Cincinnati Bengals center Ted Karras joins us today on In the Trenches with Dave Lapham to discuss the Bengals disappointing loss to the Los Angeles Chargers and how the next six games will define the Bengals's 2024 season. It was another amazing game where the Bengals fell just short on Sunday night falling to the Chargers 34-27. Joe Burrow and the offense played amazing once again coming back from 21 points in the second half, the defense also played well in the second half but put the team into too big of a hole in the first half giving up 24 points in the first half. Ted and Dave discuss how these next six games, especially the Steelers game after their bye will define their 2024 season. If they beat the Steelers the playoffs are still alive but will need help from other teams in the AFC. With a loss to the Steelers, the Bengals season will be over. We want to thank Ted for being a fantastic guest and for joining us today on In the Trenches with Dave Lapham brought to you by First Star Logistics. We recently welcomed back for a thirteenth time one of our favorite guests on Dave Lapham In The Trenches, presented by First Star Logistics, Cincinnati Bengals center Ted Karras. This visit covered a lot, as Karras talked about how the Bengals know they didn't get the job done in 2023 and will return in 2024 hungry and angry, ready to regain a top spot in the AFC. Also discussed was the generosity of Bengals quarterback Joe Burrow, who donated $25,000 so Karras would get a "Cincy" tattoo during Karras's huge St. Tatty's Day event. As for the new members of the Bengals this upcoming season, Karras has some firsthand knowledge about a couple of the newest members of the team and deep dives into each of them.
The Athletic's Paul Dehner Jr. and comedian Mark Chalifoux talk about the final pieces of free agency, the first look at the draft with mock 1.0, Ted Karras content ideas, being accused of overdramatizing DJ Reader, a night with Dave Chappelle in New York, local news takes and Blake Maislin's successful infiltration of American youth.

Dave Lapham joined Dave Berk following another big win by the Cincinnati Bengals, who are now 5-3 on the season following their 24-18 victory over the Buffalo Bills in front of 66,965 highly energized fans dressed in orange and black. Lapham talks about the rise of the Bengals' tight ends after many fans screamed for the Bengals' front office to make a move before the trade deadline. Tanner Hudson, who was moved to the active roster instead of making a trade, pulled in four Joe Burrow passes for 45 yards. At the same time, Drew Sample showed he can do more than a blocker at the line of scrimmage with three receptions for 30 yards, including a touchdown, and first-year tight end Irv Smith Jr. enjoyed his best game as a member of the Bengals with three receptions for 26 yards and a score. While Joe Mixon may not have had the kind of day many hoped for running the ball, he did have a touchdown on 14 carries for 37 yards while also adding five receptions for 31 yards/ The offensive line flexed their muscles with double teams between center Ted Karras and guards Alex Cappa and Cordell Volson, while left tackle Orlando Brown Jr. showed off his athletic ability by pulling and opening holes. But while it was easy to talk about Burrow and the offense, the play of Lou Anarumo's defense came up big again, with Cam Taylor-Britt adding another interception and linebacker Germaine Pratt teamed with safety Nick Scott to punch the ball out of the hands of Bills tight end Dalton Kincaid to end a drive early in the fourth quarter. Lap also discusses where he feels the Bengals are at after their tough start but huge recovery with the Houston Texans coming up Sunday afternoon in Paycor Stadium before a short turnaround to play AFC North rival the Baltimore Ravens on Thursday night, then followed the following weekend with another rival the Pittsburgh Steelers.
