Hi, Void. This was a rough one. Have you ever seen a movie so bad it erased itself from your mind? You have?! So, you've seen Fantastic Beasts, the Secrets of Dumbledore too! What secrets? No idea. This is a common theme for the entire podcast. Positive moments: Theseus being hot, Mads Mikkelsen (also hot), and . . . that's about it. Jacob again should've been the hero, not the wet blanket that is Newt Scamander. Subplots overlooked: Nazis on the rise in Europe, wizards being dragged into muggle wars, Jacob learning magic, and Dumbledore's DEAD sister! Instead, we got Creedance giving "Mom, no one understands me!" Ultimately, we call J.K. on her BS and label her a false ally and a TERRIBLE storyteller. We have Avada Cadavra readied for the moment anyone mentions a Fantastic Beasts 4. We will bury you.

Don't judge a book by its cover - this episode is about how looks can be deceiving in Harry Potter and Fantastic Beasts. We're joined by Eizabeth Baird Hardy (Mayland Community College) to discuss her chapter in The Ivory Tower, Harry Potter, and Beyond, "Muggle Worthy: Deceptive Exteriors and Outsized Interiors in the Wizarding World." There is an implicit lesson in the wizarding world - one understood by magical children but that needs to be learned by newcomers like Harry - not to trust architecture. Staircases move, paintings hide passageways, unassuming pubs contain entrances to bustling magical streets. People, too, are more than they appear, like the enormous but gentle Hagrid. Some spaces in Potter seem sensitive to emotional or psychological factors, such as the Room of Requirement, which seems to work in a similar way to a boggart in terms of understanding a person. While the former senses what a user needs, the latter senses what they fear. The Room of Requirement does not appear to judge and can be used for noble or nefarious purposes, whether to fight Death Eaters or let them into the castle. What about portable, extendable spaces? Hermione has her beaded bag and Newt Scamander his suitcase full of creatures, both of which serve as metaphors for the complex personalities under the exteriors that might be overlooked. Spaces like these are also seen in Mary Poppins, Discworld, and The Chronicles of Narnia. Fantasy itself feels like a space where we cross a threshold from the mundane into a world of possibility.

Ever felt like a beloved story was pushed too far for the sake of expansion? That's exactly how I felt diving into the Fantastic Beasts trilogy. Join me on the Zone Podcast as I, Jet Black Xtreme (J.B.), share my unfiltered take on this magical universe's unnecessary stretch, drawing comparisons to the Hobbit trilogy. Despite being a die-hard Harry Potter fan, the Fantastic Beasts series missed the mark, with convoluted plots in "Crimes of Grindelwald" and "Secrets of Dumbledore" that drifted away from the enchanting charm of Newt Scamander and into the realm of bewilderment.Curious about what went wrong? Let's unpack J.K. Rowling's storytelling shifts, from retroactive attempts at diversity to the perplexing timelines that left fans scratching their heads. The intricate dance between Dumbledore and Grindelwald, blood pacts, and Nagini's baffling backstory are all on the table, not to mention the struggles of crafting prequels without a crystal-clear vision. We'll also touch on how these narratives compare to other franchises like Star Wars, where planning was key to success—or failure. The magic, or lack thereof, in Fantastic Beasts' battle scenes left much to be desired, unlike the thrilling duels from the Harry Potter days. While the actors gave it their all, the series stumbled over complex narratives and character inconsistencies, especially with Credence, played by Ezra Miller. As an aspiring writer, I find myself questioning Rowling's choices and reflecting on my personal disappointment with the trilogy. But fear not, there's a silver lining—my quest for entertainment is far from over, as I pivot towards more rewarding pursuits like gaming, where joy trumps confusion.Text us for feedback and recommendations for future episodes!Support the showWe thank everyone for listening to our podcast! Welcome to Harry Potter Theory. The world of Harry Potter is full of magical mysteries and hidden connections, but one particular enigma has left fans puzzled for years. In the third installment of the series, "Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban," an unexpected name appears on the infamous Marauder's Map: Newt Scamander.  This surprising revelation has sparked countless theories and speculations among fans, all attempting to unravel the mystery behind Newt's appearance on the map. Today we're going to dive into the most intriguing theories that attempt to explain why the renowned Magizoologist, known for his adventures in the Fantastic Beasts series, would find himself on the map of Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry during Harry's time there. I've done a video on this in the past, but it was significantly less developed with fewer theories. It was also 4 years ago, so I'm excited to take a look at this topic again. Let's dive in. Based on his experience and research, Newt listed each magical being within the text and labelled them with a Ministry of Magic (M.O.M.) classification, ranging from X to XXXXX, with X representing creatures that are—quote—”boring”, and XXXXX representing known wizard killers that are impossible to train or domesticate. Let's just get to it, this movie is bad. Erin and Brennan spend most of the podcast showcasing every possible way it could be better. Mainly, Jacob Kawalski should be the main character and the story should follow him learning of the magical world. Instead, we get extreme introvert Newt Scamander rolling nat ones on animal handling at every turn, a hot Colin Farrell with nothing to do but be bad and slap children, and He Who Must Not Be Named (child who is slapped). We spend way too much time looking up MACUSA (Is it a person? Is it a spell?), we love ourselves a niffler, and we decide whoever wrote this needs an editor. Next time, get us some hawt Dumbledor and Grindelwald action with a side dish of Theseus cause jeez is this dry.

