In this episode of Life Equals Choices, Choices Equal Life, Kim Olver welcomes Dr. Evisha Ford, licensed clinical social worker, TEDx speaker, and founding director of the I Can Dream Center, a therapeutic school serving neurodiverse learners in Illinois. Dr. Ford, author of Benches in the Bathroom: Leading a Physically, Emotionally, and Socially Safe School Culture, shares her insights on compassionate leadership and the importance of creating supportive environments for both educators and students.Kim and Dr. Ford explore how compassionate leadership is not about lowering expectations, but about pairing high standards with high levels of support. They discuss the evolving needs of special education, the funding challenges that districts face, and the importance of preparing all teachers to support diverse learners. Dr. Ford also explains why professional development and trauma-informed practices are essential to creating school cultures where both educators and students can thrive. This thought-provoking conversation is a must-listen for educators, leaders, and parents who want to understand how compassionate leadership can transform classrooms, empower teachers, and unlock the potential of every student.
Sal and BT furiously dissected Aaron Boone's managerial decisions in the Yankees' Wild Card game loss, calling it an "unmitigated disaster." The primary critique centered on the premature pull of ace Max Fried, who was clearly still effective, in favor of a struggling Luke Weaver, a move they believe was based on predetermined, data-driven "soft landing" planning rather than a feel for the game. Both hosts agreed that Boone's decision-making—which included a poorly constructed lineup and questionable double-switch—was symptomatic of a larger organizational issue where adherence to analytics trumps on-field situational awareness, ultimately costing the Yankees a critical postseason victory.

I'm capping off the Lollapalooza Series with today's Part 3 from Chicago's Grant Park, including interviews with first-timers Malik Flint of bLAck pARty, along with Evan Ojeda and Charlie Baird of San Diego rock band benches.Malik is an LA-based artist originally from Arkansas (hence the LA and AR of bLAck pARty), who for over a decade now has been creating compelling beats mixing funk, afrobeats and hip hop with a dash of country and R&B. The excitement of this young artist has been on full display and he's cultivated a working relationship with Donald Glover aka Childish Gambino as well as Issa Rae. His latest album, The Last Dance, is out there now!Evan Ojeda and Charlie Baird are childhood pals and now make up one-half of the band benches. First timers at Lolla, these guys bring the SoCal energy to the festival. Their latest effort, an EP entitled “Kill The Lights” has put them on the map as a force in the glam rock world, and I'm excited for what's in store for this fun and super talented band from California!==============================Episode Chapters:00:00 Episode Greeting with Host Josh Rosenberg and Introducing Malik Flint04:55 Interview with Malik Flint aka bLAck pARty20:05 Malik Flint wrap-up with Host Josh Rosenberg21:49 Introducing benches24;40 Interview with Evan Ojeda and Charlie Baird of benches43:30 benches Wrap-Up with Host Josh Rosenberg================================For more information on Roadcase:https://linktr.ee/roadcasepod and https://www.roadcasepod.comOr contact Roadcase by email: info@roadcasepod.comRoadcase theme music: "Eugene (Instrumental)" by Waltzer

The give-away is scheduled for Tuesday, July 29, 2025. A plaque on one of those free-for-the-taking benches says: In Loving Memory Daniel Stewart Crook Sept. 30, 1955 May 5, 1974 We Lost Someone Very Special Randall Adams knew Danny Crook, and Mr. Adams is upset that the City of Sumner appears to have not made any effort to find Mr. Crook's relatives, who still live in the area. She declined a phone interview and offered to try to answer questions via email instead. We sent questions right away, but have not yet heard back. Welcome to Episode 90 of Tablesetters, where the game's biggest stories collide with scorching heat, late-June pressure, and postseason implications already beginning to brew. We begin in Omaha, where the LSU Tigers didn't just win their eighth College World Series — they secured their place as the defining force in modern college baseball. From the dynasty built by Skip Bertman to the edge honed by Jay Johnson, LSU's legacy now spans three decades, multiple eras, and a standard no one else in the sport has matched. Then we shift west, where the Padres and Dodgers turned a simmering rivalry into a full-blown powder keg. Benches cleared, stars got plunked, and managers were tossed in a four-game series that saw eight hit batters and more bad blood than baseball. This wasn't just a tense series — it was personal. And the aftermath could define the rest of the NL West race. In New York, the Mets and Braves meet again — both clubs in search of clarity and consistency as they open a four-game set under the oppressive Queens heat. Atlanta may have swept New York last week, but both teams are still trying to find themselves in a season that keeps asking questions they can't quite answer. From Chris Sale's injury to Frankie Montas' high-stakes return, we break down what's at stake in a pivotal series. We also head to Cincinnati, where the Reds are turning the page — and turning to fire. Chase Burns, one of the most hyped pitching prospects in recent memory, will make his major league debut against the Yankees. With the rotation in tatters and the Reds hovering around .500, this isn't just a call-up — it's a bet on the future. We unpack Burns' meteoric rise, what makes his arsenal electric, and why his debut feels like a potential franchise reset. Elsewhere around the league, big names are coming and going. Max Scherzer returns to the Blue Jays. Shota Imanaga and Nathan Eovaldi are nearing activation. Adley Rutschman hits the IL. And the Padres and Mariners move on from veterans Jason Heyward and Rowdy Tellez. We close with a look at the surging and the slumping — a segment spotlighting players heating up or going ice cold. And in the AL MVP race, Cal Raleigh's historic first half behind the plate has Mariners fans fired up — but Aaron Judge is quietly putting together one of the best seasons of his career. Who has the edge as July approaches? Follow us on Instagram and X @TablesettersPod for extra content, polls, and weekly MLB breakdowns. Like, subscribe, and share to support the show.

