MONEY & WEALTH! Chris kicks Episode 92 off with a (clearly very legitimate) pyramid scheme sales pitch to Amanda and Matt, who prove, yet again, that there's a sucker born every minute. But the talk quickly shifts to hard-hitting money truths—childhood lessons we ignored, what “F-you money” really means, Rockefeller's quip about craving “just a little bit more,” and how ego sabotages our savings. Along the way, Amanda reveals her Cadbury Egg obsession knows no budget, Matt dreams of cruising in a Saab 900, and Chris suggests tipping valet drivers with $2 bills like a benevolent Bond villain. DRINKS IN THIS EPISODE:CLASSIC DAQUIRI >> 2 oz light rum, 1 oz fresh lime juice, ¾ oz simple syrup. In a cocktail shaker with ice, shake vigorously until well-chilled, strain into a coupe, and enjoy this bright, citrusy nod to Hemingway, JFK, and warm spring nights.THE WHITE LADY>> 2 oz gin, ¾ oz triple sec (or Cointreau), ¾ oz lemon juice, 1 egg white. Dry shake, then shake with ice, strain into a coupe. The once-maligned White Lady gets her long-overdue redemption.MINT JULEP >> 2 oz Four Roses bourbon, ½ oz demerara simple syrup, Fresh mint (muddled + garnish). Muddle the mint with the demerara syrup in the bottom of a Julep glass and then discard the mint. Pour in the bourbon, stir, and then pack the glass with crushed ice. Garnish with a mint sprig and serve with a metal straw. Enjoy the official cocktail of the Kentucky Derby while making a reckless bet on the longshot to win it all.If you've been enjoying the 3Q3D podcast, please subscribe and consider giving us a rating, a review, or sharing an episode with a friend.  Follow our social sites here: Instagram:  https://www.instagram.com/3drinkspodcast/?hl=en  Facebook:  https://www.facebook.com/3Drinkspodcast

ARTIFICIAL INTELLIGENCE! These days, AI is all the rage, but it's also fueling more late-night doomscrolling than many care to admit. Whether we like it or not, though, Artificial Intelligence is no longer the stuff of science fiction — it's here, it's evolving faster than we are, and in some unsettling ways, it feels like we've begun teaching rocks to think (what could go wrong?). On the bright side, the rocks in 3Q3D's cocktail glasses are still cold, and the conversation – at least for now – still involves real people. While Chris Mikolay appears to welcome our new AI overlords, noted technophobe and hunter-gatherer enthusiast Amanda Adams assumes Episode 91's hosting duties, leading the trio down a dark and winding path that questions how AI is reshaping creativity, education, relationships, and perhaps, what it even means to be human. DRINKS IN THIS EPISODE:BABY GUINNESS SHOT >> 1 oz Kahlúa; 1/2 oz Baileys Irish Cream (floated carefully on top). Pour the Kahlúa into a shot glass. Using the back of a spoon, carefully float the Baileys on top to create a layered – and nearly perfect – deep fake of a miniature Guinness.PERFECT MANHATTAN COCKTAIL >> 2 oz rye whiskey; 1/2 oz sweet vermouth; 1/2 oz dry vermouth; 2 dashes Angostura bitters. Add all ingredients into a mixing glass with ice. Stir until well chilled. Strain into a chilled coupe or martini glass and garnish with a Luxardo cherry or a lemon twist. A classic cocktail that pairs perfectly with a Cadbury Egg (or 3).PINK GIN COCKTAIL >> 2 oz Dingle Gin (or any London dry gin); 2–3 dashes Angostura bitters. Add gin and bitters to a mixing glass filled with ice. Stir gently and strain into a chilled cocktail glass. Garnish with a lemon twist if desired.Simple, sophisticated, and tinged with just enough mystery — fitting for a conversation about our AI future.  If you've been enjoying the 3Q3D podcast, please subscribe and consider giving us a rating, a review, or sharing an episode with a friend.  Follow our social sites here: Instagram:  https://www.instagram.com/3drinkspodcast/?hl=en  Facebook:  https://www.facebook.com/3Drinkspodcast

