Today I tackle another precarious topic in life after suicide loss --remember, as always, take what serves you, and leave the rest. In today's Down the Rabbit Hole, I discuss this topic of sharing our loss story --- and even greater, the story of our loved one and their life and impact on the world left behind. It matters, but why you ask? How do we gracefully navigate, deal with the unimaginable when it becomes reality? Come with me today and let's explore why we share our story with all of its intricacies and nuances ...and many things in between.AND there is still a week left to the January ONLY deals.... if you are a Survivor Mom .... reach out in January (2025) for a special discount on the Legacy Project and / or an Empowered Healing Retreat in the Caribbean. It would be my honor to do this work with you -- I wish I had opportunities like this earlier in my grief, but I didn't...so now you do! Today I tackle a doozy -- HOPE. Why is it such a tricky, sneaky thing?? Mythical like a Chupacabra, a Sasquatch or Nessy, right? It can technically be found all around us, in the smallest of places... a sunny day, a kind word, an unexpected flower on our walk... and yet, it seems to elude so many of us. The problem lies in the fact that we have to allow it in -- we have to WANT to find hope before it will be there. We must choose it. UGH. Right? So, in today's Down the Rabbit Hole I discuss this topic of HOPE in and out in order to try and demystify and encourage you to take the steps toward hope. To choose it (and why). Come with me today and let's explore, hope and guilt and many things in between.AND if you are a Survivor Mom .... reach out in January (2025) for a special discount on the Legacy Project and / or an Empowered Healing Retreat in the Caribbean. What will you leave behind when your story ends? For women in or nearing retirement, there's no greater gift than the wisdom, lessons, and experiences you've gathered over a lifetime. Yet too often, these treasures go undocumented, leaving loved ones—and the world—without the full impact of your life's journey. In this thought-provoking episode, legacy advocate and tech expert Terry Loving shares how you can take charge of your narrative and create a meaningful legacy that echoes for generations. Whether it's through a memoir, a book, or a digital project, Terry's mission is to empower women to preserve their stories before it's too late. You'll discover how “living a life that outlives you” can shape how you approach your next chapter and why it's essential to document your knowledge now—not someday. Terry introduces practical strategies to overcome the overwhelm and procrastination that hold so many back, combining the timeless concept of Ikigai (your purpose) with the transformative power of AI tools to make the process not only accessible but deeply rewarding. If you've ever felt the pull to create something that matters, don't wait. This conversation is your call to action. Start now to ensure your legacy isn't lost but cherished and shared. Plus, hear about Terry's January workshop, Designing Your Legacy with Ikigai and AI, where you can take the first step toward bringing your vision to life. Guest BIO: Terry Loving A techie at heart, Terry was online early as a middle school science teacher developing curriculum and teaching at the first online public school in the nation. Terry then started her internet business out as LOVING VISIONS creating websites (html and then focused on WordPress) for local businesses in the late 1990's in the early days of online businesses. (She calls herself an internet dinosaur.) Because a website needs to be maintained securely and is only a fancy brochure if not discovered by the search engines, her business soon evolved into LOVING MARKETING covering all aspects of relationship building through social media and email marketing. Today her passion is to help individuals produce their legacy projects in a lasting digital format so that their body of work outlives them. She also operates an agency of WordPress website services that focus on managing your WordPress site and keep it secure. John Wesley preached in fields, so this is in the water where I come from. From a really sacred experience out at the Ames' farm in Fillmore, Indiana for Ethan's Legacy Project, comes a sermon about how we might theologically grap with the heaviest things--divorce, death, and suicide--in light of God revealed in Christ who is always available to the vulnerable. Raw, provocative, and inclusive of everything from abortion to finding life on the other side of dying, this is a sweeping talk...and a tender invitation to allow your own wounds to become a source of healing for the people around you.

