The Secrets of Financial Alchemy with Cat Howell

In this episode of Higher Density Living we join our special guest, Cat Howell, and Jason Rigby as they explore the secret of financial success. Cat Howell stands as a the pioneer in the idea of creative financial coaching. Infusing a higher sense of awakening  in discovering your wealth, both the material and non-material, Her philosophy transcends traditional financial paradigms, delving into the mystical art of transforming aspirations into tangible wealth. With a fervent belief in the alchemy of wealth, Howell champions the fusion of practical techniques with visionary thinking, revolutionizing the way individuals perceive and attain success in life.   Howell is the best-selling author of Magic Source Codes (The Alchemy of Being and the Alchemy of Freedom). She is currently working on various projects related to new ways on understanding personal financial growth and spiritual coaching. She also host her own podcast the Flow Protocols which talks about the Alchemy of Wealth and Wellbeing. Cat has solid engagement with her community, bringing waves of new ideas to the greater spiritual community.    Howell shares her experience during a period when many startups were seeking funding, there was a significant event involving Silicon Valley Bank that led to a major bank collapsing. This coupled with the revolution of techpreneurship and AI related business industries sprung a ripple effect on venture capitalists and caused a shortage of available funding. Consequently, numerous tech companies faced financial difficulties and were forced to shut down within a short span, typically due to their high expenditure each month, known as a "burn rate."   This financial strain resulted in widespread layoffs across prominent tech companies like Facebook (now Meta) and Google. Meanwhile, during this challenging time, you found yourself in bed, unable to sleep due to immense pain.   In her turbulent experience in venture capitalism and start-up business, Cat shares her journey through a business career has been marked by numerous failures. However, the most significant shift occurred when she began to change and embrace the idea of mindset – understanding how her own thoughts and perspectives influence the outcomes of an achievement. This realization led to rapid growth in her business. There was a point when the focus was on helping agency owners through Facebook ads, and she was fully immersed in it. It is passion, something she lived and breathed every day.   There is a brief decline in her business, as she lost energy. The thrill she once felt for work diminished, and she found myself losing interest in staying updated with Facebook's algorithm changes. Despite this, Cat Howell teaches about her experience on regaining back energy and passion. She felt hesitant to make changes or walk away because the business was thriving. She felt trapped in a situation where success had become a constraint. Eventually, this internal conflict led to a deep depression that forced her to step away from the company, as it reached a critical point affecting mental health and well-being.   In essence, Cat Howell's business journey was marked by significant personal growth through understanding the power of mindset. However, the success she achieved also became a source of confinement, leading to a struggle between personal fulfillment and the pressures of maintaining a thriving business. So where does fullfilment and “success” come through the picture?   The answer is within the Alchemy of Wealth. This is not determined by the material attainment of resources such as money and properties, or career decorations or progression, but it is a mindset and a lifestyle.   When things start aligning in your favor, it becomes easier to take bigger steps forward. You take things on your own matter, convert them into your advantage. You'll find support in those moves. However, if you seek freedom, more flow, time, and money for yourself while feeling overwhelmed, burnt out, frustrated, or stagnant daily, you cannot expect progress. Don't act surprised if you're stuck in this cycle and not achieving what you desire. You're the primary influencer, you have the Free Will to determine your life.   When you consistently align your intentions with clarity and review them daily, you set a powerful process in motion within the Universe. Even if you lack the courage or clarity to adjust your actions accordingly, support will manifest for you. Often, this support emerges amidst chaotic situations, which serve as catalysts for transformation and change.   Having a vision. of care and love towards wealth is like the internalizing the feminine character of your intention your imagination. You get to visualize as things become about what you intend for yourself and you activate that. Because waiting is not an option, the blind and drifting arrogant bliss.   If you wait for money, it's like waiting on your reflection – it won't make much sense. Foster a healthy relationship with money as you would in any human relationship, and it will guide the social dynamics and power dimensions that goes along with it. Show gratitude, appreciation, and embrace a playful approach rather than solely focusing on generating monetary wealth or acquiring more clients each day.   