September 19th, 1961. Betty and Barney Hill spotted a strange light on a dark New Hampshire highway and soon found themselves with missing time, unsettling memories, and a story that became America's first major alien-abduction case.
On this last day of our special week of thanks, we recall episode of five of UAP in its original form as the incredible story of Betty and Barney Hill made its first appearance on the show. A New Hampshire couple, claimed to have been abducted in 1961 and taken aboard an alien spacecraft. Betty Hill famously drew a star map from memory during regression that supposedly showed the star system Zeta Reticuli, from which the alien abductors had allegedly said they came from. Betty and Barney Hill came to the world's attention when the report that they were abducted in 1961 by occupants of a UFO was taken seriously in the mainstream press. What is not widely known is that Betty turned to UFO investigation after this, and when Barney died in 1969, she became more deeply involved and travelled from conference to conference giving lectures on the subject. Betty's niece, Kathleen Marden, co-authored the 2007 book with Stanton T. Friedman, Captured!, about her aunt's and uncle's experience. In Chapter 25 titled, “Fall From Grace,” Betty's “commitment to solve the UFO mystery” is described. According to the authors, Betty received cautions and criticisms from members of the UFO community who were concerned that her subjective approach and intense belief were causing her to become the subject of media attention for all the wrong reasons and putting her credibility at risk. Even so, she is credited with participation in cases that have become part of the literature, and this week, we'll look at one of those. Featured on my show today, "The Strange Reality with Dave Emmons," the guest is Nigel Watson from the UK. The show was recorded on 8-27-24. Nigel tells us about his book "UFOs of the First World War." Nigel says from 1890 to the present day, there has been fear from the people in the UK of aircraft attacking them. They would see strange lights and unusual shapes of craft that resembled Durigibles the Germans used. He tells us of abductions in the 1890s and people being visited by alien craft. Nigel says in his book "UFO Investigations Manual: from 1892 to the Present Day" that ET events that he documented, like Barney and Betty Hill, Roswell 1947, and Travis Walton's story of abductions. Nigel actually describes ET events before the popular Roswell 1947 event. Nigel Watson is a researcher and investigator of historical and contemporary reports.