BIG, DIFFICULT, FASCINATING QUESTIONS (THAT WE'LL HAVE TO FACE IN THE VERY NEAR FUTURE). It seems only fitting that Matt Jordan – with his genetically perfect beard – should assume command of the USS 3Q3D for a conversation that tackles the toughest bioethical questions of our not-at-all distant future. Joined as usual by Amanda Adams and Chris Mikolay, the group wastes no time discussing whether we ought to genetically enhance our children, the second and third order consequences of dramatically increasing lifespans, and whether it's a good idea to implant a computer chip in our heads to make us a whole lot smarter. The questions are as good as the drinks (and in this episode, the drinks are *chef's kiss*), and resulting conversation is so strong that it's hard to believe it wasn't held by superhumans from the future.      Drinks in this Episode: Last Word coctkail >> 3/4 ounce gin; 3/4 ounce green Chartreuse; 3/4 ounce maraschino liqueur; 3/4 ounce lime juice, freshly squeezed; Garnish: brandied cherry (optional). Add the gin, green Chartreuse, maraschino liqueur and lime juice into a shaker with ice and shake until well-chilled. Strain into a chilled coupe glass and enjoy on your spaceship to Mars.  Sakura Sunrise cocktail >> 1 ½ ounce Roku gin; ½ ounce simple syrup; ¾ ounce grapefruit juice; ½ ounce lemon juice, freshly squeezed; splash of St. Germain; 3 dashes Lavender bitters. Mix all ingredients in a cocktail shaker with ice and strain into a coupe. Enjoy it anywhere, but ideally at a fancy bar on the North Shore of Hawaii so you can humblebrag about it later during a podcast recording.  Lemon Drop cocktail >> 2 ounces vodka; 1/2 ounce triple sec; 1 ounce lemon juice, freshly squeezed; 1 ounce simple syrup. Garnish: sugar rim. Coat the rim of a cocktail glass with sugar and set aside (do this a few minutes ahead so the sugar can dry and adhere well to the glass). Add the vodka, triple sec, lemon juice and simple syrup to a shaker with ice and shake until well-chilled. Strain into the prepared glass, take a sip, and immediately declare how much you enjoyed Lemonheads as a kid.

STYLE! (Part 2). In the final installment of a special two-part series on Style, serious style is apparently found at…Costco? While Chris begs to differ, Matt makes a case for a closet full of Kirkland Signature and – provided Roman chic someday makes a comeback – at least one quality toga. Clearly, the 3Q3D crew is not afraid to break all the rules as they arrive for this second serving of style with a fresh batch of questions (including a frenetic lightning round finale) and 3 new drinks that are as varied (and, in one instance, as regrettable) as the style trends discussed. You may regret your style decisions of years past, but you won't regret listening to this classic episode of 3Q3D!Drinks in this Episode: Bâtonnet cocktail  >> 1 part cognac, 4 parts white wine, 5 parts tonic; 2 cinnamon sticks. Mix cognac, white wine and tonic in a tumbler with ice and pour into a cocktail glass. Garnish with cinnamon sticks and, like a Hefty bag of old clothes you'll be donating to Goodwill, forget this drink ever existed.  Classic Martini (Stirred, not shaken) >> 2 1/2 oz vodka; 1/2 oz dry vermouth (spring for the good vermouth, you'll thank us); 1 dash orange bitters. Garnish: lemon twist. Add the vodka, dry vermouth and orange bitters into a mixing glass with ice and stir until very well-chilled, about 20 to 30 seconds. Strain into a chilled cocktail glass, garnish with a lemon twist and go ahead, buy that fancy Costco dress shirt you've been eyeing. YOU DESERVE IT.   Jack Rose Cocktail >> 1 1/2 oz applejack or apple brandy; 3/4 oz lemon juice, freshly squeezed; 1/2 oz grenadine; Garnish: lemon twist. Add the applejack, lemon juice and grenadine into a shaker with ice, and shake until well-chilled. Fine-strain into a coupe glass, garnish with a lemon twist and no, that pair of Air Jordan's doesn't make you look cool. Amanda, Matt and Chris have upped their sartorial game, arriving to the studio dressed to the nines and ready to pour cocktails that are as elegant as their names (Tuxedo No. 2, where have you been all our lives?!). This year, October's beauty is bittersweet, with red and blue political signs competing with Fall's glorious oranges and golden yellows - and raising the nation's collective blood pressure. But is everything truly terrible, as Matt initially suggests? Or is America making a slow and often imperceptible march toward a brighter future, as the ever-optimistic Chris seems to believe? DRINKING & ALCOHOL. Alcohol is the only drug where, if you don't use it, people assume you have a problem. Kind of weird, right? It seems that alcohol – and our culture of drinking – are topics worth exploring. Hence, in this special “crossover” episode, 3Q3D regular Amanda Adams, and occasional 3Q3D visitor and fan favorite Colt McCutcheon, sit down with Chris Mikolay at the halfway mark of his Dry January goal to pour a few (booze free) drinks to discuss several questions that are interesting no matter how much you've imbibed: why are humans compelled to drink to excess? Will future generations view alcohol consumption