Three Questions, Three Drinks with Chris Mikolay

ARTIFICIAL INTELLIGENCE! These days, AI is all the rage, but it's also fueling more late-night doomscrolling than many care to admit. Whether we like it or not, though, Artificial Intelligence is no longer the stuff of science fiction — it's here, it's evolving faster than we are, and in some unsettling ways, it feels like we've begun teaching rocks to think (what could go wrong?). On the bright side, the rocks in 3Q3D's cocktail glasses are still cold, and the conversation – at least for now – still involves real people. While Chris Mikolay appears to welcome our new AI overlords, noted technophobe and hunter-gatherer enthusiast Amanda Adams assumes Episode 91's hosting duties, leading the trio down a dark and winding path that questions how AI is reshaping creativity, education, relationships, and perhaps, what it even means to be human. DRINKS IN THIS EPISODE:BABY GUINNESS SHOT >> 1 oz Kahlúa; 1/2 oz Baileys Irish Cream (floated carefully on top). Pour the Kahlúa into a shot glass. Using the back of a spoon, carefully float the Baileys on top to create a layered – and nearly perfect – deep fake of a miniature Guinness.PERFECT MANHATTAN COCKTAIL >> 2 oz rye whiskey; 1/2 oz sweet vermouth; 1/2 oz dry vermouth; 2 dashes Angostura bitters. Add all ingredients into a mixing glass with ice. Stir until well chilled. Strain into a chilled coupe or martini glass and garnish with a Luxardo cherry or a lemon twist. A classic cocktail that pairs perfectly with a Cadbury Egg (or 3).PINK GIN COCKTAIL >> 2 oz Dingle Gin (or any London dry gin); 2–3 dashes Angostura bitters. Add gin and bitters to a mixing glass filled with ice. Stir gently and strain into a chilled cocktail glass. Garnish with a lemon twist if desired.Simple, sophisticated, and tinged with just enough mystery — fitting for a conversation about our AI future.  If you've been enjoying the 3Q3D podcast, please subscribe and consider giving us a rating, a review, or sharing an episode with a friend.  Follow our social sites here: Instagram:  https://www.instagram.com/3drinkspodcast/?hl=en  Facebook:  https://www.facebook.com/3Drinkspodcast

In the much-anticipated follow-up to last week's discussion on Valentine's Day gift giving, Steve catches us up on the trials and tribulations of navigating Hallmark's most imaginary holiday. Revenge of the Ninja: It's a story you've probably heard before. A ninja name Cho Osaki has left his life of ninjacity behind is pulled back in after his family is killed in Japan. At the urging of a close friend, Braden, he moves to Los Angeles and opens a doll shop. For whatever reason, we never find out who killed Cho's wife, oldest son, and others present. *shrug emoji* But after he settles in Los Angeles, it turns out that Braden is actually smuggling heroin through the doll shop that he helped Cho establish. No backstory is given on how or why Braden became a drug dealer or why he though the dolls were the best method of transportation. *shrug emoji*Cho's son, Kane, accidentally uncovers the heroin, and Braden decides he has to kill Cho's mom. This all makes sense somehow. But then Kane witnesses Braden killing his grandmother, so now Braden's gotta kill him. This whole operation goes sideways like two days after it's established. Plus there's a mob guy that won't pay Braden for the drugs he's smuggled in. So then that guys gotta go too, I guess. But, Cho decides he has to kill Braden for killing his mom and abducting his son. He still isn't too worried about all the killings back in Japan.Revenge of the Ninja final grade: Steve: I liked this one. It's not up there with the all-time gut busters of intentional/unintentional comedy, but the story worked some of the time, hit all the 80s ninja themes. I love the Utah landscapes. 3.05/5.0Brandon: I liked it a little more after I thought about it. Lots weapons. The story was a little discombobulated, but it was a fun, above-average watch. Throwing stars. Nunchucks. Katana. 3.0/5.0Cocktail of the Week:The Ninja1 oz Light Rum1/2 oz Lychee LiqueurSlice of LimeA few drops of pressed ginger liquidAs much Coca-Cola as your glass will hold.Build the cocktail in the glass. Add the rum and liqueur over ice, squeeze a knob of ginger in a garlic press to get the juice out. Stir to combine just a bit, then add your coke and squeeze a lime wedge over the top. Garnish with a lime wheel and Luxardo cherries.Cocktail Grade: The presence of the ginger is an interesting little twist on the Cuba Libre. Surprisingly, it wasn't as unwelcome a flavor combo as you might think 3.9/5.0------------------Contact us with feedback or cocktail/movie recommendations to:boozeandbmovies@gmail.comX: @boozeandbmoviesInstagram: @boozeandbmoviesThreads: @boozeandbmovieswww.facebook.com/boozeandbmovies

