Register Today!   Brian Kilpatrick is the Chief Operating Officer of Trinity Park Conservancy. With nearly four decades of experience in the attractions and hospitality industry, Brian has built a career that spans multiple disciplines, including food and beverage, retail, finance, and operations. His journey began at SeaWorld, where he spent 35 years, and later took him to leadership roles at Anakeesta and the Artis—Naples performing arts center. Now, at Trinity Park Conservancy, he is focused on creating accessible and sustainable green spaces for the Dallas community. In this interview, Brian talks about building green space intentionally, being a good listener, and getting to know the community. Building Green Space Intentionally "We are building Dallas's Central Park." Trinity Park Conservancy's mission is to transform the Trinity River into a connected and accessible green space for the Dallas community. Brian emphasizes the importance of designing Harold Simmons Park with clear intent, ensuring it serves as more than just a recreational area—it's a space for nature, conservation, and community gathering. The project spans 250 acres and is designed to unite Dallas through a series of scenic overlooks, improved pedestrian access, and a deep focus on sustainability. Drawing from his theme park background, Brian applies best practices in operational planning to ensure the park remains well-maintained and inviting for years to come. Being a Good Listener "I've learned over the years, and again, I think it's evolved into my style today, that you really have to be inclusive of what you're going to use from a knowledge base and experience base to make a decision." Throughout his career, Brian has adapted his leadership style to focus on active listening and inclusivity. Early in his career, he admits to being more assertive, but over time, he realized the power of truly understanding the perspectives of others before making decisions. At Trinity Park Conservancy, listening plays a central role in ensuring the project aligns with community needs. Whether it's gathering feedback from stakeholders or engaging in conversations with local residents, Brian stresses the importance of hearing different viewpoints to create a space that reflects the desires of those it serves. His ability to synthesize insights from various sources, including community members and industry peers, has been instrumental in shaping the vision for Harold Simmons Park. Getting to Know the Community "I can tell you without a doubt, if I walked you through the park plan today, the elements of the park are what the community told us they wanted." Brian recognizes that for Trinity Park Conservancy to be successful, it must reflect the unique needs of the people it serves. Understanding the historical and socioeconomic landscape of Dallas, he and his team have taken a grassroots approach to community engagement. By meeting with residents, attending local board meetings, and walking the grounds himself, Brian has built connections that help inform the park's development. The Conservancy's commitment to listening to the community has led to a park design that directly incorporates their input, ensuring it fosters inclusivity and unity. Brian's leadership ensures that Harold Simmons Park is not just a project but a shared vision with the people of Dallas.   Brian Kilpatrick can be reached via LinkedIn or by email at Brian.Kilpatrick@TPCDallas.org. Greg Fuller is the General Manager of Anakeesta, a renowned mountaintop park in Gatlinburg, Tennessee. Greg started in the attractions industry at the age of 16,  working in a warehouse at Six Flags. After completing his college education, Greg stayed with Six Flags, progressing through a diverse range of roles, like Park Services Director to eventually General Manager. After working with Six Flags for 32 years, Greg decided to take on a new challenge as the General Manager of Anakeesta, where he now brings spectacular experiences and views to guests of all ages. In this interview, Greg talks about taking care of the team, the Anakeesta experience, and getting out of your comfort zone.  Taking Care of the Team   "If you take care of your team, your team will take care of you."   Greg knows that there's a big difference when it comes to being a good manager vs. being a good leader. According to Greg, exceptional leaders prioritize the well-being of their teams and cultivate an environment where employees are enthused about their work, ultimately generating game-changing results.   Greg also emphasizes the importance of soft skills. Throughout his career, Greg has taken leaps into roles where he doesn't have much technical experience. Yet, by prioritizing the well-being of his team and building a positive culture, Greg discovered that his team was able to impart the technical skills he needed for success and growth. The Anakeesta Experience   "We want people to walk away feeling they really experienced the Smoky Mountains."   Anakeesta is a very unique and special location in the Smoky Mountains. Unlike most parks, you can't just park your car and walk in. Anakeesta requires special transportation up the mountains, and it isn't until you finish the 18-minute journey that you can see the fantastic views from above.    Anakeesta is an outdoor adventure park, and is surrounded by nature. With incredible views and diverse entertainment offerings, including a brand new mountain coaster, guests will have no struggle finding something that will take their breath away. Greg also shares that the employee experience is incredible, and that it's fascinating to watch the park change through the seasons, which is something they've been marketing to guests to create a truly year-round operation.  