Hi friends, happy Tuesday! Today's story left me feeling a little confused. Gilberto Valle was a police officer with a dark fetish: fantasizing about kidnapping, k*lling, r*ping, and eating women. Now, he never *ACTUALLY* did any of this stuff... but was taking his obsession online enough to get him locked up? Also, let me know who you want me to talk about next time. "When, if ever, does a thought cross the line and become a crime?"Raw Deal is the untold story of former New York City police officer Gil Valle, who in 2012 became known throughout the world as "The Cannibal Cop." It is the controversial saga of a man who was imprisoned for "thought crimes", and a look into a world of dark sexuality and violence that most listeners don't know exists, except maybe in their nightmares. After Valle's arrest, media coverage exploded in a frenzy of lurid tabloid headlines and stories about the cop charged with planning to kidnap, torture, rape...and eat...women, including his own wife. But here's the fascinating part: There was no such plan in reality. Valle was simply engaging in his own private fantasies, albeit fantasies that are abhorrent and grotesque, and for that he was thrown into prison. Valle faced life in prison for his charges, and served 21 months for nothing more than having online chats about his fantasies. He was finally exonerated of all charges.Raw Deal raises the question: When does thought become a crime? It will challenge the listener's beliefs about free speech, the right to privacy, and government's role in watching over us.Warning: This audiobook contains graphic fantasy material of a sexual and violent nature. Once a respected member of the force, Gil Valle found himself at the center of a bizarre and disturbing investigation when police uncovered a series of online chats revealing his dark fantasies about kidnapping, torture and cannibalism. In these messages, Gil detailed plans to abduct and cook women, leading to his arrest in 2012. As the case unraveled, it sparked a fierce debate over free speech, with Gil claiming his chats were merely a manifestation of fantasy rather than intent to act. The sensational nature of the case captured national attention, raising questions about the psychology of desire and the boundaries of law enforcement.Make sure you're following along as we upload new episodes every Monday, and as always, thanks for listening! Should merely fantasizing about abducting, murdering, cooking, and eating women be treated with the same severity as committing the crime itself? This paradox is starkly illustrated in the case of New York Police Department officer Gilberto Valle, who frequented the Dark Web to share his violent and twisted sexual fantasies of abducting, murdering, cooking, and eating women. His case strikes at the heart of freedom of conscience, a fundamental human right that allows for the exploration of ideas within the private sanctuary of the mind. However, while this freedom is essential for creativity and moral deliberation, the potential for thoughts to manifest into actions cannot be ignored, either. The line between thought and deed can blur, especially when considering premeditation in criminal law. This is the absolutely fascinating and disturbing case of The Cannibal Cop. Gilberto Valle, A New York City police officer, was arrested and charged with conspiracy to kidnap, torture, and eat women. In the "Cannibal Cop" case, Gilberto Valle was accused of using online forums to discuss disturbing cannibalistic ideation with other users: Moody Blues, Christopher Ashe, Michael Van Hise, and Richard Meltz – also a former policeman. If you like our content, please become a patron to get all our episodes ad-free. The prosecution argued that Valle's online conversations were not just fantasies but actual plans to commit crimes. However, Valle's defense team claimed that his discussions were merely fantasy role-play, and he had no intention of carrying out any real harm. Ultimately, in 2013, Valle was found guilty of conspiracy charges, but the conviction was overturned on appeal in 2014, with the court ruling that his actions did not constitute a true conspiracy.1 In the United States v. Valle case, the legal system grappled with the boundaries between fantasy and intent to commit a crime. The case raised complex questions regarding online communication, freedom of speech, and the interpretation of criminal conspiracy. While the prosecution argued that Valle's online discussions were evidence of a genuine plan to harm others, the defense asserted that they were simply dark fantasies that should be protected under the First Amendment. The legal proceedings shed light on the challenges of distinguishing between genuine criminal intent and disturbing but ultimately harmless expressions, particularly in the context of online interactions.2 1. Remember back in April when Garet asked Katie about the "girl meat" case? Well, for our 50th episode, Katie is teaching us all about thought crimes! That's right - it's the case of the