This week's podcast guest, Alex Sheen, the Founder of “because I said I would” is also the topic of today's newsletter story. By applying Alex's philosophies, businesses can create a culture of excellence, accountability, and strong relationships, ultimately leading to greater success and guest satisfaction. It is about “honoring your word” and “doing what you say you will do”. (Most People Don't). Alex's simplistic message helped to serve as a beacon for me years ago when I trademarked the three words: “Most People Don't” He has set the example that very simple words, when placed together, can have an extremely deep meaning and powerful impact. "because I said I would" Imagine my delight when we not only enjoyed a meal together, strategized, and he also agreed to be on my show. My pursuit and goal with “Most People Don't” at the fundamental level is to “encourage, inspire, and motivate others to take action”. This can relate to so many things; becoming a better leader, building better relationships, accomplishing tasks & goals, by “doing what you say you're going to do”. You CAN DO when you take an individualized approach and realize the impact of each contribution you make. It matters! During the interview we discuss: 1. The Individualized Approach Experimenting on yourself. Try to use the lessons that you've learned from others. If they work, use them to their fullest. If they don't, move on, and try something else. 2. The Importance of Three Simple Things Diet, sleep, and exercise for your health and well-being. Everyone knows this, but few conform and apply it. 3. Volunteering 75% of all Americans do not volunteer a single hour in an entire year. The bystander effect, “we think someone else will do it” 4. Why Your Efforts Matter Your individualized approach and contributions add up. If we all take action, then everyone will be taking action. Don't wait and don't be afraid to “do something when you see something”. "Whatever you do in life will be insignificant, but it is important that you do it, because nobody else will." -Mahatma Gandhi. “With great power, comes great responsibility” -Voltaire and Uncle Ben (Spider Man) How brilliant. We, You, I can control this. This is most likely one of the only things we can control. Our individual action (what we do, think, say, react, and feel) is something we control. Alex Sheen is on a mission to better humanity through promises made and promises kept. As the founder of the social movement and nonprofit “because I said I would,” Alex believes individuals can create a world where promises are kept, fostering trust, empathy, and positive change. Inspired by his father's legacy, Alex has distributed more than 14 million “promise cards” to 178 countries with the intention of bridging the gap between intention and action. Today, Alex shares how his father's accountability and commitment shaped him, how promises are more than just words—they are commitments that shape our character and define our relationships— and what it means for each of us. My friends, in a society where it's easy to leave ourselves and others disappointed with broken commitments, this conversation will remind you of the life-changing impact we can make simply by keeping our word.

Welcome to episode 147 of the Löw Tide Böyz - A Swimrun Podcast! On this week's show we have the third installment of our four-part series recapping the inaugural One Water Race. Joining us on this episode is the entire Team 3 - USA, A.K.A. Bend Racing. We've never had so many people on one podcast and we're here for it! Joining us are team captain Jason Magness, Tim Gorbold, Renee Metivier and Chris Wright. Folks in adventure racing circles are certainly familiar with Bend Racing and it was great to chat with them about their race experience. But first...Training UpdateOur 2022 Swimrun season is almost over but not before going out with a bang and a couple of Yeehaws! at Ödyssey Swimrun Austin in two weeks. We will be doing some “training” but mostly trying to keep things steady until race day. ShoutoutsOur shoutout this week goes to friend of the pod and previous guest Rick Mann. He recently suffered a heart attack during a training ride a few weeks ago. Our thoughts are with him and his family as he continues to recover…which appears to be going great since he's already crushing monster swims in the Atlantic Ocean like he used to. Feats of EnduranceThis week's winner is Glenn Wilko. He finished second in the Oceania Adventure Race on the Gold Coast of Australia over the weekend and it definitely looked like a feat of endurance. It took him (and his team) 25.5 hours to complete the 114 mile course with over 19,000ft. of elevation gain. Strong work!Bonus shoutout to our friend Danny “Da Monster” Dvinov for finishing in 12th overall (out of 2,900 participants) at Ironman California. The race conditions looked amazing and we love that they have three distance options that make the event as welcoming and inclusive as can be. We are dreaming about flying out to do both races back to back in the near future. That is it for this week. Feel free to reach out and let us know if there's anything that you'd like for us to mention on the show.Show BusinessJoin us in Pace Bend Park for an LTBz/Wild Swimrun shakeout Swimrun/FIKA on Saturday, Nov. 5th at 11am at Grisham Trail near where the cliff jump will be. We love hosting these shakeouts and this one is going to be extra special because we will have some special guests joining us including Bill and Chrissy, A.K.A. Team Mr. and Mrs. B, and Alex Sheen who are flying in from the U.K. for the race. One Water Race Part III: Team 3 - USAIt was great to get Team 3's race report. As we mentioned at the beginning of the show, Bend Racing is legendary in the adventure racing world and we learned why. In this conversation we spoke about how they got their team together, how they approached training, and got a detailed race report of their experience on the Archipelago. This was an emotional conversation since no one likes talking about DNF's but we loved their candor and humility. Enjoy! That's it for this week's show. Shoutout to friends of the pod Matthieu Poullian and Nicolas Remires who were at the event. Now moving north, the Koster Swimrun took place and dare I say that we have added another race to the bucket list. Similar to ÖTILLÖ, athletes took a ferry to the Koster Archipelago (Sweden's only marine national park) on Friday, raced on Saturday, and took a ferry back to the mainland on Sunday…after what looked like a solid breakfast. A lot of heavy hitters were are this race including Adriel Young and Max Andersson, who won the Men's division, Desirée Andersson and Anna Hellstrom won the Women's division, and Annika Ericsson and Fredrik Granström won the Mixed division…while repping for Kraken Swimrun.Moving east-ish, the 5th edition of the Swimrun Urban Challenge Dusseldorf took place and the turnout looked great! When we first chatted with Thomas about the event back in Episode 104, we knew that this event was going to be epic. Fast forward almost 10 months from that conversation and we have the race in the books, a movie about the event will be released soon, and plans are underway for next year's edition. In this conversation we chatted with Thomas about what it was like to go from ideation to execution of the race, what it was like on the ground, and what he plans on improving for next year. His passion for Swimrun, preserving nature, and epic feats of endurance shine through in the interview and we know that you will get your minds blown as much as we did.  Enjoy! That's it for this week's show. Have you ever scheduled time for your most important work?   Chances are, all of us has done this at least once. But do you regularly time block and then protect that time like the air you breathe, defending it against every distraction that comes up? For most of us, the answer is no – but why is that?   In this episode, we suggest that this is because we’re not great at keeping the promises we make to ourselves or to others – and we believe that if you can get a little more intentional about the promises you make when you’re planning your time, and the commitments you make to others, then everything else will become easier or unnecessary. Our guest, Alex Sheen, has taken this idea of a promise and turned it into a movement and a book called Because I Said I Would, which is helping people all over the world make promises that stick.   We recorded this conversation as part of our monthly ONE Thing webinar series. Every month, we feature an incredible author so that you can learn directly from them and ask questions. If you don’t have clarity on your bigger purpose, your bigger Why, it can be difficult to stick to your guns and say no when it matters.   Or maybe you need a go-to no sentence like Alex’s: “It would be easy for me to say yes right now, but I respect you too much to keep a promise I can’t keep.”   How much time do you think you’ll need to block to come up with that sentence? And how many times do you think you’ll have to practice it, even just one time a day, before it just sounds natural?
