At just 18 months old, Ben Shenton was handed over to a woman who claimed she was the reincarnation of Jesus Christ. That woman was Anne Hamilton-Byrne, the leader of a secretive doomsday cult called The Family. For 14 years, Ben lived cut off from the outside world—beaten, starved, drugged, and taught to stay “unseen, unheard, unknown.” The cult twisted Christianity into a tool of fear and control. Ben was finally rescued at age 15 during a police raid. Today, he’s an advocate for survivors and a pastor who still follows the teachings of Jesus Christ, just not the version the cult tried to force on him. You can find Ben’s website, Rescue the Family, here, and his book Life Behind the Wire here. Today, we're stepping behind the screens and into the lives of Cody and Victoria Blue, a climbing couple who have built a sustainable life around capturing and sharing their adventures in the mountains. Relatively new to climbing, their success lies not in the groundbreaking nature of their climbing achievements, but in their remarkable abilities as videographers and story tellers in the environments that inspire us the most. Recently, Cody and Victoria documented their journey up one of the most iconic mountains in the world—the Matterhorn. The short film these two produced is super well done and really showcases their strengths as storytellers and artists. If you haven't seen it yet I highly recommend checking it out on their Youtube Channel.Filming in the mountains is already an immense challenge. But being both the filmmaker and the subject—while also focusing on climbing safely? That's a whole different level of difficulty and a challenge that simply cannot be overstated..How do you decide what moments are worth capturing? Do you film everything, or does documenting the entire experience risk taking away from the present moment? These are the kinds of questions we explore in this conversation, gaining a deeper understanding of what it's really like to create the videos we all love to watch.I was psyched to sit down with Cody and Victoria and dive into such relatable and thought-provoking topics. The term “influencer” often comes with mixed opinions, but these two are living their dream—and have found a way to support a life of creation and climbing. I have a huge amount of respect for that and can't wait to see where their skills take them next. And now, I bring you my conversation with Cody & Victoria Blue.----Don't forget to check out our full video episodes on Youtube! The TCM movement is growing but we need your help to spread the word! Welcome back to The Camera Cafe Show! This week, we have the legendary Art Wolfe joining us for an incredible deep dive into his photographic journey—and let's just say, if there were an Olympic event for never sitting still, Art would take gold. From his childhood adventures in the forests of Seattle to climbing mountains with a 4x5 camera from his dad (because why make it easy?), Art's story is one of relentless curiosity and creative evolution. In this first part of our conversation, we talk about his early influences, his switch from painting to photography, his time working with National Geographic, his worldwide travels and the stories that go with them and of course a walk through his passion of making books. We also hear about his… let's call it ‘challenging' experience in Russia and China, his run-in with a charging rhino in Nepal, and why his short teaching middle school career convinced him to face down magazine editors without fear. Of course, we will also do some gear talk. Art shares his approach to packing light (as in, he finally appreciates not lugging 20kg of lenses), why switching to digital was like flipping a switch, and his thoughts on camera debates (spoiler: he doesn't care much, just use the tool that works!). If you're wondering how one man manages to travel nine months a year, create over 120 books, and still find time to craft a Japanese-style garden at home, this episode will leave you both inspired and exhausted just listening to his schedule. And guess what? We're not done yet! This is just Part 1—next week, we get even deeper into Art's process, where he talks about his tv show, good friends and photography colleagues and the philosophy that keeps him pushing forward. So, grab your favorite cup of coffee—or tequila if you want to keep up with Art's energy—and enjoy the show! ***** Check out more of Art's work: https://artwolfe.com/ ***** Follow us for your Weekly Dose of Photography Inspiration: https://thecameracafeshow.com/

Tharran Hobson of The Nature Conservancy shares insights into collaborative efforts with NRCS and the Army Corps of Engineers to support landowners and implement natural infrastructure, such as reforestation, to slow water and prevent the formation of new river channels. The work at Dogtooth Bend underscores the need to balance human life with ecological resilience in flood-prone regions.waterloop is a nonprofit news outlet. Nick Kypreos and Justin Bourne are joined by former NHL head coach Mike Keenan in-studio to chat about what it was like to coach Nick with the New York Rangers, his coaching styles with 'star' players, before jumping into his newest book "Iron Mike: My Life Behind The Bench", what got him interested into writing about his career and life off the ice and some behind the scenes stories from the 1993-94 Stanley Cup winning team. Then, Nick, Justin and Sam McKee take a look at the Vancouver Canucks blowing a 3-goal lead in their home opener to the Calgary Flames, Linus Ullmark's real-life comparisons to a start of a new year, and the Ottawa Senators' bad track record to begin the regular season. The views and opinions expressed in this podcast are those of the hosts and guests and do not necessarily reflect the position of Rogers Sports & Media or any affiliates.
