Thank you to Gabriela for commissioning this episode! I'm very excited about the way this series has started out, because it has managed to make me care about characters almost immediately which is not an easy thing to pull off. The narrator is a really fun choice, and the absurdity of the series of events is well lampshaded and made to feel truly possible. I'm very much looking forward to more of this. Thank you so much for listening, and I will see you soon with a new episode!

Audience members call in and chat and give their guesses on how much my check was for my work on JANE THE VIRGIN. Also, Sebastian and I took a trip to Mount Pleasant, NC not long ago to visit Southern Grace Distillery and we did a little whiskey-tasting. How do I handle 130-proof corn whiskey? You have to see this. And in SMALL TOWN NEWS, a Home Inspector was caught on camera masturbating with an Elmo doll. He was caught red-handed! Live on Facebook, Tuesday nights at 8:00 pm ET! Today on the show we have writer, producer and director Brad Silberling. I had the pleasure of meeting Brad back in 2005 at my first Sundance Film Festival. He was very kind with his time and gave me some great advice. His feature films include City of Angels starring Meg Ryan and Nicholas Cage, Moonlight Mile, starring Jake Gyllenhaal, Dustin Hoffman and Susan Sarandon; Lemony Snickett's A Series of Unfortunate Events, starring Jim Carrey and Meryl Streep; 10 Items of Less starring Morgan Freeman, Land of The Lost starring Will Ferrell, as well as his debut film, the family classic Casper, produced by Steven Spielberg. In television, his growing stable of hit series include the critically acclaimed comedy Jane The Virgin as well as the period drama Reign, contemporary reboots Dynasty and Charmed, and the new Disney Plus series Diary of A Future President. He is a graduate of the UCLA School of Theater Film and Television where he earned his masters degree in production, following his bachelor's degree in English from UC Santa Barbara.Brad and I had an amazing talk about the business, warts and all, what it was like having Steven Spielberg as a mentor and how he built his directing career.Enjoy my conversation with Brad Silberling.
What's up y'all of little faith and welcome to season 2, episode 18 of TFP! I'm your hostess, not your Moses, Mat Hayes, and if I'm still giving you episodes, it means that I am still looking for peace in the unknown. Y'all, if you follow anything about my life, you'll know today's guest. Daniel Robaire is one of my dearest friends. We met when we played husbands and fathers on an episode of Jane The Virgin back in 2017. Our characters were literally named Upset Dad #1 and Upset Dad #2. We hit it off and have been close ever since. He also played my husband in my award winning film, Cognitive, that swept the festival circuit, and in a roundabout way, led me to doing this podcast! Daniel is a fabulous and hilarious actor, but during Covid, like everyone else, we lost our industry. As creatives, we went crazy because we didn't have anywhere to express our inner creative. Daniel literally picked up a paintbrush for the first time during the very early days of lockdown, and he is now a renown watercolor artist known as Robert Maurice, specializing in male nudes. He of course does other subjects, but his homoerotic artwork is absolutely incredible. In this episode you'll hear all about how he got started in discovering this hidden talent, and how it informs his relationship with his other artistic endeavors. This guy, for better or for worse, is family. I love him dearly and I'm excited for you to get to know him better as well. Welcome to the show, my forever Upset Dad, Daniel Robaire.

