While searching for a video of Bruce Springsteen playing his iconic hit “Born to Run,” I stumbled upon a video of Emmylou Harris singing “Born to Run.” Now, here's the fascinating surprise: Emmylou is singing an entirely different song written by Paul Kennerly. And this song really rocks. Released in 1982 as the second single from Harris' album Cimarron, “Born to Run” reached number 3 on the Billboard Hot Country Singles & Tracks chart. Emmylou Harris sings like an Angel. She is a Country Music Hall of Fame inductee. I put Emmylou into my Hall of Fame alongside other Angels by the names of Eva Cassidy, Nanci Griffith, Linda Ronstadt, and Kate Wolf. Here's my cover of Paul Kennerly's “Born to Run.” Chapters (00:00:11) - Well I Was Born To Run

Barry and Abigail discuss Brothers in Arms by Dire Straits and sample Wild Dog – Pale Ale and Wild Dog – Shempa Ale from Tiemann Beer in Lusaka, Zambia; Strawberry Rhubarb from New Glarus Brewing Company in New Glarus, Wisconsin; Coconut Key Lime Pie Drips and Mischievous Grin from Barn Town Brewing in West Des Moines, Iowa; and Gallo / Famosa from Cervecería Centro Americana in Guatemala City, Guatemala.Read about how the Money for Nothing music video came to be, or watch the video. We first sampled New Glarus on our season 4 Christmas episode, Christmas Beers (Straight No Chaser and Gifted Beers).Barry pointed out that Walk of Life references other songs, and Abigail compared it to American Pie by Don McLean.Abigail formally retracted a fun “fact” she had previously shared on the podcast regarding artificial banana flavoring being based on the Gros Michel banana instead of the Cavendish banana, which is the most common banana cultivar eaten today. The 2013 SciShow video where she first learned this false fact has since been edited to remove any reference to this hypothesis but points to this article that explains the hypothesis. This Hank Green video first brought the debunking of this hypothesis to Abigail's attention. We first sampled Barn Town on our season 4 episode Barntown (Phish and Barn Town Brewery).Abigail called Why Worry an “adult lullaby,” similar to Calm Down by Cory Chisel and the Wandering Sons. She then entered Why Worry into the Abigail Hummel School of Speaking Smartly About Music with a comparison to Little April Shower from Bambi (1942). She also brought up Baby Genius by Eels as having instrumental similarities. Barry mentioned Rain by Hans Zimmer from Spirit: Stallion of the Cimarron (2002). The “vibes” in the personnel list likely refers to the vibraphone, which could very well have produced the rain sounds in Why Worry.Abigail asked if Mischievous Grin would count as a “cream tangerine” (we have officially gone zero episodes without mentioning the White Album!).Barry had heard that the three war songs on this album were inspired by the Falklands War between Argentina and the United Kingdom that lasted for a little over two months in 1982. Abigail had always pictured the Vietnam War, partly because of the imagery in Ride Across the River, and partly because Abigail's consumption of war media was heavily influenced by The Things They Carried by Tim O'Brien, a novel about the Vietnam War.While discussing The Man's Too Strong, Abigail referenced an in-character speech by comedian and professional Dungeon Master Brennan Lee Mulligan.Up next… Version 2.0 by Garbage, Abigail's annual Phone-a-Friend submission, this time with Carlo “from Canada” Sgro, the namesake of Carlo's Corner!Jingles are by our friend Pete Coe.Visit Anosmia Awareness for more information on Barry's condition.Follow Barry or Abigail on Untappd to see what we're drinking when we're not on mic!Leave us a rating or a review on Apple Podcasts or Spotify!Facebook | Instagram | Bluesky | YouTube | Substack | Website | Email us | Virtual Jukebox | Beer Media Group

Surface Metals (CSE:SUR) - Dual-Track 2026: Cimarron Drilling + Lithium PEA Ahead

Interview with Stephen Hanson, President & CEO of Surface Metals Inc.Our previous interview: https://www.cruxinvestor.com/posts/surface-metals-csesur-former-lithium-player-pivots-to-nevada-gold-with-walker-lane-project-7467Recording date: 21st November 2025Surface Metals Inc. (CSE: SUR) has strategically positioned itself across two commodity cycles through its April 2025 acquisition of the Cimarron gold project in Nevada whilst maintaining a diversified lithium portfolio anchored by a 300,000+ ton LCE resource at Clayton Valley, California. This dual-commodity approach provides investors with exposure to gold's current bull market and lithium's structural electrification demand.Following recent meetings on Wall Street and Bay Street, President and CEO Steve Hanson reports renewed institutional appetite for junior and mid-cap mining opportunities. Major banks including JP Morgan, Goldman Sachs, UBS, Deutsche Bank, and HSBC forecast gold