Coach Chelsea Speaks with Coach Stephanie Murphy in the 3rd Anniversary of the Podcast. Stephanie Murphy begins her first season as an assistant coach at Troy in the 2022-23 season following five seasons as the head coach at Coahoma Community College. Murphy, the 2022 Mississippi Association of Community Colleges Conference Coach of the Year, led Coahoma to a 48-10 record during her final three seasons, including a 21-7 mark during the 2021-22 campaign. The Tigers advanced to the MACCC Championship Game and the NJCAA Region 23 semifinals that season. The year prior, Coahoma finished the season as MACCC Co-State Champions, MACCC's North Division champions and Region 23 runners-up in a season that featured a 14-game winning streak. In the 2021-22 season, the Coahoma program tallied four student-athletes on the NJCAA All-Academic Second Team, with one on the NJCAA All-Academic First Team. Prior to arriving at Coahoma, Murphy coached for seven years at Brandon (Miss.) High School, five years as the head coach at Tupelo (Miss.) High School and two years as the head coach at Meridian (Miss.) High School. She led each school to the state tournament and Super Ten rankings. Murphy experienced great success at the high school level, comprising an overall record of 326-124 (.724). She reached the state tournament five times, finishing as a three-time state runner-up. She has also won six district championships, a South State Championship and was named Daily Journal's Coach of The Year in 2007. Today we're going into the OA Vault with Shawn and former Pitt basketball star and current Assistant Women's Basketball Coach, Brianna Kiesel! A native of Utica, NY, Kiesel got an early start in sports, originally playing soccer before transitioning to basketball, the sport which launched her career at Pitt. During her time there, she obtained two degrees, all while pursuing basketball and eventually being drafted by the Tulsa Shock, making history as the second ever Pitt player drafted to the WNBA.

Coretta Brown is the Assistant Women's Basketball Coach at Eastern Kentucky University. Brown comes from Georgia Southern University where she was an assistant coach since the 2019-20 season. During her time at GSU, she collaborated with the head coach on player development, recruitment, and discipline. Brown coached the guards and the offense while serving as the assistant recruiting coordinator, the director of basketball operations supervisor, equipment liaison, alumni relations contact, and the camp coordinator. Brown reviewed the game film and provided statistical reports for game operations, developed new drills for training that covered dribbling, passing, shooting, defense, offense, and rebounding techniques. Brown was drafted 11th overall by the San Antonio Silver Stars in the 2003 WNBA Draft before getting traded to the Indiana Fever where she played for three seasons. She played her final two years with the Chicago Sky in their inaugural season. Brown traveled internationally during the WNBA off-season and competed in FIBA World Championship Tournament in Russia for team USA. Before her time at Georgia Southern Brown was an assistant at the University of West Alabama from 2017 to 2019. She managed all aspects of coaching, floor offense and defense and player development. She led the team recruiting program, identified prospects, coordinated home visits and evaluations, and tracked recruiting data. Brown developed scout plans for all games. She also assisted with scheduling 30+ teams for all age group basketball camps/tournaments and provided financial management. Brown launched a new program when she became the first head coach at Thomas University from 2012 to 2017. During her time at Thomas, she managed all aspects of the program from scheduling all practices and games, communicating with referees, and coordinating uniform and equipment procurement. Brown oversaw player development, managed assistant coaches, site management, and facility maintenance, reviewed game and practice tapes, and developed game plans. Brown coached four all-conference players, one freshman of the year, one academic all-conference, two Daktronic-NAIA Scholar-Athletes and one honorable mention All-American. She has had stops at Tennessee Tech (2009-12), Georgia High School Athletics Association (2008-09), Georgia Tech (2006-08) and the Women's Basketball Coaches Association (2005-06). Brown graduated from the University of North Carolina in 2003 where she received a bachelor of arts degree in African American Studies with a minor in English. Cascio arrives at App State after enjoying a successful career as a high school basketball coach for 16 years in Louisiana with three teams. He has a career mark of 333-163 while posting 12 straight winning seasons. In his 16-year tenure, Cascio has advanced to five Louisiana High School Athletic Association State Final Fours, highlighted by a state championship in 2012, captured seven district titles, and won seven Coach of the Year awards. In 16 years as a head coach, he's led his teams to nine, 20-win seasons and a pair of 30-win campaigns. In his most recent stop at Catholic High School, he led them to an impressive 174-77 record since 2013 while advancing to four final fours, capturing four district