When Roe vs Wade was overturned, did you wonder how you could help? "Every podcaster has a voice" is the common language in the industry, but what happens when the voices combine to advocate for change? That is precisely what Arielle did with the recent Roe vs. Wade overturned issue. She posted a call to action on Twitter which exploded into people rallying around the effort and offering to play a consistent host read ad at the beginning of their episodes. What is the worst hot mic moment you have had in podcasting? Today Mathew opens up about a trend in the industry with the quality of guests and the worst hot mic moment he has had during a live recording. Even though it's just audio, an interview is still a conversation, and the quality matters.  A podcast host knows the work that goes into the podcast each week to produce it, but we often see that guests have never operated a podcast other than showing up. Have you ever felt that your podcast feels more like a stale bag of chips? I think every podcaster goes through a stage where they get unsure of what comes next, what do I change, or is this still my passion. Talking into a microphone in an empty room or hosting conversations over the internet, keeping the connection alive to your purpose is key to long-term success. What got you here won't always get you there. Realize where you started this journey doesn't have to be where you stay. Finding the right beat, at the right price, and knowing you are getting the right deal is something every new podcaster goes through. It is one of the first significant issues many people launching a podcast have to go through, and its usually in the dark.  Most podcasters are not familiar with the music licensing industry and get an education on it very quickly to make sure they set up the show for success. Today on the podcast, we are talking with the co-founders of Songs For Podcasting who are bringing a flashlight to the process and helping podcasters find the right beat, at the right price, and making sure they are protected. Our conversation goes into the weeds of this issue and what podcasters need to know before picking that first beat. Key Topics: ·     What is Songs For Podcasters and why did it open its doors (0:34) ·     Why is music licensing with podcasting so unique in the industry (1:42) ·     Why is it essential that podcasters don't just pirate mainstream music for a podcast (4:15) ·     What new record labels are getting on board with providing music for podcasting (5:47) ·     Will, we ever see mainstream musicians make music available for use on podcasts (7:03) ·     How can you avoid getting hit with copyright infringement (9:49) ·     What does a podcaster need to know about royalties as a podcast grows (11:40) ·     How do you make sure your media license grows with your podcast (12:44) ·     Is it required to update your old music licenses as your podcast grows (16:00) ·     What do podcasters need to know before they start searching on Songs For Podcasters (18:40) ·     Is it better for the production company to own the copyright or the podcast host (19:57)) Website link: https://songsforpodcasters.com/SFPHomePage (https://songsforpodcasters.com/SFPHomePage) Social Links SyncFloor (Parent company to Songs For Podcasters) ·     Twitter: https://twitter.com/SyncFloor (https://twitter.com/SyncFloor) ·     Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/SyncFloor/ (https://www.facebook.com/SyncFloor/) ·     LinkedIn: https://www.linkedin.com/company/syncfloor/ (https://www.linkedin.com/company/syncfloor/) Cestjon McFarland: ·     LinkedIn: https://www.linkedin.com/in/cestjon-mcfarland-027a805/ (https://www.linkedin.com/in/cestjon-mcfarland-027a805/) ·     Twitter: https://twitter.com/cestjon (https://twitter.com/cestjon) ·     Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/cestjon/ (https://www.instagram.com/cestjon/) Kirt Debique ·     LinkedIn: https://www.linkedin.com/in/kirtdebique/ (https://www.linkedin.com/in/kirtdebique/) ·     Twitter: https://twitter.com/katewayo?lang=en (https://twitter.com/katewayo?lang=en) ·     Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/katewayo/   Thanks for Listening! Every new podcaster wants to know how to boost their engagement. The answer is a lot simpler than you think. Engagement comes easy when it's coming from a place of passion. If you're faking it, your listeners will see through it. Welcome to Should I Start A Podcast,  where each week, Ronsley Vaz, with the help of a star-studded entrepreneurial guest lineup, explores why you should start a podcast, build an audience, and how to keep them hungry for more. If you're thinking about starting a podcast or simply looking for a better way to get your message out to your audience, then this is the podcast for you. Mathew Passy has been podcasting since before podcasts were a “thing”. After a start in broadcasting 15 years ago, Mathew's career evolved into podcasting. He's worked in production for major organisations like The Wall Street Journal and individual clients all over the United States. His first podcasting experience began like the storyline from a binge-worthy TV show. The radio station newsroom that Mathew was working in at the time needed a way to transition into the digital world. He suggested converting the early news segment into a podcast. It worked, and it's still going strong to this day.  