And now it's time for something completely similar, folks. AKA we did another Ang Lee movie that one time. Anyhoo, this week the fellers discuss Ang Lee's wartime satire (?) Billy Lynn's Long Halftime Walk. Is this a case of a source material's tone being lost in the adaptation? Why is Steve Martin in this movie? How does Vin Diesel go up against expectations and give the best performance in this movie (not a knock, it's a good one)?! Filming at 120 frames per second - why? Did we need the romance that maybe should've been more obviously satirical instead of a seemingly straight-forward subplot? All this and more in this week's episode! Next week: Monks. Send us a textWelcome back to another blockbuster episode of Fabulous Film & Friends, our 95th to be precise, and I do apologize for the delay in production. But kids, I'm a working man and if you want a more reliable and steady stream of FFF episodes, be sure to like and subscribe to the channel on Youtube or Buzzsprout, et al. And by all means tell your friends about us! So! This week! We're going to make up for lost time and come out swinging to face not one but two of Joel and Ethan Coen's finest features in their impressively long and ever changing catalog of top hits: 2007's No Country for Old Men starring Tommy Lee Jones, Javier Bardem, Josh Brolin, Kelly MacDonald, Garret Dillahunt, Tess Harper, Stephen Root and Woody Harrelson and 2013's Inside Llewyn Davis starring Oscar Isaac, Carey Mulligan, Justin Timberlake, Garrett Hedlund, Adam Driver, Max Casella, Stark Sands, F. Murray Abraham and John Goodman. I'm your host Gino Caputi and this week I have 80% of my team of the regulars back, starting with outdoorsman and frontier type from Salt Lake City Utah, no stranger to captive bolt stunners he, the one and only Burton Brown! Then there's my book smart kid sister Roseanne Caputi who has read all of Cormac McCarthy's novels 10x each, Texas Hypnotherapist and professional coin flipper Joe Field and the man whose peak years were spent sporting his signature Anton Chigurh Prince Valiant hairdo and black denim jacket, Gordon Alex Robertson! Before we cross into a never-ending circle of physical pain, broken-hearts and dashed dreams, the synopses: In No Country for Old Men the paths of Texas Sheriff Ed Tom Bell, a mysterious hitman named Anton Chigurh, and Vietnam veteran Llewellyn Moss collide when Moss stumbles upon $2 million at the site of a drug deal gone wrong. When Moss decides to keep the money, he finds himself in the crosshairs of the ruthless and relentless Chigurh, while Sheriff Bell struggles to keep up in a world spiraling beyond his control and comprehension. Inside Llewyn Davis chronicles a tumultuous but typical week in the life of its eponymous hero, an acerbic struggling folk singer in 1960s Greenwich Village. As Llewyn Davis ambles from gig to gig and friend's couch to friend's couch during a harsh New York winter, with a quick spirit-crushing sojourn to Chicago, he is faced with an unshakable truth that talent and artistic integrity may not be enough to break into an unforgiving music scene.Follow the FFF Facebook page!https://www.facebook.com/groups/fabulousfilmandfriends Like and subscribe on Youtube
It is a privilege to welcome actor John Hickman to The Jake's Take with Jacob Elyachar Podcast. John had always been interested in acting, but it wasn't until he won the opportunity to play a part in True Blood that he realized it was a path for him. His first scene on the HBO series turned into several more, and soon he became a part of Joe Manganiello's “wolf pack,” which included the opportunity to work with live wolves in Season Five. John Hickman also worked on shows like The Originals and The Vampire Diaries on the CW. As a go-to character actor, John worked alongside some of Hollywood's biggest names, such as Bruce Willis, Ed Harris, James Franco, Nikki Glaser, Peter Facinelli, and Pierce Brosnan. While his acting career was taking off, he was secretly battling an alcohol addiction. After filming four films back-to-back, John wound up in the hospital due to his drinking. However, it was an on-set meeting with Al Pacino that led him to get clean and sober. While detoxing on his next set, the Emmy and Oscar-winning actor pulled him aside one day and told him he needed to improve. John took that life-changing advice to heart and went to rehab, returning later to finish the film. In addition to acting, John is dedicated to philanthropy. In 2011, he established the John Herman Hickman Foundation to aid victims of natural disasters and provide scholarships to the children of Peco Foods employees. His charitable efforts also extend to the West Alabama Humane Society and other organizations. On this episode of The Jake's Take with Jacob Elyachar Podcast, John Hickman discussed how he got into acting later in life, how an encounter with legendary actor Al Pacino changed his life, and his work on GUNNER (starring Morgan Freeman and Luke Hemsworth) and Barron's Cove (starring