1 Chronicles 28:19: “All this,” David said, “I have in writing as a result of the Lord's hand on me, and he enabled me to understand all the details of the plan.” David's detailed plans on the temple were a direct result of God's hand on his life. He wasn't just a man after God's own heart, he was a man after God's own mind. He didn't just have God's heart, he had God's strategy. David didn't just have the plan, he was skilled and knew what it was going to take to build the plan. The Legacy Project combines our faith filled history and our here and now, while developing plans for a promising future. Traveling to some remote parts of Northern New Mexico can feel a little like traveling back in time. There's the slower, rural lifestyle and lack of cell reception, for starters, but in some small pockets of rural communities, people still speak a 17th-century dialect of Spanish. Encounter Culture host Emily Withnall speaks with National Hispanic Cultural Center's executive director, Zack Quintero, archivist Robin Moses, and Librarian Amy Padilla about their work to collect and preserve this ancient Spanish dialect before it disappears—which they say could happen in just fifteen years. Though the mountainous region of Northern New Mexico once helped to preserve this unique dialect, greater connectivity and the forces of assimilation have resulted in fewer native speakers. As Zack, Robin, and Amy reveal, they hope to preserve New Mexican Spanish as a part of their work with NHCC, but their investment in the project is personal, too. Susan V. Bosak of the Legacy Project suggests, “Legacy is about life and living. It's about learning from the past, living in the present, and building for the future. It is an interconnection across time, with a need for those who have come before us and a responsibility to those who come after us. A legacy may take many forms – children, grandchildren, a business, an ideal, a book, a community, a home, or some of ourselves. How many of us live so that our legacy reflects all we genuinely hold, most near and dear? How many of us are living with integrity and courage? Molecules don't connect the world. Stories, traditions, memories, hopes, and dreams connect it. The legacies connect us passed down from those who came before us and the legacies we passed down to those who come after us. For children, legacy means learning from the past. It separates the timeless from the transient. We need to tell them our life stories, our choices, and how we made our decisions. For adults, legacy means hoping for the future. It means developing and passing on a timeless part of yourself. We feel valued and valuable no matter how old we get. For both young and old, the power of legacy enables us to live fully in the present. You understand that you are part of a larger community that must remember its history to build its future." This week, our story begins with someone who did not have shoes to wear until he signed up to be in the army. However, what he did have was a dream and determination. We hear his story through the words of his son, Bruce Wesley of Wesley Sheos, in the Hyde Park Community of Chicago. For over 70 years, the Wesley family has nurtured this dream until it awakened to win a National Independent Retail Shoe Store Award. The journey in between has been filled with life lessons, overcoming racism, natural disasters, determination, creativity, and faith. Today, Wesley's is a family-owned shoe store providing an individual shopping experience to all who visit. From measuring a child's first shoe to helping you find comfort and style, we have everything you need to take your best step. This week, we celebrate the Wesley's Shoes legacy with its second-generation owner, Mr. Bruce Wesley. Be inspired! I was.