Many people say this is a podcast about drinking good cocktails with your friends while watching bad movies. But we like to think it's also about romance. So, we prepare everyone for the most important holiday of the year, Valentine's Day, by scrolling through some "Best Gifts for Him/Her" lists and see if any of the tacky trash on them is actually a decent gift idea. Turns out...not many.Wolfcop: Some Canadian dude watched Teen Wolf and Bad Lieutenant, then decided to make a mash-up. THEN, the guy was able to get the Canadian taxpayer to pay for the project. But, these are the people that invented Poutine, so crossovers are right up their alley. As for the story, a drunk cop finds out he's a werewolf. Then he finds out the town is full of shape-shifters looking to harvest his blood. Talk about a complicated week. But, he embraces it, so good for ol' Lou Garou. Wolfcop final grade: Steve: A bit of a disappointment. High hopes not met. That's the problem with expectations. Too damn much shaky cam. Good practical effects, though. 2.25/5.0Brandon: If this is the best form of Canadian cinema, worthy of public grant money, then maybe it's time to shut the place down. Quite a wiener-twist in this one, or a hog-twist for those of you north of the border. 2.4/5.0Cocktail of the Week:Gin Old Fashioned2 oz Old Tom gin1/4 oz Semi-rich Simple Syrup Three dashes Orange BittersPlunk a hunk of lemon peel in a cocktail mixing glass along with some ice. Combine all ingredients in there and stir away. Strain into a lowball glass over a block of ice. Garnish with skewered lemon peel and Luxardo cherries.Cocktail Grade: Better than expected. Three Questions, Three Drinks with Chris Mikolay

WINTER SURVIVAL TIPS. With over a foot of fresh fallen snow blanketing 3Q3D headquarters in Northeast Ohio, Amanda, Matt and Chris wonder why they live in a locale with such harsh winter conditions. However, as the drinks go down and the conversation warms up, the group looks at the bright side of shorter days and colder nights, debates which animal has winter figured out (hibernate like a bear, or fly south like a bird?), and reminds listeners to keep that moisturizer nearby. So get out of the cold and join the conversation – all are welcome to hunker down in the 3Q3D igloo.DRINKS IN THIS EPISODE:  CLEVELAND WHISKEY COMPANY CHRISTMAS BOURBON >> Pour 2 fingers of this spice flavored bourbon over a large cube and enjoy next to a roaring fire on a cold winter night.  MARY PICKFORD COCKTAIL >> 1 ½ oz white rum, 1 ½ oz unsweetened pineapple juice, 1 tsp Luxardo liqueur, ¼ tsp grenadine. Combine all ingredients in a cocktail shaker with ice and shake vigorously. Strain into a coupe glass, serve with a Luxardo cherry, and with the moxie of Mary Pickford now filling you up, walk out into that winter storm and show it who's boss.  MAI TAI COCKTAIL >>  1 ½ oz white rum; ¾ oz orange curaçao; ¾ oz lime juice, freshly squeezed, ½ oz orgeat, ½ oz dark rum, lime wheel and mint sprig. Add the white rum, curaçao, lime juice and orgeat into a shaker with crushed ice and shake lightly (about 3 seconds). Pour into a double rocks glass. Float the dark rum over the top. Garnish with a lime wheel and mint sprig and be instantly transported out of the cold and into a Polynesian tiki hut (or, perhaps, a hotel bar in Oakland, California, where the mai tai was born). If you've been enjoying the 3Q3D podcast, please subscribe and consider giving us a rating, a review, or sharing an episode with a friend.Follow our social sites here: Instagram:  https://www.instagram.com/3drinkspodcast/?hl=en Facebook:  https://www.facebook.com/3Drinkspodcast