reaching $5,000 per ounce in 2026, driven by central bank accumulation, interest rate dynamics, and geopolitical tensions. Simultaneously, lithium markets show stabilisation following the 2023-2024 correction, with institutional interest returning to quality projects. The Cimarron gold project, located in Nevada's prolific Walker Lane trend approximately 35 kilometres south of Kinross's Round Mountain mine, benefits from extensive historical work conducted by Newmont and Echo Bay during the 1980s-1990s. Surface Metals has digitised this historical database and created three-dimensional geological models, positioning the company to commence phase one drilling in early 2026 with clear targeting rationale. The programme aims to confirm historical high-grade intercepts, validate a non-43-101 compliant resource, and expand towards a million-ounce target. Shallow oxide mineralisation suggests potential heap leach processing economics - a lower-cost development pathway relevant for junior companies.Surface Metals' lithium portfolio demonstrates geographic and geological diversification across three projects. The Clayton Valley brine project sits immediately northwest of Albemarle's Silver Peak operation - North America's only producing lithium brine facility operational since 1966. The company targets a preliminary economic assessment in 2026, evaluating direct lithium extraction technology offering faster processing and higher recovery versus traditional evaporation ponds. Neighbouring operator SLB's 2025 demonstration facility successfully produced lithium from similar brine chemistry, de-risking technology application.Fish Lake Valley represents exposure to sedimentary claystone lithium mineralisation, sitting contiguous to Ioneer's Rhyolite Ridge project backed by Ford, Toyota, and Panasonic offtakes with 2026 construction commencement planned. Surface Metals actively seeks joint venture partners to fund initial drilling. In Manitoba, NASDAQ-listed Snow Lake Resources earns into the company's pegmatite project through funded exploration whilst Surface Metals maintains carried interest without capital outlay.Capital efficiency distinguishes Surface Metals' approach. The company has reduced operational costs whilst advancing projects through partnership structures and targeted technical work avoiding dilutive capital raises during unfavourable market conditions. Sector consolidation reduced lithium-focused companies from 200-250 to approximately 60, with Surface Metals amongst survivors maintaining intact portfolio positioning to capture recovery momentum.Management contemplates multiple value realisation pathways including asset sales, joint ventures, or corporate restructuring to separate gold and lithium portfolios. In market conditions where commodities experience distinct cycles, portfolio separation could unlock valuation disparities whilst providing shareholders direct exposure to preferred commodity themes. All projects benefit from tier-one North American jurisdictions with established infrastructure, proximity to operating mines, and relatively streamlined permitting. Nevada exploration permits typically achieved in 90-120 days. As gold supply deficits emerge from major producers exhausting high-grade reserves, and lithium supply security achieves strategic priority, Surface Metals' portfolio positioning addresses structural market dynamics favouring quality junior mining opportunities in premier jurisdictions.View Surface Metals' company profile: https://www.cruxinvestor.com/companies/acme-lithiumSign up for Crux Investor: https://cruxinvestor.com

There are many classics that went on to take home the top prize at the Oscars.  And there are those that, well ... let's just say that we still shake our heads why certain films got on the Academy voters' good graces in such a way that they were chosen as Best Picture of that year.  At the fourth Academy Awards ceremony, Cimarron was selected as the best film.  However, after almost a century later the question isn't really if it deserved it, the question is "how could that have happened?"  Well, this Wesley Ruggles epic does have the scope and the stars to at least attempt to justify its win.  The writing, technical aspects, and the acting say otherwise. Listen to film critic Jack Ferdman's take on it as he evaluates everything that has to do with Cimarron, as well as many other films from that year, and hear which film he gives his Rewatch Oscar of 1930.Download, listen, and share ALL Rewatching  Oscar episodes.SUBSCRIBE and FOLLOW Rewatching Oscar:Website: https://rewatchingoscar.buzzsprout.comApple Podcasts/iTunesSpotifyGoogle PodcastsiHeart RadioPodchaserPodcast AddictTuneInAlexaAmazon Overcasts Podcast Addict Player FMRSS Feed: https://feeds.buzzsprout.com/1815964.rssWebsite: https://rewatchingoscar.buzzsprout.comSocial Media Links: Facebook, Twitter, LinkedIn, Instagram, BlueSkyShare your thoughts and suggestions with us through:Facebook Messenger or email us atjack@rewatchingoscar.com or jackferdman@gmail.comMusic by TurpacShow Producer: Jack FerdmanPodcast Logo Design: Jack FerdmanMovie (audio) trailer courtesy of MovieClips Classic TrailersMovie (audio) clips courtesy of YouTubeSupport us by downloading, sharing, and giving us a 5-star Rating.  It helps our podcast continue to reach many people and make it available to share more episodes with everyone.Send us a text

