It's Gemini time! The hotly anticipated 120-frames-per-second feature film Gemini Man has finally arrived, and we were there to witness it opening night in all its 3D high-frame-rate glory! In the intro to this Lodgecast, we tell the tragic tale of seeing director Ang Lee's first 120fps feature film Billy Lynn's Long Halftime Walk (2016). After that bomb, studios somehow let Ang Lee direct another movie at 120fps. They also let him digitally de-age Will Smith so he looked about the age of his son Jaden Smith. The results are spectacular and we'll tell you all about them! This movie also stars Mary Elizabeth Winstead, Clive Owen, and Benedict Wong.
For our very special 100th episode, we take a break from Taylor Swift's discography to discuss the Joe Alwyn masterpiece "Billy Lynn's Long Halftime Walk."
Blank it, thank it! J.D. Amato (The President Show) returns, in the last episode of our mini series devoted to the filmography of director Ang Lee, to discuss 2016’s high frame rate Iraq War drama, Billy Lynn's Long Halftime Walk. But what makes this movie so revolutionary? What is the evolution of frame rates in film? Who are the shortest and the tallest actors according to IMDB? Together they examine the history of cameras from film to digital, the BIG3 basketball league and never doing an episode on The Happytime Murders. David Lynch is done making movies, MTV has ditched gender awards and Edge of Tomorrow is living, dying and repeating. And repeating. Oh, and Ridley Scott's new Alien movie is out. Also: I Am Not Your Negro, Billy Lynn's Long Halftime Walk, Cube, Robin Hood: Men In Tights, They Live, The Fog, Christine, Village Of The Damned.
On our newest episode we speak with author Ben Fountain whose novel was the basis for the Ang Lee film Billy Lynn's Long Halftime Walk.
As Ron Howard observed in one of our previous episodes, Ang Lee is a filmmaker with a quite extraordinary range. He followed the majestic Oscar-winning Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon with comic book joyride Hulk - before bringing us Brokeback Mountain, Lust Caution and The Life Of Pi. Such a diverse array of subject matter has very different musical requirements, with Tan Dun, Mychael Danna, Danny Elfman and Alexandre Desplat among the composers he’s worked with. And these collaborations are exactly what we’re here to discuss on Soundtracking – a weekly podcast about screen music with Edith. Ang’s latest movie is Billy Lynn's Long Halftime Walk. Starring young British actor Joe Alwynn in the title role, it tells the story of a soldier returning from Iraq who’s suffering from post-traumatic stress disorder. From the point of view of score, the narrative posed a new set of challenges for the Taiwanese director - given that much of the action unfolds in a sports stadium …

Director Ang Lee discusses his new film, Billy Lynn's Long Halftime Walk, with Robert Weide. The film tells the story of Billy Lynn, a 19-year-old Army Private who is hailed as a hero in the US after a battle in Iraq. Brought home for a victory tour culminating in a spectacular halftime show at the Thanksgiving Day football game, Lynn experiences a series of flashbacks that reveal what really happened to his squad.

Greetings no-maj's, and welcome to a podcast that talks about a lot of stuff your world simply won't be able to comprehend. Christopher Cross and Dylan Schwan recount the adventures of Newt Scamander in the new film, Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them. Directed by David Yates, written by JK Rowling and starring Eddie Redmayne, Ezra Miller, Katherine Waterston, Colin Farrell, and Dan Fogler, this is a prequel to the events of the Harry Potter films. We talk all about our distaste for David Yates, whether the film is fun or just too dark, and Chris shares his theory for how this will tie in more directly with the Harry Potter films. We also have plenty of blu-ray releases including Kubo and the Two Strings (which we reviewed), and Dylan has a bevy of news, as always. But more importantly, Dylan watched a bunch more movies. He saw The Edge of Seventeen, which many have compared to a John Hughes film, as well as The Love Witch and Billy Lynn's Long Halftime Walk (in 120 frames per second too). It must be awards season! Next week, we will be back with even more films to discuss like Manchester by the Sea, Nocturnal Animals, Loving, and probably Moana.

Like many of you, we're still trying to process everything that has happened since we last did a podcast. Movies work best when they are a distraction from life that can also help illuminate life: When you write about movies, you are really writing about life. That's all sorts of Super Serious Pablum that ultimately just adds up to: We're not going to let the horror that Tuesday night has conjured stop us from babbling like idiots about movies. We hope you don't mind. Thus! This week we dig into the surprise science-fiction hit "Arrival" starring Amy Adams, the Jeff Nichols drama "Loving" and Ang Lee's 120-fps war drama "Billy Lynn's Long Halftime Walk." Then, in our Reboot segment, we look at the foster care drama "Short Term 12," starring Brie Larsen right before she won her Oscar. Timestamps: 6:15 "Arrival" 21:38 "Loving" 38:50 "Billy Lynn's Long Halftime Walk" 49:45 "Short Term 12" We hope you enjoy. Let us know what you think @griersonleitch on Twitter, or griersonleitch@newrepublic.com. As always, give us a review on iTunes with the name of a movie you'd like us to review, and we'll discuss it on a later podcast. Also, Grierson is our first American President who has starred in multiple soft-core pornographic films. Learn more about your ad choices. Visit megaphone.fm/adchoices
Thank you for joining us again for another episode of Trailer Park Podcast. Tonight is episode 69 and it is special for a few reasons. The first reason is that the lineup is book ended by movies involving Denis Villeneuve and Jake Gyllenhaal which basically means Nathan is filled with warmth and hope for the duration. The second reason is that there is no Burden List segment for episode 69. If you listen to one side they may weave a magnificent tale of good and evil and this fiction involves an act of betrayal that forces us to walk this path that ultimately leaves you, our fans, wanting more. However, the other side will simply offer you a heartfelt apology and hope that this does not tarnish our reputation as gentlemen. Ivan and The Intern join Nathan and Daniel as we check out Arrival, Manchester by the Sea, The Monster, Billy Lynn's Long Halftime Walk and Nocturnal Animals. Stick around for the Roundtable and the Intern Archive Update.

