MLB – Major League Baseball Last Night Detroit Tigers 4, Milwaukee Brewers 3 Toronto Blue Jays 7, Chicago White Sox 0 Chicago Cubs 6, San Diego Padres 0 Tigers 4, Brewers 3 – Carpenter homers, Tigers hold Brewers in check with 4-3 win Kerry Carpenter hit a three-run home run and four Detroit Tigers pitchers held the Milwaukee Brewers in check, as Detroit beat Milwaukee 4-3. Detroit scored all its runs in the second inning. Three batters fouled off a total of nine pitches from left-handed starter Eric Lauer (3-2) before the homer by Carpenter, who had been 0-for-12.  Detroit added the decisive run with two outs. Eric Haase kept the inning alive with a ground ball single that third baseman Owen Miller put a glove on but couldn’t scoop. That allowed Spencer Torkelson to bat. He singled in Javier Báez, who had doubled.  Milwaukee started the 8th with a leadoff double, but then Willy Adames, Rowdy Tellez and William Contreras struck out. Detroit starter Spencer Turnbull gave up two runs in four innings. Blue Jays 7, White Sox 0 – Jansen homers twice, Jays hand White Sox 6th straight loss José Berríos struck out a season-high nine over seven innings, Danny Jansen homered twice and the Toronto Blue Jays beat the White Sox 7-0, extending Chicago’s losing streak to six. Berríos allowed four hits — all singles — and walked one in his second straight seven-inning outing. Nate Pearson and Anthony Bass finished with hitless relief as the Blue Jays won for the 14th time in 20 games. Kevin Kiermaier hit a two-run triple and George Springer had three hits for Toronto. But Reich says the team won’t say who that is until Thursday night, when the draft begins. The Panthers are choosing between Alabama’s Bryce Young, Ohio State’s C.J. Stroud, Kentucky’s Will Levis and Florida’s Anthony Richardson in an effort to upgrade a quarterback position that has been in transition for the last five seasons. NFL – Jets GM: Getting Rodgers is ‘historic’ trade for franchise The Jets’ deal to acquire Aaron Rodgers from the Green Bay Packers is a franchise-altering move that brings the four-time NFL MVP to a team that has the league’s longest postseason drought at 12 years. General manager Joe Douglas called it an “honor” to have a player of Rodgers’ caliber to want to play for the franchise and credited the culture coach Robert Saleh has cultivated during his two-plus seasons with the team. But Douglas said it is a "historic trade for this franchise.” NCAAFB – Notre Dame QB Buchner says he will explore transfer options Notre Dame quarterback Tyler Buchner says he will enter his name in the transfer portal, but did not rule out remaining with the Fighting Irish. Buchner posted on Twitter that he loves Notre Dame, but decided to explore other options after competing with Wake Forest transfer Sam Hartman for the starting job. Notre Dame coach Marcus Freeman did not name a starter after spring practice. Hartman arrived earlier this year with three seasons of starting experience and 110 career touchdown passes. US Soccer – British executive Crocker hired as USSF sporting director British soccer executive Matt Crocker has been hired as sporting director of the U.S. Soccer Federation. He will lead the search for the American men’s national team coach. That position has been uncertain since Gregg Berhalter was pushed aside during an investigation that developed from a feud with the Reyna family. Crocker will start Aug. 2, but begin the search for a coach immediately. The 48-year-old most recently was the director of football operations for Southampton.
