Featured Authors: Finn McCool and Dale Thompson. Pets are such comforting things. They make us feel happy when we're down, keep us company when we're lonely...but occasionally for some, a nice bite of Fancy Feast isn't enough to calm their more...dangerous urges. In our first story, a mercenary relates the tale of his time with a sadistic dictator...and the beloved alligator that takes care of his rivals. In the second, a high-class party of elites discover, far too late, that something very hungry is prowling around, and it wants to invite the guests to dinner. Come hang out with Derek and JoeEDangerously as they revel in Washington's 34-31 win over Oregon in the Pac-12 Championship Game. They give tons of shout outs to UW players who came through on the big stage. They also discuss Kirk Herbstreit's incessant slobbering all over Bo Nix and Oregon. They answer listener questions and WoolleyDoog makes a memorable cameo on the pod. Note: Derek totally forgot to give shout outs to donators from the past two days. We will be having another podcast very soon and he promises to deliver the shout outs on that episode. Also of note, Derek did keep his promise to BananasNBlondes to play the notorious "Fancy Feast" Pup rant to start the show (since the Huskies beat Oregon). Derek finds the rant juvenile and distasteful and all we can say is that listener discretion is advised. Come join the malarkey and register for free at HardcoreHusky.com

Author Spotlight: Chris and Emily have a great time talking with Fancy Feast about her new (and debut) essay collection, NAKED: ON SEX, WORK, AND OTHER BURLESQUES. We bid adieu to Scarlet Summer with a recap of our Biblio Adventure to Boston where we visited sites related to Nathaniel Hawthorne. The first stop was the land upon which Brook Farm operated in West Roxbury, MA where we hiked to the crumbling foundation of Margaret Fuller's cottage. In Boston's historic district, we had lunch at Chipotle, the current tenant of the Old Corner Bookstore, saw Elizebeth Pain's headstone in King's Chapel Burial Ground, and took a tour of the Boston Athenaeum. We ended the day with a stroll down Pinckney Street, a block where, at different times, Hawthorne, the Alcotts, and the Thoreaus all lived and where Elizabeth Peabody held her kindergarten (the first in America). While on vacation at the Cape, Emily visited Herridge Bookstore, the Provincetown Bookshop, Tim's Used Books, the Provincetown Public Library, and the Eldredge Public Library. She also read WELLNESS by Nathan Hill and NAKED by Fancy Feast. Chris was a guest on Shawn the Book Maniac's BookTube channel where she shows and talks about two bookmarks from her childhood (which were made in Emily's hometown!). She got a lot of reading in and finished ADVERSITY FOR SALE by Jay Jeezy Jenkins, MONSTERS: A FANS DILEMMA by Clair Dederer (which she buddy read with BookTuber Britta of The Second Shelf), THE SEPTEMBER HOUSE by Carissa Orlando, and two kids's books: WHEN A PET DIES by Fred Rogers and STAIRWAY TO DOOM by Robert Quackenbush. Reminder that our 4th Quarter Readalong is THE BOOKBINDER by Pip Williams. Email us (bookcougars@gmail.com) if you'd like to join our Zoom discussion on Sunday, December 3rd at 7 p.m. ET.
It's one thing to visit a sex shop, but it's quite another to stand behind the counter! Working in one of these stores can be a very fulfilling and rewarding experience, but it can also be challenging due to the wide range of customers. A lot of the people walking through the door might be feeling embarrassed. Some might have a complicated relationship with their own sexuality. And others will be rude or immature. So what's it actually like to work in a sex shop? In today's show, we're going to explore the good, bad, and ugly of it all. I am joined once again by Fancy Feast, a Brooklyn-based burlesque performer, writer, and sex educator whose work has been profiled on NPR, Refinery29, and The Huffington Post. Her new book, Naked: On Sex, Work, and Other Burlesques, was the focus of the previous episode. Some of the topics we explore include: How is working in a sex shop like being an amateur sex therapist? What kind of training and sex ed do these shops provide to employees? What are some of the most fun and rewarding aspects of working at a sex shop? How does a lack of sex ed contribute to poor customer behavior in these shops? How can selling sex toys be a liberating experience, both for the seller and customer? How did the arrival of 50 Shades of Grey change what it's like to work in a sex shop? At the beginning of the 20th century, burlesque shows featuring stripteases took the United States by storm. They played on Broadway and were popular across the country. By the end of the century, though, they had all but disappeared. However, burlesque has since made a comeback and is arguably more popular than ever. So let's dive into the world of modern burlesque! I spoke with a burlesque performer about how she got into the business, the role and meaning of nudity in her performances, how audiences react to her shows, and so much more. My guest is Fancy Feast, a Brooklyn-based burlesque performer, writer, and sex educator whose work has been profiled on NPR, Refinery29, and The Huffington Post. Her debut book, Naked: On Sex, Work, and Other Burlesques, is set for release next month. Some of the topics we explore include: At its core, what makes something a burlesque performance? What are some of the different meanings of nudity for burlesque performers, and how is this communicated to the audience? What does the process of preparing for a burlesque show look like? How do local laws limit what performers can do in their acts? How (and why) do people's opinions about burlesque differ from other forms of sex work? Settle in and make sure the doors are closed and bolted as Horsepower and Doc discuss the Cult of the Pocket Bidet, Felony Dan, becoming more like a cat and a car as you get older, Requiem for a Dream, Aronofsky, peanut butter and tuna, how to forget the misery, Fancy Feast, poking out the eyeballs, and, of course, some quicksand. Just a fun tune about my two kitties and their political tendencies... They "occupy" my house but they are very graciously allowing me to live there, as long as they receive sufficient tributes in the form of massive amount of cat treats and "Fancy Feast". The kind with gravy. On demand. Gotta go, it's time for "second-brunch". Meow.
Another Thursday has landed on your calendar, which means the boys from the Real Life Podcast are back with another hour of nonsense and (maybe) some Oilers talk to wrap up your week. On today's show, the guys talked about Tyler's fancy feast, the gap between Game 5 and Game 6, and a whole lot more.To kick off the Thursday episode of Real Life, the guys got started with a discussion about Tyler finally eating cat food after losing a bet earlier in the season. As you'll hear, the experience was fantastic for everyone at Nation HQ as the anticipation for the event has been ramping up mightily over the last few days. Needless to say, you'll want to watch the video on Baggedmilk's Instagram. Getting back to the Oilers, the guys tried to figure out how we're a few days out from Game 6 happening and still have no idea what time the boys will be playing at. We also wondered which team will benefit from having the extended break or whether neither side would want to wait that long to get going again. Looking around the NHL, the boys checked in on some of the other series that are happening and whether there are any of them that everyone enjoys watching the most. Lastly, we wrapped up the podcast with another chat about Chalmers kids as they are once again missing school because of P.D. days. Hosted on Acast. See acast.com/privacy for more information.

And I will send it to you tomorrow morning, take a look at it, and if you do not think that it's ready to air, send the ad agency back down here, and we'll do it on my dime."