From then on, Mathew worked his magic in the podcasting world. He had his hand in hosting and producing massively popular shows like Tech News Briefing and Your Money Matters. He eventually used his passion to create his very own show, the PodUp Podcast, which gave an inside look at the industry.  Mathew is now the host of Podcast Me Anything. It's a question and answers formatted show, where listeners can get all of their burning podcast queries answered once and for all. Besides being the connoisseur of podcast hosting, Mathew also runs his own business. The Podcast Consultant is a one-stop-shop for podcast hosts. Mathew runs audits on their shows, telling them what areas need tweaking and what areas are killing it. In this episode, Ronsley, Kaili and Mathew get into what makes you an “expert”. Mathew tells us the things that he thinks newbies should be aware of. And he also gets into his biggest point about podcasting. In order to be authentic, you absolutely have to have a genuine passion for what you're talking about. Also within this episode: The complicated production process of early podcasts How Mathew uses his radio experience in podcasting Why you can start a podcast for basically any reason, as long as you're passionate about it The magic of affiliate links How a podcast can give your business credibility  How to stand out in a crowded niche The process of a podcast audit Why you should always lead with value in marketing The 3 things Mathew recommends for interviewing Links: Mathew on LinkedIn Mathew on Twitter Mathew on Instagram The Podcast Consultant Podcast Me Anything Causepods

Podcast hosts are loved because the trust and relationship they build with their audience through this show. On this episode of Podcast Me Anything, we chat with Rob Walch, Vice President of Podcaster Relations at Libsyn, to discuss the hidden tech that is tracking podcast listeners and why that should be a concern for content creators. In the online marketing world GDPR is something that any company running an online business needs to knows about. And one of the key features of that system is the ability for the end user to opt-in. Because that opportunity doesn't exist within the podcasting space, many companies providing attribution and other tracking services are running afoul of these privacy rules. With Overcast's new privacy tool, users are going to learn quickly what data shows are willing to collect through these tools, and he is concerned about the reckoning that will follow. Listen to today's show and find the limitations for podcasters to enforce GDPR and CCPA rules, and why Rob is concerned for the entire space. And don't forget to read this post which outlines in further detail why https://podcast411.libsyn.com/privacy-does-really-matter-in-podcasting (Rob believes privacy really does matter) for podcast consumers. Jason got involved in the podcast realm when he was helping build out subscription podcasting for a couple of podcasters. A freemium model where only about 2-7% of your audience pays for more of your content. He then realized most podcasters don't realize they could be sitting on a gold mine.  And so, http://www.supercast.com (Supercast.com) was born.  Jason explains exactly how it works as well as different options members can utilize. He also shares some new cool features for podcasters to help them improve engagement with their listeners. Tom Kelly and Mathew Passy break down some of the changes we heard this week following WWDC and an email from Apple Podcasts. Some of the major headlines.... Apple is killing iTunes and creating a separate podcast app. They are introducing machine learning search of the spoken content. (Credit Steve Goldstein of Amplifi Media) An email later that week revealed major category changes. We also hit upon.... Evo Terra's advice for podcasters in light of this news James Cridland's scathing rebuke of Apple Joel Sharpton's efforts to get more LGBTQ+ categories Lastly, we are going to make some changes to the Podcast Me Anything format.  Stay tuned for a new time and date for the one-hour AMA and then we'll just release some solid content as a regular podcast throughout the week.
