In this episode, Dr. Dixon Chibanda explores from benches to breakthroughs: a new approach to mental health. He explains why storytelling, radical empathy, and solving daily-life problems often outperform medication-first approaches; how three simple steps—opening the mind, uplifting, strengthening—turn elders into community healers; and why hope, not symptom checklists, is the truest measure of success. Along the way, you’ll hear how ancestral wisdom blends with clinical science, how labels can hinder more than help, and how the very grandmothers Dixon trained ended up transforming him. Key Takeaways: Discussion on anxiety and its management through personal values and positive actions. Importance of human connection and storytelling in mental health care. Overview of the Friendship Bench initiative and its origins in Zimbabwe. Role of trained grandmothers in providing mental health support within communities. Need for accessible mental health care and addressing social determinants of health. Integration of Western psychiatric principles with African cultural practices. Significance of empathy and nonverbal communication in building therapeutic relationships. Training process for grandmothers in cognitive behavioral therapy and effective communication. Use of support groups to foster community and shared healing experiences. Emphasis on the power of storytelling and vulnerability in the therapeutic process. The Nats lost 6-1 on Wednesday night in Pittsburgh. Mark (Live from PNC Park) & Al recap the hectic bottom of the 7th that saw the benches & bullpens clear shortly before an Oneil Cruz Grand Slam broke the game open. Jorge Lopez was ejected after throwing inside on Andrew McCutchen and that was presumed to be retaliation for Paul DeJong getting hit by a pitch in the face on Tuesday night.(13:10) The Cruz Grand Slam came against Eduardo Salazar who relieved the ejected Lopez. Salazar has had a bad series and his ERA this season is a staggering 7.56. Salazar has options remaining and is a candidate to be demoted in the near future.(17:00) Mitchell Parker had a fourth straight quality start to begin his 2025. The lefty only allowed one run in six innings of work on Wednesday. Parker's ERA is an extremely impressive 1.85 and has been the team's best pitcher so far.(20:10) Davey Martinez confirmed that DJ Herz has undergone Tommy John surgery and is out for the year. Herz was placed on the IL just a few days prior to Opening Day.(23:00) The hosts reset the ever increasing increasing amount of injuries within the organization.
Braves ace Spencer Strider returned a year after Tommy John surgery and looked like his old self. Elsewhere, a day after the Nats' Paul DeJong was hit in the face with a Pirates pitch, benches emptied. And Jackson Holliday one-upped Cal Ripken Jr. To learn more about listener data and our privacy practices visit: https://www.audacyinc.com/privacy-policy Learn more about your ad choices. The secone episode of March’s new release series is jam packed with quality new tunes. There’s the usual lengthy set of brand new Rum Bar releases, including some highights of the upcoming free Swagger Second Shot compilation. Big Stir Records is represented by the latest by Chris Church. There are old faves such as Bob Mould, The Liminanas, Jason Isbell, and Gary Louris of The Jayhawks. Vista Blue celebrates the return of baseball with “Clearing the Benches”. The Tubs and Horsegirl have new sophomore efforts as strong as their debuts. But what excites me the most this week are the first two tunes of the show. “(That Ain’t One I’m) Willin’ to Lose” marks the Ledge debut of Sioux Falls songwriter Meriwether Raindelay & The Original Star Band. I’m hoping it’s the beginning of a series of fabulous releases. And there is also the latest by The Ex-Bombers. The wrestling nerd that I am loves the fact that they have yet another theme for the ring, and this time “He’s a Bad, Bad Man” is the entrance theme for NWA’s Jeremiah Plunkett. Even better is that the band AND Plunkett recorded intros for the show! For more info, including setlists, […]

The Word of the Day is Conviction (0:00-10:45) The Eagles and Phillies have both been in a strong position to secure championships in their respective sports. The Eagles have achieved victory, while the Phillies are on the verge of success. Consequently, the question arises as to which team the fans have greater confidence in to continue winning. (10:45-19:07) Dallas Goedert has been the subject of trade speculation as the Eagles aim to reduce their salary cap. This presents a challenging dilemma, given the current lack of depth at the tight end position. Consequently, the Eagles may consider addressing this need in the upcoming draft. (19:07-30:45) John Tortorella has once again benched a player without providing any explanation to the media or fans. Both Tyrone and Ricky express a desire for him to disclose the reasoning behind his decision, as it would help the players understand how to respond appropriately, as well as assist the dedicated fans of the Flyers. (30:45-43:45) As the program concludes, we have significant news regarding the Eagles' acquisition of running back AJ Dillon, formerly with the Packers. Dillon was sidelined for the entirety of last season due to a neck injury and is expected to assume a backup position in the backfield. In the aftermath of a scathing ruling by the Federal District Court and its issuance of an order blocking President Trump's executive order which attempted to abridge birthright citizenship, one might think the matter closed. But appeals await, no doubt. Last podcast we offered Professor Amar's arguments in support of his interpretation - and the interpretation of most legal experts - of the matter, but obviously there were arguments made in opposition. We address these arguments, starting with those made in Trump's brief in the case, and going beyond them as well. In doing so, we revisit a familiar name: Justice Joseph Story, who Trump's lawyers attempt to enlist in support of their position, with arguments that perhaps don't tell the whole story.

We kick things off with seven fascinating stories from the teshuvos of medieval Spain, where we discover shul seats being treated like real estate: bought, sold, inherited, mortgaged—and sometimes the center of heated disputes. Then, we shift our focus to Ashkenaz, where this phenomenon is noticeably absent, suggesting a very different set of attitudes and conventions about shul seats. Finally, we dive into how the poskim tackled some of these disputes, applying Halachah to their contemporary realities. Benches, Bargains, and Bickering: Shul Seating in the Middle Ages

This week they play the Titans and Boomer said they are a better team than people think they are. The Jets are a favorite on the road and that's because of the QB in Tennessee. They can't start 0-2. The Yankees also lost as they were shut out by Seth Lugo and the Royals. Benches cleared last night in Philadelphia between the Phillies and Rays. In the final segment of the hour, Jerry asked Eddie about smelly teenagers on the Warm Up Show. Hour 2 Boomer has a gift for Gio and it's some sort of Vikings hoodie. Boomer wonders if we should give Daniel Jones some slack for coming back from his injury earlier than we thought he would and he's playing with a bunch of new guys. Gio said he lost the benefit of the doubt because he has been bad for most of his career. Boomer thinks Rodgers and the Jets will bounce back this year and that Rodgers will have a good year. He was disappointed in the offense that they didn't throw the ball down the field enough. Phil thought Tom Brady did well for his first time doing a game on TV. Jerry returns with an update and starts with Aaron Rodgers on with Pat McAfee talking about the Jets not having the ball for enough time in week 1. The Yankees were shut out by the Royals.