It's a long word to type, “broadheads”. Lot's of letters in there. Let's call them bh for now.  Crossbow BHs are ostensibly rated for higher speeds and force to deal with the speeeeeeeed the speeeeeeeeed. Lot's of nonsense on the internet about needing solid steel ferrules and not aluminum ones but that shit is in the bolt/arrow, not the broadhead.  I suppose there's only one way to test this, which is to shoot some into a target and see what happens.  Short story is I got an open box deal on bolts, and I want to marry those bolts to cheaper broadheads and continue the beaver harpooning. Could just toughen up and zero the .308 but the nice part about the crossbow is I can zero it right there next to the truck and get going without the additional time to get to the rifle range. Also because it's cool. Vince   Disappointing hat Killed an armadillo  Did a little bit of hunting with the son, turns out some deer are smart Flagstaff Greyboe Rifle Stock has got me MOIST News and World Events Initiative 82 https://leg.colorado.gov/content/wildlife-and-ecosystem-conservation-commission-0 Wyoming Corner Crossing going to the Supreme Court?

While the Anglo-American style was to use heavy artillery to control threatening bears, the vaqueros preferred to rope them from the back of a well-trained horse. Spent a couple nights with Dave and his stepdad.  Had a really good time with them. Camping on the cot was cold, but under the cot.  Need more insulation there.  Little Buddy heater worked terrible.  Kept shutting off after five mins. Got it to work for 30 mins once.  Then got up and just got to it Howd the hunt actually go Got to a spot they told me about about 90 mins before sunrise.  Got some great pics but didnt see any animals.  Went for a walk, saw nothing, went back to truck. Proceeded to 4x4 all over the gd mountain.  It was an absolute blast.  Ope, a wheel slipped.  Okay…brake, 4LockLo and crawl right over anything.  Kinda cool Found one herd and saw a fork horn.  Texted squeezer and he lightly convinced me to chase.  Chased, found tracks, bedding and water but they were poof. Headed back to camp for a bit to rest, and then went back out to a different spot.  Cruised around that loop for an  hour or so, making hikes up the mtn every now and then.  Absolutely gorgeous 4x4 trail. Finally found a herd of nine does and spotted a fork horn.  Drove right on by and pretended I didn't see them Parked and snuck up staying low and behind hills and rocks.  Got close and was able to ID the fork, but didn't have a shot.  He moved, so I just stayed still and patient.  Most of them didn't care and went about their day but one had her eyes and ears on the rock I was behind the whole time.  She knew I was there. Finally ID'd the fork and got ready.  Steadied up and squeezed.  I saw him jump, and bolt, but I knew it was good.  Climbed up to where he had disappeared and found him exactly where I expected to.   Cooler, crime scene and knives. Send us a textThe prairie doesn't forget—and it won't let us forget either. We follow a chilling thread from a 96-mile irrigation scheme called the Eureka Canal to a vanished laborer whose story was buried in snow, silence, and someone else's balance sheet. What begins as a Halloween ghost story widens into a study of hubris, place, and the quiet power of naming the lost.We unpack Asa T. Soule's rise from hop bitters fortune to Western empire building, and how the canal promised a new Eden but ran headlong into the Arkansas River's fickle flow, upstream diversions, and soils that drank hope dry. Cimarron's resistance to Soule's political muscle frames the stakes: when capital treats geography and democracy as obstacles, the land and its people push back. Alongside the spectral sightings at the ditch, we track records, letters, and courthouse files to a name—Silas Croft—whose ruined farm in New York and final steps into the 1886 blizzard turn rumor into history. When the storm returns and a haunted rage rattles the Cimarron Hotel, brute force proves useless. Truth does what bullets can't: we write the obituary Silas never received and publish an expose that rebalances the ledger. The wails fade, the canal goes quiet, and a simple cross on the prairie replaces fear with remembrance. From there, the story pivots to legacy and choice: fame back East or roots in a town that