Ask yourself: "How can my business and I experience play, flow, or gratitude today?" Apply this mindset not just to your business but also to your relationship with money. Cultivating a positive relationship and approach is key to progress. Small acts, like expressing gratitude while spending money, can pave the way for more significant changes and actions. The relationship between an individual and their finances is compared to nurturing a human relationship, urging people to approach it with appreciation and a sense of play rather than solely focusing on making money.   At the core of Cat Howell's teachings lies a pivotal shift in mindset. Rather than viewing wealth as an elusive concept, Howell advocates for a transformational change in perspective. The alchemy of wealth, as she describes it, begins with altering one's beliefs about money and abundance. It's about embracing the notion that wealth isn't merely about material possessions but also about creating a life of purpose, impact, and fulfillment.   She advocates for actionable strategies, including leveraging digital platforms and diverse income sources. Howell's approach is firmly grounded in actionable strategies. Through her guidance, individuals are encouraged to explore diverse avenues of income generation.   External conditions, such as relationships, can create an illusion. You'll need to decide whether to shift your focus toward things that genuinely excite you, even if it means stepping into the unknown without a clear idea of how it will work out, break free and manifest positive energy for your wealth, be it mentally or spiritually. To change the negative self-talk in your mind, surround yourself with people who have normalized receiving and ease. Our social circles greatly influence us, so being around those who effortlessly receive can reshape your mindset. By acknowledging and focusing on these small instances of ease in your reality, you can gradually shift your mindset.    Cat Howell's vision extends far beyond the individual pursuit of wealth. It resonates with the idea of a collective shift—a movement where the alchemy of wealth isn't confined to a select few but becomes an accessible reality for anyone willing to embrace it. Her mission is to empower and inspire individuals worldwide to tap into their potential, unlocking the alchemical secrets that lead to financial freedom and a more fulfilling life.   In conclusion, the alchemy of wealth, as elucidated by Cat Howell, isn't merely about accumulating riches. It's a transformative journey—an amalgamation of mindset, strategy, and purpose that transcends conventional financial wisdom. By embracing this alchemy in the context of higher density living, individuals have the opportunity not only to amass wealth but to lead richer, more purpose-driven lives.   Are you ready to embark on this transformative journey and discover the alchemy of wealth with Cat Howell?   As always, Higher Density Living reserves no dogma because only the truth prevails in the universe. A lot of agency owners dream of the day they’ll be able to walk away from the business they’ve started and nurtured over so many years. But how do you get there? What are the mistakes you should avoid on the way? How do you lead a successful agency while avoiding burnout? And if you ever find yourself overwhelmed or depressed because of your work, how do you get out of it? In this episode of the Social PR Secrets Podcast, host Lisa Buyer talks to agency owner and all-around icon Cat Howell. Cat is the founder and CEO of Eight Loop Social as well as the biggest Facebook advertising group in the world, FB Ads Academy. After founding Eight Loop Social in 2015 and growing it to new heights, Cat recently welcomed two new partners. The new additions changed her life. Here is how. When it All Gets Too Much Two years ago, Cat realized her business, which managers over $250,000 in Facebook ad spend per month, was reliant on her. If she made a mistake, it affected the entire business disproportionately. She felt trapped and almost went bankrupt. Last year, her mental health started deteriorating so badly she couldn’t even function. That’s when she realized she needed a change. Cat is all about processes. When implementing changes within her agency, she started with getting rid of anything they did that couldn’t be replicated for most clients. Indeed, if you cannot replicate the service and outcomes a client is getting, you are outside the scope of your core operations. That is putting yourself and your team on a constant learning curve that will either lead to costly business consequences or burnouts for yourself and your employees. It’s All About Streamlining the Process So where do you go from that realization? You refocus, says Cat. Think about the core thing people are paying you to do, and focus on that. Once that becomes systematic, you will have access to scalability. In turn, dealing with a large book of clients will be effective and won’t cost you your mental health. When it comes to agency management, Cat advises starting by being clear on what you want your business to do for you and what that looks like. If you don’t make that vision clear from the start, you will get stuck. Additionally, surround yourself with people who will help you get where you want. Agency owners can’t wear all the hats, that’s just not humanly possible. Not only will a good staff and mentors alleviate some of your workloads, but it will also shift your entire perception of the industry and will introduce you to a plethora of new possibilities. Taking Care of Yourself as an Agency Owner Cat says depression and burnout were a long time coming for her. But when she experienced a mental breakdown and couldn’t even leave the bed, she knew she had to do something about it.

