Lavori in corso.

Highlights from the conversationOne thing with simplicity is to not confuse it with minimalism. Simplicity is about focus and really defining your purposeIf you don't come together as a collective, sometimes you'll never be seenPurity is really important. It's where we try to get to the essence of a brandGreat design doesn't mean good results. It's really the power of everyone togetherMotion really brings the work to lifeEven then the smallest move can really define the personality of a brand More about Liza Liza is Partner and Creative Director at Studio Dumbar.Studio Dumbar (part of Dept) is an award-winning international agency with a Dutch heritage, specialising in visual branding and motion.
A Lamborghini leap, Nelly vs Luda, and how good is loving somebody when somebody loves you back?
This episode, you will get to know Emilie Gordenker. Child of an American father and a Dutch mother, Emilie is director of the Mauritshuis, the museum in the Hague with the famous collection of Dutch masters. The Mauritshuis is where you find the Girl with the pearl Earring, Vermeer’s painting that is loved by people all over the world. Emilie reveals why she decided to study art, not Russian, why she knows the Dutch province of Zeeland as well as New York and why it is important to always be honest to yourself.
Going out to bars and cafés is Bob’s ritual, and this social interest plays a part in his design work. He talks about why he became a graphic designer. The most important lesson he learned is not to take design too seriously, there are many different ways to approach it. His work is changing a lot over the years, but in general he likes different layers, stories within stories. Bob talks about his former The Hague studio NLXL and his life after closing it down, making drawings with his son and father, and his job at Lava in Amsterdam. What are the differences between NLXL and Lava, The Hague and Amsterdam? He reflects on his avid collecting, his design heroes and the start of his career at Dumbar studios. Recorded at Underware, The Hague. Note: Bob van Dijk left Lava and runs his own studio again since December 2009. Personal website :: Lava :: File Download (31:23 min / 36 MB)
Father (Gert Dumbar) and son (Derk Dumbar) tell us why the dutch people are type eaters and the greek are not. Of course the talk is also about family stuff like how to educate your children, secret rituals of Gert Dumbar (which even his wife and son don’t know) and why children should put their parents to bed. Did Gert ever design a font? Does he know how to work with a computer? And is it really true that the whole Dumbar family was kicked out of school? And guess who imitates a horse wearing underwear? Gert Dumbar (Studio Dumbar) :: Derk Dumbar :: File Download (21:53 min / 20.1 MB)
Derk and Gert Dumbar reveal everything you ever wanted to know about the dutch tax system but never dared to ask. And a well-kept secret gets revealed: the legendary account nr. 1 in Holland. Furthermore this part is about Mahatma Gandhi, Steve Jobs, Paul Schuitema, Gerard Kiljan, Piet Zwart, Stanford university and a ghost in a house in france. more on Paul Schuitema :: work by Paul Schuitema :: work by Piet Zwart :: File Download (38:46 min / 36 MB)
For Gert Dumbar, pre-war french motorbikes are a perfect example of french geniality. It does not matter if they fall apart, but it is the new way of thinking which counts. This is what makes France a pioneering country regarding technique and design. The most advanced car in the world in 1955 :: Citroen DS 1960 :: 2 CV Racing Club :: File Download (7:20 min / 6.8 MB)
Gert talks about his one time experience being a lead singer, and hearing his record on the radio. Also Gerts and Derks longing for the impossible. Gert tells us how he wants to prove that art academies no longer exist as physical buildings. Art academies should not be self centered, but they should be aware that there are always different ideas which are also right. Design is very different to science. There is no one right and one wrong. There are different cultures with different ideas. And this localism is what makes Design design. Design should be local communication. But how does this match the fact that Dumbar is, and is used as a brand in China? Finally Gert Dumbar sings the song, especially composed for Typeradio. Ladies and Gentleman, a warm welcome to Gert singing ‘Follows’.File Download (21:09 min / 19.4 MB)