In this episode, we discuss where Dumbledore can go from here. Enjoy!Summary/Topics:·     2:14 Where are we starting from? As of now, Grindelwald is on the run, and most of our main characters are together again. Credence is on the way out with Aberforth by his side. At this point, the dynamic of the fight against Grindelwald shifting. Now they're chasing Grindelwald and have a very good reason to catch him. Dumbledore must form a set of solid relationships to carry the cause of good through the war.·     8:17 Speaking of relationships, which characters will Dumbledore form these key relationships with? Newt is a no brainer, being a major character. Tina is less of a possibility because she hasn't been playing a large role so far. Queenie is in a similar boat to Tina. Lally is more of a wild card. We don't know her character as well as we know others, so including her in the film will be a risk, but a risk that I think it worth taking. ·     13:56 Will the story move fast or slow? If there are four films, there are several routes the film could go. We'll either move very quickly through the story to get to 1945 where the story ends, or we'll just skip every element of the story until said end. I would be happy with either of these. However, it would be very disappointing to just a brief recap lasting only a couple minutes to get us to the later years of the story. A less likely route would be the fourth film to be picked up right where Secrets of Dumbledore ended, as the time in which the war is beginning, and ending is one of the calmest points before the stormiest storm in history and would be a very interesting point to see from the wizarding perspective. ·     22:39 What will Dumbledore focus on in the fourth film and will Newt play a role in quest? Let's begin with the first question. Firstly, Dumbledore is going to look for Grindelwald of course. The next thing he is going to do is gather a form of the Order of the Phoenix. If that's what Dumbledore did in the later books, why change his strategy? He is going to find people who will support him and defend the good.  Having anything you want to hear or say? In this episode, we discuss the best pieces of music in Fantastic Beasts. Enjoy!Mentioned:1. Fantastic Beasts Opening Titles2. The Thestral Chase3. Spread the Word4. The Room We Require5. A Close Friend6. Wands Into the EarthTopics:The Fantastic Beasts opening titles can't be ignored. This is the very first scene in the very first film, so everything needs to be perfect. And it is! In this piece, we hear the Fantastic Beasts theme for the first time, and we're introduced to the characters. It is an excellent all around piece of music.  A Close Friend in Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them is another well done piece. It isn't full of action and spells, rather a conversation between friends. It is quiet and peaceful, choir replacing brass. This piece inspires melancholy, yet hope, and is a fantastic edition to the film. Wands Into the Earth is my all-time favorite piece in the entire Fantastic Beasts franchise! It plays when Grindelwald has adjourned the meeting at Cimetière du Père-Lachaise and casts dragons of fire. Newt works with the rest of the heroes to save the day, plunging their wands into the Earth and creating a barrier that prevents the dragons from escaping. It is a marvelous piece well deserving of the top spot.Much More!Having anything you want to hear or say? Click here for a voice submission or here for text. It's time to talk about a threequel!! Today's film has been MANY years in the making. Unfortunately, it went through some troubled times, even ahead of its filming. We've now seen three different versions of Grindelwald. One, on purpose because of the plot of the first movie, and one because of everything else that was surrounding Johnny Depp. This caused a TON of drama pre filming, and the different in looks was never even addressed in the movie. But, we are of course talking about Fantastic Beasts: The Secrets of Dumbledore. "Professor Albus Dumbledore knows the powerful, dark wizard Gellert Grindelwald is moving to seize control of the wizarding world. Unable to stop him alone, he entrusts magizoologist Newt Scamander to lead an intrepid team of wizards and witches. They soon encounter an array of old and new beasts as they clash with Grindelwald's growing legion of followers." With a supposed two more movies coming still, this movie feels less like a sequel, and more like a continuation of a giant story! BUT, this is more of a romance film between Dumbledore and Grindelwald, and that is what is moving the plot forward. There IS indeed a secret Dumbledore, and this movie explains who that person is, and why he's never been known! PLUS you get some beasts, and to spend some time with some familiar characters! On this week's episode of MuggleCast, we break down new scenes from the recently released Japanese Secrets of Dumbledore trailer, take listener feedback and talk about the 18 new character posters. Plus, we're joined by a very special guest to review Cursed Child in San Francisco! #Millennial co-host Pam joins the show to review the new-and-improved one-part Cursed Child in San Francisco! Check out new episodes of Andrew, Laura, and Pam's #Millennial every Wednesday. Subscribe via Apple, Spotify, Google Podcasts, or wherever you listen! The hosts analyze the new Japanese Secrets of Dumbledore trailer, which includes even more exciting footage! Oh brother! Did Theseus and Newt successfully defeat the Manticore? Professor McGonagall namedrop! Dumbledore comes face-to-face with the portrait of Ariana Newt: “To save our world, each of us has a role to play." What exactly are the roles that Theseus, Eulalie, Jacob, Yusuf and Bunty will play in the third Fantastic Beasts film? Tina is inside Newt's suitcase (kind of)! Dumbledore: “I drew my wand, which was even more foolish.” Will this be how we're going to get Ariana's backstory? Not via flashback, but from Dumbledore himself? Listener feedback covers Tina as Bunty, Dumbledore and Grindelwald's duel, Tina possibly being pregnant and more! We analyze The Secrets of Dumbledore character posters (Dumbledore's First Army, Grindelwald's Followers, and Global Wizards). The Secrets of Dumbledore screenplay will be published July 19. We debate whether or not this big gap between the film and the screenplay is to push fans to go to theaters?
