Christians often think about evangelism in terms of what we say. It can easily become a formula of the right words spoken in the right way that amounts to faithfulness. In many ways, this is an entirely appropriate way to think. However, it's also an incomplete way to think: our witness to the world is not just with our words, but also with our how we live our lives. We testify to the gospel as we live transformed lives. As we think about reaching cross-culturally with the gospel, _how_ we live is often as important as anything else. People want to see that following Jesus is a liveable way of being. This, of course, doesn't mean that everything in life will be easy. But even in hardship, in the real cost of discipleship, we can demonstrate the goodness of God in Christ, living with real hope. In this episode of the CCL podcast with Clive Buultjens and Ben George, we consider the significance of the Christian life as we reach out to Hindus with the gospel. Some key things on the horizon! 1. We have our first Leadership Summit on February 11. The conversation will be lead by elder Jennifer Crow! She is amazing. Jennifer and Ben George helped design the conversations. Kudos to them:) The day is open to anyone who has a heart for God's mission in the world, and moving the church forward. Several people from outside our system will be there. To learn more or signup, visit: https://mvpresby.org/leadership-summit/ ; if you can not sign up on line, just send me an email. 2. Terri Bate is our new Director of Mission Development, her job is to raise funds so that we can call, train, and send local mission partners (missionaries) to work with churches around eastern Ohio. The mission partners will help churches engage and love their communities and emphasize both physical and spiritual care. To connect with Terri, save her contact information: https://linqapp.com/terri_bate 3. We firmly believe that every church deserves 3 forms of leaders in this day: a) organizational leaders who can align the work of the church to the mission of God, b) pastoral leaders whose central focus is to equip others, and c) local mission leaders who help congregations love their local communities. One way we do this is through church partnerships. We have one partnership established and are excited that we have 2 others in progress. We are always looking for ways get these forms of leadership in every church, Presbyterian or not. 4. If you are new to our podcasts, there are a few great podcasts to nourish you and get you up to speed. You can listen through a web browser, or app on your phone. The most recent is “Birthing Jesus,” in is a recap of a Christmas sermon I gave at Reedurban Presbyterian Church during Advent: https://open.spotify.com/episode/0SV7lwJc577beJe8aj4UFo?si=jH_4Jn4_TTKY7hTSd9HFdA This message is gentle and encouraging while it calls the church to birth Jesus in the world; The second is called “Ministry Pipelines” with Pastor Mike Smith, and is focused on how to reach the masses, serve a subsets, and welcome as many as possible into a Christian community. https://anchor.fm/matt-skolnik/episodes/What-are-your-3-ministry-pipe-lines-e1qcijt/a-a8qoh88 5. We have changed contact information in the past year, and we are trying to stay in touch better. To save Matt's contact information, follow the link below, and click “save contact,” then “download contact.” Terri's contact information works the same way. https://linqapp.com/matthew_j_skolnik We want to do better at staying in church. As elders, please sign up for our emails, so you can be up to speed on the exciting things that are going on around the presbytery. Currently, there is a sign up box at the top of our webpage https://mvpresby.org 6. Finally, we are in a mode of equipping. We have a wonderful training that is designed to help individuals build skills and comfort with praying out loud with and for others. To learn more see: https://mvpresby.org/prayer-lab/ You are welcome to join one of the upcoming Prayer Labs, or work with Matt to schedule one in your area. Thanks for everything! Much love, Matt
In academia, most scientists publish their ideas and stop there. But if we want our breakthroughs to benefit society, we have to take it a step further. So, what does it look like to commercialize scientific research? What mindset do academics need to work at the intersection of science and industry? Ben Lamm has a career of building successful deep tech businesses, and George Church has a career of commercializing academic science. Together, they are the cofounders of Colossal, a breakthrough bioscience and genetic engineering company that is pioneering animal de-extinction technology to restore lost ecosystems for a healthier planet. On this episode of Boost VC, Ben and George join us to explain how bringing back the woolly mammoth addresses climate change and explore their approach to the ethical concerns around de-extinction. They discuss the benefits of Colossal technology beyond Arctic rewilding, describing how their work helps endangered animals and promotes conservation. Listen in for Ben and George's insight on commercializing science and learn how to get comfortable enough with risk to turn academic ideas into industry. This week myself and George are joined by Manchester United fan Ben. We cover the latest two victories in a strong start to his Chelsea career for Tuchel and get Bens thoughts on whether Chelsea have more of a chance of finishing in the Top 4 now he's in charge. We move on to discuss United and where their season is at the moment having hit a patch of a few poor results, where they need to strengthen and if Ole should be sacked if they win nothing this season. We debate if anyone can stop Manchester City marching to the title and what is going wrong at liverpool. We finish by discussing the standard of officiating in the country at the moment and as always answer your questions.
This week we dive deep with Andrew's mentor, Bennie George on a wide variety of topics focused on making you a well rounded hunter and woodsman. Subjects range from the unorthodox tactics Bennie has used to kill bucks his whole life, how hunting things besides deer is vital to your growth as a hunter, finding a good spot to deer hunt using squirrels, spending enough time in the woods to get that "sixth sense", along with a few hilarious stories!
In this episode of the Black Swamp Football Show, Patrick Henry AD and co-defensive coordinator Ben George talks about the importance of schools opening back up and student-athletes returning to sports.
This program is the first in our recovery series to bring you all out of the coronavirus pandemic. You will hear the latest information on how we are safely caring for non-COVID-19 patients and why many treatments unrelated to coronavirus must still be performed, especially as it relates to this Saturday's topic “Cancer Surgery in the Era of the COVID-19.” For those of you who may be concerned about coming to the hospital for so-called “elective surgery” – and perhaps more importantly, for those of you concerned about coming to the hospital if you have abdominal pain, chest pain or other concerning symptoms – we will tell you why it is safe. We have recently seen patients with serious illness, unrelated to the virus, who have delayed coming to the medical center because of a fear of acquiring SARS-CoV2 - this should not be the case. In this program, we will tell you why our medical center is safe and the amazing things being done to keep it that way. The Word on Medicine was the first to bring you the truth on COVID-19 testing and treatment, the first to uncover the challenges posed by healthcare disparities and we will be the first to bring you out of the “fear of the virus.” Our medical center and the all-star lineup of doctors, nurses, advanced practice providers and many more are here to help all of you! Tune in this Saturday at 4pm (we will also replay this program on Sunday at 3pm) to hear from Dr. Clark Gamblin, Dr. Amanda Kong, Dr. Karen Kersting, Dr. Ben George, Dr. Gary Seabrook, Dr. John Laur, Dr. Nathan Ledeboer, Dr. Tracy Wang, Gabriella Pyptiuk (APNP), Natalie Lang (APNP), and four grateful patients, sharing their recent experiences.
