast, a 3CR Community Radio project and an oral history of those who made the building and construction industry in Melbourne since the 1960s.Here, survivor of the collapse and industry stalwart Pat Preston gives his first-hand account of the disaster and its aftermath... plus industry standards at the time, other near-misses on the bridge, and the pay and conditions fought and won on that job. This extended interview features the voices of Peter Clarke, and Creatures of the Industry Podcast host, Ralph Edwards. You can find the full extended interview with Pat Preston, plus all episodes and stories over at 3cr.org.au/cotiToday, after this episode is first broadcast in Melbourne on Wednesday Morning, families and supporters will gather in a yearly memorial organised by the Westgate Bridge Memorial Committee under the bridge on Douglas Parade in Spotswood.

In an extended version of the programme that was broadcast, Melvyn Bragg and guests discuss the influential book John Maynard Keynes wrote in 1919 after he resigned in protest from his role at the Paris Peace Conference. There the victors of World War One were deciding the fate of the defeated, especially Germany and Austria-Hungary, and Keynes wanted the world to know his view that the economic consequences would be disastrous for all. Soon Germany used his book to support their claim that the Treaty was grossly unfair, a sentiment that fed into British appeasement in the 1930s and has since prompted debate over whether Keynes had only warned of disaster or somehow contributed to it. Peter Clarke is better known professionally under the name of Budgie. A self taught timekeeper, his unique style has lent itself to the likes of The Slits, The Glove, The Creatures and of course imperial phase of Siouxsie and the Banshees. Over the last 40 odd years Budgie has laid down the rhythm for alternative music and now he has written a book about his life, his journey through the music industry and most importantly his understanding of self. The Absence is much more than a rock n roll diary its an honest exploration of the factors that drove him from obscurity to fame and the very edge of control. Its an honest and unflinching look at a life that until now has only ever been glimpsed from the outside. Our latest Bred a Blue podcast guest is the answer to a great quiz question! Who is the only player to have been a teammate of Paul Gascoigne, Wayne Rooney and Jordan Pickford? Top marks if you went for former Everton reserves centre-half Sean O'Hanlon. Known throughout football as ‘Chief', O'Hanlon never quite made the breakthrough at Everton after joining as a 10-year-old, but he did share a dressing room with Gazza and Rooney along the way. Indeed, he was Rooney's roommate when the 16-year-old ‘Boy Wonder' embarked on his first ever senior pre-season trip in 2002. After gaining some loan experience at Swindon Town, O'Hanlon decided to make the break from Everton in 2004 – realising that it was going to too tough to oust Alan Stubbs, David Weir, Joseph Yobo, David Unsworth or Peter Clarke from the central defensive berths. From Swindon he moved to MK Dons, for whom he scored at Wembley in the EFL Trophy final, then north of the border to Hibernian, before seeing out his playing days with Carlisle United and Stockport County. It was at Carlisle that O'Hanlon played in front of a teenage goalkeeper on-loan from Sunderland. "You could see even then that Jordan [Pickford] was heading for the top," O'Hanlon said. The former Blue hung his boots up in 2016 and then four years later, his young son became an internet sensation when, during the Covid lockdown, he recreated many famous goals in his back garden! The little fellow attracted the attention of the world's media and O'Hanlon senior found himself conducting radio interviews for stations in Brazil, Italy and many more besides!

With the return of the El Niño weather pattern after a three-year hiatus, several Southeast Asian nations are preparing for the resurgence of the hazardous haze caused by peatland fires in Indonesia. Indonesia's 24 million hectares of tropical peatlands – the largest holding worldwide – support vital biodiversity and carbon storage. However, agricultural expansion and drainage for oil palm and pulpwood plantations pose severe threats to these ecosystems. These activities release vast amounts of greenhouse gases, and peat, once drained, is also highly combustible, emitting even more greenhouse gases if ignited. So how closely linked is the fate of the peatlands to global warming? And how can Indonesia balance its development needs while also protecting the environment and contributing to global climate goals? The over-representation of higher caste Indians in leadership positions abroad has correlated with a sharp rise in caste discrimination in Western workplaces, leading some local US jurisdictions, like the city of Seattle, to enact laws specifically banning discrimination based on caste. So what do managers and HR staff in Western workplaces need to know about caste and its impact on employees' wellbeing? How does gender intersect with caste-motivated antisocial behaviors? Myanmar is in the midst of a humanitarian crisis dating back to the military coup of February 2021, which toppled the elected government of Aung San Suu Kyi and triggered a massive popular uprising that has been met with a brutal junta-led crackdown on protesters and the civil disobedience movement. Thousands of civilians have been killed, thousands more detained and tortured, and severe restrictions have been imposed on internet access, media freedom, and civil liberties. All this on top of an existing situation in Myanmar in which millions of people were already suffering from poverty, conflict, displacement, and natural disasters. Aid efforts by international and local organisations have also been impeded by the junta, with aid workers facing increasing challenges and risks in accessing and assisting people in need. As international aid players pull back, local civil society organisations have stepped up to serve beleaguered communities. Yet, local aid actors are now calling for wholesale reforms as they find long-established operational practices and funding models are simply ineffective in today's environment. So how are aid providers navigating the ethical and practical dilemmas of humanitarian efforts in Myanmar? And what alternative models and approaches are emerging from local aid workers? Development researchers and Myanmar watchers Dr Anne Decobert and Dr Tamas Wells join Peter Clarke to examine how aid operates in the strife-torn nation. An Asia Institute podcast. So how has living under the yoke of the War on Terror influenced how Muslims see themselves and their place in Western societies? What impact has this environment of suspicion and fear had on the generation of young Muslims who came of age during this period? Researchers of Muslim societies in the West Professor Michael Humphrey and Dr Jan Ali examine the ongoing impacts of the War on Terror with presenter Peter Clarke. An Asia Institute podcast.