Meet Cat Howell, truly one of a kind, truly original and massively authentic. I cannot say I have met many people like her in my 50+ years on the plant. Maybe because she understands something about life many don't? Is it because of the journey or is it the mentors she raves about? Whatever the case, from the first moment I met Cat I knew there was someone extraordinary in front of me, which is why I really wanted to capture her on film and in tone, so please welcome CAT Howell to the Hit Show! Cat made her first million obscurely, no fanfare, no press and no big deal for anyone but her, now just about 5 years later, that first million led to many more. Successful in her own way, being her, Cat shows what a woman can accomplish without playing by the rules, she digs deep and takes the listeners with her on her journey. Are you self-sabotaging your agency's sales? Do you lack trust or confidence in your team to deliver results? Worried they aren't going to live up to expectations and make you look bad? You probably have felt this way at one time or another. You might even be causing the problem and not realize it! Your agency is a reflection of you and it's natural to have these concerns. Once you're super honest and self-aware you can get out of your own way to grow your agency. In today's episode, we'll cover: How niching down builds trust. Avoiding 2 major pitfalls of growing an agency team. 2 questions the guest has for Jason when she puts Swenk on the Spot Today I chatted with Cat Howell, founder, and CEO of Eight Loop Social, a successful Facebook ads agency.  Cat faced some serious lows in the beginning and shares with us what she learned and how she overcame them to become a six-figure per month agency. Growing an agency can be hard, but you can make it even harder if you are self-sabotaging your agency sales... and you might not even realize you are doing it. As agency owners, we are all guilty of wanting or feeling that we need to "do it all". Cat tells us how to overcome that "do it all" mentality so you can learn to trust your team and grow your agency. How Niching Down Builds Trust When you are an agency that is trying to serve all types of clients, you aren't serving any type of client well. (The jack-of-all-trades is the master of none.) Trying to do everything means your agency team is constantly on a learning curve to a specific industry or service. That constant learning curve can cost your agency: Money Resources Accounts Greatness When you hone in on your agency's strengths it allows your team the ability to FOCUS. Pinpointing a niche - whether vertical, horizontal or both - provides the opportunity to save time, money, resources as well as gain clients and become great at one thing. Once you pinpoint a niche, create SOP's around that particular funnel and get systemized so your agency team can be more efficient and effective. When you see your team running like a well-oiled machine, you'll gain trust and they'll feel empowered to do work that will grow the agency. Avoiding 2 Major Pitfalls Of Growing an Agency Team #1. DON'T borrow money to build your team. It can be a vicious cycle... You're trying to win new business, but you don't have the money to hire staff. But then clients don't want to commit without you having enough staff in place. You might want to (or already have) taken out a large loan to build your team. Here's how you can avoid this pitfall: Have lead generation processes in place and be able to onboard new clients effectively. Understand how to win clients and bring clients in under the right pricing. Have a system for onboarding and training your team. Minimize the amount of training that requires your time, personally. While you're personally training, you're neglecting other important agency growth tasks. This can lead to resentment and stunt agency's growth. Don't expect new team members to just figure it out - that's a recipe for disaster. #2. DON'T neglect your team during agency growth. In times of fast growth, we tend to shift focus to onboarding clients quickly and lose sight of internal processes and systems such as properly training the agency team. This is a sure way to set them (and you) up for failure. Talk about self-sabotaging! Instead, here's what you can do: Have a non-negotiable structure which includes proper training and processes in place so you can trust your team. If you find yourself in a situation of too much, too fast and things are slipping through the cracks take a step back. Look at what's standing in the team's way of success. Then STOP. Stop the funnel. No more calls. Focus on your team and train them. Reset everyone on the right path in order to rebuild trust and confidence in your team. Your team is your greatest asset. You need to trust your team and put them first. New agency business and growth can only follow