as we view smoking today? And, the most controversial of all: is it ever okay to allow underage kids (and their friends) to drink in your home? Drinks in this Episode:Athletic Brewing Co. Run Wild Non-Alcoholic IPA >> Crack a can of this booze-less beer and chug until your hearts content. Don't worry, nothing happens (except at some point you'll have to pee). Restore Cold Pressed Immunity Juice >> Visit your local cold pressed juice shop for a bottle of zesty apple, lemon, ginger and cayenne brew. Pour over ice and sprinkle a little cayenne pepper on top for added flair. Toast to your good health and the first good drinking decision you've made in years!Fake Gin & Tonic>> 2 parts Clean Co. non-alcoholic gin, 4 parts Fever Tree Elderflower tonic; pour gin and tonic into a glass over ice, garnish with a lime, and pretend to like it. The Sober Man's Aviation cocktail>> 2 parts Clean Co. non-alcoholic gin, 1 small spoonful of Luxardo cherry syrup, 1 part lavender simple syrup, 1 1/2 parts freshly squeezed lemon juice. Mix ingredients in a cocktail shaker with ice and strain into a coupe. Garnish with a Luxardo cherry and lemon peel. Chris is joined by longtime 3Q3D cohost and political junkie Amanda Adams, as well as an actual living, breathing politican: Ohio State Representative for the 34th district of the Ohio House of Representatives, Casey Weinstein. Over drinks both sophisticated and unrefined, the group discusses the root causes of our political polarization and whether it's possible to have better political conversations - including how we might see people less through the lens of red or blue and instead, as human beings worthy of respect no matter their political persuasion. But fear not, because Matt and Amanda come to the rescue with a few great questions about the nature of burnout and how one can restore balance to a busy life. While the questions are excellent and the conversation vintage 3Q3D, the cocktails are a bit on the questionable side: after Matt pours a delightfully creamy concoction, Amanda makes something like an Old Fashioned, only awful, and Chris, well, he uses a blender to concoct a frozen Tokyo Tea that only a Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtle could love. FATHER, SON, GAMBLER, THIEF. At just 14 years of age, George Berk gambled for the first time, placing a $4 longshot bet on a horserace at an Off Track Betting parlor in New York City. As luck would have it, that longshot bet paid off and returned $73 – and ignited a compulsive gambling addiction that would lead to financial and personal destruction. Over the course of 4 decades George would experience 3 bankruptcies, gambling losses totaling at least $2 million, a divorce, and multiple prison sentences for the crimes committed to fuel his compulsive gambling. Now sober from gambling and alcohol for over a decade, George joins 3Q3D to speak courageously and candidly about the highs and lows of his life, the mentality of a problem gambler, and making amends with those he let down. With online betting now legal in 34 states, and over $100 billion wagered annually online and in casinos all over the nation, Americans have never gambled more. Even if you are a casual gambler, George's story is one worth hearing. As they depart the cozy confines of their suburban enclave for the big city lights of Cleveland, the 3Q3D crew is picked up by an Uber driver with a past – and who it seems no coincidence they should meet.As they move deeper into the night and many new friends are made, the group discusses the role that Luck, Chance and Destiny play in our lives, including whether good fortune can be tilted in one's favor. DAD JOKE CONTEST! Did you know that if you sneeze and fart at the same time, your body takes a screenshot? It's true. Also, if that joke offends you, then you should probably just go ahead and skip this episode (seriously). But if not, and you need a few good laughs, then you're in for a treat. Like a bad rash, Colt McCutcheon and Doug Harvey return once again on the 3 Questions, 3 Drinks podcast, only this time they're armed with curdled drinks, warm beer and a variety of Dad Jokes – some that are awful, some questionable, and others so bad they're really, really good. And if that's not enough, Chris tells an original joke that is so stupendously awful it leaves the entire studio speechless.Drinks in this Episode:WHITE RUSSIAN >> 2 oz Vodka, 1 oz Kahlúa, 1 splash heavy cream. Add the vodka and Kahlúa to a rocks glass filled with ice. Top with the heavy cream