Cannibal Cop Gilberto Valle himself. Valle was charged with conspiracy to commit kidnapping and was caught by his own wife sharing pictures of her and her friends with people found on fetish porn websites along with emails detailing what they wanted to do to the women - including rape, torture, cooking, and eating them. Valle also accessed the NYPD's crime victim's database and obtained contact information for his alleged future victims - but the sticking point is - he never actually tried to follow through on these plans...so is googling stuff a crime? The ladies "flesh" that out this week in an episode that leaves us wondering if we should be better about using incognito tabs. On October 25, 2012, NYPD Office Gilberto Valle was arrested and charged with conspiracy to commit kidnapping after his estranged wife Kathleen had turned her computer over to the FBI following using spyware and uncovering Gil's sexual obsession with cannibalism. He'd been sharing photos of her and other women with other cannibalism fetishists and writing in graphic detail about how badly he wanted to have her kidnapped, raped, tortured, killed, and eaten. Was Gil planning on killing his wife and other women? Or was he does sharing fantasies? Did he get arrested and sent to prison for committing nothing more than thought crimes? We dig into Gil's story today, and take the longest look at cannibalism we've done so far. What is humanity's history with cannibalism? Is it bad for you? Why do some people become sexually aroused by the thought of eating human flesh? All this and more on another morbidly curious edition of Timesuck. RAW DEAL Can a fiction writer on line be arrested for what he creates? When Gil Valle's wife saw what he was writing on a dark fantasy web site, she freaked out reading about him abducting, torturing and eating women..including her! She didn't stop to think that she was alive and hadn't been served up after salad and appetizers. He was subsequently arrested at gunpoint by FBI agents and tossed into solitary confinement. After Valle's arrest, worldwide media coverage exploded in a frenzy of lurid tabloid headlines and stories about the “cannibal cop.” But here's the fascinating part; Valle was simply engaging in his own private fantasies, albeit fantasies that are abhorrent and grotesque, with others in online chatrooms. But he was charged for his “thought crimes,” and faced life in prison. He was convicted by a jury and incarcerated for 21 months until the judge in his case, overturned the jury decision and he was eventually exonerated of all charges. RAW DEAL: The True Story of NYPD's “Cannibal Cop” delves into the dark world of Valle's violent sexual fantasies. But it is also the tale of his ordeal from his arrest and onslaught of media attention, the devastatingly embarrassing trial and relationship with his female attorney, his wrongful conviction and nearly two years of incarceration, his battle to be free, and his life since. RAW DEAL will certainly test the boundaries of any reader. But it also raises the question of when does thought become a crime? Valle's story will challenge the reader's beliefs about free speech, the right to privacy, and government's role in watching over us.. Gil Valle joins Burl Barer, Howard Lapides and Mark Boyer on True Crime Uncensored for a fascinating hour. Listen to this fascinating hour!

Whats your deepest, darkest desire? This week Ashley and Lauren are finishing out the SEX SERIES with an episode on FETISHES & KINKS!! Fetishes and kinks are totally natural and normal and actually can lead to extremely healthy sexual relationships. Yes, even the STRANGEST ones. Lauren is going to be teaching us about some of the lesser known fetishes we've never heard of and the girls try and guess where a fetish like it could have originated in a person's development before she takes us down a darker path and talks about some dangerous and even deadly fetishes. Ashley dives into the psychology of fetishes and discusses why so many people equate deviant behavior with having less-than-vanilla sexual fantasies even though that's statistically and pathologically NOT accurate before she discusses when a fetish crosses a line and becomes a precursor to vicious behavior. We finish up with the case of Gilberto Valle (AKA the CANNIBAL COP) and our thoughts on Armie Hammer's secret sex life. WARNING: This episode is NSFW. It contains foul language, discussions of a sexual nature, and mention of bondage, rape, torture, accidental death, murder and cannibalism.
The NYPD may have made a mistake employing this guy... This week we discuss the very oddly specific fetish of Gilberto, who has since been dubbed the Cannibal Cop. He happens to be an online buddy of the individual we discussed in our previous episode, so you can imagine what kind of disturbing fantasies Gil is into. His wife's intuition made her take drastic measures that completely changed the trajectory of both of their lives. Do you think he's guilty, or did the appellate court make the right call?