Today's show is One Big Bloody Bluegrass Pigskin! Intern Isaiah has a new HAYSEED GEN-Z movie review for us! Isaiah talks about the movie LOGAN LUCKY starring Adam Driver, Channing Tatum, and Daniel Craig. What did he think about the movie? And can the COUNTRY-ish crew talk about movies with the temptation to spoil them for everyone? Are you ready for some Football? In BEST TRENDS, Jon and the crew talk about the upcoming Appalachian State University and University of North Carolina football game... where the Tar Heels are the underdogs. What does producer The Alan Jackson, a UNC grad, have to say about this? What's everyone's predictions for the big game? #WhatNotToWearAtWork is also trending, which gives Jon a chance to make some constructive criticism about Elliott the Intern and his choice to wear cologne in the studio. In SMALL TOWN NEWS, a Hooters waitress was caught dipping chicken wings in her vagina. Jon thinks this story seems a little fishy. There are some serious crimes possibly being committed here, but the boys all have fun with the story and enjoy some of their own chicken wings. But come to find out later in the episode... was it even a true story? Jon welcomes his friend, fellow comedian, and TV host LEE CRUSE to the show to talk about his syndicated talk show LEE & KELSEY, take a quiz about his home state of Kentucky, and talk a little football. You can find more about LEE & KELSEY by searching for them on Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, and Twitter. Then it's time to give away more of Jon's money in this week's edition of HOW MUCH IS THAT SCREEN ACTORS GUILD RESIDUAL CHECK? This week the residual check is from an episode of JANE THE VIRGIN that Jon was in. Jon selects three listeners at random to play the game. What was their guess for the residual check amount? And did they even see JANE THE VIRGIN? It took me a while to get through (I think I just didn't want to watch Michael and Jane reunite) but I've finally finished season 2 of Jane the Virgin and DO I HAVE THOUGHTS. Mostly revolving around the fact that I really am like Jane except the fact I wouldn't have gone back to Michael, but I digress. Rogelio became a real stand out favorite of mine the second half of the season. The late second half didn't have as much of my attention, but they really went straight out of a telenovela in the last few minutes and I'm just trying to decide what I'm most shocked about. Listen now and stay tuned for season 3's live watch on instagram and recap podcast here. --- This episode is sponsored by · Anchor: The easiest way to make a podcast. https://anchor.fm/app
This week on BEFORE THE BREAK, the boys sit down with actor, Tiffany Yvonne Cox. She has appeared in such shows as Space Force, Dead To Me, Santa Clarita Diet, Grey's Anatomy, How To Get Away With Murder, Jane The Virgin, and had a recurring role on Good Trouble. We discuss becoming a mother during the pandemic, her involvement with SAG-AFTRA, growing up as a military brat, learning the ropes from summer theatre internships, making the switch to TV, moving markets to L.A., making a game plan for success, the importance of relationships and collaboration, the desire to do more in the industry than just acting, not being afraid to go out and travel, leaving co-stars behind, booking a role on Saturday and filming Monday morning, and how a friend connection led to her biggest role yet. Le dijimos sí al osito de gomita, y ahora ¿a cuál pretendiente le damos el sí?Hay decisiones que influyen en nuestra vida y en el caso de la protagonista de esta historia la cambian por completo. Continuing on our emotional support watch of summer 2022, I have a lot of thoughts on Jane the Virgin season 2, mostly that we've entered the bad place (aka her and Michael reuniting). After giving birth to Mateo, she and Raf enter a shaky co-parenting life that isn't made any better because Michael. Won't. Go. Away. Until he does that is. Petra has also thrown a wrench in the storyline after turkey basting herself with Raf's actual last sample and getting pregnant with twins. Jane tries online dating while Raf is going THROUGH IT and Michael continues to be a a fairly bad detective. Listen now for all my thoughts on episodes 1-10 of season 2 and come back later for the second half of season 2 which I can only assume is officially the bad place: Jane and Michael's reunion. #teamrafael --- This episode is sponsored by · Anchor: The easiest way to make a podcast. https://anchor.fm/app