and stir. Try to avoid leaving it to curdle in the hot sun of an overheated podcasting studio before consuming.SLOW COMFORTABLE SCREW UP AGAINST THE WALL >> 1 oz Vodka, 1 oz Sloe Gin, 1/2 oz Southern Comfort, 1/2 oz Galliano, Orange juice. Fill a tall glass half full with ice. Add the vodka, sloe gin, and southern comfort. Add enough orange juice to almost fill the glass then stir gently. Pour the Galliano over the back of a spoon into the glass so it floats on the top (this is the "wall"). Do not stir. Serve immediately, and then apologize to your mother for the R-rated name of this cocktail.THE BEER OF DADS EVERYWHERE >> Miller High Life, aka the Champagne of Beers. The group begins by throwing caution to the wind and downing a shot of Fireball Cinnamon Whiskey, and then ponders how much of their success in life is self-determined, whether to be offended by “you didn't build that”, and how much we are responsible for the well-being of others. This episode's conversation is as compelling and thought-provoking as Fireball is terrible, and in true 3Q3D fashion, it gets better with every sip. BECOMING A CRITICAL THINKER. As Mark Twain once famously said, “It ain't what you don't know that gets you into trouble. It's what you know for sure that just ain't so.” To that end, 3Q3D gets the New Year off to an inquisitive start, with an episode designed to make you think about…thinking. Joined by Nick Chiorian, an educator who has taught one of the most fascinating high school classes in America for nearly 20 years, and David Jordan, his former student and a bright young mind from The Ohio State University, Chris questions why it's important to become a more critical thinker – and how to do it. From recognizing our innate biases and questioning what makes us think what we think, to the challenges educators face when helping kids learn and what books one ought to read before they die, this episode will leave you thinking in New Dimensions. Drinks in this Episode:WHISKEY SOUR >> 2 oz bourbon; ¾ oz fresh squeezed lemon juice; ¾ oz simple syrup; ½ orange wheel (for serving); maraschino cherry (for serving). Combine bourbon, lemon juice, and simple syrup in a cocktail shaker. Fill shaker with ice, cover, and shake vigorously until outside of shaker is very cold, about 20 seconds. Strain cocktail through a Hawthorne strainer or a slotted spoon into an old-fashioned or rocks glass filled with ice. Garnish with orange wheel and cherry. Toast to your sophisticated taste in cocktails as you look down upon your fellow college students drinking White Claws. VESPER MARTINI >> 3 oz gin; 1 oz vodka; ½ oz Lillet blanc aperitif. Add the gin, vodka and Lillet blanc into a mixing glass with ice and stir until well-chilled. Strain into a chilled cocktail glass and then express the oils from a lemon twist over the drink. With Amanda piloting the pod, the OG 3Q3D crew gets started early and pours several cocktails usually found at brunch; it quickly becomes clear that Chris has a Musk-sized man-crush, Matt's knowledge of celebrity pop-culture stopped somewhere in the late 1980's, and Amanda – despite her love of democracy – has the hots for King Charles. SPECIAL HALLOWEEN SPOOKTACULAR! 3Q3D returns to its classic format in this Halloween themed episode as OG contributors Amanda Adams, Matt Jordan and Chris Mikolay conjure up 3 seasonal elixirs sure to please even the prickliest vampire. Contemplating their own mortality with questions about Death, Dying and Halloween, Matt makes creative use of candy corn, Chris sets up a chemistry lab and makes a drink that threatens the lives of all who dare drink it, and Amanda – with blood on her hands and in need of an alibi – may or may not have committed a capital crime. Trick-or-treat!Drinks in this Episode:Candy Corn Old Fashioned >> 2 oz bourbon, 2 oz candy corn “slurry”, 3 dashes angostura bitters, orange twist. In a mixing glass full of ice, stir and strain into a chilled glass over a large cube of ice. Twist a long zest of orange over the drink to release the oils, then drop it into glass. To make the candy corn slurry, mix 10 oz of candy corn with 5 oz of water in a pan of gently simmering hot water. Stir the candy corn until it dissolves into a paste-like mixture and you've lost all respect for yourself, because you're about to ruin an otherwise fine Old Fashioned by dumping liquefied candy corn into it. Dracula's Kiss Cocktail (Amanda Adams style) >> 2 oz vodka, 2 oz pink cranberry juice, 1 oz black cherry juice, 1 oz grenadine, 1 tablespoon lime