Although they count just 100 member families, Saskatoon's Congregation Agudas Israel believes there is a bright future for Jewish life in their Prairie city. Which is why the Conservative egalitarian synagogue has just completed a lengthy $3.8 million dollar renovation of their post-war-era building. Aside from improved security and accessibility, and a mikveh, it also now includes bigger space for a small but modern Jewish Community Centre, recently named after Sherwood and Elaine Sharfe: the prominent local family of philanthropists are the lead donors to the project. On the weekend of Friday June 23, current synagogue members and also former Saskatoon residents returned to the grounds of the building for three days of festivities to mark the official rededication and reopening. On this episode of The CJN Daily, we speak with the synagogue's president, Kevin Sharfe–it's his parents' names on the venue–and also with his cousin Grant Scharfstein, who spearheaded the multimillion dollar Legacy Project. Pressure And Procrastination Highlights from this episode of Crushing the Day:
When people look at a car, they tend to immediately associate it with a brand or maybe just a family name: Ferrari, Porsche and DeLorean come to mind. But in actuality it takes hundreds of people to make a car truly come to life. From the imaginations of designers to the complex calculations of engineers and programmers down thru the manufacturing process with the tool & die teams, chassis builders as well as assembly and quality assurance … and everything in between. With well over 40 years experience in the heart of American automaking in Detroit, our guest has seen it all. And in the late ‘70s and early ‘80s he could be seen running what was at the time, a state of the art 1200 ton hydraulic press, the largest of its kind in any plant. It was his job to take new development dies and make them into parts for a very special build. He fondly remembers getting the orders one day for “gull wings in stainless steel” suddenly realizing these parts were destined for the new DMC-12. With us tonight to talk in-depth about the manufacturing side of the Automotive business is Tony Vallelunga, Senior Director of Manufacturing and Quality at DNG Motors. This is a very special episode...no apologies for saying that. It IS a special episode. Today, my conversation is with four of the five moms that just completed the 13 week Legacy Writing Project that started January 11, 2023. One mom was unable to make it due to scheduling, but she was greatly missed in the conversation. I could not be prouder of their bravery and the stories they told.Today you will meet, Ellen, Aidan's Mom; Nalini, Nick's Mom; Barb, Donavon's Mom; Crystal, Taylor's Mom; and we honor Cerita (Gages mom) who wasn't with us physically but was in heart! I know you will understand by the end of the episode the magic that now exists between them! These moms each read a little piece of their chapter AND we discuss these six items with regard to the project: Why they chose this projectWhat their favorite part of the project was What the most challenging part of the project was How did the time frame (total and weekly etc) feel to them What their plans for the published book are Would they recommend the project to other grieving momsIn the years since losing my son, Alex, I discovered that moms who have lost their children to suicide have many different needs. Still, three of them seem universal - the need for resources to help them navigate this grief journey, a community of connection to other moms who 'get it,' and an ache in their hearts to be sure their child is remembered. I provide paths to the first two; this book project helps with the last piece. IF YOU ARE INTERESTED in either the April 26 OR the August 16, 2023 Legacy Project sessions please CLICK HERE NOW for more info and to schedule a discovery call with me ASAP because I expect the wait list to fill quickly. When was the last time you wrote a love letter to your family, telling them about the life lessons you've learned that you'd like to pass on? When was the last time you shared your values? Your memories? The things that you don't want your family to forget, even after you're gone?Welcome to the second episode of our four-part series that we're calling What to Know Before You Go. Penned by renowned car, motorcycle, camera, and firearm designer, Giorgetto Giugiaro, the DeLorean DMC-12 is an American sports car that debuted in 1981 and despite a brief production run, it became a bonafide automotive icon when it was thrust into the cultural mainstream. Upon the DeLorean's 40th anniversary, Spain's Ángel Guerra (a designer for both Rimac and Bugatti) was determined to bring the steel-bodied, gull wing-doored DMC-12 squarely into the 21st century with a Next Generation concept. Co-hosting for this episode is Kat Delorean along with Angel Guerra dialing in from his home in Seville, Spain to tell us all about this revolutionary new car. "Carve your name on hearts, not tombstones. A legacy is etched into the minds of others and the stories they share about you." --Shannon Adler (inspirational author and therapist) My husband's Grandpa Matt Hoffman passed away peacefully earlier this week. I had just recently really gotten to know him. Since the middle of July, I had visited him about once a week. Now sometimes I wasn't available. Sometimes he wasn't feeling well. But we got together and talked about his family, his memories, his thoughts...his life. I just brought my phone along and set it on the linoleum table between us. I'd bring up a subject and he'd talk. When he glossed over something, I'd try to get more details. Sometimes I'd repeat names to make sure I understood who he was talking about. (He often would refer to people, long gone, like they were people everyone knew.) From my first interview on July 12th, through my last interview on November 8th, I have a little over 12 hours of memories, thoughts, ramblings, laughter, and LEGACY. Now, these conversations are not a memoir. There is no storyline, no character development, he didn't speak with the goal to capture your imagination and draw you into his life. No. He was just sharing. We had conversations where I was interested in the life he lived. What did he want me and others to know...to remember? In today's episode, I'm sharing with you the beginning of our very first talk. I begin our conversation with, "The goal of this is...we just want to sit down and talk about you and your stories...what you remember from your childhood...and all the things." In the next weeks, I will transcribe his memories and put these together with pictures that I took during my visits, scanned into the computer, and then returned on my next visit. We will put this all together through Sidetracked Legacies and publish it into a beautiful hardcover book for family and close friends. This will be an invaluable keepsake for those who knew him and loved him. It will be a treasured resource to share with the children of his children's children...and their children! --- If you are interested in joining the Sidetracked Legacies Membership go to https://sidetrackedsisters.com/sidetracked-legacies-membership/ Or, if you want more information about working on a Legacy Project with Lisa, send me a message at https://www.facebook.com/SidetrackedSisters Either of these offers is exciting for you or perfect for a gift!