Whether it's a sheet of old plywood resting on a couple of sawhorses or a fastidiously crafted hardwood masterpiece, the workbench has long been the centerpiece of studios, workshops, garages, and maker spaces of all kinds.Of the many standout features of our house, I think I was most excited about the multiple basement spaces that I would be able to use as studios for the different things I do. The previous owners were makers — she was a painter and he was a woodworker whose wood shop occupied one of the basement spaces. When we bought our house in 2016, I remember telling Adrianne that I wanted to make one of the spaces my paint studio and that I would make some benches “on day one.” Well, day one didn't happen, nor did week one, month one, or year one. In fact, it's taken me nearly nine years to finally build benches for my studio. So what happened?See the photos I reference in this episode on Substack: The Ballad of the BenchesCONNECT WITH MEWebsite: https://jefferysaddoris.com Instagram: @jefferysaddorisEmail: talkback@jefferysaddoris.comSUBSCRIBESubscribe to Almost Everything with Jeffery Saddoris in your favorite podcast app. You can also subscribe to my newsletter on Substack.
In this episode, Dr. Dixon Chibanda explores from benches to breakthroughs: a new approach to mental health. He explains why storytelling, radical empathy, and solving daily-life problems often outperform medication-first approaches; how three simple steps—opening the mind, uplifting, strengthening—turn elders into community healers; and why hope, not symptom checklists, is the truest measure of success. Along the way, you’ll hear how ancestral wisdom blends with clinical science, how labels can hinder more than help, and how the very grandmothers Dixon trained ended up transforming him. Key Takeaways: Discussion on anxiety and its management through personal values and positive actions. Importance of human connection and storytelling in mental health care. Overview of the Friendship Bench initiative and its origins in Zimbabwe. Role of trained grandmothers in providing mental health support within communities. Need for accessible mental health care and addressing social determinants of health. Integration of Western psychiatric principles with African cultural practices. Significance of empathy and nonverbal communication in building therapeutic relationships. Training process for grandmothers in cognitive behavioral therapy and effective communication. Use of support groups to foster community and shared healing experiences. Emphasis on the power of storytelling and vulnerability in the therapeutic process. Mark (Live from PNC Park) & Al recap the hectic bottom of the 7th that saw the benches & bullpens clear shortly before an Oneil Cruz Grand Slam broke the game open. Jorge Lopez was ejected after throwing inside on Andrew McCutchen and that was presumed to be retaliation for Paul DeJong getting hit by a pitch in the face on Tuesday night.(13:10) The Cruz Grand Slam came against Eduardo Salazar who relieved the ejected Lopez. Salazar has had a bad series and his ERA this season is a staggering 7.56. Salazar has options remaining and is a candidate to be demoted in the near future.(17:00) Mitchell Parker had a fourth straight quality start to begin his 2025. The lefty only allowed one run in six innings of work on Wednesday. Parker's ERA is an extremely impressive 1.85 and has been the team's best pitcher so far.(20:10) Davey Martinez confirmed that DJ Herz has undergone Tommy John surgery and is out for the year. Herz was placed on the IL just a few days prior to Opening Day.(23:00) The hosts reset the ever increasing increasing amount of injuries within the organization.