Ever wondered if some of the thoughts that creep into your mind could get you into trouble? In this weeks episode, Kenzie and Ame examine the HBO documentary "Thought Crimes: The Case of the Cannibal Cop." This is the story of Gilberto Valle (a former NYPD officer) who spent many nights in secret chatting online with people around the world exchanging fantasies of kidnapping, torturing, murdering, and consuming the flesh of women. This ended abruptly when his wife, who slept in the very next room with their baby girl, stumbled upon the chats and pictures he'd posted on these sites. Terrified for her life, she made the decision to turn him in to the authorities. While he never acted out the stories he wrote about in these conversations, people wonder if he was just one step away from making his online nightlife a gruesome reality.

Hello. This week's show features comedian LIZA DYE, who is a very funny, cool girl who happened to be hit by a motherfucking SUBWAY TRAIN in February. Liza shares what kept her going in intensive care for three months, why she felt the impulse to entertain the passengers on the train before the jaws of life arrived, how much OWN she watched in the hospital, and why people who've been hit by cars are WAY BIGGER DICKS than people who've been hit by trains. Plus: the Cannibal Cop is making JAIL PIZZA, 90s martyrs Anita Hill and Monica Lewinsky and why we should never stop apologizing to them, Jessica Seinfeld went blonde, and why YouTube makeup "celebrities" need to try harder. Hey Ho! Let's Go!
This week's episode of How Was Your Week comes in like a lamb and out like a lady. First, UCB comedian and writer/performer CHAD CARTER joins Julie to talk about gene therapy, dog brains, and whether all massage is erotic. Then, author, writer and generally funny and wonderful guy TED TRAVELSTEAD is here to promote his new book, THE PETRAEUS FILES, , and tell us what it was like pretending to be a hostage-taker for criminology students, how he deals with his OCD, and why "pimp stuff" isn't cute anymore. Plus: What the Cannibal Cop likely does and doesn't know about from pop culture right now, what SMASH has become, the hierarchy of frozen yogurt, what is most chilling about a particular British Humanzee, and a very stupid and pointless anecdote about Fancy Feast. THIS SHOW WILL FILL THE HOLE THAT THE CANCELLATION OF "ENLIGHTENED" HAS LEFT IN YOUR LIFE I FUCKING SWEAR.
This week's episode of HWYW features two bodacious blondes and a lot of talk about the Cannibal Cop's recent conviction. First, CAROL SUE GERSHMAN, authoress of HERE COMES AMAZING YOU and THE JEWISH LADY, THE BLACK MAN AND THE ROAD TRIP is here to talk to Julie about becoming a writer later in life, what a sexy thing to do to your partner might involve, the time she went to South America for plastic surgery and then was like, "no thanks," and the night she quit drinking after she upset her cousin at a Passover Seder. Then, CLAUDIA LONOW, creator of the new series HOW TO LIVE WITH YOUR PARENTS (FOR THE REST OF YOUR LIFE) talks to Julie about her show biz family, her experience as a child actor on KNOTS LANDING, the joke she wrote for Sarah Silverman, and what it was like being in LA during the comedians' strike before she became a successful showrunner, which she is! This is a fascinating interview with a fascinating woman! Also, exactly how old the Pixies makes one feel, a confession about exercise videos and their chosen accompaniment, a story about going to the vet, and AN EXCITING ANNOUNCEMENT ABOUT MY FUCKING HAIR AND HOW GREAT IT LOOKS EVEN THOUGH I DID SOME CRAZY SHIT TO IT. Whatever. What harm does it do in these troubling times? Precisely none. Enjoy this show!
7 AM - Pamela Geller from the American Freedom Defense Institute talks about her group's ads about jihad; Fox News' Courtney Kealy reports on the cannibal cop.
Hi-ho! This week's episode of HWYW starts off with a new Jenny McCarthy rant, then seamlessly segues into two great interviews. First up, it's fellow Scarsdale native PETER GROSZ, who joins Julie to discuss how great it is to hear from your rep that your friend has "buzz" or "heat," why the Cannibal Cop story was poorly timed, what Sonic has on its menu, and how weird it is that our parents are friends. Then, actor CRAIG BIERKO is here to tell us about auditioning for THE MUSIC MAN, loving The Monkees, keeping company with his dog, Boo, and why Matthew Perry is a tough act to follow. Plus: a Carmen Electra metaphor that will make you go "hmmm"! An observation about the new Best Week Ever! A new disturbing memoir recommendation! A sad story about a party in my apartment building! And a disgusting realization about Crocs and their Croc-holes. A delicious Valentine's Candy Heart of a show!