After an extended break, we're back. This week Gary breaks out the Traveller Whiskey, while David drinks Narrow Path Old Fashioned. The blended whiskey has complex aromas of vanilla, aged fruit and buttery shortbread rounded off by caramel and a touch of oak. The palate has just a touch of sweetness, followed by spice, toasted nut and oak flavors, with a robust finish. Narrow Path Old Fashioned is a beer inspired by the popular cocktail. Yes! Probably. Well, maybe. Today our investigators decide if the Giants are a good baseball team or a bad baseball team. They identify every flaw and discover difficult truths. Jessica Christensen, Mixologist and Beverage Manager, and Robb Stites, head of Communications and Community at Graton Resort and Casino join Steve Jaxon and Herlinda Heras on Brew Ha Ha today. Jessica is a Sonoma County native. She is responsible for all of the drinks at nine different bars at the Graton Resort and Casino. She started as a bartender at Negri's in Occidental when she was 21. After a few years she worked at Calistoga Inn and Brewery. After that, she was recruited to the Graton casino and soon got into management there. The first drink served today, after the soothing and inspiring sound of the cocktail shaker, is an Apricot Pisco cocktail. Pisco is a distilled spirit from Peru with a flavor that is close to rum. Robb Stites had a background in public relations before coming to the casino about two years ago. He describes the philanthropy and in-kind donations that they do as an expression of their commitment to the community. Jessica describes the Apricot Pisco cocktail that is in Steve's glass. It is made with Pisco, Luxardo apricot liqueur, fresh lemon, some acqua fava for the foam and some simple syrup. Acqua fava is technically garbano bean juice, which can produce a foamy texture. (Sometimes bartenders use egg whites for foam, but many people prefer this vegan alternative.) Visit Homerun Pizza, home of the Knuckleball! Fresh pizza dough made from scratch daily, la pizza è deliziosa! There are several bars in the resort; G-Bar is a sports bar and Sky Bar in the lobby has won several polls from Casino Player magazine. Sky Bar is a lounge bar at the center of the venue, Lobby Bar is a little more for craft cocktails, away from the gaming floor. There are also frequent concerts and comedy shows. The swimming pool is open not only to hotel guests now. You can buy day passes now for a cabaña, a lounger or a day bed, those are available seven days a week. Guests can bring food in from another restaurant or order from the poolside menu. The pool bar is right nearby. See our sponsor Victory House at Poppy Bank Epicenter online, for their latest viewing and menu options. The next cocktail they taste is a new take on a traditional recipe, called a Jalapeño Margarita. It will soon be on the Lobby Bar menu. It has Jalapeño-infused tequila, plus Cointreau, lime juice and agave. Floating on top, there is an Aperol and lime citrus foam. Russian River Brewing Co. is open in Santa Rosa on 4th St. and at their big Windsor location. Visit their website for up-to-date hours, menus, beers and more. Jessica describes the pool menu, which is the same as last year and is designed to be quick, fresh and delicious. Kiwi, blueberry, watermelon, mango and spiked lemonade. They also have a cocktail competition called Full Tilt. The first year the competitors were mostly from north bay but this year they will open it to bartenders from all over the Bay Area. One portion of the competition will be Iron Chef style, where the competitors get a set of ingredients they have to work with. This year it will focus on agave-based drinks. The Campari group is the sponsor.

Elijah Craig has spent lots of marketing dollars in the last few years on building a campaign around Elijah Craig bourbon as the "go to" for an Old Fashioned, which is quite serviceable in almost every level, but we've always been fans of rye based old fashioned which is why the Elijah Craig RYE is a perfect opportunity to make this drink. Bottled at 94 proof, the EC rye is on the lighter side of rye whiskey mashbills, but that makes it all the better as a sub for this classic cocktail. The spice is subtle, warming, inflected with mint, woodsy oak, and a pile of fresh orchard fruit and leather. Go light on the sugar and try it with orange bitters and three Luxardo cherries, you'll thank us!

Close your eyes and picture the 1980s. Well, don't close them because you have to keep reading. What do you see and hear? Aquanet? Bangs? A magazine hidden under a teenage boy's bed? High-pitched male vocals? Nunchucks? Playboy Playmates...I mean Angels...I mean highly-skilled operatives of "The Agency" take down a presumably-notorious Kingpin. It's not paradise all the time. Daniel Singer (@filthydaniel) is the CEO of Filthy (website, Instagram), a company working to change the way people think about things like cocktail garnishes. Not only did I love this conversation, but Daniel's comments about entrepreneurship requiring a high pain tolerance and his resolve to banish negative thoughts because they are not worth the energy landed heavily on my heart.Mentions: Julia Momosé, Kumiko, Simon Ford, Luxardo cherries, John Lermayer, Joshua Wagner, Colin Asare-Appiah, Amanda Gunderson, olives (are related to fruits like peaches and plums), Dyslexia, LovemarkNot long before our conversation, Filthy released a campaign called “Love is in the Details.” The entire series is worthwhile, but below are several that came up.Thanks for reading to the end!