juice, candied blood (for rim), vampire teeth (real or store-bought). To make the candied blood droplet rim: in a small saucepan over medium-high heat, add light corn syrup and black cherry juice. Stir to mix, bring to a boil (about 5 minutes) and then reduce contents to a simmer. Allow to cool to room temperature. Add red food coloring and stir to combine. The “blood” will be highly viscous, allowing it to stay in droplets on or near the rim of the glass for extended periods of time. To make the Dracula's Kiss cocktail: using a spoon, scoop out a small amount of the candied blood and transfer to the rim of the glass until it looks like a crime scene. Add ice, vodka, pink cranberry juice, black cherry juice, grenadine and lime juice to a cocktail shaker and shake vigorously for 20 seconds. Strain into the blood rimmed cocktail glass, garnish with Vampire teeth and serve to your next victim. Vampire's Kiss Cocktail (Chris Mikolay edition) >> 2 oz vodka, 2 oz Chambord, 2 oz unsweetened Cranberry juice, 1 oz freshly squeezed lemon juice; combine ingredients in a shaker with ice, shake vigorously, and strain into a coupe. For spookiest results, add a chunk of dry ice to the cocktail. DO NOT touch dry ice and DO NOT DRINK dry ice. With goggles and gloves, break the block of dry ice into small chunks with a screwdriver or ice pick. The ideal size is 1/2-inch to 1-inch chunks – heavy enough to sink in the drink but small enough to disappear after a few minutes. You can technically take sips of the drink since the dry ice is in the bottom, but just make sure not to let it slide to the top of the glass. For best results, drink after midnight during a full moon. If you've been enjoying the 3Q3D podcast, please subscribe and consider giving us a rating, a review, or sharing an episode with a friend. Strain puree through a fine sieve to remove seeds. Pour 2 oz peach and raspberry puree into a flute glass and top with a little Prosecco. Stir gently. Top off with more Prosecco, drop a few raspberries into the Bellini, and cheers to your sophistication! (Special note: Foam can be an issue when making these Bellini. Starting with cold ingredients is helpful. If possible, make your fruit puree and chill for hour or more before making cocktails. Opening your Prosecco (but keeping it in the refrigerator) 10 to 15 minutes beforehand also reduces foam.). Oftentimes what we don't understand, we fear. What we fear, we sometimes judge as evil. Wouldn't we all be better off if we sought first to understand, before being understood? Proving this episode of 3Q3D is no joke, Chris sits down for a wide-ranging and uplifting conversation with 3 very wise men. Representing Judaism, Christianity and Islam respectively, Rabbi Michael Ross (Rabbi of Temple Beth Shalom in Hudson, OH), Father Patrick Schultz (Parochial Vicar at Sacred Heart of Jesus Catholic Church in Wadsworth, OH), and Masroor Malik (Khatib at the Chagrin Valley Islamic Center in Solon, OH) share their perspective on how their faiths are similar, how they differ (and perhaps differ greatly), and what they believe some misperceive about their chosen religion. And proving the world needs more conversations like this one, prepare to be inspired by each man's answer to the question, “what do you love most about your faith?”Drinks in this Episode:Masala Chai (Traditional Indian/Pakistani Spice Tea) >> Black Tea, cardamom, cinnamon, milk and sugar. DISTRACTION! 3Q3D returns at long last from a hiatus fueled as much by Chris' inability to focus as his need for a break. Over several drinks worth sipping slowly, Amanda, Chris and Matt discuss the many ways in which society has stolen our focus while examining the antidotes to inattention. Questioning whether he's the only one who can't focus anymore, Chris turns to sloe gin and a classic cocktail to calm his frazzled nerves; Matt then mixes up one of the more interesting cocktails in 3Q3D history, and after declaring he's “not a bear”, decides to live like a lion; and finally, Amanda's mojito makes minds meaningfully meander.Links to books/articles/products discussed in this episode:Stolen Focus, by Johann HariK Safe – The Time Locking Container“Is Google Making Us Stupid?” by Nicholas Carr“Why the Past 10 Years Of American Life Have Been Uniquely Stupid,”by Jonathan HaidtDrinks in this Episode:Charlie Chaplin cocktail>> 1 ½ parts sloe gin, 1 part freshly squeezed lime juice, ¾ parts apricot brandy, ½ part simple syrup; combine ingredients in a cocktail shaker with ice and shake vigorously.