when there is confidence in your team to deliver results on the services you're promising. When you lose confidence in your agency team it is natural to start pulling back and that is self-sabotaging agency sales while negatively impacting growth. Swenk On The Spot Today I tried something new on the podcast and let my guest, Cat, ask me two questions. It could be anything she wants, within appropriate reason (ha!) and I answered them on the spot. 1- Do you run background checks on contractors and full-time staff? I run background checks, dig into social accounts, and check references on employees but not on contractors. I'm totally transparent about this policy with job candidates and I've found it filters out the shady ones. 2- What do you do if a client asks you for a grace period on your invoice? No. Don't do it. You have to start by setting up expectations from the beginning of the client relationship. Clients start to get nervous if they don't see results as big or fast as they want to, and they want to put on the brakes. If this happens, remind them they hired you to achieve specific results and you will do it when allowed the proper time. In the meantime, they're still responsible for paying you on time. On today’s show, I take a deep dive into Facebook advertising with my guest, Cat Howell. She's an incredible Facebook marketer who shares valuable information we can apply to our current strategies.  Spending too little is one of the biggest mistakes that she sees in her Facebook advertising agency because Facebook ads are not effective unless they are done right. In our conversation today, Cat will use her experience from working with clients like Coca Cola, Amitil, and Contiki to give you Facebook advertising best practices, tips, tricks, and secrets. Find Out More About Cat Here: Cat Howell @socialuplab on Facebook Cat Howell on YouTube @SocialUplab on Twitter Facebook Ad Hacks In This Episode: [00:59] - Cat discusses some of the biggest Facebook advertising mistakes that she sees prospects or clients making before they start working with her. She then discusses her suggested minimum run time and spend for an ad campaign. [03:38] - Cat offers another way to approach ad campaigns, pointing out that it’s important to be willing to spend more on a new campaign. [05:03] - Stephan brings up a real example involving his book The Art of SEO. Cat then talks about the time period it takes to get ad spend down to a more reasonable price. [07:56] - For listeners who aren’t familiar with Facebook’s Audience Network, Cat explains what it is. She also discusses the problem with it, which involves accidental clicks. [10:51] - Typically, Cat would recommend that if you’re launching a brand new campaign, you should leave the campaign on automatic placement (which is Facebook’s default). [12:13] - Stephan returns to the hypothetical example of selling his book, asking Cat about what an effective funnel might look like. [14:57] - Cat illustrates her point through the example of selling clothing through an ecommerce store and upselling to your existing customers. [16:00] - What would be an example of a successful client of Cat’s on Facebook? She discusses a recent case, talking about its ROI. She then offers advice about going for a specific audience. [21:06] - Cat gives an example of niching down to a very narrow target, as she has just recommended. [23:10] - The caveat, Cat points out, is that you actually need to have expertise in the subject you’re going to teach people about. [23:58] - Is there any benefit to being Facebook verified? And does Cat help her clients get Facebook verified? [25:46] - Cat discusses some of the pricing models used in working with online marketing agencies. [29:10] - At Cat’s agency, she uses a combination of all the models she has just discussed, she reveals, and explains that it depends on each client’s needs. [29:56] - Stephan points out that some advertisement agencies are secretive about exactly what they’re doing, meaning you’d have to start all over if you leave that agency. Cat then shares her perspective on this practice, discussing the pros and cons. [35:02] - Cat talks about a client who had been spending $20k a week on email marketing without knowing anything about exactly what was happening. [36:21] - We learn about Cat’s views on the use of videos in advertising on Facebook. [39:11] - Cat discusses the difference between using Facebook Live videos as ads as opposed to pre-recorded videos. [40:43] - Stephan uses this podcast as a hypothetical to ask Cat how to incorporate Facebook Live into a marketing strategy for a podcaster or anyone in a similar situation. [42:56] - Cat responds to Stephan’s question, offering her recommendations for strategies on how to advertise with video in his case. [45:14] - How can listeners find Cat to work with her?