Garrett Hedlund, Hamish Linklater, and Brittany Snow).Let's connect on social media! In this week's episode of Bingeworthy, our TV and streaming podcast host Mike DeAngelo is putting out a hit on other shows to discuss “Tulsa King.” The Paramount+ series follows a former Mafia capo exiled to Tulsa, Oklahoma, where he builds a new criminal empire with a group of unlikely misfits. The crime dramedy series stars Sylvester Stallone, Andrea Savage, Martin Starr, Garrett Hedlund, Jay Will, Frank Grillo, and more. READ MORE: ‘The Old Man': Jeff Bridges & Amy Brenneman Discuss Their Spy Drama, ‘Tron: Ares', ‘Heat' & More [Bingeworthy Podcast] Joining Bingeworthy to discuss season two of the hit series is writer and showrunner, Terence Winter (“The Sopranos,” “Boardwalk Empire,” “The Wolf of Wall Street”). Winter took over the show early in season one's development for creator Taylor Sheridan (“Yellowstone,” “Wind River”), who was overrun by all things "Yellowstone" and its related projects. After season one rumors began spreading that Sheridan and Winter butted heads over the direction of the series, Winter quit the show, but was ultimately convinced to return for season two. During the interview, Winter cleared the air and explained the situation in his own words. --- Support this podcast: https://podcasters.spotify.com/pod/show/theplaylist/support
Welcome to Cyberpunk Cinema – the Definitive Dive into the Dark Future of Science Fiction. I am your host, Anthony La Pira, and I will be taking you on a cinematic journey through the sprawling cityscapes, the crippling datastorms, and the cybernetic implants that encompass all things Cyberpunk. In this week's episode, I will be breaking-down the great lega-sequel 2010 cyberpunk movie, Tron Legacy – directed by Joseph Kosinski, written by Edward Kitsis and Adam Horowitz, starring Jeff Bridges, Garrett Hedlund, Olivia Wilde, Bruce Boxleitner, and Michael Sheen. The son of a virtual world designer goes looking for his father and ends up inside the digital world that his father designed. He meets his father's corrupted creation and a unique ally who was born inside the digital world.Tron Legacy is one of the best cyberpunk films of this century. It holds a special place in my heart because I showed this film to my 4-year-old son back in 2011 and it became one of the first films that he obsessed over. We watched it dozens of times together and I was shocked by how much more I loved it watching HIM experience it through his eyes. It made the film that much more poignant, especially with the father/son angle in the film. Let's just say, this viewing definitely got me teary-eyed. So, do me a favor – it's time to access your cranial jacks, boot up your Ono-Sendai Cyberspace 7, and slap on your damn mirror-shades. You know what time it is! It's been a while since true crime writer Ellison Oswalt had a bestseller, and the strain is starting to show on Ellison, his wife Tracy, and their kids Trevor and Ashley. Local law enforcement isn't keen on him, either, as his last few books didn't cast them in too fond a light. So Ellison and his family take up residence in a modest Pennsylvania ranch house with something of a history – something we learn when we watch as a family is lynched in the house's back yard. Unfortunately, this may be his last chance at the big time, so Ellison neglects to inform Tracy of this, and when things start going bump in the night, and the home movies left behind reveal ominous clues about a killer's identity, Ellison finds himself turning from the hunter to the hunted. A helpful deputy steps in to assist, as well as a professor of the occult, but by the time they reveal their own information, the situation has devolved from strange… to sinister. Nadine Crocker joins Jessica Kantor this week on Raising Cinephiles. She discusses her journey to directing Desperation Road, her approach to getting intimate performances and inspiring her son to direct. See Desperation Road in theaters and support a visionary director. View the trailer here. Nadine Crocker is an award-winning director, writer, actress, and producer whose journey has been anything but conventional. An advocate for mental health awareness and suicide prevention, she brings a sense of herself to anything she undertakes. Her second film, filmDesperation Road (Lionsgate), is a tale of struggle, revenge, and redemption and will be released in theaters and on demand on October 6th. The Southern noir thriller based on the novel of the same name by Michael Farris Smith is a labor of love for Crocker and stars Garrett Hedlund, Willa Fitzgerald, Mel Gibson, and Ryan Hurst. Her first film, the award-winning independent feature Continue, is based on her true-life experience of surviving a suicide attempt when she was 23. Her intent was to make a film where she could not only tell her story but help others from taking their own lives. The film premiered at the Cinequest Film Festival and continues to play the festival circuit with an eye toward a theatrical release in the coming year. In addition to her work as a filmmaker, you may recognize Crocker from her acting work in Eli Roth's remake of Cabin Fever (with flesh falling off), playing Scorcher on CW's Supergirl, or as Juliet in Hallmark Channel-esque Rodeo & Juliet on Netflix.Movies Discussed include:The Sixth SenseBad SantaPulp FictionBarbieRequiem for a DreamGirl InterruptedWinter's BoneCléo from 5 to 7Point BreakDesperation RoadToy StoryCarsE.T.Paw Patrol: The Mighty Movie New Episodes Every Wednesday!EPISODE CREDITS:Host, Producer, Editor: Jessica KantorBooker: Noelia MurphyBe sure to follow and tag Raising Cinephiles on Instagram