In 1970, writer Gordon Merrick published The Lord Won't Mind, advertised as “the first homosexual novel with a happy ending,” his fifth novel but first to focus on a gay romance story. The novel was a hit and stayed on the New York Times bestseller list for 16 weeks. Critics dismissed the work as fantastical, but Merrick, who had been a Broadway actor, newspaper reporter, and American spy before turning novelist, was writing what he knew. Despite his commercial success and enduring fan base, Merrick's contributions have been ignored and forgotten. Joining me to help us understand Gordon Merrick and his writing is Dr. Joseph Ortiz, an Associate Professor of English at the University of Texas at El Paso and author of the 2022 book, Gordon Merrick and the Great Gay American Novel. Our theme song is Frogs Legs Rag, composed by James Scott and performed by Kevin MacLeod, licensed under Creative Commons. The episode image is the original cover from the 1970 publication of The Lord Won't Mind. The Confederated Tribes of the Grand Ronde hold a substantial piece in making that happen, but they have recently withdrawn from the project. The Confederated Bands and Tribes of the Yakama Nation, The Confederated Tribes of Warm Springs and the Confederated Tribes of the Umatilla Indian Reservation have voiced concerns about Grand Ronde's motives in the project and why they feel the need for exclusivity in regard to the falls. In this episode, I'm going to walk you through five real reasons that women lose pageants and I'm going to give you some specific guidelines on what you can do about it. We're going to start broad and work out way to the more common reasons. The most common reason women lose their pageant is they simply don't have ‘the look', mostly because they haven't discovered what this pageant is looking for as the main spokesperson for their pageant. In order to win, you have to show up with your complete marketing package. The next somewhat obvious reason that you may be losing your pageant is you are too stiff – like a robot, or ‘pageant patty.' This often comes off as either not having enough practice or having too much practice. There are lots of ways to fix this problem, but the main one is: practice with real life experience! The third reason you may be losing your pageant is what I call a ‘failure to thrive.' This means that you haven't really done all that much to achieve your goals since the last time you competed. You have to show improvements and growth every year so that you can prove you'll make the most of your year if given the title. The fourth area that could be holding you back is you don't have a solid marketing plan. This is why having a Legacy Project is so important: because it allows you the opportunity to market yourself, your platform, and your pageant. In the Win A Pageant Academy we teach a simple method of Promise-Proof-Plan that prepares you for all sorts of questions (download the free training here) and ensures you deliver your marketing plan onstage and in your interview. If you are nailing the look, you have a solid plan but you still aren't winning, it could be because you are missing a personal/pageant brand. Your ‘brand' is deeper than your ‘why' for competing in the pageant – your brand is your why for being on this planet! It's your purpose and your passion. In the Academy, we help you identify your personal/pageant brand because from this, everything else can flow! Your brand is vital to winning! If you have the look, plenty of practice, thriving goals, a solid plan, and you're still not winning your pageant, then your brand should be where you begin. The very first thing that I do with all of my clients is help them identify who they are. It's so important for you to know who you are and what you are doing on this planet. When you become crystal clear on that, all those other things will easily fall into place.