Getting Out of Your Comfort Zone   "Don't be afraid to network. Don't be afraid to get out of your comfort zone."   With 32 years of experience in many different roles, Greg knows all about getting out of the comfort zone. Greg shares that for people looking to build a career in the attractions industry, getting out of their comfort zone is the best way to break through that wall. The industry is all about relationship building, and Greg shares that going out and finding mentors was a very rewarding experience he had.    By building these relationships and showing your passion for the industry, doors will continue to open. Greg shares that if it weren't for the people he met and built relationships with, he wouldn't be where he is today. By putting yourself out there and fostering those important relationships, you're carving your own path to be an even better attraction pro.  To connect with Greg, you can find him on LinkedIn or email him at gfuller@anakeesta.com. It's the Frank & Friends Show staff Christmas party! Frank shows off some zippered hoodies and a beach towel from the merch store. Kathryn brought the drinks. Frank has pfeffernüsse. The first drink is a “poinsettia,” made with prosecco and cranberry juice. Kathryn also added some triple sec. Frank has a stash of unopened liquor bottles but Kathryn doesn't need any of them. Kathryn took her husband on the Sevierville driving tour and to Anakeesta after having filmed episodes about them. Frank was supposed to take his wife to Anakeesta but hasn't yet. Frank's sisters sent him some drinking glasses engraved with the initials JER. Kathryn suggests that he have an E added to make it say JERE, which is Frank's wife's name. Frank says that Kathryn is his drinking buddy because he consumes more alcohol on-camera with her than he does at any other time. He doesn't enjoy drinking at parties or events. He prefers to be working at the party or event as the emcee or an entertainer. Frank saw a long-range forecast predicting especially cold weather in January. He made a sound that reminded Kathryn of the Dramatic Chipmunk meme that became popular on the Internet in 2007. Frank asked if she remembered the Numa Numa Dance video from 2005. When Frank had dial-up Internet in the mid-90s, his co-workers at KROQ were frustrated that they couldn't call him. Jimmy Kimmel called the phone company, pretending to be Frank and had call-waiting, which cost extra, added to Frank's home phone. Frank has a friend who likes to have a splash of Kentucky bourbon in her eggnog. Frank enjoys plain eggnog from Weigel's. He tried an eggnog milkshake from Buddy's Bar-B-Q but would have preferred a stronger eggnog flavor. Frank is disappointed that Starbucks discontinued their eggnog latte. Frank is surprised to learn that Kathryn never drinks coffee. Frank has a jar of fig jam for Kathryn and her husband. Kathryn watched some of The Princess Switch movies on Netflix. Frank started to watch a movie called Dear Christmas and told Kathryn to watch it because it's about a podcaster played by Melissa Joan Hart. They both shut it off after a few minutes. Frank gave up when a character named Chris Massey, played by Jason Priestly, appeared. Frank thought that creating a character whose name sounded like “Christmasy” was not believable. He later realized that an executive at Titanic Museum Attraction is named Chris Massie. Frank enjoyed Jingle All the Way but didn't like A Merry Friggin' Christmas, which was one of the last films starring Robin Williams. Kathryn's favorite Christmas movie is The Muppet Christmas Carol. Frank dislikes playing songs about winter weather on the radio in December. He would prefer to save Winter Wonderland and Let It Snow until January and February. Kathryn sings “O Holy Night” at her parents' church every Christmas Eve. Frank likes “Angels We Have Heard on High.” Here is the link to Frank's Spotify Christmas playlist: https://open.spotify.com/playlist/66AWAPdqresHlSwyMxh74Z?si=909e3d2e7d5f4bd4  Here are the ingredient for Kathryn's cocktails: * Poinsettia Cocktail Cranberry juice Champagne Cointreau * Apple Cider Mimosa Apple cider Champagne Cointreau * Apple Cider Sangria Sparkling apple cider Red wine Orange slice Cinnamon stick * Cranberry Bourbon cocktail Bourbon whiskey ½ cup Sweet vermouth  Orange juice 1 cup  Cranberry juice ½ cup Simple syrup ¼ cup Mix in a shaker with a handful of ice Strain when serving This episode is sponsored by Steve's Tree Service. The Ridge Rambler is a 42 passenger monster truck that takes you through the forest on the ground, rather than high above on a cable! But the real draw to Anakeesta is that it is an outdoor adventure park with zip-lines, a mountain coaster ride (the Rail Runner), and the world's longest tree canopy walk, with more than 16 bridges hanging 40 to 60 feet above the ground below.Recently, Anakeesta opened AnaVista Tower, a 60 feet tall tower with amazing views of Gatlinburg and the surrounding mountains. Vista Gardens, where the tower is located, is a beautifully landscaped area with manicured gardens and pathway. The views are perfect for selfies overlooking the mountains.Seth Mulder & Midnight Run entertained the crowds on the Saturday we were there and they did a great job of playing bluegrass music on the Plaza stage. FYI, they are misidentified as The Tennessee Travelers in the podcast.Coming in the Fall of 2020 is a new restaurant, more fire pits, a family water play area, and updates to many of the adventure features. Mentioned in this EpisodeMy Smoky Mountain GuideAnakeestaSeth Mulder & Midnight Run (misidentified as The Tennessee Travelers)Ripley Entertainment