On this episode of BEHIND THE LENS we take a look at two films that speak to redemption, finding one's self, hope, faith, and inspiration and hear from two passionate and talented filmmakers as NADINE CROCKER talks about DESPERATION ROAD while KYLE WILLIAM ROBERTS discusses WHAT RHYMES WITH REASON. First up is my prerecorded exclusive interview with director NADINE CROCKER talking about her new film DESPERATION ROAD. A story of redemption, DESPERATION ROAD is a Southern noir thriller written by Michael Farris Smith based on his novel of the same name. Stunning cinematography and powerhouse performances by Garrett Hedlund, Willa Fitzgerald, Mel Gibson, and a breakout performance by Pyper Braun pull you deep into rural Mississippi as twists and turns make the road to redemption a desperate one for more than one person. An energetic and upbeat conversation with Nadine in which we dive deep into the minutiae of making DESPERATION ROAD lets you know what a gifted and attentive storyteller and filmmaker she is. Then take a listen as co-writer/director/editor KYLE WILLIAM ROBERTS joins us live talking about his new film – WHAT RHYMES WITH REASON. An inspiring and hopeful film for families and teens tackling issues of grief, loss, depression, anxiety, and teen suicide that takes us on a journey with 6 friends who come together after a tragic accident and venture into the wilderness to find a legendary, and perhaps mythical, landmark. Along the way, each is buoyed by their friendship and faith as they face the darkness within themselves. Wonderful performances. Breathtaking forested locations. Shot on location in Oklahoma with 16 locations in 18 days, Kyle and I discuss everything from research and crafting the script, finding locations, taking advantage of natural light, casting an ensemble and character development, score and needledrops, the need for a family film like this in the world today, and more. http://eliasentertainmentnetwork.com

The New York Times declared Andrew Levitas “has the Midas touch” when describing his continued work across multiple creative platforms. A mainstay on the New York and European art scene for over two decades, Levitasʼ Metalwork Installations® are widely regarded as a breakthrough in connecting photography, sculpture, and contemporary art. Levitasʼ “Organic Abstractions” (paintings built from homemade pigments and organic materials ‒ in some cases entire trees) have also received critical acclaim. Levitas is one of only a handful of American artists ever accepted to show with the prestigious Société Nationale des Beaux-Arts held at the Louvre. Select exhibitions include: Metalwork Photography®: A Survey which was the first ever single artist exhibition at Phillipʼs Berkeley Square in London, Levitas: An Early Retrospective at New York University, and Metalwork Photography®: Sculptures at Phillips de Pury & Co. in Manhattan. Recent acquisitions include The National Museum Wales as well as 10 Downing Street. Levitasʼ award-winning fine art engages with the same themes that are seen in his films. Minamata, Levitasʼ latest directing project which he also wrote, stars Johnny Depp. The film follows photojournalist W. Eugene Smith (Depp) who travels to the Japanese coastal town of Minamata to expose corporate negligence and government cover-ups by documenting one of the worldʼs greatest environmental disasters. David Friend of Vanity Fair detailed the film as “A deadly health crisis. Venal leaders profiting as the public suffers. An intrepid journalist trying to expose the cover-up. Andrew Levitasʼs powerful, impassioned Minamata is the movie for this moment.” Minamata had its gala premiere at Berlinale 2020. Levitas will exhibit a series of Metalwork installations based on the film in tandem with the filmʼs release in leading cities around the world in 2021. Prior to Minamata, Levitasʼ wrote and directed Lullaby which stars Amy Adams, Richard Jenkins, Terrence Howard, Jennifer Hudson, and Garrett Hedlund. The film, an exploration of patientsʼ rights, was described by Pete Hammond (Deadline) as a “strong human drama” with “Jenkins a true actorʼs actor, delivering a very Oscar-worthy supporting turn.” The premiere was held at the Museum of Modern Art in New York. A professor at New York University, Levitas maintains studios in New York and London. He is a Global Patron of The Wilderness