values ground truth. We choose the pressroom over the spotlight, because progress isn't measured in ditches or dollars—it's measured in decency, accountability, and the names we refuse to lose.If you believe stories can right old wrongs and that journalism still matters when the wind starts to howl, hit play, follow the show, and share this episode with a friend. Send us a textA storm-torn trench. A vanished name. And a legend that clings to the Cimarron plains like dust to a boot. We follow the rise and ruin of Soule's Eureka Canal—hailed as progress, mocked as folly—and the night the sky split open and swallowed a worker named Silas Croft. What started as an audacious plan to force water through stubborn Kansas earth becomes a ghost story that refuses to settle, stirring questions about pride, loss, and the memories the land won't release. We trace the arc from Asa T. Soule's grand decree to the shovel-scarred ditch that cracked under weather and will. Along the way, we sit with the unsettling details of that gale, the mud-choked banks at dawn, and the whisper that Silas never left. The tale opens a wider window on Western folklore, where frontier ghost stories double as cautionary tales—reminding us that ambition has a cost and landscapes have their own laws. Whether you hear a restless spirit on the canal's edge or see only wind teasing the reeds, the mystery pulls you back to the same question: what truly happened when the ditch took its due?If frontier history, haunted legends, and eerie prairie nights are your kind of campfire, this Halloween special delivers a chill with a heartbeat. Press play for a tightly told story, rich atmosphere, and a few goosebumps, then tell us what you believe. Things slowed down; birds weren't flying so we took the boat out and went after em Straight to the islands I wanted to hit this time of year.   There was a whole herd of deer on the biggest island and it's at least a half mile swim.  Wonder if they swam out there or got stuck when it thawed. Snuck up on some geese.  Not really sneaky or stealthy in a canoe but, it worked.  They didn't care about us and we got close enough for me to swat one.  Caternary is a bitch. Moved on down the islands and found like 8 dozen ducks, some more geese and a few cormorans.  Don't shoot cormorans. He took a shot and missed at the swarm of ducks.  I had an opportunity for the geese that lit off but didn't have my gun in my hands so, whatever. We rowed off elsewhere, and in the process a Gadwall headed straight for us.  I dropped it with a nice splash. started heading back for the trucks and honed in on some more geese.   Kept a slow approach but they did not care one iota about us.  Their mistake. Managed to close in 50 yards, swatted one, dropped a second as they “fled”.  Buddy shot two.  The rest of them just kinda hung out like “Frank!  Henry!  Noooo!”  I would have shot two more, but I couldn't remember the limit so  I left it.  Turns out it's five, not three. Packaged up the geese and froze em and made duck teriyaki with the breasts.  Nom nom nom. All in all I am feeling much more comfortable with the Advocate and the 1187.  Not thinking about shots, just going by feel.  Except for caternary… that's a bitch. Right after that, some boat pulls up and yells at us about goose season.  Dave Pheasants Forever  New pack New binos Cimarron and Comanche National Grasslands fuckery? On this week's episode, Bud shares stories of growing up in south Florida, working cows, hunting, fishing, and generally enjoying the backwoods of our state whether from horseback or the seat of an airboat. We discuss how rodeo carried him west where he met his wife and built a ranch and thriving business in Oklahoma. That he genuinely cares about people and the land is abundantly clear which is why forming Cimarron Land Group was a natural fit for him. Bud is able to channel his passion for cattle, spending time in the outdoors, and his years of experience with both into assisting people with finding  the right land on which to build their legacies. The Old West in America is filled with stories about cowboys and Native Americans and outlaws and lawmen. This was a time when a man could die in the streets with his boots on or at the poker table holding the Dead Man's Hand: a pair of aces and a pair of eights, all black. Cimarron, New Mexico was a prominent place in the Old West and the St. James Hotel was built there in 1872. Cimarron was a wild town that played host to a veritable who's who of old west gunmen, lawmen, gangs and famous performers like Buffalo Bill Cody. The hotel itself was witness to at least twenty-six deaths. And now the hotel seems to be playing host to spirits. The hotel is reputed to be quite haunted with at least seven identified spirits. Interview with Stephen Hanson, President & CEO of Surface Metals Inc.Our previous interview: https://www.cruxinvestor.com/posts/acme-lithium-acme-despatches-from-the-lithium-front-line-3054Recording date: 14th July 2025Surface Metals (CSE:SUR), formerly Acme Lithium, has successfully executed a strategic transformation that positions the company for value creation across two critical commodity sectors. Under CEO Stephen Hanson's leadership, the company has pivoted from pure lithium exploration to gold development while maintaining its valuable lithium asset foundation. The strategic shift emerged from pragmatic market realities as lithium prices declined and EV demand slowed over the past 18 months. Rather than abandoning the long-term energy transition thesis, Hanson explained the rationale: "As a board and a management team we started to evaluate our assets and say listen we work for the shareholders. Creating shareholder value is my number one priority."The centerpiece of this transformation is the April 2025 acquisition of 90% of the Cimarron gold project in Nevada's renowned Walker Lane trend. Located just 14 miles from Kinross's Round Mountain mine, the property boasts impressive historical data from major companies including Newmont and Echo Bay. Historical intercepts include 26 meters of nearly 5 grams per ton gold, with surface samples reaching 120 grams per ton.The project benefits from Nevada's world-class mining jurisdiction and favorable geology, featuring a shallow epithermal system with mineralization extending to surface. This configuration offers significant cost advantages and exploration potential beyond the existing 50,000-ounce resource, with targets for expansion to over one million ounces.Surface Metals maintains its lithium portfolio as strategic foundation value, including a 300,000-ton lithium carbonate resource in Clayton Valley and successful partnerships like the Snow Lake Energy joint venture in Manitoba. With holding costs of only tens of thousands annually, the company can maintain these assets through market cycles.Trading at approximately $5 million Canadian market cap, Surface Metals offers investors dual commodity exposure at an attractive entry point. The company plans drilling at Cimarron by early 2026, following systematic database modernization and permitting processes that typically require 90-120 days in Nevada's streamlined regulatory environment.View Surface Metals' company profile: https://www.cruxinvestor.com/companies/acme-lithiumSign up for Crux Investor: https://cruxinvestor.com

The movies we viewed for this RKO 1931 Studios Year by Year episode couldn't be more different: the sprawling Cimarron (starring Richard Dix as America's psychotic inner conflict) prompts us to speculate about Edna Ferber as a source auteur and the intertwining of her vision of America with Hollywood across three decades; while the tight, play-like Traveling Husbands (starring Evelyn Brent as a bitter sex worker with noble impulses), demonstrates the pressures capitalism exerts on men and therefore on women. But together, these movies show that the Pre-Code is good for a lot more than just sex-and-crime titillation.  Time Codes: 0h 00m 25s:    CIMARRON [dir. Director Simon Otto is here to chat failed Christmas gifts, formative films, and finding the balance of a multithreaded storyline story and having to take into account theatrical experience versus streaming consumption. This interview contains mild spoilers for That Christmas. More about Simon Otto Simon Otto is the Director of That Christmas. He started his directing career on the Netflix animated series Dragons: Race to the Edge and Trollhunters: Tales of Arcadia. Most recently, he directed the Love, Death & Robots episode ‘The Tall Grass' and developed, executive produced and served as the Supervising Director on the successful Netflix series, A Tale Dark & Grimm. Prior to turning to directing, he spent over 20 years working at DreamWorks Animation, most notably as the Head of Character Animation on the Oscar-nominated How to Train Your Dragon trilogy. Born and raised in Switzerland, Simon studied animation at the prestigious Les Gobelins Animation School in Paris, France. More about That Christmas Based on the charming trilogy of children's books by beloved multi award-winning writer/director Richard Curtis (FOUR WEDDINGS AND A FUNERAL, NOTTING HILL, LOVE ACTUALLY, YESTERDAY), THAT CHRISTMAS follows a series of entwined tales about family and friends, love and loneliness, and Santa Claus making a big mistake, not to mention an enormous number of turkeys! This heartwarming comedy from Locksmith Animation marks Curtis' first foray into animation, serving as the film's writer and executive producer, and also the feature directorial debut of renowned animation veteran Simon Otto (LOVE, DEATH & ROBOTS, HOW TO TRAIN YOUR DRAGON FILMS). Nicole P. Hearon (MOANA, FROZEN) and Adam Tandy (THE THICK OF IT, DETECTORISTS) are producers.