titles, and four Coach of the Year awards. Cascio coached Christian Life Academy from 2010-13, where he was 75-20 with a state title and three consecutive seasons with 20-plus victories. In his first coaching gig, he led Catholic of Pointe Coupe to its first playoff appearance in seven seasons and doubled its win total between 2007-08 and 2009-10. Cascio has conducted basketball clinics across the country while giving mentorship and consulting experience at the international, NBA, NCAA, High School, AAU, and youth levels in part with Courtside Consulting. Courtney Kust '13 became Hope College's Assistant Athletic Director of Events on July 1, 2019. She also serves as assistant women's basketball coach. Kust has been a member of the Hope College women's basketball coaching staff since the 2014-15 season. She helps with recruiting responsibilities, scouting reports of opposing teams and player skill development. In 2018, Kust was named a member of the Women's Basketball Coaches' Association "Thirty Under 30 Class," a distinction that recognizes 30 up-and-coming women's basketball coaches age 30 and under at all levels of the game. Former Division I standout Kristin (Drabyn) Wodrich enters her fifth season as the UIndy head coach in 2020-21. After earning her first head coaching position in the spring of 2016. A native of nearby Avon, Ind, Wodrich took over after spending the previous three years as an assistant coach at crosstown IUPUI. Wodrich served as the recruiting coordinator under head coach Austin Parkinson, as well as the academic liaison, head of guard player development and the manager of opponent scouting responsibilities. Prior to returning home to Central Indiana, Wodrich served as the head assistant coach at her alma mater, the University of Maryland Baltimore County (UMBC), from 2011-13. While assisting head coach Phil Stern, Wodrich had a number of duties at UMBC, inlcuding serving as the program's recruiting coordinator, head of player development, lead opponent scout, academic liaison and head of alumni relations. Before joining the UMBC staff, she assisted 12-time Patriot League Champion head coach Bill Gibbons at the College of Holy Cross in 2010-11 where she helped out with scouting, recruiting, practice planning, guard development and video coordination. Wodrich broke into the coaching community in July 2008 when she was named a graduate assistant at Texas Tech University, where she assisted with the day-to-day operations, video responsibilities and the organization of summer camps. She graduated from Texas Tech with her Master's degree in sport management in 2010. As a player at UMBC, Wodrich was a four-year letter winner for the Retrievers from 2004-2008 and helped guide the team to the 2007 America East championship and a spot in the NCAA Divisoin I Tournament. She was named to the America East All-Conference Third Team as a senior in 2008 after averaging 11.4 points per game. She graduated in 2008 with a bachelor's degree in interdisciplinary studies with a focus in broadcast communications and exercise physiology. Today I visit with Mark Huelsman, the Head Women's Basketball Coach at Ohio Northern University. Coach Huelsman played Division III basketball at Wittenberg University before starting his coaching career. He spent 6 seasons as the Assistant Women's Basketball Coach at Wilmington College (OH)before joining the staff at ONU in 2013. The ONU women won 20 or more games in each of Mark's first 5 seasons with the program, including a 30-1 season during 2016-2017 that ended with a loss in the Elite 8 of the national tournament. Currently, Rastogi serves as an Assistant Women's Basketball Coach at Brandeis University in Waltham, MA. Prior. Rastogi coached girls basketball at the scholastic level in Maryland, Virginia and Washington, D.C., for the past seven years. In 2018-19, as the head varsity coach at South County High School in Lorton, Virginia, he coached his team to a record-breaking season. The team achieved its first-ever ranking in The Washington Post (#18), as well as set school records for points in a game (81), 3-pointers made in a season (124), assists in a season (308), and points in a season (1257). Before that, at W.T. Woodson High, he helped the program host its first district playoff game and appear in its first regional playoff game in 5 years while rebuilding the program over three years. During this time, Rastogi developed 9 different all-district players and coordinated the first-ever girls elite camp in the history of Northern Virginia girls basketball. Prior to that, Rastogi spent 2012-13 at Division I Virginia Commonwealth University as Director of Player Personnel and Interim Director of Basketball Operations. We speak with Danielle about her experiences as a player at Boston College, her mentors who have impacted her career and life. She shares about her start in coaching at Harvard, her experience as a Head Coach at Kent State, and her battle with Stage 2 lymphoma in 2014. Dani speaks about how through her relationships her career has come full circle, as she now works with one her former players, Minnesota all-time great Lindsay Whalen. Dani explains what makes Lindsay unique in her approach to coaching, recruiting, player development, and practice planning.
