Hosts Chris and Steve chat over Zoom with News 12 Reporter Danielle Campbell about covering the pandemic and some of the good news stories that have developed here on Long Island.
The bushfire season of 2019-20 was the most sustained and confronting in Australia’s recent history with fires threatening communities in many states and territories across unprecedented areas of land. In numerous Australian towns, community pharmacists were faced with distressed patients, both local and visiting, power failures, broken medicine supply lines, fuel shortages, acrid smoke, appalling air quality. Further, the pharmacies themselves and the homes of the staff were under direct threat, as were family members and friends. The unprecedented social and financial impacts of the 2019-20 bushfire season have pushed community pharmacies into the front lines of response efforts; highlighting their versatility and value within affected communities and showcasing their resilience in adverse situations. Today, we speak with Andrew Topp, Group Business Manager of Capital Chemist Group, about the broader impacts of the bushfire season on community pharmacy and what it may mean for the industry going forward. We also chat with Danielle Campbell, the owner of Narooma Pharmacy, about her own experiences on the front line of the bushfire response efforts and the challenges she and her team faced.

Cooking as a history lesson! With Thanksgiving fast approaching, News 12's Danielle Campbell looks back at what a colonial Thanksgiving looked like, Long Island style. Diane Schwindt stirs up history at the Ketcham Inn in Center Moriches, using a hearth from the 1600s. She believes by cooking up history, we get a more authentic taste of Long Island's past. She says because Long Islanders were walking distance from the water, seafood was a big part of their diet. Eel and venison were classic choices. Schwindt says historical cooking gives you a sense of how hard it was to survive, which would have made Thanksgiving back then truly a day for thanks.