Domantas Sabonis is one of five NBA stars featured in the new Netflix docuseries, “Starting 5.” He joins the show to discuss how the NBA is changing and what it was like to have a camera following him at all times. We also hear from NFL insider Jordan Schultz on constantly chasing scoops and how the lifestyle can lead to burnout. He also opines on whether Adam Schefter could hold his own job and also replace Adrian Wojnarowski at ESPN, the difficult relationship between the Raiders and Davante Adams, and how Hassan Reddick ended up in his increasingly expensive holdout. Plus, MLB broadcasts could look very different after Diamond Sports dropped all but one team, Michael Jordan is suing NASCAR, and NIL is coming to high schools.
Mike Keenan is a madman. Mike Keenan has a method. All things considered, both descriptions are part and parcel of a coaching career in which he angered many, and accomplished a great deal. 30 years ago he won the Stanley Cup and then abruptly parted with the New York Rangers, the team he led to the title. Iron Mike addresses career defining events such as this and covers much more in his life's journey through hockey. The 1985 Jack Adams Award winner (NHL Coach of the Year) joined SportsLit to discuss his exploits behind the bench, the front office, and off the ice. If he was do it all again, would he do it any differently? Find out.
The concept of racial passing is where individuals from one racial group are perceived or pass as members of another racial group. Historically prevalent in the United States, racial passing often involved Black or multiracial individuals assimilating into the white majority to navigate societal barriers like harsh racial segregation and discrimination.Audio Onemichistory.comFollow me on Instagram: @onemic_historyFollow me on Threads: https://www.threads.net/@onemic_historyFollow me on Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/OnemichistoryPlease support our Patreon:https://www.patreon.com/user?u=25697914Buy me a Coffeehttps://www.buymeacoffee.com/Countryboi2mSources:https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Passing_(racial_identity) https://history.stanford.edu/publications/chosen-exile-history-racial-passing-american-life https://www.nytimes.com/2021/03/02/t-magazine/passing-nella-larsen-brit-bennett.htmlBecome a supporter of this podcast: https://www.spreaker.com/podcast/one-mic-black-history--4557850/support.

You may have noticed that my entire life was turned upside down over the past year. I separated and then divorced after over 20 years with my husband, bought an RV and traveled the country over the winter trying to figure out what to do next. I ultimately landed in northwest Arkansas and am more or less starting my entire life over. In this episode, I explain a bit about what happened, where I've been, and what's coming next. Here's what you'll hear in this episode: How I relocated from my "forever home" in Montana to a rental in northwest Arkansas. An update on my personal life and the significant changes I've experienced. A story about ancestral healing with Amanita Muscaria and psilocybin played a crucial role in releasing toxic energy from my past lives, particularly with my Mormon ancestry. My deeply profound experience at the grave of a past life version of myself, which brought clarity and closure. To learn more about the resources mentioned in this episode, visit the show notes. Photography is an art. And if you think about it, film and television, is a series of shots in movement. I was honored to chat with Dan Winters, a legend in the world of professional photography who crafts narratives with the click of his shutter.Winters has photographed public figures ranging from the Dalai Lama to President Barack Obama, Hollywood celebrities from Leonardo DiCaprio to Helen Mirren, and artistic luminaries from Jeff Koons to William Christenberry. In our heartfelt conversation, Dan imparts his artistic philosophy, detailing the intricacies of incorporating objects into his portraits to tell richer stories. He takes us behind the scenes of his meticulously planned shoots, including the awe-inspiring NASA launches, and reflects on his personal connections to his subjects, from shipyards to the vast expanse of space. In the new Nat Geo Series "Photographer" Dan Winters episode, “Life is Once. Forever.,” has premiered at South by Southwest on March 11 and is available to stream on Disney Plus and Hulu.Because I love getting to the "heart" of the arts, Dan opens up about the peaks and valleys of his journey with bipolar disorder. He talks candidly about the choice to remain anchored in the present, the pursuit of stability, and the indispensable role of his support network. Our exchange is not just about the images captured but the life lived behind the camera—a tale of art, ambition, and the courage to face one's own vulnerabilities. All about Dan's workhttps://danwintersphoto.com/BIOGRAPHYSee the trailerhttps://youtu.be/KSCjIRdu1ZY?si=eICoO5zkKCmVf3WwAbout your Host- Alexia MelocchiBuy My Book - An Insiders Secret: Mastering the Hollywood PathAlexia Melocchi - WebsiteThe Heart of Show Business - WebsiteLittle Studio Films - WebsiteShop Our Merchandise!TwitterInstagramFacebookLinkedInThanks for listening!