On this 44th podcast, I am joined by a special guest, Entertainment Weekly's Joey Nolfi. We cover a lot of ground in this podcast (which hits the 2-hour mark): from Viola Davis's submission in Supporting for Fences and what that means for the Best Actress and Best Supporting Actress categories now to Moonlight and if its critical impact will equal Oscar nominations. Best Actress, as usual, gets heavy rotation as we talk about our likely nominees; Emma Stone in La La Land, Natalie Portman in Jackie and Annette Bening in 20th Century Women but also those who round out a very rich category this year - Isabelle Huppert (Elle), Ruth Negga (Loving), Amy Adams (Arrival), Jessica Chastain (Miss Sloane) and of course, Meryl Streep (Florence Foster Jenkins). UPDATE: There is a spoiler regarding Manchester by the Sea at around the 1hr 20m mark that I forgot to edit out. I recommend that you skip forward to about 1h23m to keep from being spoiled on a specific plot aspect of the movie. I apologize to anyone who listened to the podcast and is upset by hearing the spoiler. We dig into Best Picture and its frontrunners and wonder if there's something on the outside that we're missing. With former heavy hitters like The Birth of a Nation and Billy Lynn's Long Halftime Walk (which Joey talks extensively about) falling by the wayside, it means other contenders like Arrival and Hidden Figures become stronger while 'steak eater' films like Sully or Hell or High Water must be considered. The podcast closes with an 'original' piece by Joey featuring Beyoncé and Diane Ladd.
In this 43rd Oscar podcast, I am pleased to welcome special guest Kyle Buchanan of Vulture.com. Most of the conversation centers around the Best Actress category as it is a wealth of possibility this year. Natalie Portman (Jackie), Viola Davis (Fences) and Emma Stone (La La Land) land in the in 'sure thing' positions (although Kyle has some thoughts about Davis...) but what then? Annette Bening (20th Century Women), Isabelle Huppert (Elle), Amy Adams (Arrival and Nocturnal Animals), Meryl Streep (Florence Foster Jenkins), Ruth Negga (Loving), Taraji P. Henson (Hidden Figures) and Jessica Chastain (Miss Sloane) all seem to have paths to the final five. We talk about what role an Oscar pundit has in advocacy for a film in the race We also talk about what role an Oscar pundit has in advocacy for a film in the race and chat about how 'Oscar Bait' has become quite the pejorative in pundit talk, using Kyle and Mark Harris' fantastic piece on it as a jumping off point. We also discuss how early major contender Billy Lynn's Long Halftime Walk was cut short by awful reviews at the New York Film Festival. Check out the most up to the minute predictions from the Gold Rush Gang starting right here.

Regular co-host Randy is back and there is much rejoicing. We discussed BILLY LYNN'S LONG HALFTIME WALK by Ben Fountain and HOPE FLOATS starring Sandra Bullock. We also had time to cover JESSICA JONES, MASTER OF NONE, SPY, MOM, and YOU'RE THE WORST. And right out of the gate, Randy has a correction: There was a disconnect between my brain and my mouth, which I blame on the cold medicine I was taking. I DO know the differences between "single-cam" and "multi-cam". YOU'RE THE WORST is obviously a single-cam sitcom, not a multi-cam sitcom. And when I say "I'm kind of over multi-cam sitcoms", I should have said "I'm kind of over single-cam sitcoms."
Jonathan Miles is the guest. His new novel, Want Not, is now available from Houghton Mifflin Harcourt. Dave Eggers, writing for The New York Times Book Review, says "I loved this book…the work of a fluid, confident, and profoundly talented writer…it’s a joyous book, a very funny book, and an unpredictable book, and that’s because everyone in it is allowed to be fully human.” And Ben Fountain, author of Billy Lynn's Long Halftime Walk, says "In this powerful, blisteringly funny novel, Jonathan Miles makes a startling discovery: We are what we throw away. It’s in our castoff goods, edibles, chances and people that our authentic selves are revealed; or, as one of his many memorable characters puts it, 'garbage [is] the only truthful thing civilization produced.' Miles mines the depths of waste so artfully that by the end of this extraordinary novel, we’re left with the suspicion that redemption may well be no more, and no less, than an existential salvage operation."