I know, I know, Jane The Virgin originally aired from 2014-2019 but I'm finally getting around to watching it. Honestly, I couldn't think of a better time than summer 2022 to pick this as my emotional support show. I'm chatting all my thoughts on season 1 as a first time watcher and boy, do I have thoughts on Jane Gloriana Villanueva's life. Mostly - HOW can you take a second look at Michael after you see Rafael Solano???? Okay, well I have more than that, but that's the most important thought. I'll be back with each season as I continue my journey (I fear season 2 is taking us straight to the bad place of Jane and Michael), but you can also catch all my live thoughts on Instagram at SockBunStudios as I watch new episodes most nights of the week. Until then though, #TeamRafael --- This episode is sponsored by · Anchor: The easiest way to make a podcast. https://anchor.fm/app

TV is forever a fave topic on Matter of Fat and is the focus of a silly goofy start to season 5. Cat and Saraya are back to apply their same lens in Matter of Fat to a seemingly random series of TV shows… some old, some very old. MoF Considers may not be the most prolific or well-researched assessments of these TV series but contain lots of hot takes, too many spoilers to count, and colorful commentary… all as a matter of fat. Thanks so much to supporters who send a little Fat Cash or wrote us a review in order to have early access to these episodes before their initial release! Editors - Fred Raskin ACE, Greg D'Auria and Gregg Featherman PEACEMAKER editors Fred Raskin ACE, Greg D'Auria and Gregg Featherman have worked together going back many years, just never all together on the same project. For the HBO Max spinoff of James Gunn's THE SUICIDE SQUAD, the three have combined their collective talents to create a series that balances comedy, action and drama with Gunn's signature style. PEACEMAKER is an American television series based on the DC Comics character Peacemaker. It is the first DC Extended Universe (DCEU) television series and is set after the events of THE SUICIDE SQUAD. The series follows jingoistic killer Christopher Smith / Peacemaker as he joins "Project Butterfly"; a black ops squad that targets extra-terrestrial parasitic butterfly-like creatures. FRED RASKIN ACE In looking for an editor and Associate Producer for his first DC tv series, James Gunn had to look no further than an old friend from his Marvel days, editor Fred Raskin. Fred worked with Gunn on both Guardians of the Galaxy films, as well as Peacemaker's origin film, THE SUICIDE SQUAD (2021). In addition to his work with Gunn, another prominent director that Fred is known to cut for is Quantin Tarantino. Fred handled the editorial duties for Django Unchained, The Hateful Eight and, most recently, Once Upon a Time in Hollywood. GREG D'AURIA Editor Greg D'Auria has crossed paths with Fred Raskin on more than one occasion in their careers. Also a veteran of the "Quentin Tarantino Extended Universe", Greg has worked as assistant and editor on films such as KILL BILL: VOL 1 (2003) and DJANGO UNCHAINED (2012). D'Auria also lent his editorial talents to films like FAST & FURIOUS 6 (2013) and F9: THE FAST SAGA (2021). GREGG FEATHERMAN While PEACEMAKER marks the first time that Gregg Featherman has worked with Raskin, he was assisted by editor Greg D'Auria on the films MUSIC OF THE HEART (1999) and TEXAS RANGERS (2001). Although the earlier part of his career was primarily in feature film, Featherman has spent most of his career editing tv series such as; ENTOURAGE (2005-2011), SHAMELESS (2013-2015) and JANE THE VIRGIN (2015-2016). “Supergirl” is in its 6th and final season on the CW. Since Season 4, Azie Tesfai has played James Olsen's sister Kelly Olsen. Her character's arc includes a relationship with Supergirl's sister Alex Danvers and her new quest as the superhero vigilante Guardian. Tesfai makes her debut as Guardian in the 12th episode of season 6, an episode which Tesfai herself co-wrote. Doing this made Arrowverse history as the first actor in any Greg Berlanti-produced series to pen an episode on any of his shows. Desfai is the first Eritrean/Ethiopian actress to play a superhero EVER. Azie added some personal touches to the episode, including her character exiting an Ethiopian restaurant with her mother's name in the opening scene of the episode, an homage to her Ethiopian mother, who had life-long dreams of opening her own Ethiopian restaurant. Azie was also very involved in every element of creating her costume for the Guardian—making sure to utilize the gold of her Eritrean roots. Tesfai is best known for playing homicide detective Nadine Hansan in the critically acclaimed, Golden Globe-nominated series “Jane The Virgin,” which ran for five successful seasons on the CW. Tesfai is also the founder and CEO of Fortuned Culture, an accessories line that was launched with TOMS Shoes Marketplace and sold in Bloomingdales. 100% of proceeds from each piece benefit charities in Ethiopia, Mexico, and Cambodia. Each piece symbolizes the human needs that people desire: health, love, faith, wisdom, balance, and more and with each purchase, these needs are fulfilled for someone less fortunate.

