This has always been a film I have enjoyed with a great cast and a great story to keep you intrigued. I would also recommend the tv show if you get a chance to watch it, too bad it only lasted one season. This is such a great thriller from the 90s, so rent it or buy a copy online. Policewoman Amelia Donaghy (Angelina Jolie) is in hot pursuit of a serial murderer whose calling card is a small shard of bone extracted from each of his victims. Unable to decipher the cryptic clues the killer leaves behind at the scene of the crime, Amelia calls upon quadriplegic forensic criminology expert Lincoln Rhyme (Denzel Washington) to help. With Amelia acting as Rhyme's able-bodied go-between, the pair piece together disparate clues, hoping they will learn who the next victim is.The Bone Collector:

Inspired by the rallying cry for a war history has often forgotten, Remember the Maine is a drink that wears its patriotism on its sleeve, and its vermouth and cherry component with pride. At first glance, it reads like a Manhattan with flair: rye, sweet vermouth, cherry Heering, and a rinse of absinthe. But follow its trail and you'll find a drink that likely evolved from another historical oddity. Helping us navigate its complicated history and composition is Joel Lee Kulp, owner and general manager of Brooklyn's The Richardson. The Mouse Castle Lounge Podcast: Disney News and Interviews, Cocktails and Conversations

After 3 ½ years, two full seasons and 40 episodes, Disney XD's Gravity Falls is about to air its final show—and we're a little bummed by this. Gravity Falls is our favorite thing on Disney television right now, ranking right up there with Phineas and Ferb, another great Disney animated series that came to an end. The summer adventures of Dipper and Mabel Pines at their great uncle Stan's Mystery Shack in the Oregon backwoods has been consistently funny, irreverent, exciting and even a little sweet. There have been mysteries solved, monsters defeated and life lessons learned in a show that is as entertaining for kids as it is for adults. The show's final episode, “Weirdmageddon 3: Take Back the Falls,” will air on Disney XD Monday, February 15 at 7:00 p.m. In it, we'll find out the fate of the Gravity Falls townsfolk at the hands of Bill Cipher, the one-eyed, triangle-shaped being from another dimension hell-bent on ruling—and possibly destroying—the entire known universe. It's going to be fun, really. This week, Tim attended a press event in Burbank with some of the cast and creative people of Gravity Falls. On hand was the show's creator and voice of Grunkle Stan, as well as the lovable handyman Soos, Alex Hirsch. Joining him were the actors who voice Dipper and Mabel Pines, Jason Ritter and Kristen Schaal. And finally, we heard from the composer of Gravity Falls' catchy, mysterious and whimsical music, Brad Breeck. Drew Taylor with the Disney Insider moderated the panel discussion, which was followed by questions from the press. Alex, Jason, Kristen and Brad shared their favorite moments from the show, how the Gravity Falls characters developed and grew, and why it made sense to end the series when they did. Adventure Thru Liquid Space In a move inspired by Garry Apgar, our guest in the Lounge last week, Tim challenged our resident mixologist Carolyn to devise a cocktail worthy of Mickey Mouse's arch-nemesis Black Pete. We're happy to report she came through with flying colors (or maybe she was just Plane Crazy). Black Pete 1 1/2 oz. Scotch1/2 oz. Cherry Heering1/2 oz. Ramazzotti Amaro1 1/2 oz. Coca Cola In a shaker, combine the Scotch, Cherry Heering, and Ramazzotti, fill with ice, and shake to chill. Strain into an ice-filled rocks glass. Top with Coke. Garnish. We are going to go out on a limb and say that the Communist Cocktail is probably named after Communists. Nothing states it definitively, but…Communist. This drink calls for Cherry Bounce in the original recipe, an old cordial made from sour cherries, the pits, sugar and spices. Cherry Bounce: the 19th century’s answer to Kool-Aid! It is a relative of Cherry Brandy, and Cherry Heering, used in most recipes now. The red color of Cherry Bounce or Cherry Heering is probably the reason it ended up with the name that it did, since when mixed it becomes a brownish-orange. Would this be a…Red Herring? There isn’t a whole lot to go on with this drink other than it seems like another one-off from a book/pamphlet of cocktails called Cocktail Parade (1933). The pictures from this publication are enough to draw conclusions about the creation of the drink and who was drinking it though. The drawing paired with the drink takes us into a discussion of images of communists throughout the late 19th and early 20th centuries. Ridiculous stereotypes of dark, mustachioed, immigrants scheming to overthrow capitalism with their cartoon bombs. We explore communism throughout time and space from communal experiments to labor movements to Bolsheviks to attempts to end prohibition by associating it with the communist behavior. This one is chock-full of revolution, class, immigration, and even a little bit of Genghis Khan for good measure. The ingredients are: 1 oz gin 1 oz fresh squeezed orange juice 1/2 oz cherry brandy (Cherry Heering) 3/4 oz fresh lemon juice Despite the reliance on citrus I really liked this drink. Tasting the Cherry Heering alone I knew I would. The sour from the citrus is really offset by the thick, cherry sweet coming through. It was good; it wasn’t amazing but I did enjoy it and would be happy to have it again.

Monster in a Glass

Play Episode Listen Later Nov 5, 2013 117:19

The Singapore Sling has a bit of a tricky history to piece out. Most recipes nowadays have pineapple juice, and attribute the Singapore Sling recipe to the Raffles Hotel in 1915. While some evidence points in that general direction, it is hard to confirm. What muddies the waters is changing ingredients from reference to reference, bouncing between simple gin sling-based recipes to something that resembles a tropical drink. For additional confusion, sometimes it is a Singapore Sling, sometimes a Singapore Gin Sling, sometimes a Straits Sling. And just for fun the ingredients for a Singapore Sling in one book may be the same as the ingredients as a Straits Sling in another, with a Singapore Sling right alongside, of course with different ingredients. In this episode we try to sort out the Singapore Sling story and how it got to be such a recognizable cocktail. We take a look at the origins of gin slings, Western influences that might have brought it to Southeast Asia, and British colonial rule a long way from the U.K. The recipe is: 2 ounces gin ¾ ounces Cherry Heering 2 teaspoons Benedictine 2 teaspoons Cointreau 2 ounces pineapple juice ¾ ounce fresh lime juice 2 dashes grenadine 1 dash Angostura Bitters Soda water