Foundation and an Ambassador of Tusk Trust. https://andrewlevitas.com/ https://metalworkpictures.com/ The Artist's Mind: Filmmaking and the Creative Process Course Application Connect with your host Kaia Alexander: https://entertainmentbusinessleague.com/ https://twitter.com/thisiskaia Produced by Stuart W. Blake and Jamison run the gamut of discussion between heaven and hell and the pickle that is life in between. This, too, is another episode where Blake came to the recording in a sickly state, but the upside is he brought his sexy voice with him. This means it isn't as grating as it normally is for our listeners. Then we eventually turn our discussion towards 2004' Four Brothers starring Marky Mark (sans Funky Bunch), Outkast (sans Big Boi), Tyrese Gibson (sans Fast and Furious 'family') and Garrett Hedlund (sans...well, nothing that I could find). We talk about Singleton's vision for the film, how it melds commentary on violence with typical vengeance film violence, and how Detroit plays into the film itself. This week I am discussing the Coen Brothers film Inside Llewyn Davis starring Oscar Isaac, Carey Mulligan, John Goodman, Garrett Hedlund, Adam Driver, Justin Timberlake, and more. Being here for the aesthetic isn't necessarily a bad thing - and that's proven by the Disney sci-fi action/adventure film Tron: Legacy. While maybe the screenplay and performances aren't all the way there, there's a killer soundtrack by Daft Punk and some (mostly) well-aged CGI effects. This directorial debut by filmmaker Joseph Kosinski has the tough task of soft-rebooting a a cult franchise that initially was a commercial failure - and through some David Fincher-esque camera work and (somewhat) interesting thematic elements, it succeeds some of the time. This film stars Jeff Bridges, Olivia Wilde, Garrett Hedlund, Michael Sheen, and Bruce Boxleitner. We also give some of our thoughts on the original Tron (1982) and drawcomparisons between the two films. We also go off track of the conversation by talking about raspberry pie technology, how Journey and Mick Jagger supposedly created the worst music video of all time, and our anticipation for Christopher Nolan's upcoming film Oppenheimer.

Chris & Taylor review the crime drama television series "Tulsa King" created by Taylor Sheridan with Terence Winter showrunning for Paramount+. Dwight "The General" Manfredi is a New York Mafia capo who's just finished serving a 25-year prison sentence. Upon release, his boss sends him to Tulsa, Oklahoma, to establish criminal operations there. Not knowing anyone in the area, the General seeks a new crew to help establish his empire. The series stars Sylvester Stallone, Andrea Savage, Martin Starr, Jay Will, Max Casella, Domenick Lombardozzi, Vincent Piazza, A.C. In today's episode of Bingeworthy, our TV and streaming podcast hosts Mike DeAngelo, and Rodrigo Perez set their sights on the new mob dramedy from Paramount+, “Tulsa King.” The Sylvester Stallone-led show centers on Dwight “The General” Manfredi, a New York Mafia capo who just completed a 25-year prison sentence and is exiled by his bosses to start his own territory in Tulsa, Oklahoma. The series also stars Andrea Savage, Martin Starr, Jay Will, Garrett Hedlund, and Domenick Lombardozzi. Joining our co-host, Rodrigo Perez, to discuss the show is writer/showrunner Terence Winter, who made his name on other famous mobster shows like “The Sopranos” and “Boardwalk Empire,” also writing Martin Scorsese's "Vinyl" series and "The Wolf of Wall Street." The series is created by Taylor Sheridan (“Yellowstone”), who also wrote the pilot episode, but handed over the reins to Winter, who attested that he made the show his own with little outside input - even from Sheridan himself. Winter was super generous with his time and told us everything about the show, but two things stand out. One debunking a report earlier this summer that the show would tie in to "Yellowstone" and telling us just how much freedom he had from Sheridan who let him do what he wanted with the show after he had written the pilot. --- Send in a voice message: https://anchor.fm/theplaylist/message Support this podcast: https://anchor.fm/theplaylist/support

I fell in love with Emma Roberts when she filmed American Horror Story: Coven and We're the Millers. When I started recording this episode, I knew it would get a little dark. But, I didn't realize how dark. In this episode, I cover Emma's intense family history (think: addiction, domestic violence, traumatic car accidents/comas and suicide), the nepotism of it all, her relationship with Evan Peters (and the two engagements), the love triangle with her/Hayden Christiansen/Rachel Bilson, and her relationship with Garrett Hedlund. I also go on a few tangents about a few personal anecdotes I have from friends who've been in her presence, as well as my own personal rants. If you like this podcast, please rate, review and subscribe. For photos, please follow X Knows All so I can gain more followers and be famous.