Justin Baldoni is best known for his role as Rafael, the bad boy heartthrob from the TV series ‘Jane The Virgin.' In the real world, Baldoni is on a very public mission to “undefine” a version of masculinity he says is hurting men “far more than it's helping us.” He's doing it by telling deeply personal stories — about losing his virginity (it was without his consent, he says), about his battle with addiction to pornography, and about the insecurities he faced while working with actor Gina Rodriguez. “The more I talk about myself, the more I teach, the more I share this stuff, the more I become also self-aware and recognize things in the moment,” Baldoni told Art of Power host Aarti Shahani. “It's liberating.”

"Jane The Virgin" star Justin Baldoni explains how his new book, "Man Enough: Undefining My Masculinity," helps readers think outside of the traditional definition of masculinity. Baldoni's ultimate goal is to share the connection and joy that can be found for anyone who identifies as male on the journey away from “enough.” A journey instead to masculinity that is undefined, complex, sensitive, open, and rooted in the connection between the head and the heart. In this episode, we discuss: What is man enough? What It Really Means to Be Brave How the effects of traditionally defined masculinity have become one of the most prevalent social issues of our time. Strength and vulnerability, female empowerment, relationships and marriage, racial justice, bullying, gender equality, body image, work-life balance, and fatherhood. So what exactly made this series so endearing? Stay tuned!
Today, we'll be discussing the ground-breaking English-language telenovela that radically changed the way the Millenials view abstinence, IVF, hotel moguls, and identical twins: Jane the Virgin! Jane the Virgin had a humble enough premise: A young virgin in a relationship with one man ends up artificially inseminated with the baby of another man, by that second man's gynecologist sister. What could have easily delved into comic absurdity, with bad punchlines and a laugh track, one instead became the foundation of a romantic comedy-drama that was warm, moving, family-centered, and thoughtful. So what exactly made Jane the Virgin so beloved? Stay tuned!

Noted romcom fan Mindy Kaling has been tasked by Hulu to bring the world a series adaptation of the 1994 feature film Four Weddings And A Funeral, and noted romcom fan Linda Holmes is joining us to talk about whether this ever should have happened! Around The Dial has us discussing HBO's A Black Lady Sketch Show, the series finale of Jane The Virgin, and the end (we hope) of Big Little Lies. Linda makes the case for the induction of The Good Place's "Dance Dance Resolution" into the Canon; then after naming the week's Winner(s) and Loser, we move on to a Game Time that soars. Get out of the rain (or hadn't you noticed?) and join us! GUESTS
Hulu dropped Veronica Mars a week sooner than anyone expected, but Kathryn VanArendonk was ready to leap into action and join us in a VERY SPOILER-FILLED discussion of Season 4! Around The Dial takes us to Frankenstein's Monster's Monster, Frankenstein on Netflix; a spoiler-free farewell to the imminently-ending Jane The Virgin; Last Chance U; and a potpourri of TV-adjacent remarks from Dave (including an update on the original book version of The Rook). Leanna cashes in her Extra Credit to get us to pick TV characters who deserve theme songs. Then Tara makes the case for One Day At A Time's "Strays" to be inducted into the Canon. Then we name the week's Winner and Loser, and kick off a new season of Game Time with Sitcom Keyword Search. Post up on the couch with Pony and listen in! GUESTS
Game Of Thrones is finally back, and so are Kim and Jim, partly because Tara and Sarah have no real idea what's going on on the show but also because we treasure their insights on everything from Lady Mormont, to whether Jon and Dany have chemistry (no), to whether ANYONE in any kingdom is wearing a hat (no, and Jim has questions about that). After discussing important matters like dragon kibble, we went Around The Dial with CBS reality shows, The Magicians, Bosch, and Bless This Mess, and Dave sneak-previewed part of our Patreon-only discussion of incorrect spin-offs. Charles put us in the box with Pembleton with a Homicide: Life On The Street submission for the Canon, and while casting agents for streaming services were winners, Lori Loughlin and Massimo Targetini were losers...aaaaagain. Did Tara's non-regulation Game Time fill our hearts with song? Does Euron look like Pacey Witter? And why is Tyrion's one-liner game (as it were) going downhill? All those answers and more in an all-new Extra Hot Great. GUESTS
